2021-09-03 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
For the sake of completeness, I was able to determine the right place to
unset the $http_proxy variable inside the project so that it also works.
One should place an os.Unsetenv call as the first instruction of the
following function:

func dc() *Client

which can be found inside the resty_test.go file.

[Bug 1942639] Re: autopkgtest failure (proxy-related)

2021-09-03 Thread Sergio Durigan Junior
This debdiff works around the problem. The rationale is the same as the
one from LP #1942491: we need to unset $http_proxy before running the
tests.

A PPA with the proposed change is here:

https://launchpad.net/~sergiodj/+archive/ubuntu/golang-github-google-
martian-autopkgtest-fix

The package is building as I write this; I will post the autopkgtest
results once they're available, but I was able to reproduce the problem
locally and then confirm that it doesn't manifest with the patch.

[Bug 1942542] [NEW] gedit causes loss of extended attributes (xattrs)

2021-09-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Seth Arnold (seth-arnold):

Ubuntu 21.04 hirsute
gedit 3.38.1-1

If a file with extended attributes (xattrs) is edited and saved with
gedit, the xattrs are lost. This problem - as well as the loss of birth
time, reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1940758 - seems to
be caused by gedit creating a new file when saving. Compare this with
nano, which does not destroy xattrs.

Steps to reproduce:
1 echo testing > testfile.txt
2 setfattr -n user.test -v "this is my test xattr" testfile.txt
3 getfattr -d testfile.txt
# file: testfile.txt
user.test="this is my test xattr"
4 gedit testfile.txt
make edit and save
5 getfattr -d testfile.txt
no output

This bug also causes a loss of ACLs for the edited file, as they are
stored as extended attributes. Because of this I am marking this bug as
a security vulnerability.

This bug is not limited to gedit; it applies to a number of other text
editors.

[Bug 1942618] Re: package grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.13 failed to install/upgrade: problemas de dependência - deixando desconfigurado

2021-09-03 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Bug 1942632] Re: Ubuntu software don't load applies

2021-09-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1942632/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1940871] Re: sru cloud-init (21.2-3 to 21.3-1) Bionic, Focal, and Hirsute

2021-09-03 Thread Chad Smith
During verification on Azure it was determined that there are some
regressions in terms of re-configuring network multiple times during
boot as well as some corner cases where dhcp retries are unneeded in
early boot during retries. This avoids long blocking during instance
provisioning stages.

[Bug 1942644] [NEW] Impish update: v5.13.14 upstream stable release

2021-09-03 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar

   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
   stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

2021-09-03 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the

[Bug 1942646] [NEW] SRU 2.52

2021-09-03 Thread Ian Johnson
Public bug reported:

[ placeholder - release in progress ]

This is a new version of snapd.

The changelog is available here
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.52/packaging/ubuntu-16.04/changelog,
the raw git changelog is available here:
https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.52 (note that the debian
changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so there
is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into xenial. The
new process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used
and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on
classic and unit tests.

** Affects: snapd (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1942638] Re: Calamares incorrectly reports no internet available

2021-09-03 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
Not sure what happened at the time of my first report - but I have
installed on several other boxes both with ethernet and WiFi connections
and cannot reproduce the bug.

** Description changed:

- Testing Lubuntu Impish daily 03.09.2021 on Dell optiplex 7076 box
+ Testing Lubuntu Impish daily 03.09.2021 on Dell optiplex 7060 box bare
+ metal and in VirtualBox on another machine also connected to the
+ Internet.

  When installing Lubuntu - calamares reports no Internet available -
  However the box is connected via ethernet and when I advance to
  "location" the correct location is shown and the machine is connected.

  The syslog is attached

Note upstream change has landed related to this request/bug[1] which

until the cloud-optimized version of FIPS kernel clears certification
for AWS and Azure. This "fix" will be present in ubuntu-advantage-tools

[Bug 1942648] [NEW] restart button remains visible in the advanced partitioner after the bitlocker page is shown

2021-09-03 Thread Sam van Kampen
Public bug reported:

On a system where BitLocker is enabled, when choosing "Install Ubuntu
alongside Windows Boot Manager", a page is shown instructing us to turn
off BitLocker. On this page, a green restart button is shown.

