[Bug 1967799] Re: firefox, chromium and other snap apps can't print

2022-04-04 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Just yesterday we landed a fix in snapd to address some issues with
cups: https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/pull/11616

Unfortunately I do not know the details of the issue that this change
solves, but maybe someone with more knowledge of cups can tell if that
change could fix this bug too.

Thank you for testing this out. I'll mark the same.

For 22.04 and 22.10, I was waiting on your tests as your comment #6 had
got me worried a bit. I'll start working on the backports now and I'll
have some news by the end of the week. TIA.

[Bug 1967702] Re: Enable speakup kernel modules to allow the speakup screen reader to function

2022-04-04 Thread Matthew Ruffell
** Summary changed:

- Accessibility features have been disabled, modules like speakup_soft and
others are missing
+ Enable speakup kernel modules to allow the speakup screen reader to function

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Jammy)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: Confirmed

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Jammy)
   Status: Confirmed => In Progress

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Jammy)
   Importance: Undecided => High

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Jammy)
 Assignee: (unassigned) => Matthew Ruffell (mruffell)

** Description changed:

- From very old versions of Kernel for Ubuntu until version 5.13, accessibility
features were enabled, allowing blind users to use screen readers in text mode,
such as "speakup" via "espeakup" package.
- In Kernels 5.15 packages for Ubuntu 22.04 beta, such as
"linux-image-5.15.0-23-generic", accessibility features are disabled (no
justification for such occurrence was listed in the file
"changelog.Debian.gz"), with this the espeakup application doesn't work, it
depends on the missing speakup_soft module.
- Missing in the file "/boot/config-5.15.0-23-generic" comparing with the file
"/boot/config-5.13.0-39-generic", the line
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1967702
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ Blind system administrators rely on the speakup accessibility feature to
+ be able to use screen readers in text mode, like "espeakup".
+
+ Ubuntu has enabled CONFIG_SPEAKUP for a significant amount of time,
+ although in recent releases it keeps being disabled. In Hirsute and
+ Impish, it was accidentally disabled due to it moving from
+ drivers/staging/ to drivers/accessibility/, and it was re-added by Tim
+ Gardner in LP1942459.
+
+ When it was recently re-enabled, the patch was never applied to ubuntu-
+ unstable, and thus was never picked up by Jammy.
+
+ We need to enable CONFIG_ACCESSIBILITY and CONFIG_SPEAKUP in Jammy and
+ ubuntu-unstable.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ We need to enable the following configuration items:
+
  CONFIG_ACCESSIBILITY=y
- and the following lines are also missing:
- #
- # Speakup console speech
- #
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP=m
+
+ and the additional modules:
+
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_ACNTSA=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_APOLLO=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_AUDPTR=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_BNS=m
+ CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECEXT=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECTLK=m
- CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DECEXT=m
+ CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DUMMY=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_LTLK=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_SOFT=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_SPKOUT=m
  CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_TXPRT=m
- CONFIG_SPEAKUP_SYNTH_DUMMY=m
- # end of Speakup console speech

[Bug 1967719] Re: No QXL display showing

2022-04-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You don't need to reboot, but also that doesn't seem to have worked and
the stack traces look the same as before. Generally if Xorg reports a
crash in 'OsLookupColor' you know that's wrong and it's just missing
debug symbols.

Please continue with:

If you could provide a fresh clean log of the issue I would be
interested to see. Please:

1. Reboot.

2. Reproduce the bug.

3. Reboot.

4. Run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

5. Attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1967817] [NEW] display problems with wayland

2022-04-04 Thread David Lang
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 21.10 to 22.04 pre-beta. xorg isn't working (separate
bug filed for that), so I switched to wayland. Using gnome, kde, and
ubuntu desktops under wayland is giving problems with chrome and brave
browsers. If I have a single window open, it's pretty good, but if I
have multiple windows open (a half dozen for brave, 33 for chrome is
typical for me), the screen frequently flickers and I get portions of
the different windows showing up.

In many ways this is similar to screen tearing (historically fixed with
vsync updating in X), but it doesn't have a clean edge to it, and it's
not a matter of top of the screen one image, bottom the other, instead
it's a band (~1/4 of the screen high, not always in the same location,
but tends to be ~1/3 down from the top more frequently) and in that band
I see portions of other windows that are behind the forground window.

