[Bug 1875548] Re: Its not easy to determine how to skip the filesystem check
Forget "quiet", it's whether "fsck.mode=skip" is the last thing on the kernel command line. There is no disk check if there is something after "fsck.mode=skip". I tried "quiet". Then I tried "nomodeset" instead. I tried putting a blank at the end of the line. That was *not* enough to make the "fsck" stop the disk check. I was using the GRUB2 editor, so maybe it would have worked if I really added a blank at the end of the line in the grub.cfg file. Also, Ctrl-C does *not* abort the disk check. Given the way the display crawled through a flock of files before saying it was on squashfs, I'm pretty sure I hit the Ctrl-C before it had started on squashfs -- It just did not pay attention. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875548 Title: Its not easy to determine how to skip the filesystem check To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1875548/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1875548] Re: Its not easy to determine how to skip the filesystem check
I craft my boot device by hand. I'm using files filched from some Ubuntu distribution (so, GRUB2), lately booting with the ISO file. I've booted from an external (USB) hard disk, and from thumb drives. On my external hard drive, I copied vmlinuz and initrd to the ESP (because on another machine, with Secure Boot enabled, the version of GRUB2 I filched does not support NTFS filesystems, and I cannot insert the appropriate module). The ISO file is in a subdirectory of an NTFS partition. The GRUB2 item is: set bdir=(${root})/boot set fsd=/os/boot menuentry "Ubuntu 20.04.2 64-bit via ISO" { set gfxpayload=keep set ubdir=${bdir}/ubuntu200402-64 set isopath=${fsd}/ubuntu-20.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso linux ${ubdir}/vmlinuz boot=casper iso-scan/filename=${isopath} ignore_uuid fsck.mode=skip initrd ${ubdir}/initrd } So, GRUB is told to load the kernel and initrd from the FAT- formatted ESP, while the kernel is told to find the ISO file. I observed the same behavior with 20.04.1 as with 20.04.2. I observed the same behavior when booting from a thumb drive as when booting from a hard drive. I haven't tried to find a copy of "20.04". Was there such a thing? Or was 20.04.1 the first released version, the one referred to in all those posts complaining about the automatic disk check?

[Bug 195982] Re: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare
Ok I see this issue is closed as its quite old. Is this particular issue tracked somewhere else? I just upgraded my Ubuntu 16.04 system to Ubuntu 18.04.5 and this issue still exists for me. what I'd like to be able to do is: 1. configure my keyboard on the host laptop to map "Caps Lock as an extra control key" 2. launch a vm in vmware player on the laptop 3. Use both the left and right shift keys inside any window on the host laptop. The workaround of running "setxkbmap" does get around the issue somewhat. For me it does allow the right shift key to start working again. However, it doesn't fix everything. For example, I notice that I can no longer use a the Alt-F1 keyboard shortcut in IntelliJ IDEA. The only workaround I have found for this is to restart the entire laptop after using any vm in vmware player or just not use Alt-F1 keystroke. I do recall having to do some keyboard mapping a long time ago so that IntelliJ could process Alt-F1 and not Ubuntu itself. Does anyone know if Ubuntu 20.04 magically makes this issue go away? One other thing I remembered. I had a similar but a little different issue some years ago with the "caps lock as extra control key" setting when using synergy. More details here: https://github.com/symless/synergy-core/issues/4658 AFAIK, that issue was never resolved either. ** Bug watch added: github.com/symless/synergy-core/issues #4658 https://github.com/symless/synergy-core/issues/4658 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195982 Title: Shift key (and caps lock) stop working when using VMWare To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/195982/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914889] [NEW] dns timeout didn't result in tempfail
Public bug reported: My mail logs show that OpenDKIM experienced a DNS timeout when validating the DKIM signature on an inbound email, but then accepted the message. As a result the DMARC policy was applied and the message was quarantined. The expected behaviour in the event of a DNS timeout is that it would use the On-DNSError setting, which defaults to tempfail, and would cause the sending MTA to retry at a later time, and when this happened it is expected that the result of the earlier DNS query would be immediately available because it would have been cached by the DNS server, and so the signature would have been successfully verified and therefore would have passed DMARC check (and the email would have been accepted). [Bug 1914884] [NEW] udev tries to assign identical name to multiple network cards
