[Bug 1843226] [NEW] Installation on z14 LPAR via FTP load fails

2019-09-08 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Installation on z14 LPAR via FTP load fails. The installer breaks with
error message

"An installation step failed. You can try to run the failing item again
from the menu, or skip it and choose something else. The failing step
is: Install the ZIPL boot loader on a hard disk"

When opening a shell:
~ # chroot target/ bash
root@m35lp54:/# zipl
Using config file '/etc/zipl.conf'
Error: Config file '/etc/zipl.conf': No such file or directory

After creating a working zipl.conf the boot loader can be written to disk on
the shell and the disk becomes bootable. The Installer however still fails with
the same error message.

[Bug 1843222] Re: Old Linux version booted after upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10

2019-09-08 Thread Didier Roche
Thanks for testing the upgrade to 19.10. The only reason you would boot
with an older version of a kernel and zfs itself is due to your update
between 19.04 to 19.10 failed. Can you share the upgrade logs
/var/log/upgrade content and /var/log/dist-upgrade?

The weird part is that do-release-upgrade would have warned you about a
failed upgrade.

[Bug 1843222] [NEW] Old Linux version booted after upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10

2019-09-08 Thread BertN45
Public bug reported:

I have a triple boot with the following systems:
- Xubuntu 19.10 from zfs 0.8.1
- Ubuntu Mate 18.04.3 from zfs 0.7.12
- Ubuntu 19.10 from ext4

Upgrading the first system Xubuntu to 19.10 worked fine and I was very happy
with the almost perfect result and the nice grub-menu.
Upgrading to Ubuntu 19.10 created the following problems:
- That system booted after the upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10 in Linux 5.0 with zfs
0.7.12
- All grub entries with the ZFS systems disappeared and the whole nice
grub-menu was gone.

Running update-grub and grub install; I did see the Linux 5.2 version
appear, but it still booted from 5.0.

There were some error messages about mounting/importing during the zfs
part of the upgrade, but they were the same as the ones during the
Xubuntu upgrade and that upgrade worked perfectly.

[Bug 1840889] Re: Black Screen on 18.04 + Intel Graphics with Kernel > 4.15.0-47

2019-09-08 Thread Linuxium
Since commit ca876c7483b6 ("gpiolib-acpi: make sure we trigger edge
events at least once on boot") in the Linux mainline v4.18 kernel (and
also in stable v4.14.68 as commit fbb37b72489d) the Linux kernel now
calls _AEI edge handlers at boot.

Unfortunately the MINIX Neo Z83-4 mini PC has a DSDT bug where some copy
and pasted code for dealing with Micro USB-B connector host/device role
switching messes with the DDC data pin from the HDMI connector
(switching it to GPIO mode) breaking HDMI support.

For Ubuntu Bionic the mainline kernel change "gpiolib-acpi: make sure we
trigger edge events at least once on boot" is included in the
Ubuntu-4.15.0-56.61 tag as commit 4ea03f3e93f8 and released in the
4.15.0-58.64 linux package.

Starting with the 4.15.0-58.64 linux package and subsequent linux packages
including linux-hwe (4.18 and now 5.0 based) and linux-hwe-edge (5.0 and now
5.2 based) packages Ubuntu fails to boot
with working HDMI on MINIX Neo Z83-4 devices.

To fix this a proposed patch has already been submitted to the mainline
kernel linux-gpio team that disables the running of _AEI edge event
handlers at boot using a DMI based blacklist with the initial version of
this blacklist contains the MINIX Neo Z83-4.

This patch is currently under review. However once accepted and
mainlined (and incorporated into stable) it would be appreciated if it
can be backported to Ubuntu.

[Bug 1842447] Re: Kernel Panic with linux-image-4.15.0-60-generic when specifying nameserver in docker-compose

2019-09-08 Thread Ewen McNeill
FTR, 4.15.0-62 seems *much* better than 4.15.0-60. With 4.15.0-60 this
system was kernel panic restarting every 75-90 minutes; now it's been up
since I installed 4.15.0-62, over 5 hours ago:

-=- cut here -=-
ewen@naosr620:~$ uname -r
4.15.0-62-generic
ewen@naosr620:~$ uptime
16:09:54 up 5:26, 1 user, load average: 0.24, 0.25, 0.24
ewen@naosr620:~$
-=- cut here -=-

That one line fix seems important :-)

[Bug 1843164] Re: gnome-terminal starts, but shows no window

2019-09-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think gnome-terminal has other odd dependencies like it needs to
receive information about the login session and bus before it is willing
to display. For this reason I would recommend 'xterm' instead if you
need a working shell via ssh.

