[Bug 1770417] Re: Qemu can not parse long fqdns during drive-mirror

2021-05-01 Thread Thomas Huth
The QEMU project is currently considering to move its bug tracking to
another system. For this we need to know which bugs are still valid
and which could be closed already. Thus we are setting older bugs to
"Incomplete" now.

If you still think this bug report here is valid, then please switch
the state back to "New" within the next 60 days, otherwise this report
will be marked as "Expired". Or please mark it as "Fix Released" if
the problem has been solved with a newer version of QEMU already.

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

Yes, I have other things segfaulting with libc-2.31.so as well but
ubuntu-bug would not allow me to originate a bug report on a library.

[Bug 1926861] Re: mcs7780 USB IrDA missing from 5.4 and newer kernels

2021-05-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1926861/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1926865] [NEW] During OS install, GRUB tries installing on sda even when it should install on sdb

2021-05-01 Thread Mark A Gerads
Public bug reported:

I tried installing Ubuntu on my dad's laptop, but the installer failed to
install GRUB.
I noticed it was trying to install GRUB on /dev/sda even though the EFI
partition and the Ubuntu root partition were both on /dev/sdb
I suggest that instead of hard-coding the Ubuntu installer to install on
/dev/sda, the Ubuntu installer should dynamically detect the drive which has
the EFI partition and install GRUB on that drive.

[Bug 1926672] Re: ubiquity-gtk installer crashes in focal 20.04.02 after partitioning due to existing EFI partition

2021-05-01 Thread Pablo Hörtner
Okay, having a closer look at the uploaded logs I just noticed the
timestamp in syslog (20 December without year), so those logs are really
old (probably from 2018) and misleading. Maybe apport uploaded logs from
an older crash? In any case, the bug is still there. I will try again
with 20.04 and 20.10, collect the logs and upload them here. Sorry for
the confusion!

[Bug 1926862] [NEW] Unable to exit Activities Overview in Ubuntu 21.04

2021-05-01 Thread PJSingh5000
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 21.04, after entering the Activities Overview by clicking on
Activities, by using the hot corner, or by pressing the Super key, the
user is not able to exit the Activities Overview and return to the
Desktop.

The user can still open or close applications, or move applications to
different work spaces, but the user can not interact with open
applications or return to the normal GNOME desktop.

This issue occurs randomly.

The only remedy is to logout, restart gnome shell with Alt-F2, R if
using  Xorg.

This affects:

[Bug 1926860] [NEW] XP Pen Star 03 Grafiktable not running on Ubuntu later than 18.04

2021-05-01 Thread Tino
Public bug reported:

The XP Pen Star 03 graphics tablet worked on Ubuntu 18.04 but is no
longer working in any other Version of Ubuntu released afterwards.

I tested 20.04 and am currently running 21.04. it is recognized but in
the system settings it says not tablet and not stylus found.

The terminal gives me the info that the UC-Logic TABLET 1060N is
plugged in. In the system settings it shows "Wacom Tablet" but says not
tablet and stylus pen are recognized.

It works perfectly fine on my 18.04 install.

I found a few reports on the internet with the exact same issue. They
installed some evdev driver and somehow managed to resolve. I was not
able to do so yet.

If the tablet used to work out of the box with Ubuntu 18.04 I wonder why
it is no longer working.

There is also a XP Pen Star 03 V2 by now. The tablet look identical but
the hardware or firmware must be different.

[Bug 1926861] [NEW] mcs7780 USB IrDA missing from 5.4 and newer kernels

2021-05-01 Thread Linuxslate
Public bug reported:

IrDA modules, including mcs7780.ko are missing.

Currently using:
Linux * 5.4.0-72-generic #80-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 12 17:35:00 UTC 2021 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The module is present in older versions of Ubuntu, in
/lib/modules/[kernel version]/kernel/drivers/net/irda/mcs7780.ko

Is there another module that currently supports USB IrDA devices with
this chip? Has it moved?

lsmod
Bus 001 Device 013: ID 9710:7780 MosChip Semiconductor MCS7780 4Mbps Fast IrDA
Adapter

It's very unusual to see a Linux Dist drop support like this with no way
back (short of building a new kernel).

Apologies if I am just missing something.

[Bug 1926816] Re: Computer does not shut down

2021-05-01 Thread PJSingh5000
I was able to get my computer to reliably shutdown by doing two things:

 1. Update the intramfs:

$ sudo update-initramfs -u

I'm not sure why this was necessary, since I have the default 21.04
kernel:

5.11.0-16-generic

 2. Add `acpi=force` to /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force
modprobe.blacklist=nouveau"

...and update grub:

$ sudo update-grub

I'm not sure why this is necessary, since I have a newer BIOS.
This has never been necessary for prior versions of Ubuntu.
Nevertheless, my laptop will consistently not shut down without this
parameter.

2021-05-01 Thread PJSingh5000
I was able to capture a journalctl logs for a *successful* shutdown.

In this log, I see the same GDM error:

gdm.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
gdm.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'

Therefore, I must conclude that GDM is not the culprit in the shutdown
problem reported in this bug.

[Bug 1926855] Re: Raspberry Pi: desktop forgets audio device selected after reboot

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1926855/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2021-05-01 Thread osman d
According to "https://blog.bramp.net/post/2012/04/29/failed-ubuntu-
update/" I have found Broken package is "python-is-python2". I have
tried "apt-get remove python-is-python2" but couldnt find the package
and decided to run "apt-get remove python2*" it removed "python-minimal,
python2.7, python2.7-minimal" it looks like solved.

