[Bug 1804329] Re: lubuntu 19.04 daily - pcmanfm-qt moves window on opening device (two displays)

2019-01-17 Thread Chris Guiver
QA-test today on same "hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro
600)"

I've configured the two monitors as if one is directly above the other
(they are vertically stacked with slight horizontal difference I'm
ignoring).

When I click on folders in `pcmanfm-qt` the position of this window
moves to another part of the screen partially on one display, most on
the second display. When it's positioned on display0 (primary display),
there is no movement. It only 'jumps' when the window is positioned on
display1 (secondary display). Once it's moved, if I don't move the
window - it won't move again; but it's positioned part on each display &
I can't see the file/edit/view/bookmarks/.. menu as it's hidden by
display0 panel

Same behavior as on first report.

[Bug 1215182] Re: xfce 4 session manager does not save session

2019-01-17 Thread wgoltz
I have finally made sense of this. Some running applications appear
automatically in the 'Session' section, e.g. firefox, but others don't,
like google-chrome. To get chrome running automatically you have to
manually enter it in the 'Application Autostart' section. If you add
firefox to the 'Application Autostart' you will get two firefox's
starting. With this in mind autostart seem to work ok.

[Bug 1748565]

2019-01-17 Thread ishank005
Observing the issue on Fedora 29 Cinnamon. I have Lenovo T440P laptop on
which I am trying to connect my Bluetooth headsets (Sony MDR-XB650BT).

The Bluetooth is failing to even detect the headsets. At the same time,
it can detect my smart bands, mobile phones, other laptops etc. The same
headphones connect correctly on my Windows laptop.

In dmesg, I can see the messages as :

[Bug 1690085]

2019-01-17 Thread bp
Sorry but this bugzilla entry is humongous with 110 people on CC and all
reporting some different aspects of what they're seeing and what they're
trying and and...

In order to debug this properly, I'd like for someone to test the latest
upstream kernel 4.20 and try to reproduce the issue there. Then to
explain how exactly one has reproduced it. Once that happens we'll take
it from there with further questions.

Thx.

[Bug 1812198] Re: user_copy in user from ubuntu_kernel_selftests failed on KVM kernel

2019-01-17 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

- This test will attempt to insert the test_user_copy module, but this
- module does not exist in KVM kernels:
+ == Justification ==
+ This user_copy test has failed while attempting to insert the test_user_copy
module, but this module does not exist in the Bionic KVM kernel as the
CONFIG_TEST_USER_COPY was not enabled.

  # modprobe test_user_copy
  modprobe: FATAL: Module test_user_copy not found in directory
/lib/modules/4.15.0-1028-kvm

- The script:
- if /sbin/modprobe -q test_user_copy; then
- /sbin/modprobe -q -r test_user_copy
- echo "user_copy: ok"
- else
- echo "user_copy: [FAIL]"
- exit 1
- fi
+ == Fix ==
+ d7d5311 (selftests: user: return Kselftest Skip code for skipped tests)

- This test_user_copy will need the CONFIG_TEST_USER_COPY to be enabled
+ This patch can be cherry-picked into Bionic, and we already have it in
+ Xenial / Cosmic / Disco
+
+ == Test ==
+ With this patch, the test will be marked as skipped (and passed) instead of
failing on the Bionic KVM kernel.
+
+ == Regression potential ==
+ None,
+ this patch just change the code in the testing tool.
+
+ --
+
+ This test_user_copy module will need the CONFIG_TEST_USER_COPY to be enabled
  https://cateee.net/lkddb/web-lkddb/TEST_USER_COPY.html

[Bug 1152226] Re: nautilus no longer remembers view per directory

2019-01-17 Thread tellapu
I would still love to see something happen here.
Why can this crucial feature not be resurrected? :O
It does not need to be set by default but at least having the option to have
Nautilus remember the view per directory would be great. This is probably the
only reason I don't use Nautilus and I would like to return but cannot because
of this annoying bug.
Thanks for listening and hopefully somebody can have pity on us and work on
this. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1766945] Re: (EFI on top of legacy install) choosing "replace" or "resize" options in partitioning may lead to an install failure

2019-01-17 Thread Stephen Erbert
This bug is not fixed. My options, nearly a year after being first
reported, seem to be either erase the entire disk, or install something
other than ubuntu. Installing over an older ubuntu doesn't work, and
installing alongside other installs doesn't work, and "something else"
doesn't work. It also destroyed my ability to log into old versions,
except a 2014 version sitting on a different disk. It seems that ubuntu
will simply never be ready for the masses, and I'm not a tech idiot, I'm
just also not a grub wizard.

[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2019-01-17 Thread Chris K
And, after running the Ubuntu software update, the problem still exists with
4.15.0-43
uname -a
Linux platinum-ubuntu 4.15.0-43-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 6 14:45:28 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Doing the following workaround will 'fix' the bring the ethernet back up for me
also.
  sudo modprobe -r r8169
  sudo modprobe -i r8169

Maybe a 'fix' will be released which will work through the normal system
update.

[Bug 1812317] [NEW] grub is prevented from booting on UEFI Arm64 Laptops - requires 4k aligned headers

2019-01-17 Thread mahmoh
Public bug reported:

This will end up as an SRU request to patch grub with 4k aligned headers
to allow amr64 UEFI laptops to boot.

See https://www.mail-archive.com/grub-devel@gnu.org/msg28224.html and
related patch set (hopefully all approved when this bug is reviewed).

