[Bug 1894731] Re: [MIR] golang-*, Go build dependencies of google-guest-agent

2020-10-01 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Agreed, I keep the "incompletes" that are re-assigned with various tasks in
case one wants to ever re-pick-up the approach to de-vendurized this.
All other tasks will go to "Won't Fix" to properly reflect this is aborted.

[Bug 1898155] [NEW] oomd is useless. at least with default configuration

2020-10-01 Thread Rimas Kudelis
Public bug reported:

I have 16GB or RAM and 2GB of swap. I also usually have several docker
containers up, and also run an IDE (PhpStorm) and Firefox with about a
million tabs open (bad habit, I know).

Each of these things consumes memory, so typically I don't have that much free
RAM.
Every now and then, some webpage I have open in Firefox will trigger something
akin to a memory leak, thus causing Firefox to gradually consume more and more
RAM, until there's no more free RAM left, at which point the computer begins
swapping like crazy and becomes unusable. Usually, I give up waiting for it to
become responsive in a couple minutes and just turn it off and then back on.

That's why I installed oomd. I hoped it would notice the computer
approaching that point of no return and kill Firefox (or PhpStorm, or
whatever else), then I would just reopen the application and continue
working.

BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENS! And I believe that that is worthy of a bug
report, because in essense it means that oomd absolutely fails to do
what it's meant to do.

I have package version 0.4.0-1 installed on Ubuntu 20.04:

$ apt policy oomd
oomd:
  Įdiegta:0.4.0-1
  Kandidatas: 0.4.0-1

This seems to happen at a time the process is already
broken and the logging dead. Any chance to catch the
logrotate that switches it from working to failing if
that shows anything different?

Yeah that really means it is active but not taking up messages it should
take :-/

The file did not get mirrored/attached in case that was a mail attachment.
Could someone get that attached to the bug on launchpad?

Also since this again was called a "crash" (I doubt since in the
logs before it seemed the PID stayed the same, but if there is a
chance) is there a crash file in /var/crash for it?

The Wireless adapter Broadcom/Dell BCM4352 802.11ac Wireless Network
Adapter does not work starting kernel versions 5.4.0-47-lowlatency and
5.4.0-48-lowlatency

Works fine in 5.4.0-45-lowlatency.

As I dont have wifi/network, in the newer kernels, logging this bug now
from 5.4.0-45-lowlatency

I will attach the required logs in a bit.

manually installing grub works like this:

# grub-install --force --removable --boot-directory=/boot /dev/sda
Installing for i386-pc platform.
Installation finished. No error reported.

meanwhile as a workaround I have symlinked /var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst
to /bin/true so other apt commands can succeed.

this bionic to focal upgrade still fails. not sure if this is the proper
place to discuss.

18.04.5 installed minimal in vmware player then do-release-upgrade:

[Bug 1898140] [NEW] Enable building for aarch64

2020-10-01 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I briefly tested arm64 build of acpi on Lenovo Yoga C630 WOS (based on
Qualcomm Snapdragon 850, ACPI capable) and it's seems work:

~$ acpi
Battery 0: Unknown, 0%, rate information unavailable
Battery 1: Discharging, 94%, 00:48:55 remaining

(Remaining time is driver issue.)

So maybe it's makes sense to enable arm64 builds in archive?

The workaround at

seems to work:

On line 1839 of gmusicbrowser.pl (gmusicbrowser-1.1.15), comment out "exit".
For example:

  exec $Options{Shutdown_cmd} if $turnoff && $Options{Shutdown_cmd};

[Bug 1898038] Re: docker-support/multipass-support broken with system apparmor3 (20.10)

2020-10-01 Thread Alex Murray
Vendoring /etc/apparmor* into snapd still sounds a bit problematic - the
question would be then which aa2 version to vendor - and ideally to
avoid a mismatch between the parser and profiles we would still want to
vendor apparmor_parser into snapd then too.

For completeness, Jamie also suggested on IRC that we could bind-mount
the parser from the host into the snap - in this case, there is still an
open question of whether we always do this, or just when the multipass-
support/docker-support interface is connected. I would think that
perhaps it makes most sense to only do this in the interface support
code.

This last option seems the easiest quick fix since it does not require
updates to the base snaps and it doesn't have much chance of regression
(compared to using the apparmor config/profiles of the base snaps) since
we are already using this (host) policy for these interfaces.

[Bug 1893969] Re: Characters are rendered with a slight border when using custom xrandr scaling

2020-10-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Comment #8 looks like the same bug, which I would now assign to either
emacs or xorg-server.

Comment #9 looks like a different bug so let's not discuss that here.
Each problem should have a separate bug report.

[Bug 1883174] Re: Some desktop icons disappear

2020-10-01 Thread John Hoff
Just FYI for anyone that stumbles upon this thread. In Ubuntu 20.04, if
you want to work around the issue for now it can be done by placing your
preferred desktop files in the home (or any other) folder and just
placing link files to those files on your desktop. When you do this you
can still double click and edit files directly from the desktop, but
when you save it doesn't lose or move around the desktop files. It even
eliminates the flicker.

Because the image contains an entirely separate ESP partition, which is not
part of the iso9660 filesystem.

Some systems (notably, certain Lenovo ideapads) don't respect this part of
the UEFI specification for USB booting, and require the non-standard
EFI/BOOT directory to be on the iso9660 filesystem.

This has been addressed for the first daily image after the 20.10 beta. I'm
marking this bug as a duplicate of the primary bug that is being used to
track this work.

The problem of no apport-collect data being uploaded is no specifics as
to image being tested, nor other details are provided.

Thank you for uploading lshw detail though.

Groovy images are 'daily' (~interval), so whilst currently spins are
only being made when necessary, we can still get one or more per day.

Another way of recording detail where you're having trouble maybe
recording the details on the QA (Quality Assurance) web site, and
linking the problem you're having with this bug report. That will
provide a means to record which ISO you've had problems with, and record
subsequent tests.

For the Ubuntu groovy daily, see
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/413/builds
For the Ubuntu groovy beta, see
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/417/builds

You can use `zsync` to reduce bandwidth used to update your ISO instead
of a full download.

Thanks again for taking the time to help make Ubuntu better

[Bug 1311403] Re: Can't type password after resume.

2020-10-01 Thread Pete Cowley
I did not have this issue in 18.04 but now that I have upgraded to
20.04.01 (Ubuntu-studio) I now have it and it is really annoying. I did
not know how to work around it so had to reboot my machine. Fortunately
this thread has given me a couple of things to try now.

Interestingly, the login background had the xbuntu background showing
and the password box would not accept any text although it KNEW if the
caps lock key was pressed as it gave a warning. The login screen was
completely different to the usual one after reboot.

[Bug 1896246] Re: Vendor golang-* build dependencies

2020-10-01 Thread Steve Beattie
For the record, the Ubuntu Security team signs off on the plan to vendor
the golang dependencies for the google-guest-agent and google-oslogin-
agent packages as they go through the MIR process, for the reasons given
above.

Thanks!

[Bug 1896557] Re: Problems with bootable Ubuntu 20.10 USB stick

2020-10-01 Thread Marcos Nascimento
Looking at the ubuntu 20.10 installation pendrive I checked the absence
of the "EFI" folder. So I was wondering: How will the system start in
EFI without said folder?

[Bug 1460447] Re: Boot slow, "scanning for btrfs filesystems" takes 100 seconds

2020-10-01 Thread Simon Iremonger
I can confirm my specific failure was fixed with kernel 5.4.0-48 ...

Question for original reporter Dan -- is this issue (slow btrfs
scanning) still occuring for you? Now fixed?
