[Bug 1893775] Re: [UBUNTU 20.04.1] Failure to install Ubuntu 20.04.1 as KVM guest on DASD

2020-09-02 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I think if you use an already formatted dasd in the KVM this should
work. If you use a completely blank one, I don't know that there's a way
for the guest to tell that it's backed by a dasd vs some other block
device?

[Bug 1816045] Re: secureboot-db: release upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 modifies changelog.gz but resets mtime

2020-09-02 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
so the mtime is set to the one mentioned inside the changelog, "Fri, 19
Oct 2018 11:20:34 -0700" and that's what's included in the package, and
by Debian Policy, one should maintain the timestamps as much as
possible.

at the moment we do not provide any guarantees that files in later
series, have higher/same/lower mtime than in previous releases. For
example, a package in xenial may have an SRU to fix a bug, which doesn't
affect and/or has always been fixed in bionic, thus upgrade from xenial
to bionic may see files go back in time w.r.t. mtime.

A backup system that exclusively relies on mtime, or mtime increasing
linearly, will be broken across release-upgrades. After a release-
upgrade a contents/checksum check should be executed to detect changes.

Which backup system are you using?

[Bug 1891657] Re: systemd 100% cpu usage apport-autoreport.service: Failed with result 'start-limit-hit'

2020-09-02 Thread Brian Murray
Could somebody actively suffering from this problem include the output
of 'sudo service whoopsie status'? Thanks in advance.

It's also worth noting that the apport-autoreport.service is provided by
the apport-noui package and removing that package would be a better way
to work around this problem then removing all of apport.

[Bug 1894006] [NEW] firefox crashes with MOZ_WAYLAND_ENABLE=1

2020-09-02 Thread Paul Collins
Public bug reported:

Recently I decided to try running firefox 80 directly via Wayland,
instead of via X11. It crashed. (I haven't tried any previous
versions.)

I found the following in /var/log/audit/audit.log:

type=AVC msg=audit(1599023168.948:3997869): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mknod" profile="firefox"
name="/dev/shm/wayland.mozilla.ipc.0" pid=1042373 comm="Compositor"
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

I added the following to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox:

  /dev/shm/wayland.mozilla.* rw,

reloaded the profile:

sudo apparmor_parser -r < /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

and now it works.

** Description changed:

  Recently I decided to try running firefox 80 directly via Wayland,
  instead of via X11. It crashed. (I haven't tried any previous
  versions.)

  I found the following in /var/log/audit/audit.log:

  type=AVC msg=audit(1599023168.948:3997869): apparmor="DENIED"
  operation="mknod" profile="firefox"
  name="/dev/shm/wayland.mozilla.ipc.0" pid=1042373 comm="Compositor"
  requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

  I added the following to /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox:

/dev/shm/wayland.mozilla.* rw,

  reloaded the profile:

  sudo apparmor_parser -r < /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

  and now it works.

Unfortunately the same bug also in 5.4.!

The last working kernel is 5.0. Since the update to 5.3.0-26 ubuntu is dead on
my computer.
Who did the mistake? It is very frustrating if a whole operating system can't
be used any more, especially when u are used to ubuntu/linux since years.

[Bug 1854982] Re: Lost compatibilty for backup between Ubuntu 19.10 and FreeBSD 12.0

2020-09-02 Thread BertN45
Basically I backup every weekend again from my 64-bits Ubuntu to my
32-bits FreeBSD. I solved the issue by setting the property
dnodesize=legacy for the datasets I wanted to backup. I also reloaded
those datasets once to get the storage with the right dnodesize
everywhere.

