I used your proposed modified file and the result was same as fixed. But
I can't confirm with Japanese text since I don't use JP.

[Bug 1820960] Re: No support for armhf/arm64/other ports

2019-04-06 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

Looking at the upstream calamares code there doesn't seem to be any
support for the arm architectures. Currently the bootloader code only
deals with i386/amd64. Whilst armhf can be a bit of a mess, I believe
there is now a consensus forming around grub on arm64/aarch64. It would
be great if this could be added.

Similarly calamares-settings-ubuntu is not geared for the 'ports'
architectures. The repo address is wrong and again the different
  bootloaders are not supported.

- Ubiquity works well with armhf/u-boot powerc/yaboot. Calamares is
+ Ubiquity works well with armhf/u-boot powerpc/yaboot. Calamares is

[Bug 1714264] Re: mtpaint's desktop file uses URL instead of file when opening

2019-04-06 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I can confirm this to be true in the 3.40-3 version which specifically
had a change from Debian:

  * MIME-type information was added in mtpaint.desktop (Closes:
#774502).

That said, imagining an SRU for so small and so easy a change is
unlikely, so we'll likely not see this fixed in any released versions of
*buntu.

Furthermore, the primary maintainers of LXDE, the Lubuntu team, have
moved on to LXQt as of 18.10 and with it a whole different set of apps.
The last version of Lubuntu with mtpaint in it was 18.04 which will be
supported until April 2021.

Additionally, it seems that mtpaint hasn't been updated in years (2 or 7
depending on where you're looking). I'd pretty much call it dead.
Therefore, I would really suggest looking into some other option for
your needs.

[Bug 1816222] Re: After updating to 18.04.2 and kernel 4.18.0-15.16 boot stalls

2019-04-06 Thread Zingam
At the moment I am inclined to wait for the 19.04 release before I try
again.

How did you manage to get that NVIDIA driver to load? Shouldn't that
proprietary driver selector to just work and setup whatever it is
necessary?

Anyway where can I get a reliable Bionic version that uses a newer
kernel? Maybe I can try.

BTW. The update that broke my installation contained xorg stuff.

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2019-04-06 Thread Vladymir
I noticed that it's switching at the following moments:
1. switching terminal from console to xorg (ctrl+alt+f2 -> ctrl+alt+f7)
2. resume from hibernation
3. os boot
all these cases are related to console in some way.
probably console meddles to layout somehow...

demo, with Windows on it. I tried to install Ubuntu 18.04 with a USB key, but I
encountered a problem: "Sorry, Ubuntu 18.04 has experienced an internal error".
I have this info (among others):

I couldn't find "/var/log/partman" but I found "/var/log/syslog".
I also added "/var/log/installer/debug", it may help.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or

[Bug 1823503] [NEW] systemd-resolved ignores /etc/network/interfaces on Ubuntu 18.04

2019-04-06 Thread Douglas Moyes
Public bug reported:

dns-nameservers entry in /etc/network/interfaces is ignored by systemd-
resolved-- all of the other settings work, which adds quite a bit of
confusion and frustration since Ubuntu recently switched to using
netplan.

It would be a **VERY** good idea to add a comment at the top of
/etc/network/interfaces that this file is now deprecated, and provide
information about the new netplan utility. Something similar was done to
/etc/resolv.conf years back.

** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1809576] Re: 18.04 seems to have a broken openvpn server configuration (template)

2019-04-06 Thread David
Hi Karl,
I found that by using `notify` and `daemon` when running openvpn in server mode
- the service does not work entirely as intended or expected (but it has been a
while and I do not remember what changed but iirc the behaviour broke my
setup/configuration). My configuration specifies to drop to the nobody user and
confines openvpn using apparmor using the following policy

# vim:syntax=apparmor
#include

/usr/sbin/openvpn {
  #include
  #include

  capability setuid,
  capability setgid,
  capability net_admin,
  capability dac_read_search,

  /etc/openvpn/** rw,

Don't pass None arg to neutron-keepalived-state-change

The original fix for bug 1818614 added two new cli args
when spawning neutron-keepalived-state-change but if
e.g. self.agent_conf.AGENT.root_helper_daemon is unset
then "None" string is passed which breaks the
neutron-keepalived-state-change daemon.

[Bug 1816497] Re: [snap] vaapi chromium no video hardware decoding

2019-04-06 Thread Matt Lee
Some updates:

- I can confirm that 'sudo snap install --channel=candidate/vaapi chromium'
installs correctly, as of today, with the same version indicated in the build
log.
- HW accelerated decode is not available when I apply the
'--ignore-gpu-blacklist' flag
- HW accelerated encode is available whether or not I apply
'--ignore-gpu-blacklist' flag
- I've attached the following three files, in a tar.bz2 archive, to show my
system config:
 1) vainfo output
 2) chrome://gpu default value
 3) chrome://gpu value after applying '--ignore-gpu-blacklist' flag

2019-04-06 Thread Steve Langasek
The error in your log is:

/etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub:
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ...

sortie d'état 1

This indicates that you have manually installed the 'grub' package,
which is not the recommended bootloader package in Ubuntu, and you have
not configured it. As a result, upgrading kernel package afterwards
results in an error.

