[Bug 1871659] Re: there is no way to set the keymap / keyboard layout on the login screen

2020-04-13 Thread evils
on further review, i was going from memory and it seems like if multiple
layouts are set, at least in the latest 20.04 image, you get the option
to set the layout

which means this isn't an issue, except when a bug like 877371 occurs,
which is a separate issue...

i'm not seeing a way to close this bug

** Tags added: apport-collected tricia

** Description changed:

My webcam Z-Star 305b was supposed to work out of the box [1], but it
doesn't work in bionic. It only shows a black screen.

I've read lots of threads and tried some suggestions, but
  unsuccessfully.

At present, I'm using bionic x86_64 with kernel 5.3.0-46-generic, before
that I tried it with 4.15.0-96 and some previous versions.

  lsmod |grep gspca output is:

  gspca_zc3xx57344 0
  gspca_main 24576 2 gspca_zc3xx
  videobuf2_vmalloc 20480 1 gspca_main
  videobuf2_v4l2 24576 1 gspca_main
  videobuf2_common 49152 2 gspca_main,videobuf2_v4l2
  videodev 208896 5
gspca_main,gspca_zc3xx,videobuf2_v4l2,videobuf2_common

  lsusb output is:

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I tried several ubuntu-version to figure out if the error was introduced
recently into the kernel but couldn't find any working version

I've tried cheese, vlc and guvcview.

  I've tried LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
cheese which made change cheese change it's error message and vlc to not
  work at all.

I would appreciate any help, because I'm completely lost. :-(

  Thanks in advance!

2020-04-13 Thread vivek gangwar
acc. to me this happens when I make use of my storage(ssd), I tried
switching to different ubuntu versions and kernels, I was not having this
problem on 20.04 but I was having other problems related to package
installations, thats why Iswitched back to 19.10 and then to 18.04. Nothing
worked.

[Bug 1872634] [NEW] Webcam Z-Star 305b doesn't work in Ubuntu (again)

2020-04-13 Thread Hoffmann
Public bug reported:

My webcam Z-Star 305b was supposed to work out of the box [1], but it
doesn't work in bionic. It only shows a black screen.

I've read lots of threads and tried some suggestions, but
unsuccessfully.

At present, I'm using bionic x86_64 with kernel 5.3.0-46-generic, before
that I tried it with 4.15.0-96 and some previous versions.

lsmod |grep gspca output is:

gspca_zc3xx57344 0
gspca_main 24576 2 gspca_zc3xx
videobuf2_vmalloc 20480 1 gspca_main

videodev 208896 5
gspca_main,gspca_zc3xx,videobuf2_v4l2,videobuf2_common

lsusb output is:

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I tried several ubuntu-version to figure out if the error was introduced
recently into the kernel but couldn't find any working version

I've tried cheese, vlc and guvcview.

I've tried LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
cheese which made change cheese change it's error message and vlc to not
work at all.

I would appreciate any help, because I'm completely lost. :-(

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1782275] Re: Conflict between resolvconf and systemd-resolved dhclient scripts

2020-04-13 Thread Daniel Richard G.
This issue is still present in Ubuntu focal.

Here is what I see that needs to happen:

systemd: The /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved script should be
renamed to something like 00resolved or aaa_resolved, so that other
packages that install scripts into that directory will have their
scripts override whatever definitions are in the "resolved" script. (It
is notable that the avahi-autoipd package installs a file named
"zzz_avahi-autoipd" into /etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/, apparently so
that it always runs last.)

systemd: The "resolved" script itself is obviously a modified version of
the one shipped with resolvconf; a comment at the top still even names
the original project. There is a conditional at the top that checks for
the presence of /lib/systemd/systemd-resolved (exactly where the
original checks for /sbin/resolvconf), but this check is pointless---the
systemd-resolved file not only belongs to the same package as the
script, the package in question is systemd, which for all intents and
purposes cannot be removed. Instead, the check should be on whether
systemd-resolved is enabled, e.g.

if systemctl is-enabled systemd-resolved | fgrep -q enabled ; then

systemd: In general, the "resolved" script could use some cleanup,
particularly on removing bits related to resolvconf that do not apply to
systemd-resolved.

resolvconf: It may be worthwhile for this package to disable systemd-
resolved upon installation (and re-enable it upon renewal), as that
presumably would be the intent of anyone installing it.

[Bug 1870636] Re: x11vnc keeps display blazing away forever

2020-04-13 Thread gregrwm
as i use this setup daily i have plenty of opportunities and have taken
note of more details. i have specifically looked for a correlation
between whether the desky mouse had been left over the vncviewer window
or not, and whether later i may find the lappy screen shut off or still
on. i do not find any such correlation. which also absolves the desky
mouse from any suspicion of keeping the lappy screen on with occasional
wiggles. similarly, the lappy touchpad is also absolved, because when
x11vnc isn't running, the lappy screen always shuts off. so can't blame
the mice, either for wiggles, or for their positions.

[Bug 877371] Re: keymap at login screen is set to qwerty after upgrade

2020-04-13 Thread evils
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871659 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871659

The issue here is that an upgrade caused the keymap used at the
login/lock screen to be changed without the user specifying such an
action.

bug 1871659 is that there is no way of specifying such an action at that
screen, which could help recover from this, but it is a separate issue.

