[Bug 1892457] Re: intel graphics installer error

2020-08-20 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug. You seem to need support more than have
issues with a bug asking "How can i fix this problem?"

I believe a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu (this bug report can be converted
to a question (which is aimed at support)). You can also find help with
your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I'm going to mark this bug incomplete, as it appears as if you haven't
followed the normal support procedures first. If however you believe I'm
in error, please leave a comment with details and change the status back
to "New".

[Bug 1892266] Re: open-vm-tools 11.1.5 has been released

I'll - as usually - also do a backport to the latest LTS, but do so
after the 20.10 feature freeze is over and also 11.1.5 had a while to
trigger bugs in groovy (if any) before we throw it to focal.

[Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration

2020-08-20 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you Rbalint.

Thanks to xnox I already found 1891716 and 1886886 which are sort of
remotely related (to the next upload), I guess this bug will serve for
the "marking systemd-fsckd test as flaky" task then.

Can we do something about this bad fstab in LXD or is there a bug to
track?

Essentially I'd like to know when it overall is worth again to hit retry
on my tests :-)

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location

2020-08-20 Thread GizmoChicken
I was an early and vocal critic of the "$HOME/snap" directory who:

(a) complained about this issue in numerous comments, including comment #14
(posted 2017-04-16), comment #15 (posted 2017-05-20), comment #19 (posted
2017-07-12), and comment #32 (posted 2017-10-22);

(b) reverted the status of this issue back to "Confirmed" (after another moved
it to “Opinion”) on 2018-02-25; and

(c) edited the summary to succinctly read "Please move the "$HOME/snap"
directory to a less obtrusive location" on 2018-02-25.

As an early and vocal critic of the "$HOME/snap" directory, I humbly and
respectfully ask the following favor of those who continue to post here
complaining about this bug:

STOP IT!

The devs have heard us, they are diligently working to solve this issue,
and they will provide a solution as soon as practicable.

Thank you for your understanding. :)

[Bug 1812456] Re: [MIR] libflatpak0

2020-08-20 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

Many applications have Flatpak integration using libflatpak. The Ubuntu
desktop team would like libflatpak0 in main so we can easily build such
applications. It takes a lot of work to make these dependencies optional
and sometimes that is not possible. We don't need the Flatpak
functionality to work by default and do not expect any other Flatpak
packages to be installed by default.

Default packages that have flatpak integration:
  - gnome-control-center (application panel).
  - malcontent (parental controls)

+ Many applications have Flatpak integration using libflatpak. The Ubuntu

[Bug 1892448] [NEW] ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 collides with ceph-deploy 2.0.1-0ubuntu1

2020-08-20 Thread Pascal Ernster
Public bug reported:

On an Ubuntu 20.04 installation with the focal-proposed repos enabled
and both the ceph/ceph-base/ceph-* packages (which are in main) and the
ceph-deploy package (which is in universe) installed, the upgrade from
ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 to ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 breaks with
the following error message:

dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/ceph-base_15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/man/man8/ceph-deploy.8.gz', which is also in
package ceph-deploy 2.0.1-0ubuntu1

I wasn't even able to solve this by trying to uninstall/purge ceph-
deploy using apt-get or aptitude - instead, I had to resort to

dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq ceph-deploy

I think this is a bug in ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2, more specifically
in the packaging of ceph-base 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2, which probably
shouldn't contain the man page for ceph-deploy since it doesn't seem to
contain any other ceph-deploy files either.

[Bug 1892447] [NEW] Why ignore new name server if 3 name servers exists

2020-08-20 Thread Pengpeng Sun
Public bug reported:

Hi team,

This might be a question which has been asked by someone else, but I did
NOT find related bugs by searching.

See https://github.com/canonical/cloud-
init/blob/master/cloudinit/distros/parsers/resolv_conf.py#L83, new name
server(s) will be ignored if 3 name servers already exists, I know the
max number is 3 for name servers. But why not replace the existing name
servers by new ones?

