[Bug 1875020] Re: Update Ukrainian language pack to fix mate-keyboard-properties crash
Sorry for your time. Yes, you are right (e.g. no crashes in the keyboard KCM in KDE). Today, I with Maxim have created the version that works for him (now it's in the LP merging queue). I have wasted your time guys. Believe me, I won't do this for such a minor case but... Maxim is a visually impaired person and I wanted to alleviate his life as soon as possible. Sure, there is a problem with MATE code (some sort of word type index in the loops because it does not allow Unicode strings more than 256 chars) but they did not fix it for more than 6 months. So when Robert proposed the way to fix it on my side I decided to push the fix without proper testing. [Bug 1875020] Re: Update Ukrainian language pack to fix mate-keyboard-properties crash
So there is still something in xkeyboard-config.mo which triggers a MATE crash... I compared the PO file on github with the one at LP, and there are differences. Most importantly the file at github is based on a translation template for xkeyboard-config 2.28 while we have 2.29 in Ubuntu 20.04. The differences can be seen in the attached file. However, I don't see any translated strings which are significantly longer than respective original string and which are not present in the github PO file. What we are trying to do here is kind of insane. The root cause of the issue is reasonably something in the MATE code, and tweaking the translations is an attempt at a workaround. The issue should really be passed to the MATE developers for a proper fix. As regards Łukasz's request for a verification of the files in focal- proposed, I suppose we can conclude that there is no reason to move them to focal-updates since they don't solve the MATE crash issue. ** Patch added: "github-LP.diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-pack-uk/+bug/1875020/+attachment/5369161/+files/github-LP.diff ** Also affects: ubuntu-mate Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875020 Title: Update Ukrainian language pack to fix mate-keyboard-properties crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1875020/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1876562] Re: Upgrade to 20.04 LTS errors - mkinitramfs failure cpio
That error message does not mean an unbootable system, fortunately, in most cases. I just upgraded from Bionic Beaver (18.04 LTS) to Focal Fossa (20.04 LTS) today, and yes, it is a free space thing, specifically in /boot. The above link worked for me. The problem seems to be with systems that were originally installed with a smaller /boot partition, per some advice we were given for security reasons some years ago. Many of us still make a smaller /boot partition for this reason, especially on servers. It also is a good way to LUKS-encrypt / for security and still be able to boot the box (I think /boot still needs to be unencrypted). In my case, /boot was 256 MB in size. In the past, I would keep the current running kernel and the previous kernel and apt-purge (or through Synaptic, get rid of) the older ones. Before any subsequent kernel upgrade, I'd delete the oldest one, thus leaving one kernel (the running one), and thus there'd be no problem with space on /boot. The problem is that kernel binaries, and especially their initrds, have been getting bigger as the years have gone on, and now with the new 5.4.0 kernel, we've kinda hit critical mass. Therefore, whatever script or other program does space-checking to see if there's enough apparently has a "cushion" built into its check so that even if there's enough, it throws an error if space is kinda close. This can happen when you have two kernels on the system when /boot is 256MB or so. That condition happens at the end of the upgrade during initrd generation, because I now had both 4.15.0-99 and the new 5.4.0-29 kernel; I was now down to 84% on /boot, and the error popped up. Fortunately, since in the case of a 256MB partition and this upgrade, there *is* actually sufficient space, we get a bootable system. First, check to see that there's a 5.4.0-29 initrd first! If there is--and there should be--then go right ahead and reboot; you'll be fine. That's what I did. After rebooting and thus verifying that 5.4.0-29 and the rest of the system is A-OK (it is), then go ahead and apt-purge the 4.15.0-99 kernel. I'd also recommend getting rid of linux-headers, linux-modules, and linux-modules-extra (all for 4.15.0-99, of course). This way you not only free up space on /, you also make sure to get rid of the System-map file in /boot for 4.15.0-99. Hopefully this helps clear things up some more. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876562 Title: Upgrade to 20.04 LTS errors - mkinitramfs failure cpio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1876562/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1877759] [NEW] update-manager takes proxy settings from unreasonable places
Public bug reported: While trying to do a do-release-update today on Ubuntu 16.04 I hit an unusual snag ("No new releases found") which turned out to be caused by out of date proxy settings in Synaptic -- an apt package management GUI that was last relevant approximately 10 years ago in Ubuntu 9.04 . Test case: 1. Have invalid proxy settings from 10 years ago in "/root/.synaptic/synaptic.conf" 2. Run release update either through GUI or using "do-release-upgrade" in bash 3. Receive error "No new releases found" I have confirmed that once I deleted "/root/.synaptic/synaptic.conf", the distribution update shows up correctly. I understand the consideration of this file was added to the release- updater code trying to resolve a bug, but it is really unreasonable to expect someone to be able to figure out this is to blame for a rejected distribution update in 2020. [Bug 1877754] [NEW] GTKFileChooser: deselect highlighted directory
Public bug reported: Open a random file save form (gedit, LibreOffice doesn't matter). Sometimes the first entry in the file list gets highlighted automatically which may be a folder (especially when it is not the first time you save a file). So the user may click on another entry to change the selection, but clicking on the background *does not cause* a deselection to take place. In my opinion that would be an expected usage pattern as it is the case on common other platforms. Why is that important? Sometimes the user just needs to choose the current working directory and not a particular folder/file (he doesn't want to have the file stored in a subfolder). The only valid (and nasty) workaround is to go one hierarchy upwards and then double-click the directory folder. [Bug 1867375] Re: systemd-networkd: UseRoutes behavior change with introduction of UseGateway param
