[Bug 1923167] Re: Screen flickering- QHD Benq

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try a different cable. If that doesn't solve the problem then
please run these commands:

  lspci -kv > lspci.txt
  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
  xrandr --verbose > xrandr.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

[Bug 1923397] Re: Xorg freeze

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1923381] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T450s] regression: no display when waking from suspend

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. I can see two immediate problems.

The first problem isn't really related to this bug but you should fix it
anyway. Your log is being flooded by crashes in 'onedrive'. If you don't
need 'onedrive' then consider uninstalling it.

The second problem is these messages in your Xorg logs which might be
related to this bug:

[ 87005.338] [dix] EventToCore: Not implemented yet
[ 87131.437] [dix] EventToCore: Not implemented yet
[ 87283.009] [dix] EventToCore: Not implemented yet

Next we would like to see a system log of the problem happening so
please:

1. Reproduce the bug again such that the machine is unresponsive.

2. Wait 30 seconds.

3. Do a "hard reboot".

4. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

5. Attach the resulting text file here.

6. Follow these instructions to check for crashes:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

[Bug 1861554] Re: Radeon mobility HD3450 (RV620) heavy screen flickering after trying to upgrade kernel 4.15.0-54

2021-04-11 Thread G. de Pusone
I have the same issue on a Dell Studio 15 with Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 and ATI
Mobility Radeon HD 3450.
Tired of Win7 I tried last weekend to install various linux distros without
success.
A friend of mine, after reading this #1861554 bug gave me a pendrive with
Ubuntu distro 16.04.1 (LTS) with kernel 4.15.0-54-generic and it worked
flawlessly.
All releases and distros after that date are useless on my laptop.

[Bug 1922839] Re: Opening new tab in gnome-terminal launched from nautilus loses most environment variables

2021-04-11 Thread Matthew Ruffell
It seems the revert for "screen: Use clean env when creating new tab" is
already in 3.38.1, and I checked the Ubuntu source package, and the
revert is in place.

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
terminal/-/commit/16bd9f6a4181d37af2769e7ca5a1f9a1211cfaac

Interesting.

I might try a test build which reverts the revert and see how that goes,
since that matches the case on Groovy.

[Bug 1916250] Re: gir1.2-signon-2.0 needs to declare replace on older releases (Groovy2Hirsute)

2021-04-11 Thread Robie Basak
Looks like this conflicting file started shipping in an Ubuntu delta
1.4-0ubuntu1 in Quantal, and Debian never shipped it in
gir1.2-signon-1.0 - only in gir1.2-signon-2.0. So this is an Ubuntu-
specific problem.

[Bug 1891768] Re: hfs+ filesystems fail reading / writing large files

2021-04-11 Thread Juerg Haefliger
If we find a problem in Ubuntu that has not already been fixed in the
latest upstream kernel then we'll try to fix it ourselves and send the
patch upstream. But most of the time we backport already existing
upstream fixes to affected Ubuntu kernels.

The process of finding the fix for a specific problem is:
1) Find the first kernel version that works (good kernel).
2) Look at the changes between the previous (bad) and the good kernel.
3) If nothing jumps out that might indicate which commit fixed the problem: git
bisect to narrow it further down.

But typically, if a user reports that a specific problem has been fixed
with a kernel update then that's good enough for us even without knowing
exactly which specific commit fixed it. Sometimes there are a lot of
upstream changes that we pull into an update.

It's the distros responsibilities to keep their kernels up-to-date and
every distro does it differently. Ubuntu updates kernels every 3 weeks
(roughly): https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

[Bug 1917609] Re: [Regression] ubuntu_bpf failed to build on Groovy

2021-04-11 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Nice catch on that cause 670b0872ad88 ("UBUNTU: SAUCE: selftests:
Skip BPF seftests by default"), in which we make the bpf subset as
a default skip target by default. (This explained why this works in comment #13)

I prefer to keep TARGETS=bpf and add an empty SKIP_TARGETS= to the
make command to override the default value, so that we can still
align with how we start a kernel-selftests subset (like in the
ubuntu_kernel_selftests).

e.g.
utils.make('-C linux/tools/testing/selftests TARGETS=bpf SKIP_TARGETS= clean
all')

A SKIP_TARGETS= might be helpful for pepole to know this is for
overriding the default value as well.

Thanks
Sam

[Bug 1923398] [NEW] steam client window all black

2021-04-11 Thread elguavas
Public bug reported:

in hirsute (21.04) steam (steam/hirsute 1:1.0.0.68-1ubuntu1) displays
it's client window as completely black, with no visible contents.

if started from a console the line:

.steam/ubuntu12_64/steamwebhelper.sh: line 23:

[Bug 1923361] Re: unable to link xdr functions with groovy and hirsute

2021-04-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to write up this report and helping to
make Ubuntu better.

