[Bug 1930113] Re: incorrect size for large files due to possible use of 32 bits instead of 64 bits variable

2021-05-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1930113/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1930077] Re: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-05-28 Thread Sai Vinoba
This also affects UM 21.04. Possibly others.

Also, this happens with both Secure Boot on as well off. I read bugs
#1928434 and #1925010 but they were upgrades and fresh installation
worked. In my case installation itself is failing.

On UM though, even after installed showed failed message, I went ahead
and choose the new entry from Grub menu (of another install) but the
screen stays on UM logo. Using text mode shows some sort of kernel panic
or unable to mount message which I could not capture.

[Bug 1929864] Re: The Desktop Selection and Size Pull Downs Ceased Working

2021-05-28 Thread Robert Dinse
I do not know what package x2goclient requires that is not in the
dependencies list, but that is the issue. I checked to make sure all
the declared dependencies were installed, they were but it did not work.
I then compared packages in a working system to the system it did not
work in and there were about 1500 not installed on the non-working
machine, so I installed about 100 at a time and about 500 packages into
it got it working. Because I did 100 or so at a time, I do not know
which specific package it needed and I do not have time to troubleshoot
further. So you can close this or if you have some ideas for
efficiently pursuing it (installing and uninstalling 1500 packages one
at a time not efficient) I'll do what I can to help but I don't have
time to uninstall and install one at a time.

[Bug 1930113] Re: incorrect size for large files due to possible use of 32 bits instead of 64 bits variable

2021-05-28 Thread Xavier Kral
Possible hint:
It seems that the reported/displayed size matches the value of a 64 bits value
truncated to 32 bits:

expected dec: 108843801799 (correct)
expected hex: 19 5798 9CC7 (correct)

displayed dec: 1469619399 (incorrect)
displayed hex: 5798 9CC7 (incorrect)

** Summary changed:

- ls command reports incorrect file size for large files
+ incorrect size for large files due to possible use of 32 bits instead of 64
bits variable

** Description changed:

Large files are reported incorrectly when using the 'ls' command
- The expected size should 102G instead, it reports 1402M or 2G
+ The expected size should 102G instead, instead it reports 1402M or 2G as if
the size was limited to 2G (32 bits).

[Bug 1930113] Re: ls command reports incorrect file size for large files

2021-05-28 Thread Xavier Kral
The exact same file has completely different sizes depending on the
options used with the 'ls' command. This issue does not happen with XFS,
EXT4, ZFS, F2FS and other file systems.

[Bug 1918008] Re: 2 network icons on taskbar - Lubuntu 18.04.5

2021-05-28 Thread Chris Guiver
If you need support, I suggest you ask on a support site (see
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709)

If you note the bug you referenced in your last comment (#8), the MATE
issue was fixed in hirsute; or what was the then development release
(21.04 now) listing the package containing the fix. That fix is unlikely
to be back-ported to focal but will exist in future releases (the
package used by hirsute is also current in impish) though note I didn't
examine to confirm.

I dealt with a support issue days ago and installed LXDE on a box (I
think it was a 20.04.3 QA-test install I used; but I forget) and it all
looked good to me (but this wasn't the issue I was exploring..) That
system was replaced with a impish QA-test install yesterday though.

[Bug 1930111] [NEW] [MIR] new dependencies of cherrypy3: jaraco.collections, jaraco.classes, jaraco.text, python-cheroot, python-jaraco.functools, python-tempora, python-portend, zc.lockfile

2021-05-28 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

[Availability]
All packages are already in universe, and in sync with Debian.
They are all architecture independent.
jaraco.classes, jaraco.collections is new to Debian & Ubuntu (currently only in
experimental), and portend and jaraco.functools are relatively new, since 2019
cheroot and zc.lockfile have been in Debian & Ubuntu for many years.

[Rationale]
Dependencies of the new cherrypy3 18.6.0-1 release.

[Security]
No security issues ever reported for any of these libraries.

