[Bug 1869796] Re: vague error during upgrade

2020-08-06 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The new code now handles sockets and services differently from libvirt
packaging.
There might also have been changes to the various debhelpers, but the TL;DR is
that I no more see this issue with libvirt 6.6.

I'll mark the bug as closed with that, but please report back if you
happen to find a combination that triggers it again.

Fix DriverFilter to accept None volume type

Change Icfc6ba5f47c3a61b49cbec5110ef7df05eb47195 fixes CapacityFilter
only. We need to do it for DriverFilter too.

We need this patch only for releases before Train when we can create a
volume without volume type.

Due to that hint with SciLinux I have fetched

I can see follow on issues referring to it
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1161073 thou.

# use default_ccache_name from /etc/krb5.conf (#991186)
Patch902: openssh-6.3p1-krb5-use-default_ccache_name.patch

The patch is not/no-more in

But in
https://git.centos.org/rpms/openssh/blob/c7/f/SOURCES/openssh-6.3p1-krb5-use-default_ccache_name.patch

That is suspicious, there must be a reason it is gone right?
Maybe it was hard to maintain or somewhat bad and they only could drop it on
the major version change.

In the v8 spec I find:

# Improve ccache handling in openssh (#991186, #1199363, #1566494)
# https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2775
Patch804: openssh-7.7p1-gssapi-new-unique.patch
# Respect k5login_directory option in krk5.conf (#1328243)
Patch805: openssh-7.2p2-k5login_directory.patch

FYI navigate from here
https://git.centos.org/rpms/openssh/blob/c8/f/SPECS/openssh.spec

I'm not sure on this, but maybe carrying more of the RH sauce back to upstream
might help.
Definitely activity on the new or old upstream bug will be needed.

Keep us in the loop here what happens.

[Bug 1890772] Re: Some external 4K monitor is not working properly

2020-08-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I forgot a display signal doesn't include any alpha channel, so yeah 8
bpc will require less bandwidth than 10 bpc.

The maximum capability of the monitor should be advertised in its EDID.
At least modern monitors do. You can check it using the 'edid-decode'
command and grepping for 'bits per primary'. What gets returned?

Can you share the EDID of the troublesome display?

Hi Ronaldo,
it seems you have installed but later disabled the mysql server.

Later upgrades then fail as they need to connect to the server on
upgrade to check/do meta upgrades.

You can see this in your log:
Failed to stop mysql.service: Unit mysql.service not loaded.

If you have it disabled, then you can as well uninstall it and be good.
If you want it active and ugradable you have to adapt your configuration so
that it runs - then the updates should work again.

2020-08-06 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with
the formerly working configuration.
But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays
unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state.

Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but
since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart.
Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete.

Depending on your particular case there are two solutions:
- either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it.
- Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting
the service will work.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1890772] Re: Some external 4K monitor is not working properly

2020-08-06 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
reply #20

yes, Daniel.
Originally, the display would like to use 10 bpc. but it is failed with some
dongle.
However, we found that, it uses 8bit color depth on Windows. We wonder if
Windows has done some magic for enhancing compatibilty. Maybe we can also
discuss if we can have some implementation like export the bpc selection to
gnome-control-center for user.

Otherwise, user can just found that it works on Windows but failed on
Ubuntu.

2020-08-06 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Hans Joachim,
I couldn't agree more - well prepared bug and details are correct.
I double checked and the old Ubuntu Delta is indeed in Debian now (plus a dep3
tag in debian/patches/increase-test-timeout).

While there are a bunch of rev-deps:
Reverse-Depends
* convlit [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
* dropbear-bin [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
* firebird3.0-server
* libfbclient2
* libtomcrypt1 [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
* libtommath-dev
* moarvm [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]

This is not change that requires a rebuild of them.

Sync issued:

Source libtommath -> groovy/Proposed: current version 1.2.0-4ubuntu1, new
version 1.2.0-5
New changes:
libtommath (1.2.0-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * make autopkgtests cross-test-friendly.

Note also that if you did have a machine that required:

  xrandr --output DP-3 --set "max bpc" 8

on a 4K 60Hz display then that may indicate a bandwidth problem. Maybe a
limitation of the cable. Does a max bpc of 10 also work? What values
don't work?

[Bug 1890772] Re: Some external 4K monitor is not working properly

2020-08-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt

Please attach 'xrandr --verbose' info with a monitor connected showing
the problem, or please open a new bug from the affected machine.

