[Bug 1888108] Re: Fresh install 20.04

2020-07-18 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Why are you booting with the 'nomodeset' parameter? That will prevent
the correct video module from loading.

BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-40-generic ro quiet splash nomodeset
vt.handoff=7

[Bug 1888106] Re: calamares drive space map has grown (partition space shown twice, free & allocated)

2020-07-18 Thread Chris Guiver
this doesn't specifically relate to lubuntu. it's purpose is more
details for aide in filing upstream, or evaluation of that (keeping it
all in one place)

I wrote to thumb-drive manjaro-lxqt-20.0-minimal-200423-linux56.iso
booted & went thru start of replace-partition or install performed in this bug
report..

the graphic image appears very similar (two areas shown for free & new-
red-partition excluding different theme/colors), but no duplication of
the 27.6GB

`calamares --version` reports calamares 3.2.23-1

** Attachment added: "calamares window on manjaro or replace-partition
equivalent to what Lubuntu shows"

[Bug 1888106] [NEW] calamares drive space map has grown (partition space shown twice, free & allocated)

2020-07-18 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 20.04 groovy QA-test install
TESTCASE: REPLACE PARTITION

In this case the partition I'm replacing is sda3, on selecting it the
current drive.space.map at the bottom of the calamares screen switches
the partition to red (nice) in the CURRENT area. The partition being
replaced is 27.6GB (hereafter just 27GB)

** Problem (What occurs)

The other partitions are unaltered; but the AFTER map of drive.space.map
now shows a 27GB space as free space, plus a 27GB space that will be
utilized by new install. The picture implies I've gained 27GB of disk
space??

** Expected

There should be no unused area in the AFTER drive.space.map

This is a MINOR display issue. I've not yet rebooted to confirm it did what I
expect, but I'll return if results aren't as intended.

[Bug 1887610] Re: [SRU]There is no available audio entry in sound settings after execute suspend in 'Performance mode'

2020-07-18 Thread Jpodjarny
A pair of headphones was always plugged at the front.
Now I connected speakers in the connector line on the back, and it works
effectively.
The front headphones also work with the speakers connected behind. Apparently
it requires a connector put on the back.
Thank you very much for your contribution, it has solved my problem.
Greetings from Argentina.

[Bug 1872108] Re: Bass not on working Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen running focal

2020-07-18 Thread Randall Leeds
This makes a world of difference. It seems to make the Headphone volume
control the bottom speakers while the Speaker volume still controls the
top speaker.

Does anyone know enough about ALSA to know if there's a way the command
could be tweaked so that the Speaker volume controls both?

[Bug 1888101] [NEW] 'unsupported protocol' error when using PyMySQL

2020-07-18 Thread Leon
Public bug reported:

1)
Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04

2)
openssl:
  Installiert: 1.1.1f-1ubuntu2
  Installationskandidat: 1.1.1f-1ubuntu2
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 1.1.1f-1ubuntu2 500
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) + 4)
I am trying to connect to my MariaDB with python package "PyMySQL" and SSL
enabled. On my old installation (Kubuntu 19.10) this worked. With the new
installation (also new PC: Xubuntu 20.04) I get this error message:

ssl.SSLError: [SSL: UNSUPPORTED_PROTOCOL] unsupported protocol
(_ssl.c:1108)

Here are my installation details:
Old installation: python 3.7.5, pymysql 0.9.3, ssl.OPENSSL_VERSION = 1.1.1c 28
May 2019
New installation: python 3.8.2, pymysql 0.9.3, ssl.OPENSSL_VERSION = 1.1.1f 31
Mar 2020

When I use python with a different SSL version...:
this works: python 3.7.5, ssl.OPENSSL_VERSION = OpenSSL 1.1.0m-dev xx XXX
this works: python 3.7.5, ssl.OPENSSL_VERSION = OpenSSL 1.1.1h-dev xx XXX
this works: python 3.8.2, ssl.OPENSSL_VERSION = OpenSSL 1.1.1h-dev xx XXX

It seems, like the one specific version of openSSL (1.1.1f 31 Mar 2020) does
not work together with PyMySQL.