[Bug 1820584] Re: seahorse assert failure: seahorse: glib-watch.c:195: timeout_update: Assertion `!t->dead' failed.

2020-04-13 Thread Matthew Ruffell
This bug is triggered when I went to upgrade the avahi packages as part of a
daily upgrade in focal:

$ sudo apt list --upgradable
Listing... Done

When the dpkg hook is run to restart the avahi service, seahorse looses
connection to the avahi-daemon:

[Bug 1872595] Re: clojure package - missing clj script from /usr/bin

2020-04-13 Thread Elana Hashman
Okay, I have updated the blocking bugs https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=891141 (tracks upload of the new CLI) and
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=891136 (tracks status
of tools.deps.alpha).

Summary:

- There are a couple relatively easy clojure dep version bumps required. One of
those two is also a dependency of Leiningen. Previously, lein depended on an
older version, but that's now been bumped, so I can go ahead and complete those
uploads \o/
- There is a NEW upload required for a Clojure gitlibs dep. That package itself
is relatively straightforward. However,
- The java deps of the gitlibs package require significant upgrades to make
this happen.
- This summary also assumes I patch out support for talking to AWS, which will
require a bunch of NEW uploads I'm not up for doing right now.

Is anyone in the Ubuntu community able/willing to tackle the Java version bumps
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=905547
and
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=905546
?

I'm confident that once those Java updates are complete, I should be
able to finish the rest without issue.

[Bug 1872595] Re: clojure package - missing clj script from /usr/bin

2020-04-13 Thread Elana Hashman
Hello Benjamin,

The upstream bug for this is https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=902763

I haven't taken a look at it in a while. There's a number of
dependencies and patches required to get the clj CLI scripts included in
Debian/Ubuntu, as detailed in the bug.

I will see if I can at least give a status update in the near future.

The driver you are seeking is xserver-xorg-video-intel-hwe-18.04 but

 journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

[Bug 1872598] [NEW] Please remove ipython-py2 from Ubuntu

2020-04-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

ipython-py2 was removed from Debian.

The package carries a Ubuntu diff to adapt to the python2 binary rename
but that isn't needed if we remove the package.

ipython-py2 is keeping 3 source packages from migrating to focal since
those updates drop python2 packages used by ipython.

Please remove ipython-py2 from Ubuntu, once bug 1872596 is fixed.

[Bug 1872595] [NEW] clojure package - missing clj script from /usr/bin

2020-04-13 Thread Benjamin Howell
Public bug reported:

Clojure 1.9 and later include additional executables (scripts) that are
not currently being packaged and distributed as part of the clojure
Ubuntu package. Notably missing is the 'clj' script/executable that
should be present at /usr/bin/clj. Manually installing Clojure from the
official clojure.org shell script installs these executables. It also
looks like the clojure-tools-x.x.x.jar library is not being packaged.

>From https://clojure.org/reference/deps_and_cli

Contents:
bin/clojure - main tool
bin/clj - wrapper for interactive repl use (uses rlwrap)
deps.edn - install level deps.edn file, with some default deps (Clojure,
etc) and provider config

[Bug 1872596] [NEW] matplotlib should not Build-Depend on ipython

2020-04-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

matplotlib is the last package that has a dependency on ipython
(currently provided by source: ipython-py2). Once ipython-py2 is
removed, there are 3 packages stuck in the output report that will be
able to migrate to focal.

This dependency was fixed in Debian, so I'm backporting the dependency
update and filing this bug for the benefit of the Ubuntu release team
since matplotlib is a seeded package.

[Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop)

2020-04-13 Thread Tim Richardson
I have been trying to work out how to log a failed session with plymouth debug
messages. I finally succeeded, it is attached.
Note that at the end of log file, it goes into suspend. That was me trying to
power off the machine, and not holding the button long enough. It actually
suspends and resume right back to the stuck plymouth display, but I don't know
any way out except to force the machine off.

[Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop)

2020-04-13 Thread Tim Richardson
I have been investigating other bug reports. I can't find anything that
helps my very much, but I did note references to timing. It is very
puzzling why I don't have problems when booting from the installation to
an external drive. That drive is actually a USB stick (ext4 formatted).
My internal ssd uses lvm, the stick not, but the stick is also much
slower, just in case that is relevant.

[Bug 1872593] [NEW] Please remove dh-kpatches from Ubuntu

2020-04-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

dh-kpatches depends on nowebm which is no longer built from source noweb
since it is an obsolete transitional package.

dh-kpatches fails to build from source because it needs to adapt to the
latest gtk-doc.

dh-kpatches was removed from Debian Testing, but hasn't been removed
from Debian Unstable yet.

Please remove dh-kpatches from Ubuntu.

[Bug 1872588] [NEW] Please remove pyrit from Ubuntu

2020-04-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Please remove pyrit from Ubuntu.

It was already removed from Debian Testing and Unstable.

The only diff that Ubuntu has is a minimal Python2 transition fix that
is obsolete if we just drop the package.

It depends on python-scapy (source: scapy) which was dropped as part of
the Python2 removal effort.