If we now go back and pick "Something else", the advanced partitioning
screen still displays the green restart button, even though clicking on
it acts like the expected "Install Now" button.

I've attached a proposed patch which makes the button look as expected.

[Bug 1942653] [NEW] RandR fractional scaling patch interferes with manual RandR output scaling

2021-09-03 Thread Alex Goins
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

$ apt-cache policy mutter
mutter:
  Installed: 3.36.9-0ubuntu0.20.04.1

---

As an example with one output, scaling it with e.g. 'xrandr --output
 --mode 3840x2160 --scale-from 1920x1080', would usually result
in a screen size of 1920x1080, as xrandr sets the screen size to the
bounding box of the configured crtcs.

Ubuntu carries an out-of-tree patch for Mutter:
x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch, attached. It adds a
new function, meta_monitor_manager_xrandr_update_screen_size_derived(), that in
response to RandR configuration changes will attempt to set its own screen
size. When calculating the new screen size, it applies a scaling factor to each
crtc that effectively reverses the requested one. As a result, in the above
example the resulting screen size is 3840x2160, despite the fact that there is
only a 1920x1080 viewport into it.

With the modesetting driver, this isn't a huge issue. The resulting
screen size is larger than you can actually interact with, wasting
memory, but it doesn't cause any visible functional issues.

The NVIDIA driver automatically configures panning when the requested
outputs' viewports are smaller than the screen size. This increases crtc
size, which impacts Mutter's screen size calculation. When Mutter sets
the larger-than-outputs screen size, it triggers the NVIDIA driver to
automatically configure panning. Mutter reacts to the RandR
configuration change by again recalculating the screen size, this time
growing it even larger due to the larger crtcs. In response, the NVIDIA
driver sets up the new, larger panning configuration, causing the crtcs
to be even larger, and causing Mutter to once again recalculate the
screen size. This goes on until all memory is consumed and gnome-shell
is killed by the OOM killer, or the screen reaches maximum size. In the
meantime, the screen is black with only a cursor while gnome-shell
spins.

It appears that meta_monitor_manager_xrandr_update_screen_size_derived()
is intended for GNOME fractional scaling, adjusting the screen size to
accommodate. In this case we are manually configuring output scaling
with RandR, but this code still runs, causing unintended consequences.

[Bug 1942655] [NEW] problem after minimizing windows

2021-09-03 Thread Diego Iboy
Public bug reported:

Hello, the problem that I am presented with is basic, but quite annoying.
At any time without any type of pattern, when minimizing a window (of any
program), these remain as "background", and become part of the wallpaper. You
do not interact with it but it remains static on the site.
I attach an example.
The only temporary solution that has worked for me is to log out, but it almost
certainly happens again.
I appreciate the help :)

[Bug 1940096] Re: mdadm: merge 4.2~rc2-2 from Debian unstable

2021-09-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mdadm - 4.2~rc2-2ubuntu1

---
mdadm (4.2~rc2-2ubuntu1) impish; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1940096), remaining changes:
- Ship finalrd hook.
- Do not install mdadm-shutdown.service on Ubuntu.
- Drop broken and unused init scripts in favor of native systemd units,
  which can cause failure to reconfigure mdadm package under certain
  confiment types.
- Drop /etc/cron.d/mdadm and migrate to systemd mdcheck_start|continue
  timer units.
- Drop /etc/cron.daily/mdadm and migrate to system mdmonitor-oneshot
  timer unit.
- mdcheck_start.timer configures the mdcheck on a first sunday of the
  month, with a randomized start delay of up to 24h, and runs for at
  most 6h. mdcheck_continue.timer kicks off daily, with a randomized
  start delay of up to 12h, and continues mdcheck for at most 6h.
- mdmonitor-oneshot.timer runs daily, with a randomized start delay of
  up to 24h.
- One can use systemd drop-ins to change .timer units timings, set
  environmental variables to decrease/increase the length of checking,
  or start the checks by hand. Previously used checkarray is still
  available, albeit not used by timer units.
- Above ensures that previous daily / monthly checks are performed, but
  are randomized, such that performance is not as impacted across a
  cluster of machines.
- Honor the debconf daily autoscan setting in the systemd timer.
- d/p/mdcheck-fix-empty-spaces-in-timer-unit-files.patch:
  - The spaces were causing a FTBFS situation, triggered by
dh_installsystemd not finding units.
- Mention mdmonitor-oneshot.service instead of /etc/cron.daily/mdadm
  in /etc/default/mdadm

mdadm (4.2~rc2-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Upload targeting unstable.
  * Fix uscan regex for upstream tarballs.

mdadm (4.2~rc2-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * New release candidate from upstream.

