[Bug 1799319] Re: Upgrade to 18.10 fails: Please install all available updates

2019-11-08 Thread Guy Rouillier
Brian, thanks for the responses. Please see my last action:

root@ubuntu64:~# apt-get purge lldb

This allowed do-release-upgrade to finally proceed. gnome-shell and
gnome-shell-common were wild gooses. The key ingredient seems to be
this:

root@ubuntu64:~# apt-get upgrade
The following packages have been kept back:
  lldb

Once I purged lldb, the release upgrade was clear to go. So, the hiccup
seems to be held-back packages. I don't know enough about the inner
workings of the upgrade process to understand how held-back packages
figure into it.

[Bug 1851552] Re: since ubuntu 18 bionic release and latest, the ubuntu18 cloud image is unable to boot up on openstack instance

2019-11-08 Thread Vasili
The instance creation was working until calico configured on controller
and compute. Ubuntu 16 and Centos releases are booting up successfully.
As known ubuntu began to work with netplan since 18 and all latest
releases. Not sure the issue with cloud init or the order or timing of
booting process which relates to getting IP in time and properly.

[Bug 1851901] [NEW] Touchpad doesn't work on Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1

2019-11-08 Thread Mickael VIey
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu 19.04 on Dell inspiron 7000 2-in-1.

After a fresh install the touchpad doesn't work, the touchscreen doesn't
work, when the laptop doesn't recover after a suspend to RAM, it boots
only with noapic option. The laptop is very recent, I think the hardware
is not supported well. But I would like your advice, perhaps I can do
something to get a working setup.

[Bug 1834771] Re: No HDMI-audio after kernel 4.15.-0.50

2019-11-08 Thread Rolando Gorgs
Please excuse the delay.

I can confirm now, that Kernel 5.3.0-19 is also affected by this
problem.

Thanks for your assistance but I don't see why switching to proprietary
drivers should be the right solution for a regression introduced as a
side effect of a bugfix. In your bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1827967 you rated
the regression risk of the fix as "low" but now the forums are full of
users who have no sound. I gave some English examples of that. Could
also add a lot German forum threads dealing with this problem. Should
all those people install amdgpu-pro to get their sound back?

As I already stated: Having no sound devices available at all is much
worse than having some unnecessary jacks available in gnome-sound-
settings.

[Bug 1851898] Re: kpat stuffs hard drive

2019-11-08 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You haven't provided any details as to what messages are being logged
(I wonder if they aren't kpat messages, but something else that occurs
during or due to game, eg. video or other driver messages etc).

I loaded a 'live' system (Lubuntu 20.04 because it was handy), installed
`kpat` & tried playing a game (Klondike - you didn't provide game
played; part of it was in 'demo' mode) watching via `du -hs /var/log` in
a terminal for changes, but directory size remained static at 464K.

I booted the Kubuntu 19.10 ISO, and played another game of klondike. As
before a good portion was in demo mode (more than half), but I reversed
moves, and did other things players would likely do as in prior test.
During this game (screen stopped at Congratulations! We have won) the
size of /var/log/ didn't alter for either (using `du -hs` to monitor it
during game in a terminal). I could not re-produce this issue.
Possibly `kpat` is a trigger that causes messages from other packages to
be created...

My ~/.xsession-errors did grow to 117M on Kubuntu 19.10 which does seem
to relate to `kpat`, but it's not the 5GB you mentioned (you didn't
specify a game, I chose my favorite Klondike)

I'm marking this "incomplete" as your report says you don't have `kpat`
installed, thus no package details have been provided.

You've provided little detail as to what messages filled /var/log/; in
fact neither my 19.10 Kubuntu test, nor Lubuntu 20.04 test output
anything to /var/log/syslog so I suggest you look, and provide some
detail. This will provide clues as to where the messages come from, if
it's related to hardware (that differs from my own) and other packages
that are involved.

Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When you provide these details, please change status back to "New". If
you believe I'm in error, or have overlooked something - please likewise
return status to "New" and leave a comment explaining why. Thank you
again for helping to make Ubuntu better.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Just an FYI: If you connect the removable-media plug, you should be
able to access files and directories mounted under /mnt and /media; it
won't expand to /usr/share/ though.