Public bug reported: Upon upgrading from U18.04 to U20.04.2, the network interface names became unpredictable. They could be *any* of eth0, eth1, eth2 and ens2. Further inspection shows error messages like "systemd-udevd: eth1: Failed to rename network interface 3 from 'eth1' to 'ens2': File exists" The installation is plain vanilla; in fact, the system had not been used at all yet. Neither of the files '/lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net- generator.rules', '/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules' or '/lib/udev/rules.d/71-biosdevname.rules' exist. On U18.04, 'ls /sys/class/net' yielded "enp5s0 enp14s0 enp9s0 lo". After the upgrade, it currently shows "ens2 eth0 eth1 lo". For each of these entries, 'udevadm test-builtin net_id $nic 2>/dev/null' gives the following: /sys/class/net/ens2 ID_NET_NAMING_SCHEME=v245 ID_NET_NAME_MAC=enx002481d13e60 ID_OUI_FROM_DATABASE=Hewlett Packard ID_NET_NAME_PATH=enp14s0 ID_NET_NAME_SLOT=ens2 /sys/class/net/eth0 ID_NET_NAMING_SCHEME=v245 ID_NET_NAME_MAC=enx001018b197dc ID_OUI_FROM_DATABASE=Broadcom ID_NET_NAME_PATH=enp5s0 ID_NET_NAME_SLOT=ens2 /sys/class/net/eth1 ID_NET_NAMING_SCHEME=v245 ID_NET_NAME_MAC=enx00101897069a ID_OUI_FROM_DATABASE=Broadcom ID_NET_NAME_PATH=enp9s0 ID_NET_NAME_SLOT=ens2 This seems to be a case where the naming scheme v245 should be replaced by v247, according to https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.net-naming-scheme.html The situation does not change with passing "net.naming-scheme=latest" to the kernel. The installed version of udev is 245.4-4ubuntu3.4. Since this faulty behavior happened completely out of the blue on a practically pristine LTS installation, I hope to have some kind of solution similar to a backport. Thanks for comments! ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: net.naming-scheme udev -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914884 Title: udev tries to assign identical name to multiple network cards To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1914884/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Such that if one installs third-party binaries, on hirsute, one can install libffi7 from the archive, and things should "just work". It would be nice if somebody who is affected could verify that. You can get hirsute trivially with lxd. Or please provide concrete reproducer examples - i.e. specifically which applications, downloaded from where, and installed how would be useful. [Bug 1913284] Re: [plugin] [bcache] add a new bcache plugin
Hi @Eric, Updated the description with SRU. Please let me know if anything needs change/unclear. Thanks. ** Description changed: - A new plugin for bcache stats are proposed upstream [0] and there's a PR - currently under review [1]. + [Impact] + + Gather bcache stats as part of sos report. + + Bcache is often deployed as a "frontend" (typically using SSDs) for Ceph + cluster's with HDDs to improve performance. When we are dealing with + bcache performance or need to debug bcache, these stats are essential to + identify the problem. The newly added plugin collects various stats on + bcache. - [0] https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/2378 - [1] https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/2384 + [Test Case] + + It's a new plugin. When sosreport is run on a system with bcache, a + number of small files from /sys/fs/bcache and /sys/block/bcache should + be collected with this plugin in place. On systems, without bcache, this + should be a no-op. + + + [Where problems could occur] + + Worst case scenarios could be: + - As with any plugin, this plugin, in theory, could potentially run indefinitely and timeout. + - Affect performance when run on a live system. There's one known case where querying the proiorty_stats [0] had such a problem. But it's not collected as part of this plugin. + + But otherwise, the stats collection of bcache devices (even if there are + many bcache devices deployed on a system) shouldn't affect anything on a + live system and shouldn't get anywhere closer to timeout. + + + [Other Info] + + upstream PR (merged): https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/2384 + + + [0] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1840043 ** Summary changed: - [plugin] [bcache] add a new bcache plugin + [SRU] [plugin] [bcache] add a new bcache plugin -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1913284 Title: [SRU] [plugin] [bcache] add a new bcache plugin To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sosreport/+bug/1913284/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914877] [NEW] Stuttering video playback
