[Bug 1813139] Re: Screen unlocked after resume, black flickering

2019-01-24 Thread alexalex
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I have been experiencing an issue only since a week or so, which I have
reportedly also heard from a colleague of mine (2018 Dell XPS 13) since much
longer.
My hardware is a Lenovo Thinkpad L480 with i5-8250u.

When using stock ubuntu 18.04.1, sometimes and sporadically (1 out of 3
or so) after resuming from suspend, the screen would not be locked and
flicker, switching between a fully black screen and the previously
(before going to standby) displayed content, which I regard as a
security issue. The GUI is not responsive, however I can workaround
using ctrl-alt-F1 and login using my password to "semi"-restore
functionality. The flickering is then gone, but e.g. the dock doesn't
respond correctly and my notifications are missing, until I restart
gnome-shell. This then leaves me with a fully functional system again,
which is why I have not regarded my issue the same as other bug reports,
  which report a system freeze.

I have tried using gnome-session instead of ubuntu-session for the past
day as of writing this report and have NOT yet experienced the issue
again, so I assume it has something to do with ubuntu's theme or alike.

- Please provide information which log files could be helpful and I am
- going to try and reproduce the issue on ubuntu-session.

[Bug 1812359] Re: Login screen not appearing in bionic [Intel Atom D425]

2019-01-24 Thread d a i s y
Daniel van Vugt,

Before reporting this bug,

I'd already done fresh installation of bionic-desktop-amd64.iso :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1812359/comments/3
as stated here.

All other steps lightdm, nomodeset, xorg.conf file I've done to solve the issue,
so now, undo all changes,
uninstall lightdm, remove nomodeset and xorg.conf file, changed
#WaylandEnable=false to WaylandEnable=false

Login screen did not appear so reboot and start in recovery mode.
Output of journalctl -b-1 > prev_boot.txt

2019-01-24 Thread Heikki Moisander
I partly agree. Users don't bother to report the bugs as it is difficult
and as this is free software and complaining feels unjustified. However I
am simply not able to put enough effort to prove my point (will be too busy
for that now). It is incredible that basic functionality is at such a poor
level. Bug appears to an ordinary user so vaguely that bug reporting fails
to show the cause of the problem. The most serious problems have been
somehow fixed, but it is still a shameful quality (standard ubuntu 18.04
clean install few months ago). Often we need to boot to be able to change
the user (sorry if you feel this is spam ... this message was inspired by
one such occasion again).

just found another solution using pass (apt-get install pass (and some
dependencies I'd rather not want to have installed, but still better
than having to install gnome-keyring...) ). this will not store plain

[Bug 1813059] Re: fwts 19.01.00-0ubuntu1 ADT test failure with linux 5.0.0-1.2

2019-01-24 Thread Colin Ian King
** Description changed:

+ == SRU Justification, Xenial, Bionic, Cosmic ==
+
+ The DKMS kernel module fails to build if new 5.0 kernels are used
+ because of an API change in access_ok().
+
+ == Fix ==
+
+ Add a kernel version detection and a macro compat fix to paper over the
+ API differences between the two version:
+
+ +#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= KERNEL_VERSION(5, 0, 0)
+ +#define ACCESS_OK(type, addr, size)access_ok(addr, size)
+ +#else
+ +#define ACCESS_OK(type, addr, size)access_ok(type, addr, size)
+ +#endif
+
+ and use ACCESS_OK instead of access_ok.
+
+ == Regression Potential ==
+
+ Minimal - this build time change will select the appropriate API, so the
+ final resultant compiled code will be identical to the original before
+ the patch for current kernels, and only different for 5.0+ kernels.
+
+ == How To test ==
+
+ Install fwts with a 5.0 kernel. Without the fix the dkms build of the
+ efi driver will fail. With the fix it will succeed.

[Bug 1813142] [NEW] Network connection lost after standby

2019-01-24 Thread Rainer König
Public bug reported:

System has a Realtek network card, so r8169 driver is used.

The behaviour occurs under the following circumstances:

$ sudo ethtool enp1s0

reports

Supports Wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: d

If in this case I send the system to standby (ALT-key plus pause symbol
from the control dropdown) then the system goes to standby. After waking
up the system the network connectivity is lost and the control panel for
network settings reports "cable disconnected".

The strange thing is: If I set the WOL properties to g with

$ sudo ethtool -s enp1s0 wol g

and do exactly the same, then the problem does not occur. I assume there
is a bug in the standby handling of the r8169 driver because network
connectivity shouldn't get lost if WOL is disabled.

[Bug 1812955] Re: g-ir-scanner/Shell-0.1 is crashing with SIGSEGV instead of succeeding

2019-01-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Finally bisected. It seems like a regression in upstream mutter master
this week:

1bbb5c8107ab77435f97c1b037a89a76121f6e3c is the first bad commit
commit 1bbb5c8107ab77435f97c1b037a89a76121f6e3c
Author: Jonas Ådahl
Date: Sun Jan 20 17:41:53 2019 +0100

meta: Only declare types when generating gir files

Some types were declared in the public headers so that g-ir-scanner
could resolve the types. This caused warnings when using
-Wredundant-decls, so only redeclare them for the gir scanner.

[Bug 1813139] [NEW] Screen unlocked after resume, black flickering

2019-01-24 Thread alexalex
Public bug reported:

Please provide information which log files could be helpful and I am
going to try and reproduce the issue on ubuntu-session.