[Quality assurance]
All the packages are simple Python libraries, no configuration or debconf
questions.
No open bugs in Debian or Ubuntu.
jaraco.classes, jaraco.collections, jaraco.functools, jaraco.text, portend,
tempora, and zc.lockfiles's test suites are run at build time.
cheroot's test suite is not run at build time, due to missing dependencies in
the archive (jaraco.context).
No significant lintian issues, although jaraco.functools, portend, tempora and
zc.lockfile could fix some obvious trivial issues.

[Dependencies]
This issue is for a set of dependencies for cherrypy3

[Standards compliance]
Packages are simple python libraries, installed to the correct locations, and
lintian clean (except old standards versions, compats, etc.)

[Maintenance]
All packages seem relatively well maintained upstream, and are a few years old
at this point.
jaraco.classes, jaraco.collections, jaraco.functools, ported, and tempora have
0 open issues and pull requests, upstream.
chreroot has tens of open issues and pull requests, but the project hasn't
stagnated, it just seems to be being actively developed.
zc.lockfile has seen no commits since 2019, but doesn't have issues and PRs
piling up.

[Bug 1921643] Re: Thunderbolt docking station drops USB

2021-05-28 Thread Viktor
I tested with https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.12/amd64/ for a few (5-6) hours (sorry I don't use
desktop linux much at all now days), dmesg is still full of errors like
these:

[ 2852.594018] xhci_hcd :3c:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part
of current TD ep_index 1 comp_code 1
[ 2852.594051] xhci_hcd :3c:00.0: Looking for event-dma 0001ed2ad1d0

seg-end 0001ed2adff0
[ 2854.671891] usb 5-2.4.1: reset full-speed USB device number 8 using xhci_hcd

So far it did not drop the usb controller, so that's good. 5-2.4.1 is a
wireless receiver for my mouse, if I plug it in directly to the machine
it does not throw this error, but in the dock this message occurs every
few minutes. It was plugged into the same physical port when I used the
previous kernel and this error message did not occur.

[Bug 1930110] [NEW] Wake-up after suspend only on second keypress

2021-05-28 Thread Jürgen Böhm
Public bug reported:

My computer is a HP Z240 tower workstation, Ubuntu version:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
Release:18.04

I can and do suspend my computer by pressing Fn-Key + F1-key on the HP
keyboard. The F1 key is marked with a crescent moon to indicate this
functionality. The suspend state is indicated by a blinking led on the
computer case.

>From 16.04 I was used, that in suspend state any keypress on the
keyboard would wake up the computer again immediately: The screen would
(if turned on) display what was last visible when suspend was executed
through the abovementioned function key. The led on the computer case
would light steadily.

Now a keypress on the suspended computer leads to a short activation of
the harddisk, the led on the computer case will light steadily but the
monitor (also if on) remains dark. After about 2-5 seconds the harddisk
stands still again, the computer becomes silent and the led on the
computer case is blinking again, as in suspend mode. I presume the
computer is now again in suspend mode.

When this state is reached, a second keypress leads to a correct awake
from suspend, the harddisk spins, the led on the case lights steadily
and the monitor displays what is expected. The computer can then be used
as expected.

Note: I have 64 GByte of RAM and only 32GB Swap partition, so I presume
(and hope) that hibernation (RAM to Disk) plays no role here, only
suspend and wake-up from suspend.

[Bug 1930103] Re: isc-dhcp-server overwrites /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server during update

2021-05-28 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Milan, I just tested an upgrade:

Unpacking isc-dhcp-server (4.4.1-2.1ubuntu5.20.04.2) over
(4.4.1-2.1ubuntu5) ...

and my /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server modifications had been left in
place.

The maintainer scripts will create a new one if the file cannot be read:
https://sources.debian.org/src/isc-dhcp/4.4.1-2.2/debian/isc-dhcp-server.postinst/#L33

(Debian sources, but Ubuntu's are very similar.)

Is it possible your old /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server could not be read?

Thanks

[Bug 1918008] Re: 2 network icons on taskbar - Lubuntu 18.04.5

I found this is similar issue like in bug #1761606. This issue I have in
Lubuntu 18.04.5 installed on my hard drive. Like you said Lubuntu
18.04.5 is EOL now so this bug probably will be not fixed.

