I think in a lot of places s390x guest still do have assigned IP addresses, so
maybe asking for autoconfig or manual network config is the right thing?

Fortunately under KVM all virtio devices are auto activated. And for
everything else just do that depending on the first decision.

If you want to have full headleass installation, the user should use
kickstart, autoyast, preseed or your new way.

Yes that works, but it requires root as the parameter things mounts the
ISO.

[Bug 1875444] Re: dl-ubuntu-test-iso in stable (rev 3) bustimicated

2020-04-29 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
For the snap, this is because data_dir in distro_info is hardcoded to
/usr/share/distro_info/ whichi corresponds to the version included in
core18 not the version that ships with the snap itself.

Version 20200427 (1754) of core18 contains the right data file with
information about groovy.

distro-info could be updated to allow an override of data_dir instead of
using a hard coded path.

Meanwhile you can either wait until latest core18 is released to stable
or upgrade core18 to latest/candidate.

[Bug 1875708] Re: Truncated messages during shutdown

2020-04-29 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Ok I can reproduce this in a container without much setup (no guests needed):
Watching the journal when running starr/stop:

root@f:~# systemctl start libvirt-guests
Apr 30 05:45:55 f systemd[1]: Starting Suspend/Resume Running libvirt Guests...
Apr 30 05:45:55 f systemd[1]: Finished Suspend/Resume Running libvirt Guests.

root@f:~# systemctl stop libvirt-guests
Apr 30 05:46:12 f systemd[1]: Stopping Suspend/Resume Running libvirt Guests...
Apr 30 05:46:12 f libvirt-guests.sh[37141]: Running guests on default URI:
Apr 30 05:46:12 f libvirt-guests.sh[37150]: Running guests on
Apr 30 05:46:12 f libvirt-guests.sh[37132]: R
Apr 30 05:46:12 f systemd[1]: libvirt-guests.service: Succeeded.
Apr 30 05:46:12 f systemd[1]: Stopped Suspend/Resume Running libvirt Guests.

My gut feeling is that this is about the buffering through eval_gettext
that is used for translation - but I need more time.

Since it is not functionally impacted the severity is low (for now until
we know more).

Thanks for the report Laurent, you don't need to add the data I asked in
comment #3 anymore.

[Bug 1875708] Re: Truncated messages during shutdown

2020-04-29 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The truncated messages might just be an issue due to output buffering,
but lets analyze this one by one. First of all I'm wondering more about
the different PIDs in the output ...

I think I can see the same when I make the guests in a way that it runs a bit
longer:

[Bug 1875708] Re: Truncated messages during shutdown

2020-04-29 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Laurent,
this is very odd - it is a service that just has a start/end action.
I wonder how we could call this thrice on shutdown.

First of all - is this reproducible and showing every time so that we
can try to debug it a bit - or is it only sometimes? I'm assuming it is
reproducible since you had the time to pick a camera ...

Could you check (and report here) what these report for you:

$ systemctl status libvirt-guests
$ systemctl cat libvirt-guests
$ journalctl -u libvirt-guests

[Bug 1853369] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"

2020-04-29 Thread Jan-Jonas Sämann
I recently came across this issue multiple times in ansible-managed virtual
environments. (Really bad)
This happens to me all the time because of invalid GRUB configurations.
Namingly if GRUB is set to also output to serial when there is no serial port
attached to the vm.

Could imagine that maybe at the time of the last kernel update, there
was (accidently) some usb drive connected to the mashine of the TE wich
grub now manifested and requires to map the device tree... o.O

If so, both cases must not prevent a mashine from being bootable.

[Bug 1876035] [NEW] Consider making '-o Acquire::Retries=3' the default for 'apt-get update/install/dist-upgrade'

2020-04-29 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

We operate archive.ubuntu.com as well as mirrors of it in various
places. We're getting reports of various CI/CD jobs failing. Sometimes
due to routing issues, issues with overloaded servers/VMs hosting
archive, etc.

Any chance we can make '-o Acquire::Retries=3' the default for 'apt-get
update/install/dist-upgrade'? Preferably with a randomised skew between
retries.

Also, any chance of having apt-get retry with different IPs/hosts
returned from the DNS lookup? (e.g. for archive.ubuntu.com -
91.189.88.142, 91.189.88.152, ...).

Thanks.

[Bug 1876034] [NEW] apt update crashes with "KeyError: 'suite'" in cnf-update-db if index compression is enabled

2020-04-29 Thread Michael Sparmann
Public bug reported:

On all Ubuntu releases since at least 19.10, enabling compressed APT
package list storage with command-not-found installed leads to this
crash in the cnf-update-db hook called by apt update:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/cnf-update-db", line 26, in
col.create(db)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/CommandNotFound/db/creator.py", line 93,
in create
self._fill_commands(con)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/CommandNotFound/db/creator.py", line
127, in _fill_commands
self._parse_single_commands_file(con, fp)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/CommandNotFound/db/creator.py", line
165, in _parse_single_commands_file
suite=tagf.section["suite"]
KeyError: 'suite'

(To enable compressed APT list storage, add Acquire::GzipIndexes "true";
to an apt.conf fragment.)

This appears to be caused by apt downloading an lz4-compressed command
list for command-not-found and cnf-update-db passing the
/var/lib/apt/lists/*Commands-*.lz4 files to db/creator.py, which does
not know about the compression and attempts to parse them as plain text.

