It is a drop in replacement for the ESD sound server with much better latency, mixing/re-sampling quality and overall architecture. . These are some of PulseAudio's features: . * High quality software mixing of multiple audio streams with support for more than one sink/source. May be used to combine multiple sound cards into one (with sample rate adjustment). . * Wide range of supported client libraries. ESD, ALSA, oss, libao and GStreamer client applications are supported as-is. Native PulseAudio plug-ins are also available for xmms and mplayer. . * Good low latency behaviour and very accurate latency measurement for playback and recording. Ability to fully synchronize multiple playback streams. . * Network transparency, allowing an application to play back or record audio on a different machine than the one it is running on. . * Extensible plug-in architecture with plug-ins for jackd, multicast-rtp lirc and avahi, just to name a few. . [Bug 1781298]
Created attachment 8203 possible-fix.patch The attached patch stops the crashes for me (on lid close), Paul can you give it a try? Explanation: Pixbufs for backdrops are loaded asynchronously, for some reason when the signal "size-prepared"is fired the backdrop may be still invalid, but later another signal will be fired and it will be valid, but it now it's too late because on first try the data has been released. This patch skips data clean-up on cases the backdrop is invalid. I also included a couple of prints just to be check if it behaves as expected (invalid -> valid -> unref). I'm just not sure if this is a proper fix, maybe the moment that signal is fired changed between gtk2/gtk3, no idea. Another interesting thing I found is that the backdrop is reloaded when I close the lid, that happens due a callback to GdkScreen's "monitors-changed" signal, which is fired twice :/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781298 Title: desktop app crashed when i switched inputs on my monitor away and back (possibly not the cause) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1781298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, Thank you for reply. About running the command to send error report to you, is there another way to export log and sent to you guys instead of sending log via network. The server is located in a local network behide firewall which block every outgoing package by security policy, opening outgoing IP and port isn't possible now. Re: [Bug 1809938] [NEW] delta syncrepl generates reqMod Attribute 'colon' with emtpty value
Hello Mario, This was an intentional change by OpenLDAP developers, in order to fix a replication bug that could cause providers and consumers to lose sync. Please see the upstream issue for the full details: http://www.openldap.org/its/?findid=6545 I confirm this behaviour on a producer running 2.4.45 or later. I confirm the "Invalid attribute" error (and failure to replicate) on a consumer running 2.4.42, but after upgrading the same to 2.4.45, everything works. I think in this case all I can recommend is to run the same version on your consumers as on your provider. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809938 Title: delta syncrepl generates reqMod Attribute 'colon' with emtpty value To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/1809938/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1809945] [NEW] Flatpak: extensions and locales are not installed
Public bug reported: Installing a Flatpak app via Gnome Software, doesn't install required extensions (like locales, codecs, drivers...). Only the runtime and the app itself get installed. The impact reaches from apps just not being translated, to apps not starting at all (e.g. when the proprietary NVIDIA driver extension is missing). When an app is installed from a *.flatpak file via Gnome Software, it doesn't even install the runtime. The app doesn't work at all, unless the required runtime was already installed. Installing apps via Flatpak's command line interface works as expected and installs all required extensions. The bug only seem to affect Ubuntu 18.04. It works in 18.10. [Bug 1779292] Re: GParted fails to shrink an LVM PV with lvm2 >= 2.02.171
Bionic debdiff attached ** Description changed: + [Impact] + + GParted in Bionic uses LVM2 versions >= 2.02.172. Because of this + higher LVM version, it is impacted by the same issue as Bug #1779292 - + the confirmation prompt added to the pvresize system makes all LVM2 + resize operations involving shrinking (and possibly expanding) LVM + Physical Volumes fail because of unexpected output. + + As such, gparted on Bionic cannot be used to resize LVM physical + partitions. + + This was fixed by syncing a newer version from Debian in Cosmic series, + however still impacts the Bionic series. If we intend to have Bionic as + an LTS (as we do), then we need to patch this. + + The attached patch is identical to the patch on Bug #1779292, and is + adapted from upstream changes to + + [Test Case] + + (0) Prerequisites: A drive with an LVM2 partition on it for the PV, and + a VG with LVs within that do NOT take up the entirety of the LVM2 + partition (so for a 100GB LVM PV, consume anything less than that so we + can resize the PV; you may resize LVs for this if you need to). + + With existing software versions: + + (1) Boot up a LiveCD/LiveUSB, open `gparted` on it. + + (2) Attempt to resize with current gparted on the repos / image. + + Current Result: ERROR due to unexpected message. + + With patched version: + + (1) Boot up LiveCD/LiveUSB + + (2) Install PPA version of `gparted` (or from -proposed if this has + landed in proposed for verification) + + (3) Attempt to shrink PV to make some free space (provided that step 0 + is met). + + Expected Result: SUCCESS + + [Regression Potential] + + Messing with gparted could lead to other problems, This is always a + risk. The potential for regression on this is low, however, provided + that the patch is applied carefully. + + The patch literally only changes the the arguments passed to pvresize of + --yes to 'confirm' that we want to do the changes. This change is + already applied in upstream versions later than that in Bionic, + therefore the regression risk of this is low. + + [Other Info] + + This was test-built and *actively tested* in a PPA with the upstream + patch (or rather, the patch listed in #1779292). I (Thomas Ward, who + applied the SRU template here) got the upstream patch for the debdiff + from upstream's master repository for the patch included in the debdiff. + (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gparted/commit/5892b72890748c1d3e96bd7e25800c8aab351025) + + Note that the PPA was tested from a LiveUSB of 18.04.1(.0) and was used + on a production system to resize the PV of my 18.04 laptop so I could + put a new partition with Clonezilla Live-HDD version on it. It works if + you wish to test it, even though it uses the patch from Bug #1779292 and + not a patch pulled directly from upstream's master branches/repos. + + + [Original Bug Description] + + == GParted fails to shrink the LVM2 PV reporting this # lvm pvresize -v --setphysicalvolumesize 786432K '/dev/sda9' 0 physical volume(s) resized / 1 physical volume(s) not resized Wiping internal VG cache Wiping cache of LVM-capable devices /dev/sda9: Requested size 712.00 MiB is less than real size 1.00 GiB. [Bug 1809940] [NEW] ASPEED AST2400 graphics failure on normal start but work on recovery start