** Description changed:

  [impact]

- due to recent change to run armhf tests in nested lxd container,
+ due to a recent change to allow armhf tests to run lxd containers,
  autopkgtest for systemd on disco fails consistently.

  [test case]

  see test results, linked in original description below.

  [regression potential]

  very low, autopkgtest fix only.

  [other info]

  original description:
  ---

  Since the recent few weeks systemd autopkgtest @ armhf @ disco fail [1].

  The log is very (very) long and partially interwoven due to concurrent
execution.
  Somewhere in between we see this subcase is the one failing: root-unittests
  Of this test (which again has many subtests) it is: test-execute
  And of this again it is (always):

  I'll attach bad and good case full and stripped logs.

  The diff of those comes down to just:
  1. execute a find in a shell
  2. shell exits
  3. exec-dynamicuser-statedir.service: Main process exited, code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS
  vs
  3. exec-dynamicuser-statedir.service: Main process exited, code=exited,
status=1/FAILURE
  4. in the bad case that triggers an assertion
  The find that fails is:

  find / -path /var/tmp -o -path /tmp -o -path /proc -o -path /dev/mqueue
  -o -path /dev/shm -o -path /sys/fs/bpf

  Good and bad case are the same most recent version
  systemd/240-6ubuntu5.7.

  Maybe something is bad in the containers we have for armhf in regard to these
paths?
  Was there any change we'd know of?

  If there is nothing known, could we force-badtest it to get it out of
  the way of ongoing migrations?

[Bug 1840640] Re: sync_file_range fails in nspawn containers on arm, ppc

2019-11-08 Thread Bryan Quigley
** Description changed:

  [impact]

  calling the glibc function sync_file_range() on a armhf nspawn container
  fails.

  [test case]

  see sample C program from original description below. compile and run
  that inside a nspawn container on armhf and it will fail.
+
+ nspawn instructions:
+ sudo apt install debootstrap systemd-container
+ sudo -i
+ debootstrap --arch=armhf bionic ~/bionic-tree/
+ systemd-nspawn -D ~/bionic-tree/

  [regression potential]

  this only adjusts nspawn to allow the sync_file_range2 syscall which is
  used on armhf, so the regression potential is very low. any possible
  regressions would likely be when calling sync_file_range().

  [other info]

  original description:
  ---

  ARM has two sync_file_range syscalls, sync_file_range and
  sync_file_range2. The former is apparently not used, and glibc calls the
  latter whenever a userspace program calls sync_file_range. I'm guessing
  systemd-nspawn doesn't know this, because the follow code consistently
  fails in an nspawn container on ARM:

  #define _GNU_SOURCE
  #include
  #include
  #include
  #include

  void main()
  {
  int f = open("/tmp/syncrange.test",O_CREAT|O_RDWR,0666);
  int r=sync_file_range(f, 0, 0, 0);
  if (r)
  perror("sync_file_range");
  close(f);
  }

  This seems to be causing problems specifically for borg(backup) and
  postgres:

  https://github.com/borgbackup/borg/issues/4710

https://www.postgresql.org/message-id/flat/CA%2BhUKG%2BydOUT4zjxb6QmJWy8U9WbC-q%2BJWV7wLsEY9Df%3Dmw0Mw%40mail.gmail.com#ac8f14897647dc7eae3c7e7cbed36d93

  The solution should be to cherrypick
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/13352, I am currently waiting
  for systemd to rebuild on a slow ARM box. Any chance of an SRU?

[Bug 1805183] Re: systemd-resolved constantly restarts on Bionic upgraded from Xenial

2019-11-08 Thread Steve Langasek
This has been wrongly marked as fixed in eoan. It's not; the fix for
this is still in eoan-proposed in systemd 242-7ubuntu3.2. I don't know
why the separate bug LP: #1849608 was used for that SRU vs this one.
Maybe the argument is that in eoan, systemd-resolved is *never*
restarted, instead of being *always* restarted? But I think they should
be treated as the same bug.

[Bug 1851897] [NEW] devicetree command should be disabled in Secure Boot mode

2019-11-08 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
A devicetree command could be used to load an unsigned device tree file, which
will override the hardware configuration exposed to the kernel. This could
potentially be used to subvert Secure Boot.