[Bug 1837810] Re: qemu instance gets paused with error: kvm run failed Bad address

2020-08-06 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hello @pooja-9, @kphatak-pf9 and @vlee,

You wouldn't happen to have Kernel Samepage Merging (KSM) enabled on
your compute nodes would you?

You can check by looking at the value of:

$ cat /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run

If it is 1, your nodes have it enabled, and if it is 0 or "missing", you
don't have it on.

We have just hit the problem, and I think I have found a fix for it. I
will fix the 4.15 kernel once I have analysed the problem a bit more.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-06 Thread Matthew D. Mower
@marco-carrarini In post #77, you suggested a workaround by modifying
xorg.conf. Then in post #81, @vanvugt suggested the same outcome could
be achieved with `xrandr --fb` or `xrandr --scale-from`. Finally, you
responded in #82 with "Yes, but expect some glitches in apps."

I'm not clear if your response to "expect some glitches" was only for
@vanvugt's xrandr suggestion, or if the two workarounds are equivalent
and to "expect some glitches" with either method. Any clarification
would be appreciated. Thanks!

[Bug 1890230] Re: arm64 ipxe package isn't an arm64 build

2020-08-06 Thread xinliang
@rafaeldtinoco

Thanks for quickly responding to the bug.
Our use case is booting real bare metal aarch64 servers from remote iSCSI
volume[1]. Which uses iPXE's iSCSI boot functionality. The booting iPXE script
looks as bellow:
-
:boot_iscsi
imgfree
set username xx
set password xx
set initiator-iqn iqn.2017-05.org.openstack.node-0
sanhook --drive 0x80
iscsi:10.30.96.1::3260:1:iqn.2010-10.org.openstack:volume-4e572bca-7845-44e9-b6b5-e7e27d18d1cc
 || goto fail_iscsi_retry

-

For the booting process, it will first use UEFI PXE to boot into
ipxe.efi, then running the above booting script to boot from remote
iSCSI volume.

For the PXE environment setup, we use xinetd + tftpd-hpa reference the
pxe setup guide[2].

For test convenient, we also use qemu(with or without kvm) + pce virtio nic
, the setup script is here[3].

Yesterday I have to abandon the use of this Ubuntu 20.04, because the

Today, I trim the max size of journal files (100 MB), change resolution

Finally, I use Ubuntu in a diary basis; in this device I have versions

but that's been marked as a duplicate of:

[Bug 1890436] Re: VGA signal is ghosted and stretched (Intel® HD Graphics 2500)

2020-08-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes I do understand why you might call that corruption.

Actually you didn't need to enable DRM debugging. It looks like there
are a few errors coming from the Intel kernel graphics driver 'i915'.
Those might be separate to the FIFO underrun errors, which other people
also report in bug 1550779.

The problems reported in your kernel log seem to relate to atomic mode
setting, which is what the 'modeset' Xorg driver uses. Wayland sessions
don't use that interface to Intel graphics so it's likely that logging
into 'Ubuntu on Wayland' will avoid some (or all) of the problem.

[Bug 1889477] Re: xdg-open on Kubuntu 20.04 reports 'Could not connect to localhost: Connection refused' if localhost service not already up

2020-08-06 Thread Number7
Hi Alex,

My scripts run xdg-open http://localhost:something before starting the
service as a time saver to setup my workspace.

Did you already have the service running when you started it up?

It works fine when the service is already up, but it throws this new
error when it is not. In the past it would just open a new tab in the
browser and move on. In Kubuntu 20.04 I have to click the button in the
dialog for it to exit.

Since it does not happen in Manjaro with either KDE 18 or 19.2 in my
experience I assuming it is a Kubuntu/Ubuntu issue.

[Bug 1888926] Re: tls.tlscfgcmd not recognized; rebuild rsyslog against librelp 1.5.0

2020-08-06 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Verification/comparison steps to ensure that the modified
rsyslog package is built and working correctly, given its
importance in the distribution:

1) Compare test suite results in build logs
2) Compare configuration options in build logs
3) Compare packages' control file and contents

All look good.  Details:

1) Compare test suite results in build logs
---

The build-time test suite runs 550ish tests,
which gives us confidence it does look good.

There are 20 test files which name includes 'relp',
and 2 test files include the option name 'tlscfgcmd'.