Some more details I have posted here:

[Bug 1887490] Re: Add/Backport EPYC-v3 and EPYC-Rome CPU model

2020-07-18 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Hello Markus,

Thanks for the report. I'm subscribing @ubuntu-virt here so @paelzer can
take a look at this. He is the current maintainer for qemu

$ git describe --tags a16e8dbc043720abcb37fc7dca313e720b4e0f0c
v4.2.0-2476-ga16e8dbc04

$ git describe --tags 143c30d4d346831a09e59e9af45afdca0331e819
v4.2.0-2477-g143c30d4d3

$ git tag --contains a16e8dbc043720abcb37fc7dca313e720b4e0f0c | sort -n
v5.0.0
v5.0.0-rc0

Looks like those were added in v5.0.0-rc0 and that we could add EPYC
extra CPU features and the EPYC 2nd gen CPU model to Focal indeed.

Marcus I'm afraid this will take around a week or more for feedback as
@paelzer is out and there are some current on-going fixes landing qemu
this week.

Thank you!

2020-07-18 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

Despite the following error:

2020-07-14T11:03:57.070457Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-011300] [Server] Plugin mysqlx
reported: 'Setup of socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock' failed, can't
create lock file /var/run/mysqld/mysqlx.sock.lock'

I was not able to find any other error. But, judging by it... looks like
you possibly have a local configuration issue. Would you be able to
provide a clean step-by-step reproducer for this error ?

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to
differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I
am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would:
provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you
believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your
system, and then change the bug status back to "New".

[Bug 1887610] Re: [SRU]There is no available audio entry in sound settings after execute suspend in 'Performance mode'

2020-07-18 Thread Hui Wang
I planned to let you run "dmesg > dmesg.txt", then upload it to
launchpad, but now no need to upload the dmesg.

Your issue has nothing to do with this SRU, this SRU will update the
pulseaudio to 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.5 while the version on your machine is
ubuntu3.2lp1869819.

And According to the log in the #15, there is no any problem:
The output is null or dummy because all output device are unavailable at that
moment:
Default Sink: auto_null
analog-output-lineout: Línea de salida (priority: 9000,
latency offset: 0 usec, not available)
Part of profile(s): output:analog-stereo,
output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo
analog-output-headphones: Auriculares analógicos (priority:
9900, latency offset: 0 usec, not available)
Properties:
device.icon_name = "audio-headphones"
Part of profile(s): output:analog-stereo,
output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

After you plugging in the headphone or lineout, the output device will
not be null or dummy.

For input device, it is usb input, there is no problem too.

So how do you expect the audio to work?

[Bug 1887513] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2

2020-07-18 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

I have reviewed your log files attached to this bug and it looks like
you have purged a bunch of packages, likely leaving a mysql-server
dependent package in a bad configuration state for some reason. Could
you please describe a way to reproduce the issue you are seeing,
possibly giving a step by step approach on how to reproduce the error ?

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to

[Bug 1887586] Re: pwmconfig generate wrong config when multiple fans are on same pwm

2020-07-18 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

The next step is to identify whether this bug is present in the upstream
project, introduced in Debian packaging, or introduced in Ubuntu's
modifications. If Ubuntu has not introduced the problem, we should get a bug
filed in the appropriate upstream bug tracker. Are you able to help with
this, please?

You can describe the issue at:

https://github.com/lm-sensors/lm-sensors/issues

as it seems that the issue could be present in upstream source code.

If you do end up filing a bug upstream, please link to it here. Thanks!

BTW lm-sensors is the "source package" that gives life to pwmconfig,
thus the reason why this was opened against the first one.

[Bug 1888098] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 gnome-shell places windows on second screen when started from primary screen

2020-07-18 Thread Damiön la Bagh
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

gnome-shell:
  Geïnstalleerd: 3.36.3-1ubuntu1~20.04.2

What I expected to happen:
When clicking a button on the primary screen to open a new window in any
application, that window should always open on the same monitor.

What happened instead:
Gnome-shell in Ubuntu 20.04 insists on placing new windows on the secondary
monitor.

Why this is a problem:
My setup are Point of Sale terminals and the primary (a touchscreen) and
secondary monitors are back to back. When the cashier presses the payment type
button, the payment type pop-up is opening on the secondary screen which is
displayed to the customer and not accessible to the cashier who needs to
complete the transaction. The cashier can't move the pop-up on their own as
there is no keyboard access (all buttons needed are in the application it
self), and the touchscreen touches on itself (most of the time).

In the past I was able to fix this with devilspie. As this problem has been
around since Ubuntu 10.04. Was fine in Unity and 16.04/18.04 gnome-shell.
But now devilspie is ignored by gnome-shell in 20.04 and gnome-shell keeps
opening all the windows on the secondary screen.

I've tried various gnome extensions and gnome-tweaks but none of them
will open all windows (except the customer display) on the primary
monitor only.