The problem has been incompatibility of chosen dnode related settings of
the datapool and dataset between Ubuntu and FreeBSD. With Openzfs rel
2.0, it might be easier, esp0ecially if both system can agree on using
the same defaults.

curl is optional (LP: #1888572):

- d/rules: install d/preinst

[Bug 1893994] [NEW] Sync supertuxkart 1.2+ds-1 (universe) from Debian sid (main)

2020-09-02 Thread Oibaf
Public bug reported:

Please sync supertuxkart 1.2+ds-1 (universe) from Debian sid (main)

Tested on my PPA at:
https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/ubuntu/graphics-drivers/+packages?field.name_filter=supertuxkart_filter=published_filter=groovy

Changelog entries since current groovy version 1.1+ds-1build2:

supertuxkart (1.2+ds-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.

  [ QwertyChouskie ]
  * New upstream release:
- Drop remove_irrlicht_embedded_libs.patch
- Remove remove_irrlicht_embedded_libs.patch from series
  * Add libsdl2-dev to build-deps. STK 1.2 ported its window creation and
gamepad handling to SDL2.
  * Update supertuxkart.manpages with correct filename for 1.2.

  [ Reiner Herrmann ]
  * Refresh patches and drop fix-hurd-ftbfs.diff (no longer applicable).
  * Remove paths no longer available upstream from d/rules and d/copyright.
  * Update debhelper compat level to 13:
- Mark wiiuse.h and libwiiuse.a as not-installed
  * Bump Standards-Version to 4.5.0.
  * Depend on newly used fonts and symlink to them.
  * d/copyright:
- Document copyright of newly embedded library sheenbidi and new fonts
- Drop android directory from source tarball via Files-Excluded
- Update copyrights
  * Point d/watch to Github.
  * Drop unneeded build-dependencies: libbz2-dev, libfribidi-dev, libraqm-dev.
  * Drop from build-dependencies: libwayland-dev, libxkbcommon-dev,
libegl1-mesa-dev, because window handling is now performed with SDL2.

So I tried that, and no segfault...

Output before:

And output after:
ubuntu@mayapple:~/source$ sudo ipmi-locate

IPMI locate driver: DMIDECODE

all I did was, as you suggested, commented out line 1387, and this

I installed the ppa and tested the glibc 2.27-3 package.
I can confirm the issue #1851263 can't be reproduced.

Thanks for the update!

[Bug 1890751] Re: unmatched entry for securetty on focal

2020-09-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
See also:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pam/+bug/1860826
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=674857#25
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=931899

"FWIW, the latest login upload to unstable (1:4.7-1) dropped support for
/etc/securetty and removed that file on upgrades, due to the numerous
complaints it caused... This lead to complaints by pam_unix in the
system logs on every login, see #931899."

So the warning is superfluous, and merely serves to cause confusion for
other unrelated bugs (e.g. LP #1860826 comments 8-12).

Apparently a workaround is to remove "nullok_secure" from the auth line
in /etc/pam.d/common-auth.

Logwatch sounds unsure about carrying this change upstream, but given
the above I think it is worth carrying in the Ubuntu delta at least.
When LP: #1860826 is resolved for -devel and all supported LTS' the
logwatch delta could be dropped, although the messages likely will
linger in log files and thus show up in "--range All" for some time.

focal and groovy have login 1:4.8.1-1 so are affected, but bionic has
1:4.5-1 so this is only applicable for SRU to focal.

[Bug 1867366] Re: hostnqn fails to automatically generate after installing nvme-cli

2020-09-02 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Oops there is something else.. hostnqn *could* come from kernel (from
nvme-connect Documentation):

--hostnqn=::
Overrides the default Host NQN that identifies the NVMe Host.
If this option is not specified, the default is read from
/etc/nvme/hostnqn first. If that does not exist, the autogenerated
NQN value from the NVMe Host kernel module is used next.
The Host NQN uniquely identifies the NVMe Host.

the documentation for nvme-discover.txt does not contain the kernel
part.

But I could not find any code reading hostnqn from sysfs or ioctls or
anything like it .. (weird). There is a function to automatically
generate a hostnqn with libuuid ... but nothing else as it seems.. so
the documentation seems wrong.