Without these changes booting grub on the Arm64 Snapdragon 835 laptop
platforms fail. If this can make it into 19.04 and the next 18.04.X that
would be most appreciated. Impacts the HP Envy x2, Asus NovaGo, Lenovo
Miix 630 and maybe the Lenovo Yoga C630 64-bit Armv8-A laptops.

[Bug 1812161] Re: Screen backlight control does not work in Disco on Dell XPS 9560

2019-01-17 Thread Rocko
Oops, it was either acpi_osi=! or acpi_osi='Windows 2009' that was
causing the problem. I had copied them in to try and get the nvidia card
working after resume, but it turns out they aren't needed for the nvidia
card to work anyway.

Sorry for the noise.

[Bug 1811808] Re: Tearing and/or flickering when using Intel graphics

2019-01-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for those files. I can see two possible problems (which may not
be problems but should be checked):

1. You are configured to use both the Nvidia driver version 410, and are
asking Xorg to configure the old Intel driver. In theory this should be
possible but OpenGL is really a very simple beast so it might be
confused in the Totem window with both drivers being present. :(

2. The intel Xorg driver doesn't recognise your new Intel GPU:

[19.882] (WW) intel(0): Unknown chipset

So it might be a better idea to stick with the default 'modesetting'
Xorg driver instead of selecting 'intel'. When you use the former you
only need kernel+Mesa support for your new Intel GPU. When you use the
latter you need kernel+Mesa support AND user space support (which
clearly doesn't exist) in the intel Xorg driver. So I think you should
remove this:

# Makes tearing in totem worse.
Section "Device"
  Identifier "Intel Graphics"
  Driver "intel"
  Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection

and continue investigating using the 'modesetting' driver only.

P.S. How many monitors are you using?

[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)

2019-01-17 Thread Kevin Knapp
One other bit of info I thought about that could be contributing is my
horizontal monitor is hooked up to a cheap 4 port HDMI switch (not a
true KVM switch, it's HDMI only). This seems to cause the monitor to
flicker back and forth during boot / loading the splash page as it looks
(to my untrained eye) like it can't decide if the HDMI is hooked up to a
monitor or not. Once the login page is displayed though that particular
problem is gone until the next boot.

[Bug 1812280] [NEW] Static ID mapping not functional in NFS

As you can see, even though static.so plugin was loaded, ID translation was not
performed.

Looking at this issue with GDB shows that static translation plugin is
skipped in these two lines in libnfsidmap.c:

...
if (plgns[i]->trans->funcname == NULL)
continue;
...

The reason that funcname is null is that pointers to name_to_uid,
name_to_gid, uid_to_name, gid_to_name are explicitly initialized to NULL
in the Ubuntu's version of libnfsidmap/static.c:

...
struct trans_func static_trans = {
.name   = "static",
.init   = NULL,
.name_to_uid= NULL,
.name_to_gid= NULL,
.uid_to_name= NULL,
.gid_to_name= NULL,
.princ_to_ids   = static_gss_princ_to_ids,
.gss_princ_to_grouplist = static_gss_princ_to_grouplist,
};
...

Please note, that in original sources of NFS these callbacks are
correctly initialized like so:

...
struct trans_func static_trans = {
.name   = "static",
.init   = static_init,
.name_to_uid= static_name_to_uid,
.name_to_gid= static_name_to_gid,
.uid_to_name= static_uid_to_name,
.gid_to_name= static_gid_to_name,
.princ_to_ids   = static_gss_princ_to_ids,
.gss_princ_to_grouplist = static_gss_princ_to_grouplist,
};
...

I am not sure why in Ubuntu's package the NFS static ID translation was
disabled, but if it was done deliberately it should've been documented
(maybe here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NFSv4Howto ?).

Side note: nsswitch translation works correctly.

[Bug 66566]

2019-01-17 Thread Msisaac
Here's my situation:  I use a Mac, but I use a Windows keyboard.  I
changed my modifier keys in MacOS system preferences so that Control is
now Cmd and Cmd is now Control. This means that I can use ctrl + key on
my keyboard for shortcuts, just like I would use in Windows (ctrl + c to
copy, ctrl + v to paste). If I didn't make that change in system
preferences, I'd have to use the Windows key for those same shortcuts
(win + c to copy, win + v to paste), which is not how the shortcuts work
in Windows. Before Firefox 64, ctrl + enter on my Windows keyboard
would autocomplete the URL with www. and .com, because I changed my
modifier keys in system preferences. This behavior is consistent with
how it would work using the same keyboard in Windows. Because of this
change to Firefox 64, I now have to use win + enter in Firefox, or I
have to change my system preferences modifier keys back to defaults,
which means Firefox would again use ctrl + enter on the keyboard to
autocomplete, but for everything else in the OS, I'd have to use the Win
key. So Firefox is now the odd program on my Mac. I have to retrain my
fingers to use win + enter on the Mac, but continue to use ctrl + enter
on Windows.

So while this is really more of a nuisance than a true show-stopper, it
would be nice if you offered a config that would revert the changes on
Macs if the user isn't using a Mac keyboard.

I'll upload this to Stable Release Updates queue for Ubuntu 18.04 but
this bug could use a test case and additional SRU information which can
be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.  Thanks!

[Bug 1812258] Re: Bionic amd64 netboot image has incorrect permissions on kernel

2019-01-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1812258/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