[Bug 1843214] [NEW] screenshot keyboard shortcuts depend on release order

2019-09-08 Thread milesf
Public bug reported:

According to this guide, the following keyboard shortcut should capture the
current window to clipboard:
Ctrl + Alt + Prt Scrn
https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/screen-shot-record.html

Sometimes this sequence will save to the ~/Pictures folder instead.
It depends on the release sequence of the keys. When Ctrl and Alt are released
at together, the outcome is seemingly random.

If Ctrl is released before Alt, then the screenshot will unexpectedly
bypass the clipboard and be saved to ~/Pictures.

Key sequence to reproduce unexpected behavior:
Press and hold Ctrl
Press and hold Alt
Press and release Prt Scrn
Release Ctrl
Release Alt

It's also strange that the screenshot is actually captured when either Ctrl or
Alt is released, and not when Prt Scrn is pressed or released.
For example:
Press and hold Ctrl
Press and hold Alt
Press and Prt Scrn <- Screenshot is not captured here
Release and Prt Scrn <- Neither is screenshot captured here
Wait 10 seconds
Release Alt <- This this is when screenshot is captured
Release Ctrl

Ubuntu 18.04

[Bug 1843207] [NEW] Doesn't boot on Raspberry Pi 4

2019-09-08 Thread Markus Birth
Public bug reported:

linux-raspi2 from Eoan (19.10) doesn't boot on Raspberry Pi 4 due to
missing kernel modules for the new hardware components. It would be nice
if these got included. Also it only boots the kernel when the Pi is
configured for 1GB RAM or less. (Then gets stuck on missing root FS
because the microSD isn't detected.)

[Bug 1843107] Re: Themes and font settings don’t apply to X apps running in Wayland (g-s-d 3.33.90 → 3.33.92 regression)

2019-09-08 Thread Anders Kaseorg
By adding some debugging output to mutter and gnome-shell I verified
that mutter emits the x11-display-opened signal before gnome-shell is
able to connect a handler for it, and the handler never runs.

(Possibly things would be different in the experimental autostart-
xwayland mode, but the whole system froze when I tried to log in with
that enabled.)

[Bug 1843152] Re: Kernel Panic with linux kernel 4.15.0-60 possibly related to network subsystem

2019-09-08 Thread Ewen McNeill
These symptoms sound very much like
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1842447 (I found
the bug I'm commenting on while searching for additional links about the
issue in 1842447). There's a -62 kernel in proposed updates which
hopefully contains the fix for this bug. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1842447 for hints
on how to install the proposed update kernel.

So far the trigger is sounding like NAT + 4.15.0-60 kernel + sufficient
time that the relevant uninitialised variable is not clean from boot.

I think this is the fix in -62:

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-bionic.git/commit/?h=master-
next&id=b502cfeffec81be8564189e5498fd3f252b27900

[Bug 1842271] Re: Infinite loop in __blkdev_issue_discard() consumes the entire system memory when formatting a raid array

2019-09-08 Thread Matthew Ruffell
This was released in 4.15.0-59-generic and works as intended. Marking
Fix Released. Note, this still needs to land in linux-gcp for Bionic due
to some technical reasons.

man-db is just a stray victim here and doesn't really have anything to
do with the actual problem, which is that you have a local perl
installation in /usr/local/bin that's interfering with the debugging
process. I strongly advise you to keep local perl installations in some
other directory that isn't on the system $PATH for upgrades.

[Bug 1509822] Re: package man-db 2.7.0.2-5 failed to install/upgrade: eindeloze triggerlus; afgebroken

[Bug 1842447] Re: Kernel Panic with linux-image-4.15.0-60-generic when specifying nameserver in docker-compose

2019-09-08 Thread Ewen McNeill
I agree with Taher (in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1842447/comments/15),
this bug seems to impact a lot of systems (my colo host was kernel panic
restarting about every 75-90 minutes, all weekend). It has a NAT
firewall on it (for the hosted VMs), but no Docker/Wireguard, etc. My
guess for the 75-90 minutes is that is how long it took to dirty enough
memory that the relevant value just happened not to already be 0 (NULL).
(Curiously I installed -60 on Thursday last week, and the first issue
didn't happen until Friday, so it's been worse over the weekend than the
first 24 hours. I enabled kernel.panic=15 after the first issue, to
automate recovery, and was *extremely* glad I did so.)