> Also is it planned to be included with simple updates or only in a future "Ubuntu 20.10" release? this is fixed in the systemd version currently in the upload queue for Focal, so once that is accepted and assuming there are no regressions while it is tested in the -proposed pocket, this bug should be fixed for Focal when it is released to focal-updates. That will probably be in around 2 weeks, maybe earlier, but it also could take longer. Once the fixed package is released, there will be a UseGateway option for networkd (in the [DHCPv4] section only - not in the deprecated/legacy [DHCP] section), but it also will default to the value of UseRoutes so you can just continue to set use-routes=false in netplan and it will work to disable both classless/static dhcp routes as well as the dhcp gateway route, just as it did in previous releases. Setting UseRoutes=false and UseGateway=true, which seems uncommon but sometimes needed, is not currently possible with netplan, and would need an update to the netplan schema to add a 'use-gateway' option, which is why this bug is marked as affecting netplan as well as systemd. [Bug 1867375] Re: systemd-networkd: UseRoutes behavior change with introduction of UseGateway param
Hi, this bug is affecting me as well on Focal (Ubuntu 20.04). I used the option use-routes=false in netplan to ignore the default gateway and now it doesn't work. As you have explained, now the right way is to use the UseGateway option of systemd. But there is no option in the current version of netplan. Netplan says "unknown key 'use-gateway'" Also, there is no option in the current version of systemd. Systemd says "Unknown key name 'UseGateway' in section 'DHCP', ignoring." Is there any workaround, because now I'm stuck and don't know how to accomplish this? Also is it planned to be included with simple updates or only in a future "Ubuntu 20.10" release? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867375 Title: systemd-networkd: UseRoutes behavior change with introduction of UseGateway param To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netplan.io/+bug/1867375/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1529152] Re: slow completion for systemd units
** Description changed: [impact] systemctl tab completion is annoyingly slow. [test case] on a bionic system: $ systemctl status systemd- any unit can be used, or even before specifying any unit name chars. That will hang for sometimes a few seconds. [regression potential] - TBD + this updates systemctl bash completion, so any regression would likely + result in systemctl command misbehaving; most likely, failure to tab- + complete. [scope] - TBD + This is needed for Bionic and Xenial, however I am not currently + planning to fix this for Xenial. + + This is fixed by upstream commit + f28255e2d5695b0d060558ff8cbb2b526fc94cc0 and a few other previous + commits, which are all included starting in v240, so this is fixed + already in Eoan and later. > https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/7d0b26a027118ca063780421cb31c74e9d2664ee this is fine to include, it's clearly correct (I checked both the upstream kernel as well as wireguard-linux-compat from the ppa, and the param is u16 in both places) I assume you can easily reproduce this, just by configuring a non-zero WireGuardPeer.PersistentKeepalive value? If so, can you update the SRU template [test case] section? That will need to be filled out before the patch can be sru'ed. > https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/624a47694cad4c87b2e807c32db656f3e9d679c5 I don't think this is needed, it only changes use of sd_netlink_message_append_data() to sd_netlink_message_append_sockaddr_in() - or _in6() - which aren't included in the bionic version of systemd, and from looking at their upstream addition they don't seem to functionally change anything, just add more checking (and simplify the call params). Unless you can point out what the patch specifically fixes, I think we can leave this patch out. ** Description changed: + [impact] + + systemd-networkd uses incorrect netlink attribute length for wireguard's + persistent keepalive interval, which logs error messages from the + kernel, and may incorrectly set the parameter. + + [test case] + + TBD + + [regression potential] + + this adjusts the length of the specific netlink parameter, so any + regression would likely relate to incorrectly setting the persistent + keepalive interval parameter, or failure to set the parameter. + + [scope] + + this is needed only for Bionic. + + this was fixed upstream in commit + 7d0b26a027118ca063780421cb31c74e9d2664ee which was first included in + v240, so this is fixed in Eoan and later. [Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop)
It seems to be the same problem here with ThinkPad X1 Carbon (2017 version with integrated Intel HD Graphics 620). Booting with external monitor attached to the HDMI port systematically makes the boot hangs atfer grub boot menu. To get out of this, I have to press the power button for a long time, and then I can boot again with the external cable unplugged. Once the graphical password prompt is shown, I can plug the external monitor again without ayn further problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872159 Title: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected (pure intel 8th gen laptop) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1872159/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1874661] Re: networkd sometimes doesn't set mtu received by dhcp
For testing with the latest upstream, can you try the systemd from this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~ddstreet/+archive/ubuntu/systemd-upstream You should only use that for testing, please - remove it and revert the packages back to the official versions once you've tested. Also, strictly as a workaround, you could try setting the mtu with a link file, like: [Match] Name=ens4 [Link] MTUBytes=1460 see 'man systemd.link' for more details, and of course that doesn't actually fix the problem, just tries to work around it by setting your link mtu before running dhcp, so your 'original' link mtu == dhcp mtu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874661 Title: networkd sometimes doesn't set mtu received by dhcp To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1874661/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1877737/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
