[Bug 1901708] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.22-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-10-31 Thread A
I have a large database in my case. It is around 1Mb when exported.

But I had it for months now, and this is the first time this problem started to
happen. It has been happening for a few days now.
I read in the report that it depends on gcc and python, which I upgraded a few
weeks ago. Could that be related?

Sometimes it happened while using the app that is connected to the
database. It showed an exception that the connection/signal was lost,
and I had to restart it.

Thanks for your time.

I would add that I am having a really weird internet problem, where
sometimes the browser can't open any page, then a moment later I would
just refresh and they would load just fine.

[Bug 1902398] Re: Files shared via Samba are shown as folders

2020-10-31 Thread jsquared
** Description changed:

Similar symptoms to Bug #1872476, however issues occur even with the
patched version of the Samaba package (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2).

  [Symptoms]
- - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from MacOS, some files are
represented as directories.
- - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from Windows, these same files
are not shown at all.
-
+  - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from MacOS, some files are
represented as directories.
+  - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from Windows, these same files
are shown as directories, with a gray "X" over the folder icon.

  [Scenario / steps to reproduce]
- - Clean install of Ubuntu 20.04
- - Install Samba package thru apt
- - Create Samba share pointing to folder on local filesystem
- - Access Samba share from MacOS machine
- - Observe that some or all files in the share are displayed as folders
- - Using Terminal on MacOS, cd-ing to the affected directory and running ls
-al shows drwx, e.g. "drwxr--r--- 1 user group 2263221 Jul 21 2020
DSC_0524.JPG" despite DSC_0524.JPG being a file rather than a directory.
- - Copying any of these "files" to the MacOS machine's local filesystem will
result in the file remaining a directory.

result in the file remaining a directory.

-
- Curiously, I've observed the behavior on only certain directories within a
given Samba share. For example, I have a "media" share on my NAS, with 3
directories - Movies, TV, and Photos. In this Samba share, only the Photos
directory exhibits the bug in question, which affects all files in the root of
Photos as well as any files in any subdirectories. However no files in the
Movies and TV directories in the root of the Samba share are affected.

the bug took affect. No configuration changes were made (at least user-
initiated ones) between normal operation and the issue starting.

[Bug 1901377] Re: Incorrect label in Software Updater

Hi Timo,

Shouldn't this fix be accepted into focal-proposed instead?

As you can see in the attached image, I would be able to test it with:
> "Software & Updates"
> "Developer Options"
> "Pre-released updates (focal-proposed)"

Thanks,

Paco Milan.

[Bug 1902398] [NEW] Files shared via Samba are shown as folders

2020-10-31 Thread jsquared
Public bug reported:

Similar symptoms to Bug #1872476, however issues occur even with the
patched version of the Samaba package (2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2).

[Symptoms]
 - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from MacOS, some files are
represented as directories.
 - When accessing Ubuntu-hosted Samba shares from Windows, these same files are
not shown at all.

[Scenario / steps to reproduce]
 - Clean install of Ubuntu 20.04
 - Install Samba package thru apt
 - Create Samba share pointing to folder on local filesystem
 - Access Samba share from MacOS machine
 - Observe that some or all files in the share are displayed as folders
 - Using Terminal on MacOS, cd-ing to the affected directory and running ls -al
shows drwx, e.g. "drwxr--r--- 1 user group 2263221 Jul 21 2020
DSC_0524.JPG" despite DSC_0524.JPG being a file rather than a directory.
 - Copying any of these "files" to the MacOS machine's local filesystem will
result in the file remaining a directory.

Curiously, I've observed the behavior on only certain directories within a
given Samba share.

Also, this particular Samba share was running for approx 9 days before
the bug took affect. No configuration changes were made (at least user-
initiated ones) between normal operation and the issue starting.

2020-10-31 Thread jsquared
Just started seeing this issue again today as well (was working fine
yesterday; no updates run overnight either that I'm aware of..)

Samba 2:4.11.6+dfsg-0ubuntu1.2, Ubuntu 20.04.1

[Bug 1902393] [NEW] Unable to upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04

2020-10-31 Thread Ian Kenworthy
Public bug reported:

Could not determine the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was likely caused by:
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will
contain details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and
'apt.log'.

I have removed all ppa: - no difference

Thank you for reporting this problem. The latest version [1] allows
you to adjust the polling interval. Will decreasing
polling_interval_active_us to 1ms fix the problem?

$ echo 1000 > /sys/module/i2c_hid/parameters/polling_interval_active_us
# you may change polling_interval_idle_ms as well
$ echo 2 > /sys/module/i2c_hid/parameters/polling_interval_idle_ms

[Bug 1902391] [NEW] Who maintain isc-dhcp-server.service ?

2020-10-31 Thread Vasili Pupkin
Public bug reported:

I cant find this file in repository https://salsa.debian.org/dhcp-team
/isc-dhcp

The file seams to be long unmaintained and outdated and I don't even
know where to post a patch.