Thanks,
Pengpeng

[Bug 1892163] Re: Major networking regression linux-image-5.4.0-42-generic

2020-08-20 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Hi, on 5.0 or newer kernel, you should not be using backport-iwlwifi-
dkms as all the drivers are already in position. And since latest
version of backport-iwlwifi-dkms in Bionic should be 7906, you should
remove that manually install copy.

[Bug 1892427] Re: HDMI connected monitor wakeup problems

2020-08-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This sounds like two separate issues:

1. Needing to wake the TV with the remote. I would hazard a guess that's
a feature/bug of the TV firmware. TVs generally don't expect to be used
as monitors and may not implement power mode switching reliably like a
proper monitor. Most likely it's designed to respond to the remote only.
I don't think this is a software bug in Ubuntu, but probably in the TV
itself...

2. Windows get moved and resized. This should only happen if the monitor
(TV) is seen to be unplugged. But indeed sometimes power saving modes do
get confused for the monitor being unplugged. I wonder though if this is
also a problem with the TV failing to sleep correctly and instead
disconnecting from the computer... Can you test a (non-TV) monitor on
the same HDMI port?

A workaround is set the "Fractional Scaling" to other value and back it
to 100%, to fix the font sizes. But after a reboot, all fonts still
smaller again.

[Bug 1892163] Re: Major networking regression linux-image-5.4.0-42-generic

And I just have a lenovo laptop which has the same wifi card as yours
(8086:2723), I boot the 5.4.0-42 kernel and use the in-tree iwlwifi
driver + iwlwifi-cc-a0-48.ucode firmware, the network works normally.

So I suggest you temporarily uninstall the iwlwifi dkms and do a test.

[Bug 1892163] Re: Major networking regression linux-image-5.4.0-42-generic

2020-08-20 Thread Hui Wang
You could compare the dmesg of 5.3 kernel and 5.4 kernel, for those
lines which contains the iwlwifi.

In your 5.4 kernel dmesg:
[2.757791] compat: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel.
[2.757807] compat: module verification failed: signature and/or required
key missing - tainting kernel
[2.757934] Loading modules backported from iwlwifi
[2.757934] iwlwifi-stack-public:master:8324:9176b151

Looks like your 5.4 kernel load an out-of-tree wifi driver. And please
also compare the "loading firmware part" of iwlwifi.

Loading and reloading policies happens all the time and can probably be
filtered out in a log summarizing tool. (They might still be bad if an
attacker has replaced policies with ones that are wide-open.)

A quick skim through the kernel sources shows a lot of other possible
info= strings, too many to itemize them all, and also it'd take a while to
figure out which ones could happen with profile=unconfined.

If you want to filter out operation="profile_load" profile="unconfined"
and operation="profile_replace" profile="unconfined" lines, that'd
probably be a good start.

Thanks

[Bug 1891785] Re: choose-w misaligned (regression)

2020-08-20 Thread gregrwm
agreed, an upstream issue, and agree, those threads are the same issue.

however your comment seems to advocate the idea that launchpad isn't a
venue for bugs in software distributed by ubuntu. while i understand
that idea, i think the majority opinion, even the design intention, is
that launchpad is a venue of choice even for bugs that originate
upstream, and it's very common for launchpad bugs to refer to other bug
database entries, especially upstream ones.

imo the threads you mention justify this bug being marked 'confirmed'.

[Bug 1823200] Re: Improper handling of ScaleIO backend credentials

ScaleIO: Connection info backward compatibility

When we fixed bug 1823200 in Change-ID
Iab54c515fe7be252df52b1a0503a251779805759 we made the ScaleIO connector
incompatible with the old connection properties dictionary as it only
supported the new 'config_group' and 'failed_over' parameters to get the
password.

This is a problem in any system that is upgraded and has attachments to
the array, because the connection properties of those volumes will not
contain the new fields and detaching them will result in error
"KeyError: 'config_group'".

This patch adds compatibility code to support the old connection
properties format so we can detach those volumes.

Thanks for the additional information. I've seen the snap profile_*
messages in my logwatch output as unmatched, but want to understand them
more before filtering them.