[Bug 1875594] Re: multipathd failed to get udev uid, add missing path

2020-04-29 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Rafael,
I agree to give the approach a chance but we'd want buy in by the VMWare people
just to be sure.
You know, If we fix a disk type that never works that is great. But I'd want to
avoid that we change behavior for a disk type that "sometimes" fails, because
it might regress people for which it is working right now.
So if it isn't to much effort to come up with something we can have it
discussed when upstreaming to [1].

About the details - would that rule make the output of sg_id or whatever
is used internally work then - or does it provide a different way for
multipath to pick up an ID?

[Bug 1876020] Re: Old IP does not go away

2020-04-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1876020/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1875596] Re: Django Timefield(default=) gives unhelpful diagnostics

2020-04-29 Thread Simon Lambourn
Dear Rafael,
Thank you for responding to my bug report. I'm sorry I didn't provide the
full information you ask for, and based on your feedback I'm not sure whether
this is a bug or not. It is certainly a user error, but the bug I'm hoping to
raise is with the unhelpful diagnostics, rather than my own mistake.

I've provided more info below. I would be grateful if you could take a
look and decide whether this qualifies as a bug - then based on your
advice I will be happy to re-open the bug or not.

Steps to reproduce the bug:
- Define a model class as follows
class Test(models.Model):
testfield = models.TimeField(default=datetime.timedelta(0))
# I acknowledge this is a user error but it is accepted by Python, and
by makemigration.

= run makemigration (which works OK) and migrate (which fails, giving
the output described above).

Desired output:
An error message from the migrate command, stating that a TypeError occurred
setting a value to this field, with either model name/field name, or a source
line number.

Thanks again for your advice.

[Bug 1876022] [NEW] Wireless adapter not detected (WiFi) Acer One S1003

2020-04-29 Thread Philémon Varret
Public bug reported:

This tablet was running Windows when I first bought it.

Known problem under windows : the wireless connection would fail after
device wake up from suspend. It could still see and detect networks tho

I was interested into having a Linux tablet so I installed Ubuntu
2020.04 on it. Since my bios wouldn't accept 64 efi boot files, I had to
use bootia32.efi. It failed many times on creating a boot partition
until I connected it to the internet using a wired connection. Please
note that while windows was still present on the disk, I could still use
the WLAN under live linux. It's only when I had it completely erased
Windows 10 that it stopped being detected by Ubuntu.

2020-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Normally I would ask you to explain what the exact problem is. But in
this case it seems you have the 'oibaf' PPA installed, which is not
supported and is known to be buggy.

Please remove the oibaf PPA from your system and then open new bugs for
any problems you still have.

Weirdly your kernel is using the nvidia-440 driver, but Xorg is using

[Bug 1875899] Re: cannot detect VGA but in first install and live session it can detect

2020-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The problem is that you have the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter, so the
graphics driver won't work.

Please:

1. Remove the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter from /etc/default/grub
2. sudo update-grub
3. sudo reboot

and if you have any further problems after that then open a new bug.

[Bug 1875992] Re: python syntax errors in utils.py, _candlestick.py, _ohlc.py, renderer.py

2020-04-29 Thread Chris Hermansen
Thanks to upstream for being all over this!

And please pardon my ignorance, but given that this appears to be
getting fixed in version 4.6, how will (or will) that make its way back
to Ubuntu 20.04?

[Bug 1875993] Re: yaru-theme-icon missing category icons

2020-04-29 Thread Michael Simms
Variety's indicator icon is themeable - if you you choose the "Light"
option for the icon, Variety will first check if the current GTK theme
has an icon named "variety-indicator" and will use it instead of the
bundled light icon.

Therefore, it could also be done if desired.

[Bug 1876018] [NEW] 40-vm-hotadd.rules attempts to set non-existent sysfs parameters

2020-04-29 Thread Jose Miguel Parrella
Public bug reported:

In focal, udev's 40-vm-hotadd.rules (from debian/extra/rules-ubuntu)
tries to write to invalid (as of 5.4.0-1010-azure) sysfs nodes resulting
in warnings such as:

Apr 29 22:36:46 focal01 systemd-udevd[266]: memory7:
/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/40-vm-hotadd.rules:9 Failed to write
ATTR{/sys/devices/system/memory/memory7/state}, ignoring: Invalid
argument

Perhaps 40-vm-hotadd.rules needs to be updated for 5.4 semantics,
removed, or something else. This behavior is present on systems upgraded
from 18.04 (via d-r-u) as well as new focal systems, upon first reboot
of the VM.

udev: 245.4-4ubuntu3

[Bug 1875892] Re: Display Interfaces Not Detected

2020-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The reason it works in the LiveCD is probably because you're using a
different driver there (the open source 'nouveau' driver). So a solution
here might just be to uninstall the nvidia-440 driver.

** Summary changed:

- Display Interfaces Not Detected
+ [nvidia][Lenovo P51] Mini-DP and HDMI ports are missing

[Bug 1875892] Re: Display Interfaces Not Detected

2020-04-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Your mini-DP and HDMI ports are probably connected to the Nvidia GPU so
this is something of a bug in the Nvidia driver, or a misconfiguration.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => nvidia-graphics-drivers-440
(Ubuntu)