$ grep -rl tlscfgcmd rsyslog-8.2001.0/tests/
rsyslog-8.2001.0/tests/sndrcv_relp_tls-cfgcmd.sh
rsyslog-8.2001.0/tests/imrelp-tls-cfgcmd.sh

These 2 are not mentioned in the previous build log,
but are mentioned and PASS in the test package's build log,
so the option is enabled and good as in tests.

Before:

# TOTAL: 551
# PASS:  544
# SKIP:  7
# XFAIL: 0
# FAIL:  0
# XPASS: 0
# ERROR: 0

After:

+PASS: imrelp-tls-cfgcmd.sh
+PASS: sndrcv_relp_tls-cfgcmd.sh

# TOTAL: 553
# PASS:  546
# SKIP:  7
# XFAIL: 0
# FAIL:  0
# XPASS: 0
# ERROR: 0

2) Compare configuration options in build logs
--

Download the old (focal-release) and new (ppa) build logs:

$ curl -s https://launchpadlibrarian.net/464664394
/buildlog_ubuntu-focal-amd64.rsyslog_8.2001.0-1ubuntu1_BUILDING.txt.gz |
gzip -dc > buildlog.old

$ curl -s buildlog_modified

amd64.rsyslog_8.2001.0-1ubuntu1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz | gzip -dc >
buildlog.new

Filter the section for configure:

dh_auto_configure -- \
<...>
config.status: executing libtool commands

$ sed -n '/^dh_auto_configure --/,/^config.status: executing
libtool commands/p' buildlog.old > buildlog.old.configure

$ sed -n '/^dh_auto_configure --/,/^config.status: executing
libtool commands/p' buildlog.new > buildlog.new.configure

The only difference is the new/reported option 'relpSrvSetTlsConfigCmd'

3) Compare packages' control file and contents
--

Get the old and new packages' control/contents:

mkdir debs-old && cd debs-old
pull-lp-debs rsyslog focal
cd ..

mkdir debs-new && cd debs-new
pull-ppa-debs --ppa mfo/lp1888926 rsyslog focal
cd ..

for dir in debs-old debs-new; do
pushd $dir
for deb in *.deb; do
  pkg=${deb%%_*}
  dpkg-deb -e $deb deb_control_$pkg
  dpkg-deb -c $deb \
| awk '{ $3 = "SIZE"; $4 = "DATE"; $5 = "TIME"; print $0 }'
`#normalize` \
| sort \
> deb_content_$pkg
done
popd
done

Compare the control files:

for dir in debs-old/deb_control_*; do
  dir="$(basename $dir)"
  echo "DIR: $dir"
  diff -U0 debs-old/$dir/control debs-new/$dir/control
  echo
done

The only differences are:
1) the Version: bump,
2) the versioned dependency bump on rsyslog,
3) and rsyslog-relp also has versioned dependency bump on librelp0, as expected.

[Bug 1890725] Re: wacom tablet disturbs unity background, color scheme and keyboard shortcuts

2020-08-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1890725/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1888926] Re: tls.tlscfgcmd not recognized; rebuild rsyslog against librelp 1.5.0

2020-08-06 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Jorge,

Thanks for tracking this down in the build history.

> I suspect that the rsyslog package was built against and older librelp
version.

You're right, the build log shows 'librelp-dev_1.4.0-2'
in the package installs/'Build environment' section.

I slightly modified the changelog entry, and examined the
old/new packages (i.e., pre/post rebuild) for differences,
to ensure the changes are what we expect and nothing else.

It all looks good. Details in the next comment.

However this cannot be uploaded immediately because there
is currently another rsyslog upload in focal; fortunately
it's from Eric/@slashd and not yet approved, so we likely
merge both. I'll email him/you.

cheers,
Mauricio

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/1890302
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/a/apache2/groovy/armhf

We have not been able to reproduce the issue on local hardware, only in
CI. We had attempted to add debug info to help isolate the cause, but
with it added the test case always passed.

It looks like Apache2 upstream also noticed this failure in the Apache2 CI:

http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/httpd-dev/202001.mbox/%3c20200109141229.ga15...@redhat.com%3E

https://travis-ci.org/github/apache/httpd/jobs/633442262

This thread speculates it's a timing issue reading the error log too
quickly, and suggests adding a usleep() might work around the problem.
I've applied this change to Ubuntu to see if it passes our CI.