I have question. If I will install LXDE metapackage on focal this mean that
lxpanel have still support and this bug can be fixed on focal package for LXDE
environment?

[Bug 1664844] Re: No distinction between link-up and link-down interfaces

2021-05-28 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Since very long, we had a feature request in netplan to determine the
activation mode of a given network interface. We got requests to enable
marking some interfaces as 'manual', meaning that networkd (or any other
backend) would not control its state in any way, requiring the
administrator to bring the interface up or down manually. The other
request was to mark a interface as 'off', that is: forcing the network
interface to always be down until the configuration option isn't
  changed.

This was mainly requested for the networkd backend and requires the new
feature of specifying ActivationPolicy= for interfaces, alongside the
  required netplan changes.

This feature is present in systemd 248 - for netplan supported stable
series we have decided to cherry-pick and backport this feature on top
of current systemd. The networkd feature basically adds the following 5
ActivationPolicy modes: always-down, down, manual, up, always-up. For
netplan purposes we only use 'always-down' and 'manual'.

The netplan feature, hopefully landing as part of 0.103, is called
'activation-mode' and supports two values: 'manual' and 'off'.

  [Test Case]

  For the systemd part:

   * Bring up a VM test environment with either a dummy interface or an
interface that can be safely manipulated.
   * Upgrade systemd to the -proposed version
   * For the target interface, create/modify the networkd configuration to
include the ActivationPolicy= setting in [Link], for instance:

  [Match]
  Name=dummy0

  [Network]
  Address=192.168.10.30/24
  Gateway=192.168.10.1

  [Link]
  ActivationPolicy=manual

   * Try all 5 combinations of ActivationPolicy values: always-down, down,
manual, up, always-up - doing `sudo networkctl reload` everytime and
checking if the interface behaves as expected.

  [Where problems could occur]

The patchset modifies quite a lot of code in the networkd link handling
code paths, so regressions could appear in how networkd manages links -
maybe by suddenly certain interfaces not getting brought up as they were
- before.
+ before. By code inspection, the implementation defaults to
+ ACTIVATION_POLICY_UP as the default, equivalent to the current behavior,
+ so this risk is small.

  ---

  [Original Description]

  [Old Impact]
Users need to write valid configuration, especially for new features that are
approved by not yet implemented, such as marking a link "optional".

  [Old Test case]
  Write a netplan configuration:

  network:
    version: 2
    renderer: networkd
    ethernets:
  eth0:
    optional: yes
    dhcp4: yes

And run 'netplan apply'. Netplan should write configuration for the link
and not error out with a syntax error.

  [Old Regression potential]
This has a minimal potential for regression: the new keyword was added to be
supported already by consumers of netplan (users, cloud-init) so that they
could start writing config with the new key and that configuration to be seen
as valid by netplan before the backend is implemented. There is no functional
change besides allowing for the value to exist in a netplan configuation.

  ---

If I define an interface in netplan (even one which has no DHCP type and
no addresses), it's not possible to determine if its adminStatus should
be enabled (link up) or disabled (link down).

I can completely exclude an interface from the netplan configuration,
but I think that implies that not only its adminStatus is "disabled" by
default, but also netplan will not be able to do anything "nice" for the
interface, such as rename it to what the user specified in MAAS.

If I include the interface but don't specify any addresses or DHCP, it
isn't clear if it will be link up (my current assumption) or link down.

There should be a way to allow an interface to be recognized by netplan
(and even partially configured, waiting for the user to run something
like 'ifup ' on a manual but not auto-started interface in
ifupdown), but marked administratively disabled. (adminStatus down)

[Bug 1795483] Re: Experimental setting to enable fractional Hi-DPI scaling offers no option larger than 200% on 15.6 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel display (Dell XPS 15 9575)