[Bug 1810902] Re: firefox picks unpredictable window for opening new content when using i3 as a window manager

2019-01-24 Thread Jeff Abrahamson
With a bit of experimentation, I have the following hypothesis, which is
consistent with observed behaviour:

Firefox strongly prefers to choose windows that are visible, or would be
visible if their workspace were chosen. In the absence of a potentially
visible window, the choice of window is made according to some data
structure that I don't see (i.e., I don't know how to explain that
part).

In the context of a tiling window manager in which windows are tabbed
(i.e., multiple windows occupy the same screen position), this means
that I might have, say, two firefox windows, one on workspace 1 but in a
tab that isn't currently displaying, the other in workspace 3 but
displaying if I switch to workspace 3.

I'm reading mail (not in a browser) in workspace 1. I click a link,
expecting it to open in the firefox window in workspace 1, because that
is the firefox window with which I've recently been interacting. But it
opens in the (potentially visible, if I were there) window in workspace
3.

If I open a window in workspace 1 that is visible, then that window will
always be chosen for URL open events, regardless of other interactions I
have with firefox.

This didn't used to be the behaviour: it used to be the last window with
which I interacted. (The source tree is so complex and involves so many
projects, I'm not sure where to start looking for a commit that would
have affected window choosing.)

[Bug 1813133] [NEW] rpi-cm3 dtb is not present in the arm64 variant

2019-01-24 Thread Paolo Pisati
Public bug reported:

Impact:

The dtb for the Raspberry CM3 board is not shipped in the Bionic -raspi2
kernel arm64 variant.

Fix:

The dtb for the cm3 board was not compiled at all, in the arm64 arch:
apply the attached patch and recompile

How to test:

The linux-modules-*-raspi2_arm64.deb should contain the bcm2710-rpi-cm3
dtb now:

$ dpkg -x linux-modules-4.15.0-1031-raspi2_4.15.0-1031.33_arm64.deb foobar
...
$ ls -l foobar/lib/firmware/4.15.0-1031-raspi2/device-tree/broadcom/
total 92
-rw-r--r-- 1 ppisati ppisati 24566 Jan 23 12:59 bcm2710-rpi-3-b-plus.dtb
-rw-r--r-- 1 ppisati ppisati 24303 Jan 23 12:59 bcm2710-rpi-3-b.dtb
-rw-r--r-- 1 ppisati ppisati 23015 Jan 23 12:59 bcm2710-rpi-cm3.dtb
-rw-r--r-- 1 ppisati ppisati 17451 Jan 23 12:59 bcm2837-rpi-3-b.dtb

Regression potential:

The patch is trivial - it just builds the cm3 dtb if arch==arm64, and
doesn't modify any existing code, so there's no regression potential at
all.

[Bug 1801496] Re: Printing job in 16.04 is slower than in 14.04

2019-01-24 Thread William.Yeung
Dear Till,

Thank you very much for taking your time to help investigate this
issue and providing us a method to continue the investigation even when
you are so busy.

We had tried to figure out the difference of convert into PostScript and
no conversion to PostScript by the method you provide on the date
2019-01-18(#15).

But negatively, we don’t know the correct way to make it work.

We use the PPD attached (Ricoh-MP_C5503_PXL.ppd) to print a job. The output
capture file(test_modify_Fail.prn) shows that the capture command did not
convert normally.
The output capture file(test_modify_Fail.prn) on which you can figure out that
capture command file output by the PPD (Add "*FoomaticRIPCommandLinePDF:")
missing a lot of commands than the capture command file(test_original_OK.prn)
output by the original PPD (without modify).

We suspected the definition of FoomaticRIP Command is duplicate by below two
define(“*FoomaticRIPCommandLine:” and “*FoomaticRIPCommandLinePDF:”):
---
*FoomaticRIPCommandLine: "(printf '\033%%-12345X@PJL\n@PJL JOB\n@PJL SET
COPIES=&copies;\n'%G|perl -p -e "s/\x26copies\x3b/1/");
(gs -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dNOINTERPOLATE %B%A%C %D%E | perl -p
-e "s/^\x1b\x25-12345X//" | perl -p -e
"s/\xc1\x01\x00\xf8\x31\x44/\x44/g");
(printf '@PJL\n@PJL EOJ\n\033%%-12345X')"
*End
*FoomaticRIPCommandLinePDF: "(printf '\033%%-12345X@PJL\n@PJL JOB\n@PJL
SET COPIES=&copies;\n'%G|perl -p -e "s/\x26copies\x3b/1/");
(gs -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dNOINTERPOLATE %B%A%C %D%E | perl -p
-e "s/^\x1b\x25-12345X//" | perl -p -e
"s/\xc1\x01\x00\xf8\x31\x44/\x44/g");
(printf '@PJL\n@PJL EOJ\n\033%%-12345X')"
*End
---
So, we delete the command “*FoomaticRIPCommandLine:” from PPD, Hopping the way
can make it works correctly.
But the output capture file shows that this method is the same result with two
FoomaticRIP Command definition.

Can you lead us the correct way to the investigation of no conversion to
PostScript.

And if you have further investigation result, it’s appreciated to share
with us.

Attach file introduction:

Modify PPD Capture file: test_modify_Fail.prn

[Bug 1813132] [NEW] Please backport fix for bug that causes VLC to crash while hovering over certain menus

2019-01-24 Thread P.D.
Public bug reported:

Hi,

There was a bug in libmicrodns that caused VLC media player to segfault
while hovering over the "renderer" menu to cast media to a chromecast,
that was fixed in Debian.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=893284

It happens for me when I'm connected to a VPN and I hover over the menu.
Since it was fixed in Debian, is it possible for the fix to be
backported to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?

Thanks
