[Bug 1890435] Re: gcc-10 breaks on armhf (flaky): internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

2020-09-14 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
There was another one in Groovy as of yesterday.
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4263/+packages
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/497497840/buildlog_ubuntu-groovy-armhf.qemu_1%3A5.0-5ubuntu8~ppa1_BUILDING.txt.gz

 6570 | }
  | ^
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See for instructions.
...
The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.

So the compiler itself is recognizing that it isn't the source code
(alone) but some awkwardness that is flaky.

It seems qemu builds in groovy hit this in ~1/3 of the builds we do on
armhf - not sure if that is enough for debugging for you?

[Bug 1756315] Re: fstrim and discard operations take too long to complete - Ubuntu 16.04

2020-09-14 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hello Alexandre,

I tried to reproduce this bug, and I believe it has been fixed.

I started a i3.4xlarge instance on AWS, with Xenial as the distro:

$ uname -rv
4.4.0-1112-aws #124-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 24 11:10:25 UTC 2020

>From there, I checked the NVMe disks:

$ lsblk
NAMEMAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
xvda202:008G 0 disk
`-xvda1 202:108G 0 part /
nvme0n1 259:00 1.7T 0 disk
nvme1n1 259:10 1.7T 0 disk

Made a Raid 0 array:

$ sudo mdadm --create --verbose --level=0 /dev/md0 --raid-devices=2
/dev/nvme0n1 /dev/nvme1n1
mdadm: chunk size defaults to 512K
mdadm: Defaulting to version 1.2 metadata
mdadm: array /dev/md0 started

And formatted it:

$ time sudo mkfs.xfs /dev/md0

real0m24.414s

sys 0m7.664s

I also tried to fstrim:

$ sudo mkdir /mnt/disk
$ sudo mount /dev/md0 /mnt/disk
$ sudo fstrim /mnt/disk
$ time sudo fstrim /mnt/disk

real0m22.083s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m7.560s

Things seem okay, I think this has been fixed somewhere between 4.4.0-1052-aws
and 4.4.0-1112-aws.

[Bug 1891773] Re: kcompactd0 and btrfs-transaction keep deadlocking with each other

2020-09-14 Thread Miroslav Goldgamer
For some time now I thought the issue is related to the storage for few months
now.
I currently have a system with -113 kernel and btrfs running for over 30 days
but other systems with this kernel had issues. In other hand - previous kernels
had issues (since 106 or so)

[Bug 1893004] Re: [SRU]alsa-ucm-conf: the volume can't be adjusted on the usb audio of the Dell WD15/WD19 dock

2020-09-14 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Hui, or anyone else affected,

Accepted alsa-ucm-conf into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-ucm-
conf/1.2.2-1ubuntu0.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1895612] Re: Dynamically set AD5593R channel modes

2020-09-14 Thread AceLan Kao
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
On Advantech UNO-420 development platform, we need a generic way to set the
pin mode.
+ Upstream would like us to leverage ACPI override method to change the modes,
but in Ubuntu core, we can't generate a new initramfs and boot up with the
generated initramfs.

  [Fix]
Add a module parameter to assign pin modes while loading ad5593r driver.

  [Test]
  Verified on Advantech UNO-420 platform.

  [Regression Potential]
- Low,
+ Low, it checks the length of the passed parameter, and checks every bytes in
it to make sure it's a valid argument.

[Bug 1895618] [NEW] ubuntu dock bounces when on bottom and auto-hide is active

2020-09-14 Thread Russell Weber
Public bug reported:

While dock is locked to the bottom of the screen and hidden while not in use,
once un-hidden/activated it will bounce back and forth between hidden and
un-hidden. This is much more apparent or frequent when there is a window that
is either maximized or has a boarder near the bottom of the screen next to
where the dock will be activated at (Usually the bottom 10 or 20 pixels of the
screen).
This is potentially a GNOME issues or an "Ubuntu Dock", issue. However, I
don't have the time at the moment to diagnose this further.

Attached is a video which shows the bug in action.