So I think that for both, Bionic and Focal, we should concentrate in
hard coded:

#define PATH_NVME_FABRICS   "/dev/nvme-fabrics"
#define PATH_NVMF_DISC  "/etc/nvme/discovery.conf"
#define PATH_NVMF_HOSTNQN   "/etc/nvme/hostnqn"
#define PATH_NVMF_HOSTID"/etc/nvme/hostid"

(from fabric.c)

Assumption:
- If no hostnqn is given, then there is no way a fabric was configured, and
you're safe to delete both files.

Logic:
- check if hostnqn is set in /etc/nvme/hostnqn, if yes warn user hostid can be
duplicated
  - if not, check if hostid was changed.. if yes, keep it... if no change it to
correct one, create hostnqn

Make Sure:
- both files /etc/nvme/hostnqn and /etc/nvme/hostid are kept on purge (just
because they are related to host identification, user can delete later if
really wanted).

[Bug 1893113] Re: [SRU] Rhythmbox: Cannot add more music after a collection has been created

2020-09-02 Thread fossfreedom
** Description changed:

- * In progress - need to complete*
+ Impact]

- [Impact]
-
- * An explanation of the effects of the bug on users and
-
- * justification for backporting the fix to the stable release.
-
- * In addition, it is helpful, but not required, to include an
-explanation of how the upload fixes this bug.
+ * After a music collection has been first initialised with music
+tracks, the user loses the ability to add more tracks at a later
+date with the modern headerbar interface that is the default for
+Ubuntu and Ubuntu Budgie
+ * Currently the workaround is unintuitive - they have to disable
+the plugin or change to the traditional interface. They
+can then add more tracks using Rhythmbox's "Import" button on the
+main view source toolbar.
+ * With the headerbar modern interface, Rhythmbox's "Import" button is
+hidden. Previously the option was accessible via the menu
+which was a Ubuntu specific patch which was dropped at 20.04
+ * The fix is not to manipulate the main view source toolbar buttons
+i.e. to leave all buttons such as the Import button visible

  [Test Case]

- * detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug
-
- * these should allow someone who is not familiar with the affected
-package to reproduce the bug and verify that the updated package fixes
-the problem.
+ * Ensure that the plugin is enabled in preferences and that the
+"modern" tickbox is enabled
+ * Use "View - Show Source Toolbar" examine the source toolbar
+shown on the main Music source.
+ * Using software-properties-gtk, enable the developer proposed
+repository and install the package
+rhythmbox-plugins-alternative-toolbar
+ * Restart rhythmbox. Check the buttons in the Music Source Toolbar
+ * The import button should be visible. Click the button and import
+more tracks as normal.

  [Regression Potential]

- * discussion of how regressions are most likely to manifest as a result
- of this change.
-
- * It is assumed that any SRU candidate patch is well-tested before
-upload and has a low overall risk of regression, but it's important
-to make the effort to think about what ''could'' happen in the
-event of a regression.
-
- * This both shows the SRU team that the risks have been considered,
-and provides guidance to testers in regression-testing the SRU.
+ * I suppose the worse-case scenario is that there is some hidden
+code in the headerbar interface that was expecting one or more
+buttons in the source toolbar to be hidden. If such code existed
+unexpected functionality might be affected causing the plugin
+to malfunction
+ * I've done a code-review and have found no evidence of such function.
+ * This has been uploaded to Debian and has been available for a couple
+of weeks - by the time of this SRU release there should be more
+than enough time for both communities to verify that there are no
+adverse affects.
+ * The plugin can easily be disabled by the user or swapped to the alternative
+interfaces available if necessary.

  [Other Info]
-
- * Anything else you think is useful to include
- * Anticipate questions from users, SRU, +1 maintenance, security teams and
the Technical Board

[Bug 1867366] Re: hostnqn fails to automatically generate after installing nvme-cli

2020-09-02 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
As long as all policies from:

https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#configuration-
files

and other packaging guidelines are kept, there should be no issues.