To solve this issue you should remove the grub package from your system
by running 'sudo apt purge grub'.

[Bug 1823493] [NEW] Message held for moderation crashes mailman when used with MySQL

2019-04-06 Thread Alex King
Public bug reported:

There is a known problem when the version of mailman in 18.04LTS is used
with a MySQL database.

Resulting in a 500 error in postorius when going to "Held Messages" and
a traceback in the logs, ending with:

json.decoder.JSONDecodeError: Unterminated string starting at: line 1
column 1 (char 0)

According to Mark Sapiro:
> The issue is in storing a pickled representation of the json encoding of
> 'rule_misses'. This gets very long if you have lots of header filters,
> and with at least the mysql backend gets truncated in the database which
> causes the Unterminated string error.

> This is which should be
> fixed by . The
> fix in in Mailman core version 3.2.0

See the thread at https://lists.mailman3.org/archives/list/mailman-
us...@mailman3.org/thread/33UEST4ANA3NVCGQMD6NVFZAQFKCT7ET/

Also the related bug report at
https://gitlab.com/mailman/mailman/issues/576 which shows the traceback
from postorius.

I note from /usr/share/doc/mailman3/README.Debian:

For productive setups, SQLite3 is *not* recommended as database backend.
PostgreSQL or MySQL should be used instead. The database configuration can
be automated by installing 'dbconfig-pgsql' or 'dbconfig-mysql' and running
'dpkg-reconfigure mailman3'. A respective local or remote database server
has to be available in this case.

Perhaps the easiest "fix" for 18.04 (certainly not my preference, I'd
prefer an actual bug fix) is to put somewhere a recommendation to only
use PostreSQL for production setups.

Or I'm wondering if a DB model change to boost the size of the relevant
varchar column in the DB would be a possible workaround with minimal
impact?

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 1818049] Re: virtualbox dkms modules fail to build with linux 4.4.0-143.169 [error: too many arguments to function ‘get_user_pages’]

2019-04-06 Thread Joseph Huber
Another data point...

I have the following virtualbox test build

VirtualBox-6.0.5-129797-Linux_amd64

up and running with kernel

4.4.0-145-generic #171-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 26 12:43:40 UTC 2019 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

There were no issues during install, and everything went fine.

Also, for those interested, nvidia-418 from

http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu xenial/main amd64
Packages

has been updated and now builds with the above kernel as well. The
nvidia drivers were suffering from the "too many arguments to function
‘get_user_pages’" error as well.

@Benjamin,

Thanks for clarifying.

I for one am not able to tell if your proposal should be included. With
that said, I'm pretty sure that it would not be motivated to make it an
Ubuntu specific patch, i.e. if at all, it should be committed upstream.
So I would recommend you to propose it here:

Yeah the same bug in 19.04.

I have two disks: https://i.imgur.com/1BsKXIK.png 1 TB NVME SSD with Win
10 and empty 512 GB SATA SSD.

I want to install Ubuntu 19.04 on the second one.

It installs the bootloader on the first disk when I install it like this
https://i.imgur.com/9gSK1wo.png

Now in UEFI I see both entries on the same disk, so ignores the disk
selection in the dropdown menu at the bottom of the installer.

2019-04-06 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report and for your efforts to nail the problem.
Unfortunately the solution you propose would not be a proper fix. "JP"
is not a "lang" thing, the purpose is to match part of the family name.

Nevertheless, there seems to be something with that configuration file.
The similar bug #1787215 was reported a few months ago.

Attached please find an idea of a modified file. Would be great if you
could confirm that it addresses your issue.

And @Mitsuya, can you please confirm that the modified file works as the
current one when rendering Japanese.

The original problem and it's solution did also apply to me; however, I
did not find any option in xsane to change compression; I had to change

[Bug 1823490] [NEW] Incron causes defunct processes

2019-04-06 Thread Gerry
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu Disco Dingo (development branch)
Release:19.04
ii incron 0.5.12-1 amd64cron-like daemon which handles
filesystem events

gsker@veeta:~>incrontab -l
/home/gsker/tmp/incrontest/testfile.txt IN_CLOSE_WRITE
/home/gsker/tmp/incrontest/incron.sh $# $%

gsker@veeta:~>ps -ef | grep incron
root 5558 1 0 14:47 ?00:00:00 /usr/sbin/incrond
gsker 6366 5558 0 14:52 ?00:00:00 [incron.sh]
gsker 6371 6190 0 14:52 pts/400:00:00 tail -f incrontest.log
gsker 6386 5558 0 14:52 ?00:00:00 [incron.sh]
gsker 6390 5558 0 14:52 ?00:00:00 [incron.sh]

The incron works, but I end up with hundreds of defunct processes.

This bug report for RedHat implies a fix:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1656939

I grabbed the incrond executable from the x86_64 rpm here:
  https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1235814

It appears to be working correctly.

2019-04-06 Thread Richard Baka
Michael J (drvrmike1), many notebook families (from another
manufacturers too) have ACPI problems on linux. Just turn on your older
notebook, boot linux and check dmesg, you will see the ACPI table
issues. This Acer related thing looks so bad because these notebooks
even can't boot without additional parameters. Even so this is just a
typical thing.

[Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2019-04-06 Thread woob
For those affected by this who want or need speech-dispatcher, another
workaround may be to disable timer-based scheduling for PulseAudio.

For most, this can be done by locating the following line in your
default.pa file:

load-module module-udev-detect

...and replacing it with this:

load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0

(Note: default.pa is usually "/etc/pulse/default.pa", or
"~/.config/pulse/default.pa" if you have a local configuration)

This works well on my current system so far. Though, most of my machines
over the past few years have been affected by this bug, and I'm not sure
if it's quite worked for all of them.

[Bug 1659534] Reminder of SRU verification policy change

2019-04-06 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to verify this stable release fix. We
have noticed that you have used the verification-done tag for marking
the bug as verified and would like to point out that due to a recent
change in SRU bug verification policy fixes now have to be marked with
per-release tags (i.e. verification-done-$RELEASE). Please remove the
verification-done tag and add one for the release you have tested the
package in.  Thank you!

[Bug 1823488] [NEW] X11: When fractional-scaling is enabled switching to single to multi-monitor leads to un-appliable config

2019-04-06 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

In multi-monitor setup, enable x11 fractional scaling with:
 - gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features

Disable one monitor from g-c-c, then go back to linear multi-monitor

[Bug 1821924] Re: LXD Deb->snap transition fails in WSL due to snap command not working (yet)

2019-04-06 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Upgrading .deb-packaged lxd to the lxd .deb package that just
+ installs the snap fails when the lxd snap can't be installed.
+
+ * This breaks package upgrades and specifically do-release-upgrade in
+ the middle of the release upgrade.
+
+ * The fix lets skipping the installation of the lxd snap if lxd has not
+ been activated on the system.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1.
+ * Install the Ubuntu 18.04 app from the Microsoft Store on Windows 10
+ * Upgrade the packages to the latest versions in 18.04
+ * Make sure the lxd package is installed
+ * Run sudo do-release-upgrade
+ * Observe the release upgrade failing without the fix and offering skipping
the snap installation and then succeeding after skipping it.
+ * Observe the lxd package still being installed but the lxc and lxd commands
asking for installing the lxd snap
+ * Pretend that there is an activated lxd server:
+ # mkdir /var/lib/lxd
+ # touch /var/lib/lxd/server.crt
+ * Reinstall the lxd package
+ # apt-get install --reinstall lxd
+ * Observe the installation not allowing to skip the installation of the lxd
snap. (By removing the created file skipping can be made allowed again.)
+
+ 2.
+ * On a fully upgraded cosmic system install the previous version of the
package, then upgrade to the fixed version.
+ * Observe the upgrade succeeding
+
+ 3.
+ * On a fully upgraded cosmic system install the fixed version of the
package, then remove the lxd snap.
+ * Observe the lxc and lxd commands asking for installing the lxd snap.
+
+ 4.
+ * On a fully upgraded cosmic system purge the lxd packge and remove the lxd
snap.
+ * Install the fixed package and observe it installing the lxd snap as well.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The fix includes changing the packaged-shipped lxc and lxd commands to
print an error message if the lxd snap is missing. This is very simple and
unlikely to cause regressions.
+ * The change to the package's prerm script is more extensive and in case of a
programming error error it may cause upgrade/installation failures. The
provided tests excercise the
+
+ [Original Bug Text]
+
Upgrading from Bionic to Cosmic (or later) is not possible in WSL
  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Subsystem_for_Linux) since when
lxd package upgrade (with the deb -> snap transition) starts it can't be
completed successfully. The package upgrade can only be aborted if the
snap command fails, hence the distribution upgrade can't be completed
  either.

As a workaround one can do:

   $ sudo mv /usr/bin/snap /usr/bin/snap.real
   $ sudo ln -s /bin/true /usr/bin/snap

in a separate terminal, but this is not a smooth upgrade experience by
  any means.

The upgrade can fail the same way if the snap store is not available
possibly due to strict firewalling requirements and most likely distro
upgrades should work in those environments as well.

As a solution when the snap transition does not work during the package
upgrade please upgrade the package to a state, where new invocations of
lxd or lxc starts the snap installation later.

A prototype can be found here:

[Bug 1823383] Re: grub-efi fails to register boot entry

2019-04-06 Thread Grub
** Description changed:

- Every time grub is updating it removes an already existing efi boot entry
and tries to create a new one. In my case it fails to make new entry with an
error:
- grub-install: error: efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry:
Input/output error.
+ Every time grub is updating it removes an already existing efi boot entry
and tries to create a new one. In my case it fails to make the new boot entry
with an error:
+"error: efibootmgr failed to register the boot entry: Input/output error."

Due to this failure, system becomes unbootable since there is no boot
entry in efivar. I have to then manually boot system with
efi_no_storage_paranoia kernel parameter in order for grub to
  successfully install.

- There is already patch available for the main grub repository to fix
grub-install to not re-create efi boot entry if one already exists.

make full use of TLSv1.3. Currently OpenSSL 1.1.0 seems to be statically
linked.