[Bug 1895615] [NEW] Backlight adjustment doesn't work on Google Pixel Slate

2020-09-14 Thread satmandu
Public bug reported:

The Pixel Slate/nocturne backlight does not work due to DPCD logic not
identifying the DPCD backlight connection since there is no PWM on the
nocturne or eve devices.

ChromeOS documentation of disconnected PWM: https://chromium-
review.googlesource.com/c/chromiumos/overlays/board-overlays/+/1171922

Discussion of issue & solution: https://github.com/EmbeddedAndroid
/linux-eve/issues/2#issuecomment-561382927

This can be fixed with a simple patch which I have applied successfully to
mainline 5.9-rc5:
https://gist.github.com/satmandu/d6c2192f66cd14525049fd34d356d71d

Luckily the Ubuntu kernel patches set i915.enable_psr=0 which keeps
Panel Self Refresh from dimming the backlight at boot, but that isn't
even needed for this device once the backlight is hooked up correctly.

(As a bonus the keyboard backlight also starts working properly at
boot.)

Author: Mika Westerberg

thunderbolt: Retry DROM read once if parsing fails

Kai-Heng reported that sometimes DROM parsing of ASUS PA27AC Thunderbolt 3
monitor fails. This makes the driver to fail to add the device so only
DisplayPort tunneling is functional.

It is not clear what exactly happens but waiting for 100 ms and retrying
the read seems to work this around so we do that here.

[Bug 1895603] Re: alsa/hdmi: the hdmi audio stops working from Ubuntu-4.4.0-155.182

2020-09-14 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ [Impact]
+ We had a Dell machine, this machine was enabled with ubuntu 4.4
+ kernel before, but recently the hdmi audio on this machine stopped
+ working with the latest ubuntu 4.4. kernel. The system can't detect
+ its plugging and can't output sound to it anymore.
+
+ [Fix]
+ This is because we backported a patch from stable updates, and that
+ patch is for v5.2 kernel, if we backported it to 4.4 kernel, we need
+ to do some change, and also we need to backport one more patch from
+ stabe kernel.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Connect a monitor to the machine and boot up, after booting up, we
+ could see the hdmi audio is found, and play sound to the hdmi audio,
+ we could hear the sound from monitor.
+
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ It is possible to make the hdmi audio fail to work after applying this
+ patchset, like the hdmi audio can't be detected after plugging a hdmi
+ monitor. But this possibility is very low, we tested the patchset on
+ many dell and lenovo machines, all worked well.

[Bug 1895600] Re: Error in xorg package

2020-09-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I also wonder if you're trying to do something that isn't in your best
interests (I was reminded me of Daniel van Vugt's comment #16 in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/1867668), but I'll change package to xorg-server too.

[Bug 1895600] Re: Error in xorg package

2020-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's the wrong driver for your system which is why it doesn't install
properly.

The best and newest driver for Intel is the one you already have
installed:

  /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so

If you really want to experiment with the old driver then the package to
install is:

  xserver-xorg-video-intel-hwe-18.04

but I don't recommend it.

2020-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. I can't see anything obvious in that log.

Next please try disabling all Ubuntu extensions in the 'Extensions' app.
Then log out and log in again. Because that log shows you do at least
still have 'Ubuntu Dock' enabled.

[Bug 1892306] Re: virsh snapshot-create-as fails when --disk-only is specified

2020-09-14 Thread KarlGoetz
Hi paelzer,

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1845506 seems a
very good description of my problem, wonder why I missed it (also great
work on tracking it down!).

We're on Ubuntu 18.04, not sure if we'll be moving to 20.04 in the near
term or not (it depends on Other Things).

Not sure about your final request (sorry) - are you asking me to do a
local backport to test the packages or build a new server to test the
instance/s on ?

Karl.

[Bug 1895597] [NEW] No Launch app with discrete GPU option

2020-09-14 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Even though my HP Gaming Hybrid laptop on CPU Ryzen graphics works
really well with Kubuntu 20.10 there is no easy way to launch
applications using the Nvidia 1050 discrete GPU. The only way I am able
to launch using the discrete GPU is by changing to "on-demand" mode
using sudo prime-select on-demand then launching applications using
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia.

