[Bug 1838122] Re: Opening the Settings dialog locks the desktop

2019-07-26 Thread Chris Guiver
Can you please provide a `ls -la /var/crash` as the file names
themselves tell us what crashes occurred (inc. when), which is more than
we have currently.

Do the 'times' of the .crash files correspond to when you're likely to
have hit the 'power' button to force-shutdown? or if unsure just respond
you can't recall.

Thanks again for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better

[Bug 1835664] Re: I can not install any Ubuntu distros in the UEFI mode (but BIOS-compability mode works without efforts): "Unable to install GRUB in /dev/sda"

2019-07-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes. Assuming upstream is correct that the problem is in the HP firmware
[1] then the only options are to ask HP for a BIOS fix, or to avoid
using UEFI on this machine.

I half believe it anyway... I also still wonder how Windows is able to
work on the machine and why the BIOS is only broken for Linux.

Sorry we can't help more.

[Bug 1838122] Re: Opening the Settings dialog locks the desktop

2019-07-26 Thread Dean Schulze
Running ubuntu-bug on the .crash file in /var/crash gave an internal
error popup.

Trying your instructions on point 2 on this URL:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/b3e0d3deed6257fc1b9ae70c24b2a09705d4bb29b1c4e2619a81359775c05b871501564c588e4ed7c7807dfaafe1dd95c6ecb2b3cd1f89744001cf8ffbb9266

shows a page with No Error on it.

Looks like we've struck out on post mortem analysis.

I installed the first upgrade and things are better. Maybe the update
fixed the problem.

[Bug 1589210] Re: snap remove "core" on classic not allowed

2019-07-26 Thread Guy Rouillier
Commenting on this old post I found via search because Uli.Heller's
suggestion worked for me to remove the snap core18 from Ubuntu 19.04.
The core18 snap was mounted thusly:

/dev/loop1355808 55808 0 100% /snap/core18/1066

First I disabled it:

snap disable core18

Then I unmounted it:

umount /dev/loop13

and then I could remove the snap:

snap remove core18

[Bug 1831700] Re: Mesa 19.0.8 stable release

2019-07-26 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mesa into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/19.0.8-0ubuntu0~18.04.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1837170] Re: Kodi package crash after the update of libdrm-amdgpu1

2019-07-26 Thread Tom Lake
Timo, I think the problem is with xorg-server,
along with mesa, it was present on the latest updates when the crash came up.

When kodi tries to load a video, its window simply closes.

If switch to Wayland, it works.
But everything is very buggy with this server, it's inoperable.

Maybe there are missing guidelines for my specific AMD APU?

[Bug 1838122] Re: Opening the Settings dialog locks the desktop

2019-07-26 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

When you say you cannot shutdown except through power button? Have you
tried [magic] sysrq keys to tell the kernel to safely shutdown? If
you're unfamiliar with them, this may be useful -
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=617349, or to a lesser extent
https://ubuntu.com/blog/prepare-for-when-ubuntu-freezes. Quoting from
the first ubuntuforums post "In case of a freeze where you cannot do
anything, simply press Alt+SysRq+R+S+E+I+U+B" (I refer you to the
aforementioned link for details on how to key it)

It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the
cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

ps: I added [magic] before as I find it easier to find the sysrq keys in
search engines by adding the word magic if I forget the actual key
combination I want to use.

[Bug 1832472] Re: cdc_ncm floods syslog unneccessarily

I was mistaken, the TRENDnet TUC-ET2G is actually based on RTL8156 while
the TUC-ET5G is effectively based on Aquantia IC. I made wrong
assumption since Aquantia also has a USB3.0 to ETH 2.5Gbe bridge.

Anyhow, so I tested with RTL8156 driver you linked (which actually is
part of RTL8152 driver) under Ubuntu 18.04.2. I had to tweaked driver to
support TUC-ET2G by adding the idVendor and idProduct of the device.
Could have used a modprobe conf file instead of tweaking the code.

Now the device works well without flooding anymore the logs !

[Bug 1769075] Re: [regression][bionic] Bluetooth keyboard battery reports 0% (in kernel 4.15 and later)

2019-07-26 Thread Brian Burch
The system is now running 19.04 x64 desktop. The problem has not changed
in any obvious manner, although reporting of battery status for its
external logitech bluetooth mouse is now correct.

Ca anyone suggest how to perform further problem determination, or
perhaps even a circumvention. The 0% battery notifications appear every
10 minutes or so and are very tiresome to regularly delete (re the
little boy who cried wolf).

Tried https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.1.20/ - less
corruption and now the splash screen starts but as soon as splash
transitions to the X display we get an immediate hang.

I believe the 5.0.0 crash occurs before the splash screen starts, so
it's really early in the boot process.

One other data point, booting the upgraded machine to the 4.15 kernel
and it works OK, so this corruption/hang is most probably not to do with
changes in userspace on the upgrade to -proposed.

[Bug 1829620] Re: intel-microcode on ASUS makes kernel stuck during loading initramfs on bionic-updates, bionic-security

2019-07-26 Thread Belen Guaranda
I have an Asus UX533FD with the same booting problems. I use Ubuntu
18.04 with kernel v5.1.10. I can confirm adding dis_ucode_ldr works.
Thank you @Mark for reporting this bug and the workarounds! I am also
following the issue on Intel's Github repository. I haven't seen a patch
from them.

[Bug 1838110] [NEW] "Zustanden" with capital "Z" is not a German word but the spellchecker does not compalin

2019-07-26 Thread Md Ayquassar
Public bug reported:

Package: emacs
Version: 1:26.1+1-3.2ubuntu2

Distribution: 19.04 disco.

How to reproduce:

1) Open an empty text file in emacs

2) Type in the following German sentence without the quotation marks:
"Wir sprechen von Zustanden in diesem Fall."

3) M-x ispell-change-dictionary[Enter] german-new8[Enter]

4) M-x ispell-buffer

5) Observe that no spellcheck error is reported. On the contrary, I
expect that "Zustanden" be marked as an error and two possibilities be
suggested: "Zuständen" (which would make sense semantically) and
"zustanden" (as the past tense of "zustehen", though it would make no
sense semantically.)

I think that the spellchecking in the background is done by aspell
(though I'm unsure).

[Bug 1838011] Re: Issue with upgrading from 18.04 to Disco 19.04

2019-07-26 Thread Ravnit
Any update on how I can find a list of said 'held broken packages'
and/or a solution to fix them in order to actually upgrade ubuntu?

Solutions I have tried include all of these :
1)
https://askubuntu.com/questions/223237/unable-to-correct-problems-you-have-held-broken-packages
2) https://appuals.com/fix-unable-correct-problems-held-broken-packages/

Didn't help me, those links..

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

[Bug 1825722] Re: Anki fails to start because QWebEngineView is not defined (missing import)

2019-07-26 Thread Carlos Pita
This worked for me, thanks! Anyway, I would like to point out that this
is a problem upstream and it would be nice to port the fix to Debian. I
have emailed the maintainer a couple of times because of this issue but
never got an answer. It would safe to consider upstream to be
unmaintained at this point, I guess.