But, the intent here is something else in my understanding: to avoid
breakage so the SRU is accepted by the SRU team. Let's say an user has
the environment configured and working and suddenly we decide to move
correctly configured files to .bak just because the binaries were
updated and we "thought" it could be better.

That would break an environment for no reason.

Like open-iscsi iqn generation, we want also to make sure that generated
uuids/iqns/nqns are NOT wiped in the package purging (thus the test in
my first comment for Groovy). We have to make sure the Focal version
also behaves like that... just like open-iscsi does:

[rafaeldtinoco@work iscsi]$ ls
initiatorname.iscsi  iscsid.conf

[rafaeldtinoco@work iscsi]$ apt-file list open-iscsi | grep etc
open-iscsi: /etc/default/open-iscsi
open-iscsi: /etc/init.d/iscsid
open-iscsi: /etc/init.d/open-iscsi
open-iscsi: /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf

where /etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi is not wiped (cause it contains the
iqn).

Makes sense to you both ?

Do you have a bug reference for this, please? And I would want the same
kind of debugging information from this system, to see what is in the db and

[Bug 1892897] Re: Cannot access a Samba file share anymore due to "Failed to retrieve file list from server"

2020-09-02 Thread Morbius1
More of an FYI but you will get a "Software caused connection abort"
error anytime Nautilus tries to connect to a SMB / Samba server that
only uses SMB1.

There is no SMB1 ( NT1 ) on the client ( or server ) side in Ubuntu20.
There is in Ubuntu 18.

SO either enable SMB2/SMB3 on the diskstation or enable SMB1 on the
client side of Ubuntu20 by editing smb.conf and adding in the [global]
section:

client min protocol = NT1

Then reboot.

[Bug 1893985] [NEW] Latest Azure optimised fips-updates kernel 4.15.0-2007-azure-fips leaves instance in unbootable state

2020-09-02 Thread David Coronel
Public bug reported:

In Azure, updating an instance to the latest Azure optimised fips-
updates kernel (4.15.0-2007-azure-fips) leaves the system in an
unbootable state.

The serial console shows the following and reboots:

Checking kernel image: /boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-2007-azure-fips
Kernel integrity check failed
Rebooting automatically due to panic= boot argument

This is with the instance type Standard D2s v3

Steps to reproduce (with the UA client in Ubuntu Pro):

-Launch an Ubuntu Pro 18.04 instance on AWS on a Standard D2s v3
instance

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-server/ua-client-daily --yes
sudo apt install ubuntu-advantage-tools ubuntu-advantage-pro --yes
sudo ua disable livepatch
sudo ua enable fips-updates --beta
sudo apt install linux-azure-fips

KERNEL=$(awk -F"'" '/menuentry.*azure-fips/ { print $(NF-1); exit }'
/boot/grub/grub.cfg)

sudo tee /etc/default/grub.d/99-fips.cfg << __EOF__
GRUB_DEFAULT="Advanced options for Ubuntu>$KERNEL"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="\$GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT fips=1"
__EOF__

sudo update-grub
sudo reboot

-Look at serial console in Azure Portal

Attaching screenshot of error before kernel panic and auto reboot.

[Bug 1887821] Re: [nvidia] gnome-shell GUI freezes totally

2020-09-02 Thread Sami Kuisma
could the freeze be something GPU related?

Sep  2 21:04:51 Aorus-Ultra-Ryzen kernel: [935088.204347] NVRM: GPU at
PCI::09:00: GPU-1aac77c3-3e8f-aca5-1c8e-19e660d74551
Sep  2 21:04:51 Aorus-Ultra-Ryzen kernel: [935088.204351] NVRM: Xid
(PCI::09:00): 62, pid=826, 0c83(1780)

the system froze around 21:05 (next reboot was 21:07:30)

[Bug 1867366] Re: hostnqn fails to automatically generate after installing nvme-cli

2020-09-02 Thread Matt Schulte
Rafael, would it be wrong to simply take any existing files and save
them with an .bak extension? That way if the user really wanted their
old ID they could go get it back?