As to the general unconfined entries, how can we best distinguish

2020-08-20 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
The focal autopkgtest failures are in cyrus-imapd:

Mail::JMAPTalk version 0.15 required--this is only version 0.13 at
./Cassandane/Cyrus/JMAPCore.pm line 47.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at ./Cassandane/Cyrus/JMAPCore.pm line 47.

This seems very unlikely to be due to pam, and it happens with the
version of pam anyway. The other failure is kopanocore/armhf which is
known flaky:
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/k/kopanocore/focal/armhf (I've
retried it anyway).

  Author: Carl Love
  Date: Tue Jun 9 10:42:03 2020 -0500

- Power PC Fix extraction of the L field for sync instruction
-
- The L field is currently a two bit[22:21] field in ISA 3.0. The size of
the
- L field has changed over time.
-
- Currently the ISA 3.0 Valgrind sync instruction support code sets the
- flag_L for the instruction L field to a five bit value that includes bits
- that are marked reserved the sync instruction. This patch fixes the
issue for ISA 3.0
- to only setting flag_L the specified two bits.

[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)

2020-08-20 Thread mlx
@Matt I didn't find any special way to easily select between kernels on
raspberry - installing the linux-{headers,image}--raspi2 would
overwrite whatever was on the FAT partition, making it the kernel loaded
on next boot. To revert to previous kernel, its package would need to be
reinstalled (apt install --reinstall ).

I did run into a problem where a tested kernel wouldn't boot, so I'd
recommend making a backup of the FAT partition in advance so you can
recover it outside of the Raspberry's OS session.

[Bug 1578001] Re: unmatched entries for isc-dhcp-server

2020-08-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
The "Config file:", etc. lines are filtered by this in the dhcpd service
script:

  ($line =~ /^[^ ]* file: /)

That was added by commit 42c445dd dated 2018-10-02

The reuse_lease messages are still uncaught, so will need a filter
added.

[Bug 1892430] [NEW] Black screen after suspending with laptop lid due to compilation with UPower GLib

2020-08-20 Thread Elliot
Public bug reported:

When resuming from suspending a laptop with the lid in Xfce, the screen
stays dark after logging in with light-locker or during the login with
xfce4-screensaver. The only way to get back to a desktop is to use a tty
to restart the display manager.

After some more testing, I found that this is a problem with the way
UPower is incorporated into the program. This can be fixed by adding the
option "--disable-upower-glib" to the ./configure script. This fixes
issue in Arch/Manjaro, where this option is implemented in the PKGBUILD.
I've reported this upstream, but with the state XFCE is in as a project
I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon.

Report: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/-/issues/222
Old report on wrong component:
https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-power-manager/-/issues/75

[Bug 1890835] Re: secureboot-db 2020 update

2020-08-20 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov

+ flood of support requests if any arise.

+  * In case of multi-boot systems, please plan to boot into every
operating system on your multi-boot systems and install updates as soon
as your other operating system distributions publish updates for
  BootHole vulnerability.

   * Install package on Secureboot UEFI enabled system
   * Reboot
   * Observe that it still reboots

  [Regression Potential]

   * Installing this package even once will update DBX variable in the
UEFI firmware and will prevent booting:

   - All Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL, Fedora, OpenSUSE, SUSE, Oracle Linux milestones
/ media released before August 2020
   - Certain version of Kaspersky Labs UEFI protect software
   - Certain version of HPE Inc ProLiant automatic OS provisioning

As they are all vulnerable to the BootHole vunlerability.

For example, one will have to use 16.04.7 LTS, 18.04.5 LTS, 20.04.1 LTS
installer media if they want to reinstall.

If any dual boot configurations are failing to boot, one must navigated
to UEFI BIOS settings and either reset DBX variables to stock values, or
disable secureboot. Upgrade any systems that are now prohibited to boot.
And then re-enable secureboot & reinstall secureboot-db package to
  reapply dbx updates.

Please note simple downgrade of secureboot-db package will not achieve
anything, as downgrading the package does not revert the firmware
  changes.
