Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1954575/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1298194] [NEW] HP LaserJet 4000 PostScript PPD buggy
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I upgraded my Debian system from Squeeze to Wheezy, I had two problems with printing. My printer is a HP LaserJet 4000, with a JetDirect card and plenty of memory (384KB). I'm using the PostScript PPD, because the other PPDs don't allow me to select most printer options. The printer was working fine in Squeeze. I had to fix two problems to make my printer work in the new version of CUPS (1.5.3) and hp-drivers (3.12.6). The first problem is an issue I had already fixed in Squeeze, and needed to fix again. The PPD for the HP LaserJet 4000 is misisng a critical postscript workaround. The HP LaserJet 4000 and HP LaserJet 4050 are effectively the same printer, just a faster processor (I know, I also have a 4050). The fix was to extract the workaround from the PPD for the 4050 and insert that in the PPD for the 4000. The other differences between the PPDs are related to job storage, and I don't use that which is why I did not try to backport it. The patch for the PPD for the 4000 is attached. The original file name seems to be HP4000_5.PPD. The second problem, which is new is Wheezy, is that PDF to PS renderer need to be changed. The default, GostScript, absolutely choke the printer. After many minutes, either the printer print an error message, or just stop processing witout printing anything. To change the renderer, I needed to do : lpadmin -p -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops The documentation claim that changing the rendered will loose color accuracy, which is most likely not an issue for a black and white printer. I hope it's possible to change the default renderer for all those old printers so that printer drivers work out of the box, because tracking down those things takes time. Thanks ! [Bug 1954575] [NEW] Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 (manual / autoinstall) keyboard layout not applied in console or decryption
Public bug reported: I think the manual and autoinstall methods of Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 got a bug regarding the keyboard / keymap setup. This is not (or maybe could be) related to the setup where the configured keyboard layout gets forgotten throughout the different setup screens. I am installing with a specified keyboard layout but it won't get recognized until the system fully booted (aka login screen). So in console or in my case the decryption phase I cannot properly enter my secret. I think it switches back to the default en_US. I tried calling `update-initramfs -u` in target (and directly, too) during the late- commands phase on an autoinstall but it doesn't change anything. It will only work calling it once the system booted and I'm logged in. After being regenerated I have the proper keymap for the decryption. This also happens for a manual install using the live server 20.04.3 image right from source. I define the keyboard / locale in the appropriate section and it doesn't apply until the system booted. I can reproduce this in 10/10 cases using the manual install and autoinstall method. checked: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/subiquity/+bugs?orderby=importance&start=0 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I think the manual and autoinstall methods of Ubuntu Server 20.04.3 got a bug regarding the keyboard / keymap setup. This is not (or maybe could be) related to the setup where the configured keyboard layout gets forgotten throughout the different setup screens. I am installing with a specified keyboard layout but it won't get recognized until the system fully booted (aka login screen). So in console or in my case the decryption phase I cannot properly enter my - secret. I think it switches back tot he default en_US. I tried calling + secret. [Bug 1639531] Re: GCC compiles programs to shared object instead of executable, preventing GUI file managers from executing programs
This isn't a bug. Ubuntu has setup GCC with "pie" flag enabled for some unknown reason, and this causes executable output to be tagged as shared library. Use "-no-pie" with GCC when compiling. If using Qt Creator / QMake add this to your project file unix:QMAKE_LFLAGS += -no-pie All will work fine after that, and your system will see your local GCC compiled executables tagged as "executable", and Nautilus or any other file browser will be able to run it via click as usual. [Bug 244295] [NEW] PATCH ATTACHED: Short-edge duplex does not work with HPIJS if duplex is PJL-controlled (most non-PostScript laser printers)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I am using the HP Color LaserJet 3600 with HPLIP 2.8.6 on Ubuntu Intrepid. Problem is that the duplex orientation is not respected. Independent if I choose long-edge or short-edge, I get always the duplex orientation for long-edge-bound (portrait) documents. The problem is not caused by broken PostScript input nor by a bug in foomatic-rip, as the Ghostscript command line is reported as follows in error_log (CUPS in debug mode): gs -sstdout=%stderr -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ijs -sIjsServer=hpijs -sDeviceManufacturer="HEWLETT-PACKARD" -sDeviceModel="hp color LaserJet 3600" -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842 -dDuplex=true -dTumble=true -r600 -sIjsParams=Quality:Quality=2,Quality:ColorMode=2,Quality:MediaType=0,Quality:PenSet=2,PS:MediaPosition=7 -dIjsUseOutputFD -sOutputFile=%stdout - It contains the "-dTumble=true" which tells the driver to use short-edge orientation. I have tested only with the HP Color LaserJet 3600 (PPD of the proprietary plug-in). Please test also with other printer device classes. ** Affects: hplip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Fix Released -- PATCH ATTACHED: Short-edge duplex does not work with HPIJS if duplex is PJL-controlled (most non-PostScript laser printers) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244295 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1948010] Re: photo comment changed in "binary comment"
I do have the same issue. I find out this happens systematicaly when I use accentuated characters in a Comment. I am french so this is quite often ! When I close Shotwell and reopen it, the Comment is good, with accents. But the metadata of the picture still says "binary comment". Strange because I activated the option to write metadata in the picture. Is there a link with the fact that Title begins with lang="x-default" in the metadata of the picture even if Shotwell doesn't show that ? If you need more details, please just ask. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948010 Title: photo comment changed in "binary comment" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/1948010/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1954565] [NEW] rtw88_pci causes system to freeze with rtl8821ce wireless card
Public bug reported: I have an HP dw-1015nv laptop, with a realtek rtl8821ce wireless/bluetooth card. After installing ubuntu, the system would randomly freeze. The fan spun up to max and there was no response from the keyboard or on the screen. I noticed that this issue stopped after disabling WiFi. After doing some research i found out that creating a file in /etc/modprobe.d/ called rtw88_pci.conf with the contents: options rtw88_pci disable_aspm=1 , the problem stopped. Is there any way to implement this by default? It might take new users a long time to understand what is happening and they may be discouraged from using ubuntu in the future. uname -a Linux HP-Laptop-15-dw1xxx 5.13.0-23-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 26 11:41:15 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 21.10 Release:21.10 Codename: impish ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 21.10 Package: linux-image-5.13.0-23-generic 5.13.0-23.23 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.13.0-23.23-generic 5.13.19 Uname: Linux 5.13.0-23-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu71 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: mariosk1457 F pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Dec 11 13:12:27 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-12-10 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 21.10 "Impish Indri" - Release amd64 (20211012) MachineType: HP HP Laptop 15-dw1xxx ProcFB: 0 i915drmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.13.0-23-generic root=UUID=42675131-6ed1-45be-b3aa-736d2fe0d3be ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-5.13.0-23-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-5.13.0-23-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.201.3 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 10/15/2021 dmi.bios.release: 15.53 dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde dmi.bios.version: F.53 dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 85F2 dmi.board.vendor: HP dmi.board.version: 37.29 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: HP dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.ec.firmware.release: 37.29 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsyde:bvrF.53:bd10/15/2021:br15.53:efr37.29:svnHP:pnHPLaptop15-dw1xxx:pvrType1ProductConfigId:rvnHP:rn85F2:rvr37.29:cvnHP:ct10:cvrChassisVersion:sku2E7F7EA#AB7: dmi.product.family: 103C_5335KV HP Notebook dmi.product.name: HP Laptop 15-dw1xxx dmi.product.sku: 2E7F7EA#AB7 dmi.product.version: Type1ProductConfigId dmi.sys.vendor: HP ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug impish package-from-proposed realtek rtw88 rtw88-8821ce rtw88-pci wifi -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1954565 Title: rtw88_pci causes system to freeze with rtl8821ce wireless card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1954565/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