It's not clear to me if this is expected behaviour or not. Perhaps the
easiest way to determine this would be to track down the root cause of
what's happening with the xdr_void symbol by examining the libtirpc
sources.

However as this isn't likely to affect many Ubuntu users, I'm going to
set Importance: Low. I don't expect it to receive expert attention soon.
Feel free to continue to use this bug to coordinate with others, and if
you do find a specific solution then we can help with getting it landed.

In case it's not a bug, you can find community support options here:

[Bug 1823516] Re: Nvidia driver installed but X apps are using software rendering (LLVMpipe) in Wayland sessions

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Fix landed in Xorg 1.21:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=38e875904b039ec1889e7c81eb1d577a4f69b26d&utm_source=anzwix

But it's not yet in the separate Xwayland branch *and* it supposedly
requires Nvidia driver 470. So we're probably waiting for Ubuntu 21.10.

[Bug 1882411] Re: lubuntu monitor settings touching screens with gap between

2021-04-11 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu hirsute live QA-test on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400
pro/xt)

box originally filed with. During my actual QA-test I didn't notice any
issues, and I left the box sitting idle still running..

a (ask ubu) support question (related to 1366x768 displays) had me go to
this box (as it has a 1024x768) and perform various setting tasks...
those caused this issue to re-occur.

left-monitor is landscape & right-monitor is portrait as normal, and
show as connected in monitor.settings, but there is a obvious gap (delay
when you move pointer between two displays), or if you drag a window so
it appears on both displays the middle of the window is not seen...

I added xfwm4 & switched out openbox; logged out & logged in many times
using both openbox & xfwm4 & issue still occurred (no changes to
monitor.position which look perfect within that setting).

as I've experienced this issue before, and have worked around it I'll
ignore..still occurring :(

[Bug 1922509] Re: ssh doesn't work after stoping all open-vpn services

2021-04-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1882413] Re: lxqt-panel menu opening in wrong place

2021-04-11 Thread Chris Guiver
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1810075 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810075

I did some play (comment #7)
Note: landscape (with panel) & portrait monitors

- logout & login and issue still OCCURS
- installed `xfwm4` & switched to that
- logout & login & so now using `xfwm4` & issue is GONE, however the panel is
now on the portrait monitor so it's not the same...
- i forced panel to other (landscape on left) display and issue still does not
occur
- switched back to `openbox`, logout & login again
- issue is NOT occurring now here either...

this was repeated a few times and I could not get issue to re-occur...
(like it never does on my primary box).

This issue is of low importance in my opinion, hard to get it to occur
(chance) & then it won't generally re-occur like now for me. It'll be
heard for devs to find, confirm let alone fix.

This issue was NOT discovered during my actual QA-test, but subsequent
when I used the box for support purposes (askubu question relating to
1366x768 displays; this box is closest with a 1024x768 display..., this
issue doesn't relate to support question)

** actual results

Clicking on menu, the menu is opening far away from the panel (on other
display).

Panel is on on landscape left-monitor (menu button far left), yet menu
is appearing on right-monitor (portrait).

Bug fits https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-
panel/+bug/1809205 but I've now marked that as incomplete as it's old
(disco).

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The NVIDIA driver hasn't changed since 2021-04-02 so it was probably a
different package that broke things. Most likely the proposed kernel
version 5.11.0-14.15-generic you are running. Less likely caused by the
Xorg 2:1.20.10-3ubuntu7 update.

Hi @yc, @mario,

After enabling lvfs-testing channel, fwupdmgr can update synaptic's fp device
successfully.
If this is the testing steps we expected, then I'll change tag to

[Bug 1923390] [NEW] NVidia driver updates installed "manually" by system did not recognize my RTX 3060

2021-04-11 Thread Chris Hermansen
Public bug reported:

Saturday night at about 03:00 UTC I noticed that an update to my system
(Hirsute / 21.04) would no longer properly work with my NVidia RTX 3060;
I was left in very low resolution mode. When I ran Additional Drivers,
the screen indicated that I had manually installed graphics drivers and
I could not select the official and tested NVidia drivers. I am
assuming these "manually" installed drivers were a part of a system
update as I did nothing to install any drivers on my own.

I found a suggestion to run "apt purge nvdia-\*", which I did. When I
rebooted, I was able to select the "Using NVIDIA driver metapackage from
nvidia-driver-460 (proprietary, tested), and my screen resolution and
general behaviour seemed fine from that point on.