Public bug reported: Something has regressed recently to cause stuttering video playback. especially at the Cmore.fi. This makes sports broadcasts very uncomfortable to look at. The issue appeared about 1-2 weeks ago, so it is very recent. It used to work fine on this HW for months, but not anymore. It does not depend on the browser, as the issue is the same on Firefox or Chrome. It does not depend on the DE, as KDE Neon suffers from the same issue. I had to install Windows 10, which of course is a tragedy. Posting this report from a 20.04.2 live USB session and the issue is reproduced with this as well. [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
I think it's not what I want to do, mainline and proposed kernels are not the same thing (I think). I would like to install fix to the same kernel version that I'm runing or anything else to avoid problems with nvidia driver on mainline kernel releses. I already reinstalled everything 3 times tampering with this bug and would love not to do it again because I've setup a lot of stuf and dont want to do it again. For now I'm using i2c_standalone workaround but it's not running flawlessly (frequently stucks in scrolling mode or taps stops working...) so I want to test proposed solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887190 Title: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pop-os/+bug/1887190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
>From the command line, I don't know how to do it, I use usually the Mainline Kernel updater's one fork like https://github.com/bkw777/mainline (see installation guide there). You can check the name of the kernels i.e. here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_version_history groovy - 20.10 bionic - 18.04 focal - 20.04 xenial - 16.04 then you install the latest RC version from it, make sure it starts with the same numbers. After a restart, the newest version will run. To see RC you need to go to the Settings and enable prerelease or proposed versions or uncheck Hide unstable RC versions, I don't know the exact name of it. Check #357 when you testing, probably you will face with the same issue, that the right physical click doesn't work as it should be (and some gestures). If that's that case then the test failed, if it works everything properly, then success. How to run the older kernel, that's I don't know, you need to check with google. Also, if you can't search for an issue in google, I suggest to not even try to test it, because RC releases can screw up anything and you may be stuck with a buggy machine that you need to reinstall. Do it on your own risk. I also suggest doing a snapshot with timeshift from your system before you start the process, in case of problem you will be able to restore hopefully to that point your system. [Bug 1914874] [NEW] Wi-Fi sometimes disappears after reboot on AMD Ryzen machine
Public bug reported: I have an HP Omen 15 with AMD Ryzen 7 4800H CPU and GeForce GTX 1660 Ti discrete graphics card, running kubuntu 20.10 with "Ubuntu 5.8.0-41.46-generic 5.8.18" kernel and nvidia proprietery graphics drivers. One of my problems (unfortunately there are a lot) is that every now and then the laptop boots without wifi support. It seems as if the wireless controller does not even exist. I have captured the output of dmesg and lspci in the "good" scenario, i.e. when I do have wifi (which is the most frequent case) and in the "bad" scenario, i.e. when wifi disappears. Please note that I haven't found a way to fix this issue after boot, so I need to reboot the machine in order to get my wifi back, which most of the times works, but sometimes I need to reboot 2 or 3 times before it appears again. I haven't found a pattern yet, it seems pretty random. [Bug 1906628] Re: autopkgtest fails in hirsute(-proposed) on amd64
Currently I am seeing only a failure for i386 at https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/mariadb-10.5 about the installation step, that just says "Depends: mariadb-test:i386 but it is not installable" without further debug info. The i386 test is also failing on mariadb-10.3 across all releases at https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/mariadb-10.3 with a similar error. Older 10.1 and 10.0 dont show (historical) failures: https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/mariadb-10.1 https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/mariadb-10.0 By the way, mariadb-10.3 should be removed from Hisute. It is supposed to ship with MariaDB 10.5 only. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906628 Title: autopkgtest fails in hirsute(-proposed) on amd64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mariadb-10.3/+bug/1906628/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