[Test Case]
grub> devicetree foo
error: Secure Boot forbids loading devicetree from foo.

[Regression Risk]
The idea of Secure Boot and externally provided devicetree are inherently
incompatible - there's no known system that requires this config, but it is of
course possible someone somewhere is doing it.

[Bug 1851895] [NEW] No access to local files outside /home

2019-11-08 Thread Nils K
Public bug reported:

Due to the fact that snaps are very restricted one is unable to open local
files outside of ones own home directory.
An example where such an access is common are files from *-doc packages like
`/usr/share/doc/python3-doc/html/index.html`.
I don't know if this is fixable with the current interfaces or if this requires
a classic confinement mode but I miss this feature as sometimes running a
webserver is not an option...

[Bug 1848340] Re: Lenovo ThinkPad e580 touchpad and trackpoint stopped working lately

2019-11-08 Thread Marian Sigler
I'm having the same problem:
On, a Thinkpad T470: Booted 5.0.0-32 (Stock Ubuntu 19.04). After several days,
mouse (both touchpad and trackpoint) stopped moving. External USB mouse works.
Rebooted into 5.0.0-31, now it works again, so it seems to be an issue with the
kernel...

[Bug 1851892] [NEW] Sync statsmodels 0.10.1-2 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2019-11-08 Thread Rebecca Palmer
Public bug reported:

(only just uploaded, so you might not see it yet)

This is in experimental because it removes Python 2 support before
Debian-unstable's rules allow; this is not an issue here as the Ubuntu
version has already dropped it.

Overriding the Ubuntu changes, as they are no longer needed:

The functionality of 1+5 (drop python2) and 4 (fix flaky test) is now
included in the Debian package.

2+3 (set --doc-main-package) I intentionally chose not to do: if we
think it's a bug that debhelper doesn't recognize python-$x-doc ->
python3-$x, I suggest fixing that in debhelper, not ~600 individual
packages.  https://lists.debian.org/debian-python/2019/07/msg00044.html

[Bug 1818547] Re: hid-sensor-hub spamming dmesg in 4.20 - 5.3

2019-11-08 Thread Connor Kuehl
Okay, looks like an additional patch set has just landed that rate
limits this error when the threshold is spilled over and that's being
tracked here and THAT is what is fix committed:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1850600

The patch for this bug raised the threshold and that is in fact fix

[Bug 1851887] [NEW] Sound only works works again if the volume is raised more than 50%

2019-11-08 Thread Kristoffer Grundström
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I play a clip (be it a Video, song or a radiostation, it
doesn't matter) and I have the volume lowered to 10% I can't hear any
sound whatsoever. Not until I raise the volume with Fn + F12 (F12 has a
speaker icon on it to raise the volume).

It's as if PulseAudio is muted until I raise the volume.

[Bug 525552] Re: Byobu overwrites shell prompt setting

2019-11-08 Thread bhs
I was also affected by issue.

But thanks to thread, I found how to disable PS1 changing by byobu.

Default bash.rc enables byobu colorizing if it exists:

[ -r /home/bhs/.byobu/prompt ] && . /home/bhs/.byobu/prompt   #byobu-
prompt#

If line is commented, PS1 remains identical to what's set by bash of user's
.bashrc setting.

Personally, I feel byobu's authors tried to make prompt better but
terminal program limitations might be screwing it up :(.

[Bug 1851858] Re: adds ESM to sources.list.d unconditionally, despite it being x86-only

2019-11-08 Thread Adam Conrad
If we update the archives (which seems to be the current plan of
attack), I'm not sure we need to update the tool to not enable it. It
would be nice if it mentioned that the arch you're on isn't supported,
so you don't expect kernel updates and the like, but it's harmless to
let those people get tzdata and distro-info-data updated.

Let's see how the archive hackery goes on Monday, though.

[Bug 1851885] [NEW] Icons missing after automatic snap refresh

2019-11-08 Thread Alberto Donato
Public bug reported:

I had my browser running for a long time, noticed that when saving a
page or downloading a file, icons in the save dialog are missing (see
attached screenshot).

Checking "snap info chromium", it seems the snap has been recently
refreshed, so I still had the older version of the app running.

Restarting the browser fixed it.

[Bug 1851865] Re: bug reporrt

2019-11-08 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