2021-09-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

---
ppp (2.4.9-1+1ubuntu1) impish; urgency=low

  [ Simon Chopin ]
  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1912168). Remaining changes:
- debian/extra/ip-up.d/usepeerdns: Added NetworkManager check, which
  lets the script exit when NetworkManager is in use
  * Dropped changes as obsolete
- debian/patches/CVE-2020-8597.patch: fix bounds check in EAP code in
  pppd/eap.c.

  [ Iain Lane ]
  * Also drop this change:
- Stop producing udebs on i386 where we no longer have d-i or a kernel.
   + Since hirsute these aren't built anyway, so we no longer need to
 exclude them on specific arches.

ppp (2.4.9-1+1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Samuel Thibault ]
  * Use merge request URLs.
  * Add comments from upstream for Nacked patches.

  [ Chris Boot ]
  * New upstream release.
- Adds defaultroute6 option. (Closes: #477245)
- Adds defaultroute-metric option. (Closes: #578726)
- Accepts Windows Server 2019 malformed messages. (Closes: #968040)

  * d/rules: adjust for renamed pppoe plugin.
  * d/ppp.lintian-overrides: update paths to plugins.

  * Update d/watch to point at ftp.samba.org and add the signing key.
  * Freshen up the ip{,v6}-{up,down} scripts. (Closes: #710946)

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * Stop using deprecated systemd-resolve tool. (Closes: #979255)

  [ наб ]
  * Add /etc/ppp/ip-pre-up and corresponding /etc/ppp/ip-pre-up.d.
   (Closes: #978396)

ppp (2.4.8-1+2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Clean up correctly after pppd-dns init script and systemd unit removal.
(Closes: #978427)
  * Don't touch resolv.conf when systemd-resolved is running.
(Closes: #968589)

  [ Samuel Thibault ]
  * Mark forwarded patches.

ppp (2.4.8-1+1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Debian Janitor ]
  * Use secure URI in Homepage field.
  * Set upstream metadata fields: Bug-Database, Bug-Submit, Repository,
Repository-Browse.
  * Update renamed lintian tag names in lintian overrides.

  [ Chris Boot ]
  * d/control:
- Switch to debhelper compat level 13.
- Update Standards-Version to 4.5.1 (no changes requird).
  * Clean up or ignore a handful of lintian complaints:
- Ignore possible-bashism-in-maintainer-script in ppp-udeb ($HOSTNAME is
  set in the script).
- Do not use full path to pppoe-discovery.
- Remove 'echo' bashism (backslash substitution).
- Remove superfluous #DEBHELPER# tag.
- Install lintian overrides for ppp-udeb.
  * d/rules: move generated changelog-from-README under debian/.

  * d/patches:
- Remove patches applied upstream.
- Refresh other patches to remove fuzz.
- Some patches required significant reworking:
  - cifdefroute.dif (for replacedefaultroute)
  - makefiles_cleanup
  * d/ppp.symbols:
- adjust symbols for new release.
- add Build-Depends-Package metadata field.
  * Switch to debhelper compat level 12.
- Remove d/compat.
- Replace Build-Depends on debhelper with debhelper-compat (= 12).

  (Closes: #889323)
- Thanks to Алексей Шилин for the patches.
  * Update Standards-Version to 4.5.0 (no changes requird).
  * Add debian/salsa-ci.yml for GitLab CI, but disable reprotest which
currently fails when files need chowning (salsa-ci-team/pipeline#26).
  * Import patches since upstream 2.4.8 release:
- radius: Prevent buffer overflow in rc_mksid (replaces
  rc_mksid-no-buffer-overflow fixing #782450)
- pppd: Fix bounds check in EAP code (Closes: #950618; CVE-2020-8597)
- pppd: Ignore received EAP messages when not doing EAP
