[Bug 1849371] Re: [snap] Cannot run headless chromium as user www-data
The system-wide /tmp is not accessible by strictly-confined snaps, so /tmp/chromium-home won't work either. In any case this looks like a limitation hard-coded in snapd, which won't create $SNAP_USER_DATA if $HOME is not in /home. So this is not specific to the chromium snap. I'll add a snapd task to the bug. As a workaround (I realize this is less than ideal), could you maybe create a user with a home directory in /home just for this purpose, and have have your server process run chromium as this user? ** Summary changed: - [snap] Cannot run headless chromium as user www-data + [snap] Cannot run chromium as user www-data because home directory is /var/www ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Also affects: snapd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849371 Title: [snap] Cannot run chromium as user www-data because home directory is /var/www To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1849371/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1849484] [NEW] ultra-wide monitor recognized properly when plugged in only intermittently
Public bug reported: I have an LG ultra-wide (2560x1080) monitor. Sometimes when I plug it into my laptop, whose screen was working fine before I plugged it in, both screens go black but nothing else happens. I can still see the mouse cursor and move it between the two monitors (sometimes in the correct location configuration I've configured, sometimes not), but nothing is rendered on the screens. Sometimes when I plug the monitor in, it comes on, but the resolution is wrong. Sometimes it is actually recognized and configured correctly. Frequently I have to unplug the monitor and plug it back in three times or more before it is recognized correctly. I wish it just worked right the first time. :-/ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Package: gnome-shell 3.34.1-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-19.20-generic 5.3.1 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-19-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Wed Oct 23 08:34:07 2019 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-09-12 (40 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.04 "Disco Dingo" - Release amd64 (20190416) RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.1-1ubuntu1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to eoan on 2019-09-20 (32 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849484 Title: ultra-wide monitor recognized properly when plugged in only intermittently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1849484/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1849483] [NEW] shiftfs: prevent exceeding project quotas
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: Currently shiftfs allows to exceed project quota and reserved space on e.g. ext2. See https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/6333 for a report, specifically https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/6333#issuecomment-545154838. This is caused by overriding the credentials with the superblock creator's credentials whenever we perform operations such as fallocate() or writes while retaining CAP_SYS_RESOURCE. Fix: Drop CAP_SYS_RESOURCE at superblock creation time from the effective capability set. Regression Potential: Limited to shiftfs. I wonder if it should, as it contains this line: ``` Fixes: f5a47fae6aa3 ("iwlwifi: mvm: fix version check for GEO_TX_POWER_LIMIT support") ``` And that patch was recently backported to 5.3: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/commit/?h=linux-5.3.y=3a0b7157d6a9833cefd40b5f0fa1cc90285bb4b5 Thus I suspect that 12e36d98d3e5 should be backported, too. [Bug 1849482] [NEW] shiftfs: fix fallocate()
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: Currently shiftfs limits the maximum size for fallocate() needlessly causing calls such as fallocate --length 2GB ./file to fail. This limitation is arbitrary since it's not caused by the underlay but rather by shiftfs itself capping the s_maxbytes. This causes bugs such as the one reported in https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/6333. Fix: Currectly set up s_maxbytes when creating the shiftfs superblock. Regression Potential: Limited to shiftfs. Test Case: Try fallocate --length 3GB ./file on top of a filesystem with fallocate support on a fixed kernel and see that the call succeeds and the file is of the expected size. [Bug 1841936] Re: Rebuild openssl 1.1.1 to pickup TLSv1.3 (bionic) and unbreak existing builds against 1.1.1 (dh key size)
** Description changed: [Impact-Bionic] * openssl 1.1.1 has been backported to Bionic for its longer support upstream period * That would allow the extra feature of TLSv1.3 in some consuming packages what seems "for free". Just with a no change rebuild it would pick that up. [Impact Disco-Focal] - * openssl >=1.1.1 is in Disco-Focal already and thereby it was built -against that already. That made it pick up TLSv1.3, but also a related -bug that broke the ability to control the DHE key, it was always in -"ECDH auto" mode. Therefore the daemon didn't follow the config -anymore. -Upgraders would regress having their DH key behavior changed -unexpectedly. + * openssl >=1.1.1 is in Disco-Focal already and thereby it was built + against that already. That made it pick up TLSv1.3, but also a related + bug that broke the ability to control the DHE key, it was always in + "ECDH auto" mode. Therefore the daemon didn't follow the config + anymore. + Upgraders would regress having their DH key behavior changed + unexpectedly. [Test Case] + A) * run "haproxy -vv" and check the reported