2021-05-28 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+
  On my laptop's 15.6 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel (282 PPI) display, the
- available scaling options in the gnome-control-center (version:
- 1:3.30.0-0ubuntu1, on Cosmic) display settings are limited to 100, 200,
- 300, and 400%. This is insufficient as 200% is too small and 300% is too
- large. The missing fractional scaling options are dealt with in bug
- #1687246. However, the currently available experimental feature to
- enable fractional scaling (provided in the bug description of #1687246)
- does not solve the problem on my machine:
+ available scaling options in the gnome-control-center display settings
+ are limited to 100, 200, 300, and 400%. This is insufficient as 200% is
+ too small and 300% is too large. The missing fractional scaling options
+ are dealt with in bug #1687246. However, the currently available
+ experimental feature to enable fractional scaling (provided in the bug
+ description of #1687246) does not solve the problem on my machine:

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
  framebuffer']"

After applying and rebooting, the options offered change to 100, 125,
150, 175, and 200%. Note that there is no value larger than 200% which
is too small on this display at least for me.

In addition, the 25% steps enabled by the experimental option seem too
far apart. With 200%, I am using a font scaling value in Gnome Tweaks of
1.20, so I suppose a fractional scaling of approx 240% would be
  equivalent.

In bug #1687246, Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) advised to open a new bug for
gnome-control-center and added that "gnome-control-center seems to limit
the scale to 200% on some machines, 300% on others. And I think I have
seen 400% offered in some cases. I don't know why, but the inconsistency
  is definitely annoying."

- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ In a setup with a display with HighDPi resolution (higher than 2880x1800)
+ - Open gnome-control-center display panel
+ - Scaling should show 5 level buttons to select
+ - Selecting higher values will show all the selectable values closer to the
chosen one
+ - Any value could be used from 100% up to 400% (maximum varies on resolution)
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Control center won't show any scaling value, or scaling value may be
+ wrong.

[Bug 1795483] Re: Experimental setting to enable fractional Hi-DPI scaling offers no option larger than 200% on 15.6 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel display (Dell XPS 15 9575)

2021-05-28 Thread Treviño
While I'm fixing this upstream to show all the values and we're SRUing
it to ubuntu stable versions, I've made a ppa for hisute (21.04) and
focal (20.04) so you can test it (packages are building right now, so
may take some moments):

https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4565/

Note: since it's preferable not to change design in a SRU, the values
will be still limited to 5 and will shoe exactly like before, but now
selecting higher values, more scaling values will be visible and
selectable.

[Bug 1930103] [NEW] isc-dhcp-server overwrites /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server during update

2021-05-28 Thread Milan Kerslager
Public bug reported:

Today unattended upgrade of ISC DHCPD overwrite config file /etc/default
/isc-dhcp-server and set wrong interface where daemon have to listen
(eno2 instead of br0 as was set before update).

I see no backup file of original config file so I had to investigate

[Bug 1905387] Re: samba-common-bin should call systemd-tmpfiles before testparm

2021-05-28 Thread Athos Ribeiro
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

The samba-common-bin postinst script relies on the presence of the
/run/samba directory. This directory will not be available unless samba-
common-bin is installed right after samba-common, whose postinst script
  creates /run/samba. Although samba-common-bin Depends on samba-common,
reducing the risk of an user hitting the described bug, samba-common
only Recommends samba-common-bin, making the following case possible:

The user installs samba-common. Then, the user removes samba-common-bin.
Then the user reboots the system (which removes /run/samba created
during samba-common installation). Finally, the user installs samba-
common-bin, which results in a postinst script failure.
-
- For the case described above, restarting the system and reconfiguring
- (or running the installation again) should fix the issue, since the
- samba-common-bin systemd-tmpfiles configuration would now create
- /run/samba (running systemd-tmpfiles --create for the samba-common-bin
- would also work).
-
- The proposed patch cherry picks commit 0c3b205 from Debian to run
- systemd-tempfiles before the testparm call and applies further changes
- so the #DEBHELPER# tag can be expanded using debhelper compat 12.
- Aditionally, it introduces an autopkgtest test case for the fixed issue.

  [Test Plan]

To reproduce the issue, run the following steps:

  # apt install samba-common
  # apt remove samba-common-bin

Reboot the system and verify that the /run/samba directory no longer
  exists

  Run

  # apt install samba-common-bin

This command should exit with a non-zero status, as described in the
  original bug report.