Honestly I'd suggest withdrawing -60 as it's very unstable in a lot of
common configurations. And also suggest expediting the release of -62,
which AFAICT just contains the one line fix for the bug in -60.

Now it's Monday morning (and thus I can get into the colo if needed),
I've upgraded the colo system to the proposed -62 version, and crossing
my fingers the system is more stable as a result.

In case it helps others, I found I needed to:

(a) https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed (changing "xenial"
to "bionic", for 18.04 LTS, including enabling the low priority pin of
bionic-proposed); and

(b) sudo apt-get install linux-generic/bionic-proposed linux-signed-
generic/bionic-proposed linux-headers-generic/bionic-proposed

(without at least two of those three, the proposed update metapackages
wouldn't install due to conflicts; I'm not sure if linux-signed-generic
is needed, but it's still installed, so I chose to keep it in sync.)

That list of packages found by looking for 4.15.0-60 versioned packages
that didn't have that version in their package name (ie, to find the
generic metapackages).

Ewen

PS: Reboots (due to kernel panic, and kernel.panic=15 sysctl) over the
weekend:

[Bug 1424478] Re: package man-db 2.7.0.2-5 failed to install/upgrade: los disparadores han entrado en bucle, abandonando

2019-09-08 Thread Colin Watson
dpkg: se encontró un bucle al procesar los disparadores:

[Bug 1843201] [NEW] Unity in Wayland prompts for keyboard focus on each run of ssh-askpass-gnome

2019-09-08 Thread Luke Faraone
Public bug reported:

When using a Wayland-based Unity session on Ubuntu 19.04:

1. Have ssh-askpass-gnome as your askpass program.
2. ssh-add -c
3. `ssh` to a host

Each time, before the ssh-askpass prompt is shown, Unity shows this
dialog:

+-+

ssh-askpass wants to inhibit shortcuts

You can restore Shortcuts by pressing
Super+Escape.

_
| Deny | Allow |
+-+

This is mildly distracting, and it means that you need to hit ,
answer, , instead of just answer .

[Bug 1685522] Re: out of date snapshot

2019-09-08 Thread Jason A. Donenfeld
Hey apw and adconrad -- a long time ago (2.5 years) we decided to keep
WireGuard from migrating into Ubuntu. There's been tons of progress
since then. It's now in the progress of migrating down into Debian
testing and stable. I think it's time we let it migrate into Ubuntu too.
Is there anything that needs to be done on your part of the build infra
to unblock this?

[Bug 1843107] Re: Themes and font settings don’t apply to X apps running in Wayland (g-s-d 3.33.90 → 3.33.92 regression)

Thanks Anders. I'm hoping this is fixed by the patches from
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/merge_requests/680 - if
you're able to build your own gnome-shell package, maybe you could try
those commits? Otherwise, we should get them in the distro shortly (this
week).

[Bug 1843197] [NEW] Time reported for having downloaded the packages is way off

2019-09-08 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

It took about 30 minutes for me to download the packages for a distro
upgrade, yet it reports it took 6 seconds.

I'm upgrading from Disco to Eoan test version, using the command

 sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Excerpt from the output:

7 packages are going to be removed. 81 new packages are going to be
installed. 1940 packages are going to be upgraded.

You have to download a total of 1,964 M. This download will take
about 4 hours with a 1Mbit DSL connection and about 3 days 4 hours
 with a 56k modem.

 [...]

 Fetching
 Get:1 http://hu.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/main amd64 locales all
2.30-0ubuntu1 [3,870 kB]
 Get:2 http://hu.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/main amd64 libc6-dbg amd64
2.30-0ubuntu1 [5,736 kB]
 [...]
 Get:2020 http://hu.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/universe amd64

 Get:2021 http://hu.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/main amd64 xbrlapi amd64
5.6-11ubuntu2 [63.0 kB]
 Fetched 1,964 MB in 6s (1,094 kB/s)

The last line is faulty. The actual time was maybe about 30 minutes, not
6 seconds :-D

Note that the two other values shown in the last line, namely the
overall size and the average download speed seem to be correct, and
dividing these two indeed gives about 30 minutes.