TLS versions to include 1.3 + B) + * download https://github.com/drwetter/testssl.sh + * Install haproxy +* ./testssl.sh --pfs :443 +* Check the reported DH key/group (shoudl stay 1024) +* Check if settings work to bump it like +tune.ssl.default-dh-param 2048 + into +/etc/haproxy/haproxy.cfg [Regression Potential-Bionic] * This should be low, the code already runs against the .so of the newer openssl library. This would only make it recognize the newer TLS support. i'd expect more trouble as-is with the somewhat big delta between what it was built against vs what it runs with than afterwards. * [1] and [2] indicate that any config that would have been made for TLSv1.2 [1] would not apply to the v1.3 as it would be configured in [2]. It is good to have no entry for [2] yet as following the defaults of openssl is the safest as that would be updated if new insights/CVEs are known. But this could IMHO be the "regression that I'd expect", one explcitly configured the v1.2 things and once both ends support v1.3 that might be auto-negotiated. One can then set "force-tlsv12" but that is an administrative action [3] * Yet AFAIK this fine grained control [2] for TLSv1.3 only exists in >=1.8.15 [4] and Bionic is on haproxy 1.8.8. So any user of TLSv1.3 in Bionic haproxy would have to stay without that. There are further changes to TLS v1.3 handling enhancements [5] but also fixes [6] which aren't in 1.8.8 in Bionic. So one could say enabling this will enable an inferior TLSv1.3 and one might better not enable it, for an SRU the bar to not break old behavior is intentionally high - I tried to provide as much as possible background, the decision is up to the SRU team. [Regression Potential-Disco-Focal] - * The fixes let the admin regain control of the DH key configuration -which is the fix. But remember that the default config didn't specify -any. Therefore we have two scenarios: -a) an admin had set custom DH parameters which were ignored. He had no - chance to control them and needs the fix. He might have been under - the impression that his keys are safe (there is a CVE against small - ones) and only now is he really safe -> gain high, regression low -b) an admin had not set anything, the default config is meant to use - (compatibility) and the program reported "I'm using 1024, but you - should set it higher". But what really happened was ECDH auto mode - which has longer keys and different settings. Those systems will - be "fixed" by finally following the config, but that means the key - will "now" after the fix be vulnerable. - -> for their POV a formerly secure setup will become vulnerable -I'd expect that any professional setup would use explicit config as it -has seen the warning since day #1 and also any kind of deployment -recipes should use big keys. So the majority of users should be in (a). -c) And OTOH there are people like the reporter who strictly NEED the - key to be small for their devices they have to support. They will - finally be able to use the small keys again which formerly was - impossible. + * The fixes let the admin regain control of the DH key configuration + which is the fix. [Bug 1848475] Re: TB with Gnome - main window size problem
Thanks for the report. I cannot observe the issues you describe. I'm running a fully up-to-date 19.10, with the default GNOME desktop, and I can tile the unmaximized thunderbird window to the leftmost half of the screen by dragging it to the top-left corner, and I can also resize the window so that the width is < half the width of the screen. The latter probably depends on your screen resolution, and on the layout you use in thunderbird. Can you share details on those? And can you test again the first problem and confirm you can reliably reproduce it? ** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848475 Title: TB with Gnome - main window size problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1848475/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1848402] Re: No indication that thunderbird is starting
I cannot observe the problem you describe. I've tested in a fully up-to- date 19.10 VM, with both the default GNOME desktop, and in the Unity session. In both cases, when starting thunderbird with a keyboard shortcut, the cursor immediately turns into a spinner, and in the case of Unity the icon in the launcher immediately starts glowing (if thunderbird is not a favourite app the icon appears at the bottom of the launcher). [Bug 1849472] [NEW] Bionic raspi3 images should have the same cloud-init datasource setup as eoan
Public bug reported: [Impact] In eoan we switched the datasource configuration from shipping the NoCloud config on the rootfs to actually doing that in the system-boot boot partition. For our images to be consistent throughout various supported series, those changes should be backported to bionic. Also, since we basically use one gadget tree for all the series, we'd want the bionic parts up-to-date in case we introduce breaking changes in the gadget. [Test Case] 1. Image build test. * Start a bionic-proposed classic raspi3 build * Make sure the build succeeds 2. Test if datasource is correct. * Boot up the newly built raspi3 image * Make sure that you can log in with the usual default ubuntu/ubuntu user * Check that the boot partition (as mounted in /boot/firmware) has the user-data file 3. Check if raspi2 did not regress. * Start a bionic-proposed raspi2 build * Make sure the build succeeds * Boot the image * Make sure you can correctly log in with the default ubuntu/ubuntu user [Regression Potential] There is a minimal regression potential related to this upload as we are introducing a small delta from what we have in eoan. In eoan we stopped building raspi2 images completely, but for bionic this 'variant' is still supported, so first regression potential I see is in breaking the default user configuration for those images. Other regression potential might be all related to the 999-cpc-fixes hook, in case some configuration is not skipped for certain architectures. ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Łukasz Zemczak (sil2100) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Łukasz Zemczak (sil2100) Status: In Progress ** Also affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Łukasz Zemczak (sil2100) ** Changed in: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849472 Title: Bionic raspi3 images should have the same cloud-init datasource setup as eoan To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+bug/1849472/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1724895] Re: MTU not applied on private ethernet interfaces
Still broken on 18.04.3 with netplan 0.98-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 and systemd 237-3ubuntu10.31. With dhcp set to false, use-mtu seems to be useless. The only affordable workaround I found is to create an override .link file that only matches by mac address and set the MTU. For example: [Match] MACAddress=aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff [Link] MTUBytes=9000 saved as /etc/systemd/network/10-cmonsystemdsetmtuforme.link. Reboot (maybe also "systemctl restart systemd-networkd" works) and mtu should be set. [Bug 1849437] Re: [snap] user has no permissions to open downloaded files if download folder is set to /tmp
That's a known problem. Strictly confined snaps are not allowed to read/write to the system-wide /tmp, that would open the door to spying on other applications and more advanced malicious behaviours. [Bug 1841936] Re: Rebuild openssl 1.1.1 to pickup TLSv1.3 (bionic) and unbreak existing builds against 1.1.1 (dh key size)
** Description changed: - [Impact] + [Impact-Bionic] * openssl 1.1.1 has been backported to Bionic for its longer support upstream period * That would allow the extra feature of TLSv1.3 in some consuming packages what seems "for free". Just with a no change rebuild it would pick that up. + [Impact Disco-Focal] + + * openssl >=1.1.1 is in Disco-Focal already and thereby it was built +against that already. That made it pick up TLSv1.3, but also a related +bug that broke the ability to control the DHE key, it was always in +"ECDH auto" mode. Therefore the daemon didn't follow the config +anymore. +Upgraders would regress having their DH key behavior changed +unexpectedly. + [Test Case] * run "haproxy -vv" and check the reported TLS versions to include 1.3 - [Regression Potential] + [Regression Potential-Bionic] * This should be low, the code already runs against the .so of the newer openssl library. So any user of TLSv1.3 in - Bionic haproxy would have to stay without that. There are further -changes to TLS v1.3 handling enhancements [5] but also fixes [6] which -aren't in 1.8.8 in Bionic. + Bionic haproxy would have to stay without that. There are further + changes to TLS v1.3 handling enhancements [5] but also fixes [6] which + aren't in 1.8.8 in Bionic. So one could say enabling this will enable an inferior TLSv1.3 and one - might better not enable it, for an SRU the bar to not break old -behavior is intentionally high - I tried to provide as much as possible -background, the decision is up to the SRU team. + might better not enable it, for an SRU the bar to not break old + behavior is intentionally high - I tried to provide as much as possible + background, the decision is up to the SRU team. + + [Regression Potential-Disco-Focal] + + * The fixes let the admin regain control of the DH key configuration +which is the fix. But remember that the default config didn't specify +any. Therefore we have two scenarios: +a) an admin had set custom DH parameters which were ignored. He had no + chance to control them and needs the fix. He might have been under + the impression that his keys are safe (there is a CVE against small + ones) and only now is he really safe -> gain high, regression low +b) an admin had not set anything, the default config is meant to use + (compatibility) and the program reported "I'm using 1024, but you + should set it higher". But what really happened was ECDH auto mode + which has longer keys and different settings. Those systems will + be "fixed" by finally following the config, but that means the key + will "now" after the fix be vulnerable. + -> for their POV a formerly secure setup will become vulnerable +I'd expect that any professional setup would use explicit config as it +has seen the warning since day #1 and also any kind of deployment +recipes should use big keys. So the majority of users should be in (a). +c) And OTOH there are people like the reporter who strictly NEED the + key to be small for their devices they have to support. They will + finally be able to use the small keys again which formerly was + impossible. + +Summary: (a) good (c) good, (b) good, but a regression in some POV [1]: https://cbonte.github.io/haproxy-dconv/1.8/configuration.html#3.1-ssl-default-bind-ciphers [2]: https://cbonte.github.io/haproxy-dconv/1.8/configuration.html#3.1-ssl-default-bind-ciphersuites [3]: https://www.haproxy.com/documentation/hapee/1-8r2/traffic-management/tls/#define-bind-directives-on-the-frontend [4]: https://github.com/haproxy/haproxy/blob/master/CHANGELOG#L2131 [5]: https://github.com/haproxy/haproxy/commit/526894ff3925d272c13e57926aa6b5d9d8ed5ee3 [6]: https://github.com/haproxy/haproxy/commit/bc34cd1de2ee80de63b5c4d319a501fc0d4ea2f5 [Other Info] * If this is nack'ed we will need an upload that prevents to
