[Bug 1821496] [NEW] Sennheiser GSX 1000/1200 Volume control is interpreted badly

2019-03-23 Thread Ben A
Public bug reported:

These cards are picked up as having mute/VolUp/VolDown buttons, but they
only ever report a VolDown. Windows behavior (without manually installed
drivers) appears to match OS-side volume to the display on the card,
which suggests the card tries to report its volume level as an absolute
value. Ubuntu interprets it as turning the volume down (even if the
volume was actually turned up).

My workaround was to remap the "buttons" on the card to "reserved" using
the hwdb and manage OS-side volume with media keys on my actual
keyboard.

[Bug 1821494] [NEW] Sennheiser GSX 1000/1200: only one subdevice exposed by Pulse & incorrect channel mapping

2019-03-23 Thread Ben A
Public bug reported:

Similar to the Steelseries Arctis headphones, these sound "cards"
present as two output devices, one intended for voice chat and one for
everything else. As a result they also need a special profile.

But there's another complication. They also have hardware HRTF that
requires no special driver logic; instead, the "everything else" output
pretends to be 7.1, and simply applies the HRTF to the streams sent by
the host. However, the channel mappings picked up by ALSA are wrong --
the rear speakers and center/LFE are swapped.

I know, technically this is two bugs, but they have the same fix which
is impractical to separate. I'm attaching a "sennheiser-gsx.conf" based
on the Arctis 7 profile that both corrects the channel mapping and
exposes both output subdevices. A simple udev rule seals the deal:

ATTRS{idVendor}=="1395", ATTRS{idProduct}=="005e", ENV{PULSE_PROFILE_SET
}="sennheiser-gsx.conf"

It turns out I had local mods which were avoiding some of the

[Bug 1821491] [NEW] DNS lookup fails for local hosts

2019-03-23 Thread Steve Roberts
Public bug reported:

Mint 19 (Ubuntu Bionic)
Laptop so Using NetworkManager, and connecting wirelessly to LAN
Upgraded from Mint 18.3 so using resolvconf...

Versions:
network-manager: 1.10.6-2ubuntu1.1
resolvconf: 1.79ubuntu10.18.04.3 or 1.79ubuntu10.18.04.2
systemd: 237-3ubuntu10.15

dns is specified in NetworkMananager as 192.168.2.1
the dns is a router, and has static ips assigned to certain hosts on my lan...

$cat resolv.conf
nameserver 127.0.0.53
search phs
options edns0

$ nslookup phspi05
Server: 127.0.0.53
Address:127.0.0.53#53

** server can't find phspi05: SERVFAIL

If I explicity specify the dns:

$ nslookup phspi05 192.168.2.1
Server: 192.168.2.1
Address:192.168.2.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: phspi05
Address: 192.168.2.35

I get the correct ip address...

Same with dig...

I would expect that the nameserver set in network-manager would be
used

>From tail of $ systemd-resolve --status

Link 2 (wlp2s0)
  Current Scopes: DNS
   LLMNR setting: yes
MulticastDNS setting: no
  DNSSEC setting: no
DNSSEC supported: no
 DNS Servers: 192.168.2.1
  DNS Domain: phs

So the dns address had been picked up from NetworkManager, but
apparently is not being used...

Thought it might be related to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1817903

So installed the proposed fix, but no change. I also tried removing
package resolvconf, again no change...

2019-03-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit

package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1816808] Re: [disco] OSK does not appear under wayland when a text-entry is focused

2019-03-23 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi Andrea,

If the LibreOffice crashes mentioned in bug #1761554 have been fixed, we
should indeed revisit this issue. Is that something you have confirmed
yourself? If so, adding back the fix which prevents the variable from
being set on Wayland would be motivated.

I think that the latest upstream im-config version (40-1) would take
care of this bug. OTOH, the delta between im-config 38-1 and 40-1 is not
trivial, and since we are late in the cycle, I feel it would be safer to
wait with that upgrade until after the release of Ubuntu 19.04.

As regards X11, g-s-d - unlike im-config - does not set GTK_IM_MODULE at
all, but the variable has been set for many cycles on Ubuntu including
the flavors.

[Bug 1821483] [NEW] pip crashes when reinstalling native wheels

2019-03-23 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 18.04 (and ,

crashes on exit because their shared libraries are overwritten while in use.

To reproduce:

$ sudo apt install python-pip

Running (on some machines, at least) under gdb is illuminating:
$ sudo apt install python-dbg

That backtrace that looks similar to
https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/5366

Happily, the fix that was committed for the bug seems simple and
plausible, and cherrypicking it seems to prevent the crash.

[Bug 1789118] Re: Fails to boot under Xen PV: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at edc21fd9

2019-03-23 Thread Andy Smith
As mentioned in my first comment, this bug also affects the netboot
installer at e.g.
http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic/main/installer-i386/current/images/
so it is still not possible to boot the installer in 32-bit under Xen.
The main OS kernel has been fixed but not the installer kernel. Who do
we need to speak to in order to get that kernel fixed?