There are multiple bugs associated with it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isc-dhcp/+bug/1894172
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isc-dhcp/+bug/1824433
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isc-dhcp/+bug/1774342

The file /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server format was changed but no one has
changed the /lib/systemd/system/isc-dhcp-server.service

** Affects: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1872984] Re: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] network driver rtl_wifi crashes on boot in Focal Fossa 20.04 - 5.4.0-21-generic and mainline 5.7.0-050700rc1-generic

2020-10-31 Thread Pablo
Update:

Based on comments here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=206411#c12

I tried adding "options rtw88_pci disable_aspm=1" to
/etc/modprobe.d/rtw88_pci.conf , which appears to solve the issue in
Groovy Gorilla under 5.8.0-25-generic.

I will update if this workaround is not permanent.

[Bug 1899304] Re: Linux 5.4.0-48 (and later) causes GPU lockup, huge performance drop, makes GNOME desktop fail to start and games going from 70fps to 7fps, slow file loading, audio issues

2020-10-31 Thread Thomas Debesse
Here is another photo of display glitch happening when the computer
hangs. I got it with both the Radeon X1950 and the Radeon HD 4670.

What happens it at startup, the GNOME Shell desktop makes an animation,
expanding itself from the center of the screen. In such screenshot, we
see the computer hang before the full size of the screen is reached
(blues square is the frame of the screen).

It has happened twice in the last little bit where I opened a menu on an
icon in the dock and the menu remains opened "forever" (until next
reboot).

Opening other menus from other icons in the dock works as expected.

In most cases, the menu that's stuck is "transparent" to clicks, that
is, when I try to click a menu item, the thing behind the menu gets
clicked.

When I'm able to click on an item in the menu (it turns orange when I do
that successfully) then the mouse pointer is stuck over that item and
that's it... nothing happens. Using Cmd-Tab to switch between windows
waken the mouse up so I could use it again.

I tried to restart the GDM3, the dock & menu came back as it was before
the restart.

sudo systemctl restart display-manager

I tried once to Log Out (instead of rebooting) and the graphical
interface didn't come back. I tried to restart the GDM from another
computer (remotely through SSH) and the screen flashed a bit but it went
right back to the boot console. So in other words the Log Out failed.
Probably waiting on something that has a deadlock?

The only way I've found to fix the issue is to reboot the computer
(which I do not like to do too much... plus it takes about 3 min. with
my monster server).

your IT administrator could configure the snap apps and mounts so that
you could use the local filesystem via a directory under /mnt by
applying these instructions: https://askubuntu.com/a/1286929/21005

[Bug 1899304] Re: Linux 5.4.0-48 (and later) causes GPU lockup, huge performance drop, makes GNOME desktop fail to start and games going from 70fps to 7fps, slow file loading, audio issues

2020-10-31 Thread Thomas Debesse
I reproduce the bug on another computer, using 5.4.0-52-generic kernel:

Motherboard: Asrock AM2NF3 VSTA
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 970 (Quad core)
RAM: 16GB DDR2 800MHz (4×4 GB)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4670 AGP
VRAM: 1GB DDR3

Of course the same computer works flawlessly with 5.4.0-47-generic
kernel.

I noticed that if I plug a Radeon 9250 instead of the Radeon HD 4670,
the desktop uses LLVMpipe software and GNOME manages to start
successfully but this is so slow I can see the desktop being drawn. Note
that LLVMpipe rendering on that same GPU but on 5.4.0-47-generic kernel
is not that slow. When running 5.4.0-53-generic I can see the pixels
being painted, that say so much how slow Ubuntu becomes on kernel
greater than 5.4.0-47-generic.

the bug is due to a php5.6 version incompatible with the php7.4 used in the

Have to keep php5.6. It would therefore be a good thing that php dependant

[Bug 1875159] Re: Official Skype on Ubuntu 20.04 "No device found"

2020-10-31 Thread JoanCF
Something similar happens to me.
I have a new computer where I installed Ubuntu (with xfce) 20.04
Skye and Microsoft Teams, work perfectly after fresh install or for new users,
but not for my user for which I copied all the data and configuration from
another computer with ubuntu 18.04.
I have tried to remove the .confg folder and then Skype and Teams detect the
microphone,
I logout/in again and it works

But when I copy the the previous configuration of other programs it fails.
It took me a long time to get out, add some configuration files, in again and
test what was the error
and... I found that starting the owncloud desktop client at startup was
blocking sound...
Why? I could not get an answer to this

but If I put owncloud at startup , then they don't detect any
device!!!

[Bug 1855736] Re: Duplicity fails to start

2020-10-31 Thread Michael Terry
Nikita, your issue actually looks a lot like something fixed in duplicity
0.8.16:
https://gitlab.com/duplicity/duplicity/-/commit/f6809e8a4e09b70138a0902434d8c88d3c4c8ccb

Try installing the snap version of deja-dup or duplicity, both of which
have the fix for this.

tested by uninstalling "tcl" and then installing "usb-modeswitch
2.6.1-1ubuntu2".

usb-modeswitch is working fine now with just "tcl8.6" installed (which
is listed as a dependency of usb-modeswitch), but no "tcl" package.