[Bug 1926672] Re: ubiquity-gtk installer crashes in focal 20.04.02 after partitioning due to existing EFI partition

2021-05-01 Thread Pablo Hörtner
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected hirsute oem-config wayland-session

** Description changed:

  In focal 20.04.02 the ubiquity-gtk installer (20.04.15.11/focal-updates)
always crashes after the partition step.

Although this seems to be an old bug, I could not find a relevant bug
  report so far.

I am having this issue when installing Ubuntu 20.04 to removable media
from an existing Ubuntu 20.04 system. I could reproduce the issue on a
PC in UEFI mode and on another one in BIOS mode. Before reporting this
bug, I tested the installer on both Live USB media and internal disks.

  How to reproduce?

  1. The install medium needs to be writable (i.e. no CD/DVD) and contain a
mounted EFI partition (e.g. /dev/sda1), while the target presumably needs to be
a removable medium or a secondary disk.
  2. sudo --preserve-env=DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS,XDG_RUNTIME_DIR sh -c
'ubiquity gtk_ui'
  3. In the ubiquity installer create a GPT partition on the target medium
(e.g. /dev/sdb) containing an EFI partition (e.g. /dev/sdb1) and a root
partition (e.g. /dev/sdb2), and set the Grub target ("boot disk") accordingly.
  4. The installer will ask for confirmation, stating that the partition table
of both disks will change and that the two newly created partitions will be
formatted. In case of an existing swap partition on the primary disk, this
partition will also be formatted (which I consider another bug).
  5. After the crash, you can notice that
 a. the new system has been partially installed, as /target (e.g.
/dev/sdb2) is mounted and contains 329 MB
 b. the EFI partition of the install medium or primary disk (e.g.
/dev/sda1) has been unmounted from /boot/efi and remounted to /target/boot/efi
 c. the target EFI partition (e.g. /dev/sdb1) has been created and
formatted, but is unmounted and empty.

  $ cat /target/etc/fstab
  # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
  #
  # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
  # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
  # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).

[Bug 1926672] Re: ubiquity-gtk installer crashes in focal 20.04.02 after partitioning due to existing EFI partition

2021-05-01 Thread Pablo Hörtner
It just says that the initial install of my system was done with 18.10.
Distro release is Ubuntu 20.04. This is my desktop system, as I wanted
to confirm that the error does not only happen when installing from a
removable media to another removable media, but also when installing
from disk to removable media. I know that ubiquity is not intended to
run from a normal desktop system, but as I said this was only for
testing after having experienced the issue on several installs.

Additionally, I have just tested this with Ubuntu hirsute 21.04 (stable
live iso), and I am experiencing the same issue (with ubiquity
21.04.19). I have also tested whether there is a difference if I boot
into the installer directly from Grub, but it is just the same as
booting into live mode first and then manually starting ubiquity.

This seems somehow dangerous, as it may break a current EFI
installation. The crash directory inside install-logs-2021-05-02.0 is
empty, so I cannot send you a stacktrace. I took some bad fotos of the
error (in German), in case this helps.

Is there a simple install script then for non-technical users as i'm

fsprotect you just installed it and added a command to grub , systemd
overlay is more complex and needs dracut?

[Bug 1909171] Re: sddm-greeter segfault

2021-05-01 Thread Remy
Yes seems to be.
Did you try to downgrade the mesa driver to an older version ? Mine was 20.0.8
before the crashing update came.
It seems that the Focal Fossa LTS is locked to 20.0.4-2... So maybe if we just
downgrade to either of these versions we'll get our login screen back !

For now, I do not have the computer at hand so I cannot try that
myself...

[Bug 1926855] [NEW] Raspberry Pi: desktop forgets audio device selected after reboot

2021-05-01 Thread andrum99
Public bug reported:

Hirsute 21.04 Raspberry Pi on Pi 4B 4GB

Audio output device defaults to 'Headphones - Built-in Audio': this is
the AV jack. Settings also lists 'Digital Output (S/PDIF) - Built-in
Audio' which is HDMI, and I can get audio from it correctly. However,
this setting is not saved, and on reboot it defaults back to 'Headphones

2021-05-01 Thread gunwald

GPU: AMD ATI 03:00.0 Renoir
Model: Acer Swift 3 (SF314-42-R2UX)

2021-05-01 Thread Lars Martin Hambro

Its not easy to set default folder for find files.

saving config in /home/larsmartin/.local/share/chocolate-doom/default.cfg
Game mode indeterminate. No IWAD file was found. Try
specifying one with the '-iwad' command line parameter.

[Bug 1926845] [NEW] Unable to store nvidia-settings

2021-05-01 Thread Jens Elkner
Public bug reported:

Since focal a casual unprivileged user cannot save the current X Server
Display Configuration, no matter which location is used. I.e. even for
e.g. /tmp/xorg.conf or /home/$LOGNAME/xorg.conf the user gets asked for
the root password.

This really stupid '"AUTHENTICATING FOR com.ubuntu.screen-resolution-
extra.root-display" "Authenticating as: root"' bug needs to be fixed. An
unprivileged user should be able to store the config wherever he wants
to, as long as he has write permission for the related file/directory.

** Affects: nvidia-settings (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Package changed: nvidia-settings-updates (Ubuntu) => nvidia-settings
(Ubuntu)