[Bug 1875148] Re: USB ports on Raspberry Pi are deactivated when connecting a Drobo unit

2020-07-18 Thread Keith Smith
I have managed to work around this bug by doing the following:

1) Using James Chambers unofficial 64-bit build
Moving to 64 bit gets things moving, but after a several minutes the host
controller would eventually hangup on me. I can't help but wonder if some
32bit ints are being blown somewhere because of the big reported sizes

2) Add the quirk 'usb-storage.quirks=[yourdrivesVID]:[yourdrivesPID]:u' to
cmdline.txt
This limits DMA scatter-gather operations (new in Pi4) and seemes to help, but
I've not been able to conclusively establish how

3) Connect the Drobo to the USB2 port rather than USB3
This (after the previous two steps) the finally kept the device mounted and
working - kinda...

4) On another computer (I used a Mac with extFS added) repartition the drive to
have a 16Tb partition (rather than the normal ~70Tb)
I found that if the OS tried to address data above some big value (never did
manage to tie it down), perhaps while partitioning(!), formatting or fsck-ing,
it would hang-up. In my case I happen to have 15Tb currently loaded in my
Drobo and so I tried a 16Tb partition, and that worked.

5) In cmdline.txt change 'fsck.mode=auto' to 'fsck.mode=force'
I have found that the drive is always perceived as dirty and potentially
corrupt (even though it isn't) on mount, so by forcing a fsck I ensure that the
drive will be usable on boot (although this does mean that a reboot will make
some functions unavailable for several hours.

6) Make sure that the mount options include 'nofail' and a good device-timeout,
I use 'x-systemd.device-timeout=15'
The nofail ensures boot can proceed even though the fsck will take hours to
complete (I have set the services that need the drive to wait for the mount),
and the timeout caters for a corner case.
If it helps, my mount options in fstab are:
'rw,suid,dev,exec,auto,nouser,async,relatime,nofail,x-systemd.device-timeout=15'

And there it is. A big Drobo workaround, stuck on USB2 speeds,
constrained to fraction of potential capacity, and that takes several
hours to become usable... but I've got a NAS that works.

Obviously, this is far from ideal. I would love this to get fixed. Hopefully
this has given some hints as to where to look, and helped others in the
meantime.

[Bug 1888088] Re: [Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14ARE05] Display won't rotate, nor do fractional scaling

2020-07-18 Thread John Gilmore
** Description changed:

Opening Settings -> Display and selecting an orientation other than Landscape
doesn't work.
Similarly, selecting Fractional Scaling and then picking a scale factor has
no effect.

This is a recently installed Ubuntu 20.04, fully updated, on a recently
released laptop/tablet that uses an AMD Ryzen 4500U integrated CPU/GPU.
It is possible that the GPU is not being detected by Ubuntu and that is
the root cause of the problem. I couldn't find an easy explanation
online about how to tell whether a GPU was detected or is in use. I did
try running "tlp-stat -g" to get graphics status, but it returns without
printing anything except its version number (1.3.1).

When I choose an orientation, such as Portrait Right, the setting
changes and an "Apply" button appears in the top of the Settings window.
When I press it, up pops up a dialog asking whether I want to "Keep
these display settings?" with two options, keep or revert. The rest of
the screen goes grey behind the dialog box, but I can already see that
the "Orientation" setting back in the Settings->Display window has been
reverted to "Landscape" without me doing anything. Whether I choose
keep or revert, or merely let it time out after 20 seconds, the result
remains the same -- the display stays in Landscape mode and the setting
that I had made is reverted.

Regarding scaling, I can set the display scale to 100% (default) or
200%, successfully. When I turn on the "Fractional Scaling" slider, the
graphics around the edge of the screen increase in size (the icons in
the left-hand dock, the text in the top bar), but the Scale settings do
not change (they remain "100%" and "200%"). However, if I switch to a
different setting (for example, "Mouse & Touchpad") and then back to
"Displays", the Scale settings have changed. I have included three
screenshots (original screen, Fractional Scaling on, and after switching
  to and from Displays.

When I attempt to set a fractional scale such as 125%, the "Apply"
button appears in the upper right corner. When I press that, the
display does not scale, a pop-up asks if I want to keep or revert the
setting, but looking back at the Displays settings, the Scale has
already reverted to 100% (as above with the Orientation).

- The display has been rock-solid before this, but now it started showing
artifacts, such as
+ The display has been rock-solid before this, but now it started showing
artifacts, such as
previous copies of the Displays window. I've enclosed a screen shot. Merely
taking a screen shot also wiped out parts of the display to white; I took
another shot to show that.