I do believe their is supposed to be a Launch app with discrete GPU
option found in the Open Application Launcher in the Advanced Options
found on the Application Tab (https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Tips
#launch-app-with-discrete-gpu). I do not see this in the advanced tab
on Kubuntu 20.10. The options I see are run in terminal, run as
different user, and enable launch feedback. I can not see the Launch
app with discrete GPU option anywhere.

Even though this option in the advanced panel will be nice it would be
even more helpful to make this option more obvious for novice users if
possible.

[Bug 1848496] Re: [zfs-root] "device-mapper: reload ioctl on osprober-linux-sdaX failed: Device or resource busy" against devices owned by ZFS

2020-09-14 Thread Brendan Dolan-Gavitt
Is there any workaround that allows os-prober to find the Windows
partitions? Or, failing that, a way to just run the part of os-prober
that prints out the appropriate grub config section (I know what the
partition is so if there's a way to just run something like "os-prober-
windows /dev/sdb1" that would be perfect).

I have double-checked that there is nothing in the boot configuration

only the signed EFI executables - modification of which would cause the
image to subsequently fail to boot). Any modification of this image

[Bug 1895422] Re: Sound card not detected on Dell Latitude 9510 (Realtek ALC711)

2020-09-14 Thread Harrison Chen
I installed linux-oem-20.04 and also turned on focal-proposed updates
and did apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.

Though -- this was only enough to get it to recognize the speaker. The
pitch/video speed is still wrong, so it's not really quite usable.

I should correct something I said earlier: video playback is just too
fast across the board, e.g. on Youtube it's playing at maybe double the
speed and the pitch is high. However, even when I slow the playback
speed down to normal (by selecting 0.5x speed) the pitch is *still* too
high.

I suspect the wrong driver is being used for the sound card. It is
still detecting "00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation
Device 02c8" instead of the Realtek card.

[Bug 1894453] Re: Building Ceph packages with RelWithDebInfo

2020-09-14 Thread Ponnuvel Palaniyappan
@Tyler, Canonical's Ceph builds don't deal with build options as such (like
-DNDEBUG) but uses the
upstream provided CMakeLists.txt files. So if we build with RelWithDebInfo, it
should automatically use -DNDEBUG, too. The question was whether our build uses
RelWithDebInfo -- which turns out to be case for all but rocksdb.

[Bug 1894453] Re: Building Ceph packages with RelWithDebInfo

2020-09-14 Thread Ponnuvel Palaniyappan
@Corey Bryant, I think Ceph simply specifies rocksdb version to be used
in the submodule information.

1. I checked out the tag v15.2.3 (upstream): git checkout tags/v15.2.3 -b 15.2.3
(which src/rocksdb is an empty directory)

2. Initialize submodule indexes: git submodule update --init

3. The commit HEAD of rocksdb that Ceph 15.2.3 uses:
$ git submodule status | grep rocksdb
 4c736f177851cbf9fb7a6790282306ffac5065f8 rocksdb (v5.8-1436-g4c736f177)

I think this is how Ceph upstream "matches" the versions of various
submodules (rocksdb is one of them) for a given Ceph release.

Comparing the above cloned rocksdb matches exactly with UCA's repo. So I
think the UCA's repo is upto date and there's no such problem of using
"older" version of rocksdb as I speculated.

So the question is whether we want to cherry-pick build change from
upstream so as compile rocksdb with RelWithDebInfo or wait until
upstream defaults to a newer rocksdb submodule that does build with
RelWithDebInfo by default.

P.S: One thing I don't know is what mechanism upstream follow before they
decide to use
a newer version of rocksdb. For example, the rocksdb version 6.8.1 contains the
change
to use 'RelWithDebInfo' - which was released/tagged on April 17th [0] as part
of Ceph repo. But the Ceph 15.2.3 release [1] that was done on May 29 didn't
include that but uses an older version of rocksdb (as noted initially in the
comment). My guess is that upstream always integrate recent rocksdb commits in
Ceph master for testing/development purposes. But when it comes to release,
they choose the one that they think is stable.