After applying the proposed changes, performing the steps above should
result in a successful exit status for the last command.

  [Where problems could occur]

There are 2 changes to be considered here. The one to d/rules and the
  one to d/samba-common-bin.postinst

The change to d/rules makes the #DEBHELPER# tag, moved in the change to
  d/samba-common-bin.postinst to actually generate code.

- The generated code is making a call to systemd-tmpfiles, which is
- provided by the systemd package. However, samba-common-bin does not
- deppend on systemd.
-
- Here is the generated snippet:
-
- # Automatically added by dh_installsystemd/12.10ubuntu1
- if [ "$1" = "configure" ] || [ "$1" = "abort-upgrade" ] || [ "$1" =
"abort-deconfigure" ] || [ "$1" = "abort-remove" ] ; then
-  # In case this system is running systemd, we need to ensure that all
-  # necessary tmpfiles (if any) are created before starting.
-  if [ -d /run/systemd/system ] ; then
-   systemd-tmpfiles --create samba.conf >/dev/null || true
-  fi
- fi
- # End automatically added section
-
- The snipped showed above does check for evidence that systemd-tmpfiles
- is available in the system, although it does not make such check
- directly. However, in case /run/systemd/system is available and systemd-
- tmpfiles is not, the postinst script will not fail at that point. Still,
- if the systemd-tmpfiles command does not run, the issue this SRU is
- fixing will still manifest itself under the described conditions (which
- is true for hirsute, impish, and Debian stable as well).
+ Still, if the systemd-tmpfiles command does not run (e.g., there is no
+ systemd available in the system), the issue this SRU is fixing will
+ still manifest itself under the described conditions (which is true for
+ hirsute, impish, and Debian stable as well).

  [Other Info]

This issue was already fixed in Debian unstable and, consequently, in
  Ubuntu hirsute and impish.

[Bug 1903351] Re: ignore_eacces and ignore_erofs patches don't work properly

2021-05-28 Thread Steve Langasek
+ case EROFS:
+   ignore_failure = true;
+ xwarn(_("setting key \"%s\"%s"), outname,
(ignore_failure?_(", ignoring"):""));
+   break;
default:
xwarn(_("setting key \"%s\"%s"), outname,
(ignore_failure?_(", ignoring"):""));
break;

Instead of reproducing the xwarn() call, I believe this should be:

+ case EROFS:
+   ignore_failure = true;
default:
xwarn(_("setting key \"%s\"%s"), outname,
(ignore_failure?_(", ignoring"):""));
break;

I would prefer to see this reconciled before proceeding with the SRU.

[Bug 1777708] Re: Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time

2021-05-28 Thread Łukasz
I had the same situation, first on ubuntu 20.04 and now still on ubuntu
20.10.

I have USB keyboard nad usb mouse. I am using mapping for my USB mouse
(btnx-config library) so I can map my button as keyboard keys, I was
noticing small freezes but I though it was library problem. But later I
wanted to create a simple keylogger from python keyboard library and
simple script which always when I press d it also press r in system
keyboard. When I did it many times, my computer freeze for few seconds,
even minute and this warning occurs in syslog.

Is it going to be solve in 21.04?

[Bug 1929859] Re: wine and wine-development FTBFS with OpenLDAP 2.5

2021-05-28 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Thanks for the patches Sergio. The changes LGTM, the patch was provided
by upstream (more like a workaround for the stable release) and they
said it'd be safe.

A small thing I'd fix in the changelog of both packages is to align the
text better. Instead of:

  * Fix FTBFS with OpenLDAP 2.5. (LP: #1929859)
- d/p/fixes/fix-ftbfs-openldap-2.5.patch: New patch to rename
wldap32's 'ldap_connect' to something else so that it doesn't conflict
with OpenLDAP's function with the same name.

I'd use:

  * Fix FTBFS with OpenLDAP 2.5. (LP: #1929859)
- d/p/fixes/fix-ftbfs-openldap-2.5.patch: New patch to rename
wldap32's 'ldap_connect' to something else so that it doesn't conflict
with OpenLDAP's function with the same name.