In case it doesn't come through in the uploaded files, here are the
lines from /var/log/dpkg.log relating to my purge:

[Bug 1923153] Re: Display output laggy from iGPU when operating on desktop with attaching AMD R7 430 graphic (dGPU)

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The attachments only show radeon and amdgpu, but at the top of the bug
you said it happens with i915 too. I wonder if you could please verify
that, and if it happens with i915 then please attach data from that
machine:

  lspci -kv > lspci2.txt
  journalctl -b0 > journal2.txt

If we can see the same bug occurring with i915 then we might be able to
exclude one of the AMD drivers and would be left with only a single
driver to blame then...

[Bug 1922540] Re: Display orientation resets on reboot with USB-C (DisplayPort) external monitor and refresh rate dropdown disappears when setting it sometimes

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. That indeed confirms the 99.98Hz mode has suddenly gone missing
in the last attachment. The system seems to be treating that as a
different monitor configuration and will revert to defaults (which is
landscape and 59.97Hz).

When this happens though, the monitor's EDID does not change. It still
reports the 99.98Hz mode exists:

Detailed mode: Clock 543.500 MHz, 797 mm x 333 mm
   3440 3488 3520 3600 ( 48 32 80)
   1440 1443 1453 1510 ( 3 10 57)
   +hsync -vsync
VertFreq: 99.982 Hz, HorFreq: 150.972 kHz

So if the mode exists but is not offered as an option then that suggests
the kernel or driver thinks there's not enough bandwidth or a good
enough connection to support that particular mode. Therefore, please try
a different monitor cable.

** Summary changed:

- Display orientation resets on reboot with USB-C (DisplayPort) external
monitor and refresh rate dropdown disappears when setting it sometimes
+ 99.98Hz display mode is sometimes missing on USB-C (DisplayPort) external

Interesting. Though Plymouth probably shouldn't be running at all by the
time you type a password into the login screen. If it's not running then
that's probably not the cause.

[Bug 1923332] Re: I don't know

2021-04-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Your "video card" appears to be an integrated Intel GPU. There is no
driver to install for Intel, it's always installed.

But I notice you have booted in recovery mode with the "recovery
nomodeset" kernel parameters. Those parameters will disable the graphics
driver. You just need to boot in normal mode, not recovery mode.

[Bug 1923384] [NEW] [Dell Precision M3800, Realtek ALC3661, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2021-04-11 Thread rob from ottawa
Public bug reported:

When I run Alsamixer, there seem to be two cards, the first of which is
HDA Intel HDMI, so my initial thought was that the wrong sound port must
be selected by default, but wgen I use F6, to select "HDA Intel PCH",
Card Realtek ALC3661, I still cannot get the internal speakers to
produce sound. Note that the headphone jack does work.

[Bug 1923383] [NEW] Issue with L1ARC for uncompressed datasets

2021-04-11 Thread BertN45
Public bug reported:

I have done some testing with Ubuntu 21.04 and OpenZFS. I mostly run
Virtual Machines and I noticed a huge difference in performance between
the VM disk IO, between the same VM stored on a lz4 compressed dataset
and on an uncompressed dataset. The difference in the VM disk throughput
is a factor 40 to 90 dependent on the type of disk IO test. My host OS
was Ubuntu 21.04 and the Guest has been Windows 7 using
ChrystalDiskMark.

Looking at the the size of L1ARC that I monitored with Conky, that L1ARC
size did not change, when I used the VM on an uncompressed dataset. It
only flipped say ~100 MB during running that VM, so it showed 3.26 GB
and seconds later 3.15 GB and it always flipped between these two
values. The hosts had space enough free to increase the L1ARC. My wild
guess was that the L1ARC has not been used, only the small part for
uncompressed records. Maybe it is a bug, maybe a feature or maybe
something else.

I have a detailed description in the next discourse:
https://discourse.destinationlinux.network/t/ubuntu-21-04-and-bleeding-
edge-openzfs-2-0/3621/3

The interesting part is the third entry and for some context the first
and second entries.

[Bug 1923380] [NEW] virt-viewer crashes in Wayland session - kvm-qemu

2021-04-11 Thread tea for one
Public bug reported:

Terminal output as follows:-

(virt-viewer:17150): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 22:30:44.680:
gdk_wayland_window_set_dbus_properties_libgtk_only: assertion
'GDK_IS_WAYLAND_WINDOW (window)' failed
Killed

I expected virt-viewer to display the grapical console of my vm, but it
crashed as indicated by the terminal output.

Ubuntu 20.04
Gnome Shell 3.36.7
virt-viewer 7.0-2build1
/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64
virtual machine manager 2.2.1

Using the built in graphical console of virtual machine manager in a
wayland session, the display is fine but full screen display is missing,
hence the requirement for virt-viewer.

Virt-viewer is perfect in an X11 session