[Bug 1821462] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 Desktop:slow boot

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1821462/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1819915] Re: s2disk freezes at saving image to disk (hibernation)

2019-03-23 Thread Matheus
Ok so after running the right command to install the older kernel:

apt-get install linux-image-4.15.0-44-generic linux-headers-4.15.0-44
linux-headers-4.15.0-44-generic linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-44

Also tested with -42 and -43 versions, Hibernation worked just like
before with 4.15.0-43. So We can state this is a kernel bug since kernel
4.15.0-44, since with the -46, -45, -44 versions it doesn't work. It
also worked on the -42 version.

[Bug 1767817] Reminder of SRU verification policy change

2019-03-23 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to verify this stable release fix. We
have noticed that you have used the verification-done tag for marking
the bug as verified and would like to point out that due to a recent
change in SRU bug verification policy fixes now have to be marked with
per-release tags (i.e. verification-done-$RELEASE). Please remove the
verification-done tag and add one for the release you have tested the
package in.  Thank you!

Oh.. actually to completely fix smokeping's compatibility with smokeping
we need also a second patch (which is actually addressing the original
bug report *harrumpf*).

Tobias, the upstream author fixed compatibility for the -O and -S
options in the following patch, so it also needs to be included:

[Bug 1749942] Re: Smokeping 2.6.11-4 probe FPing is not compatible with fping 4.0 when setting sourceaddress option.

2019-03-23 Thread Gabriel Filion
Hi there!

I've recently started co-maintaining the smokeping package in debian
with Antoine Beaupré and I've worked on updating the package to 2.7.3.

it was recently brought to my attention (on the smokeping users mailing
list) that this bug existed in the ubuntu version of smokeping. This bug
is specific to bionic (at least in terms of ubuntu LTS releases) because
the version of smokeping shipped in bionic is not compatible with the
version of fping.

I've written a fix for upstream that was merged before 2.7.3 was
released, and so I believe that by cherry-picking this patch we'd be
fixing the issue for ubuntu.

The patch in question is here:

https://github.com/oetiker/SmokePing/commit/681457d0872057f79e2b2f97fa6ff8b6b415b48c

I'm currently trying to figure out how to produce a debdiff for easier
consumption by someone that can push a change to ubuntu. If I don't send a
debdiff this week-end though and someone is able to easily integrate the above
patch in the package, then please do go ahead and don't wait for my input! I'll
try and do my best to format this during the week-end though.

longer experience a crash after logging in.

Thanks to everyone involved in fixing this.

[Bug 694224] Re: Synchronous notifications briefly steal focus

2019-03-23 Thread Bhajneet Kohli
Hello from 2019. This is still a problem for me on Ubuntu 18.10. Is this
bug still being worked on? Could it be a related problem to gnome
notifications in general?

I can be typing in a chat room and often times the enter key will go to
the notification that popped up because a song track has changed and the
enter key instead forwards to the next track.

This also steals focus when notifications from GSConnect come up.
Awkardly typing a reply to SMS/WhatsApp messages.

The volume OSD does not take focus.

I apologize if this is the incorrect program to provide this bug-report
for. This is my first report.

Release:18.04

2) Package version
cddukes@greasy-desktop:~/crypt/web$ apt-cache policy xfce4-terminal
xfce4-terminal:
  Installed: 0.8.7.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Candidate: 0.8.7.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Version table:
 *** 0.8.7.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 500

3) What I expected to happen

Expected Ubuntu Desktop's start menu app search to differentiate between
"Xfce Terminal" and "Xfce Terminal Settings"

4) What actually happened

Two entries labeled "Xfce Terminal" appeared. And it's difficult to
choose the right one to bring up the terminal.

Poking further the package provided desktop files should have different names.
They do not.
cddukes@greasy-desktop:~/crypt/web$ grep Name=
/usr/share/applications/xfce4-terminal*.desktop
/usr/share/applications/xfce4-terminal.desktop:Name=Xfce Terminal
/usr/share/applications/xfce4-terminal.desktop:GenericName=Terminal Emulator
/usr/share/applications/xfce4-terminal-settings.desktop:Name=Xfce Terminal
/usr/share/applications/xfce4-terminal-settings.desktop:GenericName=Terminal
Emulator

Switched to LXQT desktop to report bug.
It only shows the menu entry for the actual terminal emulator

[Bug 1729576] Re: cannot perform operation: mount --rbind /snap /snap: Permission denied

2019-03-23 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
While snapd can read the home directory from the gecos system it is not
the technical difficulty preventing the use of arbitrary home directory.
This feature is currently unsupported and is listed as such on
https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/limitations-in-snapd/9718

I'm sorry for the inconvenience but we had to place those limitations on
the user's data location for now. As a workaround you can always mount
the desired volume instead of using symbolic links. You can store
/home/user anywhere you want as long as you use the mount system to do
that. The same goes for /root.