And the added patch is missing the Description header (in both packages)
which I think it is important.

Apart from that, +1 from me for both packages.

Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar

[Bug 1927518] Re: Fix kdump failures

That last part about these patches only affecting Azure kernels is not
correct. These patches were actually applied to all of the master

have an impact when a VM is shutting down.

[Bug 1930091] [NEW] Totem (videos) doesn't correctly activate hardware accelleration in gstreamer

2021-05-28 Thread Heinz Assmus
Public bug reported:

If I play videos (mp4) with totem in Intel graphics (i965) Haswell Chip
the hardware acelleration is not completly activated in gstreamer. In
intel-gpu-tools (command intel_gpu_top) it shows, that only the Engine
"Render/3D" is activated but not the Engine "Videos" and "Blitter" in
the driver. So the cpu consumption is markable higher if I play the same
video with gstreamer plaver "gst-play-1.0". With gst-play-1.0 the Engine
"Video" and "Blitter" is sometimes additional activated to the Engine
"Render/3D" and the consumption in Render/3D is reduced in comparison to
play the video with totem!

[Bug 1929147] Re: fix system hang with 5.10 kernel + RX540 on RKL platform

2021-05-28 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello koba, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into hirsute-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/1.197.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1930090] [NEW] Sometimes doubleclick to open folders is not working

2021-05-28 Thread Philipp Lietz
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 (64 bit, Desktop) and sometimes the doubleclick to open
folders is not working correctly.
Its not the mouse, cause I use the same mouse on a windows pc and it works
without any problems.
Its also not the doubleclick speed, I'm very sure about that, even if i can't
prove. But I'm using a PC for over 20 years and never got that problem in the
past 10 years, only with Ubuntu.
So I think there's something wrong, cause its very annyoing if you have to work
and go through many different folders and then every 5. - 10. folder that
problem occurs.
I posted this question in a ubuntu users forum and others said that they have
that problem, too.

[Bug 1927518] Re: Fix kdump failures

2021-05-28 Thread Tim Gardner
That last part about these patches only affecting Azure kernels is not
correct. These patches were actually applied to all of the master
kernels. However, chance for regression is pretty small since they only
have an impact when a VM is shutting down.

[Bug 1927518] Re: Fix kdump failures

2021-05-28 Thread Tim Gardner
Since these packets were by request of Microsoft I'm going to call this
verification-done. Test kernels have been available, though no test
results have been reported. Its likely safe enough since these commits
affect only Azure kernels.

** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  [Impact]

Microsoft relayed a customer report of failures when trying to take a
  kdump.

These 3 patches fix the issue:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/video/fbdev/hyperv_fb.c?id=aa5b7d11c7cb87c266d705b237368985e7171958

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/hv/channel_mgmt.c?id=77db0ec8b7764cb9b09b78066ebfd47b2c0c1909

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/hv/channel_mgmt.c?id=8c2d5e0640e53c14b6240e9bf1e32a2226e6e6ca

Patch #1 solves a problem where the “Unable to send packet via vmbus”
message is output continuously. But with that problem fixed, the second
problem can occur where the kdump kernel panics due to receiving an
  unexpected VMbus UNLOAD complete message.

Patch #2 prevents the UNLOAD complete message from ever occurring in the
kdump kernel. But if the UNLOAD complete message does occur at some
unexpected time, Patch #3 prevents it from causing a panic.

These patches seem worthy of application to all affected master kernels.

  [Test Plan]

Cause a guest kernel to crash and successfully acquire a kdump.

  [Where problems could occur]

The extended Hyper-V wait while flushing could cause side effects.

[Bug 1930089] [NEW] New files and directories on server are getting set to nobody and nogroup

2021-05-28 Thread David McKenna
Public bug reported:

Files and directories on SMB server are getting set to nobody and
nogroup when created on client system. Creating directory and files via
smbclient works. Windows and MacOS have no issues and sets the uid and
gid of new files and directories as the current user. I can not get CIFS
to work this same way for some reason and I have searched everywhere for
a solution. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just me being stupid and
missing something.