The workaround is only part of the solution, the link still opens as a

broken for now since they are supposed to launch as a separate

[Bug 1872527] Re: Clipboard doesn't work 100% of the time in Ubuntu 20.04 (in KVM guests)

2020-10-31 Thread Jakub Klos
@paelzer Hello Christian, fix small fix did not help but bigger fix
works for me fine on focal.

I did not have to update the spice-vdaagent on the host. All I did was
update on the guest and things started working instantly (after reboot
of course).

I can help in further testing if needed.

Now, the question is how do we go about this same problem on Windows
guests? Do we need to apply the patch to the guest spice tools as well?

Thank you

First, this is not the same bug, but a support issue.

duplicity can't stat /home/nikodll/.hardinfo/.deja-dup-ignore, so you
need to run duplicity as root, i.e. 'sudo duplicity ...'.

Thanks! I needed something simple today! :-)

[Bug 1897185] Re: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login

2020-10-31 Thread Tim Wetzel
Another system failed under 20.04.1: A T480 that hadn't been used for a
while, set up dual boot Ubuntu 20.04 and Win 10. Ubuntu had updates
waiting including the 20.04.1 updates from several weeks ago. As soon as
that installed and the system was restarted, malfunctions began. The
system was docked (UltraDock) running lid closed with an external HDMI
display as primary and a Lenovo USB external keyboard. The dock also had
a Logitech USB dongle for the wireless Logitech mouse.

Immediately upon restarting, the system suspended as soon as the login
password was entered. In looking at the logs, it appears that the action
immediately preceeding the suspend was loading the Logitech module. This
now happens every startup unless the Logitech mouse is turned OFF during
startup.

The splash screen is turned off to prevent the spinning logo hang (done
on the first restart after the updates -- after resuming from suspend --
to prevent the hang); the initramfs error messages are on full display
with every start.

This system includes discrete nVidia graphics on an 8th gen Intel
chipset with Sierra Wireless. Ubuntu is using the proprietary nVidia
drivers, which were loaded prior to the 20.04.1 updates; those updates
did install the most recent nVidia driver. This system does NOT have
Dropbox loaded.

Posting this to provide another data point that I hope will help to pin
down this problem. FYI, this is now 3 of 3 Ubuntu LTS 20.04 systems here
that have been afflicted with the Ubuntu 20.04.1 bugs.

+ UPDATE: I notice this problem even when I leave the system that results
+ in a screen lock - in such a case, the screen remains frozen. So the
+ screen prior to locking can be screen -- inadvertently by an unintended
+ person.
+
Steps to reproduce the bug (And a workaround to keep working with it):

  - Suspend the system (typically the system remains suspended for > 30mins)
  - Resume by pressing any key
  - A blank screen with a mouse pointer appears

To get back the unlock screen, manually switch to a terminal (e.g. Ctrl + Alt
+ F3) and then do
  - $ ps -Af | grep lock
  - $ kill -9 ${PID_OF_kscreenlocker_greet)
+

Switch back to Ctrl + Alt + F1...

Re: [Bug 1893274] Re: Certbot will stop working for 23, 847 users with upcoming Let's Encrypt deprecation

2020-10-31 Thread Harlan Lieberman-Berg
Unfortunately, pebble doesn't support ACMEv1. This is the same
problem I've run into on the Debian side; I've backported the patches
and prepared updated packages, but I'm hesitant to send them for
upload to stable without some mechanism to test them.

LE's testing server no longer responds to ACMEv1 renewals, correct? If
I got a new certificate using ACMEv2, manually added the v1 URLs into
the renewal config, and tried to do a renewal, would that error?

[Bug 1902368] [NEW] debootstrap (deb and udeb) should be updated in bionic-security

2020-10-31 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Public bug reported:

AIUI, a end user should be able to install a system with just the
release archive and the security pocket enabled. However, if one tries
to do this with a preseed using a https protocol, it will fail with the
bug resolved in LP: #1772556. I think it would make sense to provide the
same fix for apt-transport-https in the security pocket? Right now, in
our internal mirror, I have to manually sync only the debootstrap
packets from bionic-updates, while everything else we need to install
can come from release + security.

2020-10-31 Thread Cybermax
And now packages are being built for "ubuntu next" - Hirsute Hippo
 still at
gcc-mingw-w64_22 .

https://merges.ubuntu.com/g/gcc-mingw-w64/

Assuming this is some autogenerated thingy from "M.O.M" or whatnot.. I
am surely being really dense here, but would be happy with a reason
someone like me will understand :) I understand that the ubuntu world is
moving a lot slower than i would like  (hence the ability to create ppa
packages), but it would be nice to not be 2-3 releases ahead of the
current dev release when i want to build a backport package... cos i
might end up breaking some stuff in the process.