2020-07-18 Thread Alexey Kulik
This option does exist in Ubuntu Dock. It's just disabled by default. It can be
activated using Dconf Editor. Set the parameter
'org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock' to be equal to 'cycle-windows'.
It can also be easily done by running this command:

gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock scroll-action
'cycle-windows'

For me, this issue has now been resolved; I assume due to the pulseaudio
package updates that I installed yesterday, but it might have been fixed
for a few days longer.

[Bug 1888091] [NEW] Deform switch in the Livepatch tab

2020-07-18 Thread MadsRH
Public bug reported:

When the user isn't signed in, the switch looks deform / squeezed. See
the attached screenshot.

Maybe the blue spinner is somehow calculated into the padding and when
the spinner is gone (after "Checking availability"), the padding does
not match and the switch gets squeezed.

This is only a visual bug, non critical, but should be low hanging
fruit.

[Bug 1888088] [NEW] [Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14ARE05] Display won't rotate, nor do fractional scaling

2020-07-18 Thread John Gilmore
Public bug reported:

Opening Settings -> Display and selecting an orientation other than Landscape
doesn't work.
Similarly, selecting Fractional Scaling and then picking a scale factor has no
effect.

The display has been rock-solid before this, but now it started showing
artifacts, such as
previous copies of the Displays window. I've enclosed a screen shot. Merely
taking a screen shot also wiped out parts of the display to white; I took
another shot to show that.

[Bug 1888084] [NEW] No correct gThumb Icon in Dash (only Ubuntu Netherlands)

2020-07-18 Thread wowo
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04
Localization: Netherlands = nl
gthumb:
  Installed: 3:3.8.0-2.1build1
  Candidate: 3:3.8.0-2.1build1
  Versiontable:
 *** 3:3.8.0-2.1build1 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

gThumb installed from Synaptic shows the wrong "general application
icon" (grey gearwheel) in the dash.

The content of line 223 from org.nome.gThumb.desktop in /usr/share/applications:
Icon [nl]=gThumbhttps://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/frogr

This is causing the fault Icon in the dash for the gThumb application.

Solution:
Line 223 should be:
Icon [nl]=gthumb

After this correction, the dash shows the right Icon for the gThumb
application.

[Bug 1662357] Re: Can't use lsb_release on Ubuntu Core 16

2020-07-18 Thread Oliver Grawert
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1619420 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1619420

first of all the bug is a duplicate, secondly you can not install deb
packages on Ubuntu Core, snap packages (of which Ubuntu Core is built)
do use /etc/os-release. Additionally Ubuntu Core only ships the most
minimal set of python ...

If you see an issue on a Classic Ubuntu installation newer than Ubuntu
Core 16, you should open a new bug.

[Bug 1888068] Re: kernel tried to execute NX-protected page - exploit attempt

2020-07-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1888068/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

2020-07-18 Thread Alan AZZERA
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1619420 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1619420

Hi, why this bug is invalid ? I just ran into it after upgrading from Ubuntu
18.04 to 20.04. After finding and applying with success the fix of @shiina, I
downloaded the package lsb-release_11.0.1ubuntu1_all.deb, wich still contains
the line RELEASES_ORDER.sort(key=lambda n: float(n[0])) in the file
/usr/share/pyshared/lsb_release.py. So, it seems there's only 2 possibilities :
- the bug is still here and nobody relies anymore on lsb_release ;
- there is another problem somewhere in my system.

[Bug 1887407] Re: Distribution upgrade uninstalled TortoiseHG without asking me

2020-07-18 Thread teo1978
> the upgrade gives you a chance to see the details you want. You were
prompted with these screens, including the obsolete software screen,
correct?

Correct. As I said, not good enough.

> Please be more specific about the exact changes you would like to see.

Again as I said: for every individual application that you are going to
remove that I installed manually (as opposed to it being installed as a
dependency), you have to show an individual popup screen with a very
scary warning.

THEN, if you want, there you can add a checkbox like "apply to all" or
whatever, where I can choose to accept in bulk after reviewing a list.

OR simply change the "remove obsolete packages" prompt to make it more scary,
so I get the impression that I seriously need to review the list.

However, if the number is actually in the order of 86, you need to make
it smaller to begin with, one way or another. Otherwise, even if I start
to look at the list seriously, chances are I'll end up missing something
or saying "well, whatever".