Public bug reported: I have an ASUS P10S-I server motherboard with integrated ASPEED AST2400 VGA chipset. With earlier Ubuntu version (maybe on Ubuntu 16.04.3 ?) it worked well. Once when I updated (but before the actual version) it went wrong. The issue: When I boot normally the login window load slowly and keybord and mouse very slow too but work. I can login. But after i login the screen not show the desktop it show diagonal stripes. (see the attachment) This stripes made from original screen but unrecognisable the things. But the items work if you can click the right places. (for example i can click on the main switch button if i have luck and Crl+Alt+Del log out me.) After i log out the login screen corrupted on the same diagonal stripe way. But also work I can re login. How it work: If I start the recovery mode and on the recovery window choose continue start normally (and nothing else needed) it works without problem. Evrithing is fine. I tried to indtal ASPEED driver but on the Softwares and Updates menu Another driver don't found it. [Bug 1809936] [NEW] Installing GNOME shell extensions
Public bug reported: Installing GNOME shell extensions is quite painfull for two reasons: # 1) https://extensions.gnome.org is not working The original and time-proven method of installing GNOME shell extensions is not working in Ubuntu 18.04. Even if I install the Firefox (or Chromium) GNOME extension, webpage says: "We cannot detect a running copy of GNOME on this system, so some parts of the interface may be disabled." # 2) "Ubuntu way" Ubuntu integrated the GNOME extensions into the "Ubuntu Software" application. But there is no posibility to sort the extensions by popularity or number of downloads. There is even no way to filter the extensions with basic fulltext. So the "Ubuntu way" is really pain to work with. # What you expected to happen The best would be if the https://extensions.gnome.org/ would work in Ubuntu by default. # Software details I have fresh installed Ubuntu 18.04. [Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel
Hi. I'm experiencing problems that look very similar to the ones described in this bug report (can't boot from USB, changes made in UEFI won't save). This I noticed a couple days ago when trying to install a new distro, that failed with "Installing for x86_64-efi platform. Could not delete variable: interrupted system call. Grub- install:error:efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry: block device required" I had Ubuntu 17.10 installed last year. To make a long story short, I tried boot-repair and it failed, I tried installing other distros and got the same message. I tried upgrading the UEFI and it failed. It seems I can't even get a grub menu or prompt at startup. My computer boots to the message "no boot device on HDD". I can still boot however, if I pres F9 and manually choose "boot from EFI file" and select the proper .efi file (I can boot into Lubuntu 18.10). My computer is an HP Pavilion 14-n249nf I initially asked about the problem at https://askubuntu.com/questions/1104515. 1. how can I know for sure if this bug is the source of my problems ? 2. I followed the repair method described in the bug description. I can install kernel 4.15 without problems. But with no grub prompt at startup, how can I make sure to boot the right kernel that will fix my issues ? thanks in advance for some answers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1734147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1779757] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 installer failure related time synchronization issues on a DELL server
Adding this comment as a Note to Self, for future reference. I just had to reinstall Ubuntu 18.04 on the same server. This time, after setting the (Linux) system time using the `date` command, I then ran: ``` $ sudo hwclock --systohc ``` so that my local change would 'back-propagate' to the H/W clock. I'm mentioning this because my previous comment implied such a thing was impossible, due to the BIOS being password-protected with a (lost/unknown) password. But 10 seconds of Googling cleared up that misconception. And—if you find yourself in this situation—it really doesn't make sense to NOT set the H/W clock, too... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779757 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 installer failure related time synchronization issues on a DELL server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1779757/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1653351]
I should think we need to understand the use case rather than simply accept the proposed implementation at face value. Users want to signify for a message not to be auto selected on threadpane context/cycler column actions that remove a previous message. A global pref or even folder property is certainly the wrong way to go about this, as sometimes messages should be auto selected, and sometime not (as in a trash folder restoring or junking/deleting messages), and the same behavior is not necessarily consistently desired in the same folder at all times. So changing such a pref or property is very non ergonomic and imo such an implementation is a nonstarter. The patch does not intend to change existing behavior at all when a message is selected, for either message window actions or the imap delete model or anything else. However, deselecting (ctrl-left click) a message is the method used to indicate the user does not want subsequent auto selection to happen. It's the best way to finely tune the behavior with 1 click. I hope this makes the patch's intent clearer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1653351 Title: Have option to not automatically open next email To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunderbird/+bug/1653351/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