[Bug 1967816] [NEW] PDF file completely silently fails to print, computer claims it printed, printer shows no trace of it

2022-04-04 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

I have an HP LaserJet M551dn printer which usually works just fine with
CUPS. Tonight, however, I discovered that I was completely unable to
print one particular PDF file (unfortunately I can't provide you with
the file because it's a scan of a tax form with PII on it). CUPS claimed
that it printed the file and there are no errors in the log. On the
other side, the printer doesn't show any trace of the file haven't been
sent to it. The print job isn't in the job log, and at no point while
CUPS claims it's printing does the printer make any noise or any of its
lights blink as they usually do when a job is being sent to it.

I don't know how to debug this further. I'm attaching the section of
/var/log/cups/error_log from the attempt to print the file.

This is reproducible every time with this particular file, including
immediately after updating to all current Jammy packages and rebooting.

2022-04-04 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1967812/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Just tested once again with Word from MS Office 365, confirming that a
variant of this bug is indeed present in MS Office: Opening some text,
deleting with track-changes on and shown, and then using search:
the searched text is found also in the deleted text and replaced with
non-deleted text. I have reported it to MS Office as a bug.

Well, to get back to the point of a LibreOffice forum: The bug is still
present in LO 7.3.2.2

[Bug 1967736] Re: Firefox.deb menu blacklisted in 22.04

2022-04-04 Thread Martin Wimpress 
This is intended. `firefox.desktop` from the .deb is a migration utility
and wrapper to launcher the snap. The is no .deb of Firefox in the 22.04
archive.

The reason `firefox.desktop` is hidden is because I have firefox .deb to
.snap migrations in `ubuntu-mate-settings overlay`. If `firefox.desktop`
is not hidden there will be two Firefox menu items, one for the snap
directly and the other is for the wrapper provided by the .deb.

[Bug 1967814] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04.3 - ilzlnx3g1 - virtio-scsi devs on KVM guest having miscompares on disktests when there is a failed path.

2022-04-04 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

== Comment: #63 - Halil Pasic  - 2022-03-28 17:33:34 ==
I'm pretty confident I've figured out what is going on.

From the guest side, the decision whether the SCSI command was completed
successfully or not comes down to looking at the sense data. Prior to commit
a108557bbf ("scsi: inline sg_io_sense_from_errno() into the callers."), we don't
build sense data as a response to seeing a host status presented by the host
SCSI stack (e.g. kernel).

Thus when the kernel tells us that a given SCSI command did not get completed
via
SCSI_HOST_TRANSPORT_DISRUPTED or SCSI_HOST_NO_LUN, we end up fooling the guest
into believing that the command completed successfully.

The guest kernel, and especially virtio and multipath are at no fault
(AFAIU). Given these facts, it isn't all that surprising, that we end up
with corruptions.

All we have to do is do backports for QEMU (when necessary). I didn't
investigate vhost-scsi -- my guess is, that it ain't affected.

How do we want to handle the back-ports?

== Comment: #66 - Halil Pasic  - 2022-04-04 05:36:33 ==
This is a proposed backport containing 7 patches in mbox format. I tried to
pick patches sanely, and all I had to do was basically resolving merge
conflicts.

I have to admit I have no extensive experience in doing such invasive
backports, and my knowledge of the QEMU SCSI stack is very limited. I
would be happy if the Ubuntu folks would have a good look at this, and
if possible improve on it.

[Bug 1967813] [NEW] git config pull.rebase not observed

2022-04-04 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

I have pull.rebase=true and pull.ff=only set up in my global git config:

```
[pull]
ff = only
rebase = true
```

however in jammy, when I git pull with a local commit, I get the following
error:
```
fatal: Not possible to fast-forward, aborting.
```

doing a git pull --rebase does the right thing (but should not be necessary
with this config?):
```
Successfully rebased and updated refs/heads/main.
```

In impish the pull.rebase appeared to be observed properly.

runc/containerd/docker.io were uploaded targeting Bionic already (runc

[Bug 1924251] Re: Embedded browser display corruption under Wayland on Pi desktop

2022-04-04 Thread Dave Jones
@seb128 interesting, I've just tried this on a fully updated jammy image
on a Pi 400 and /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/webkit2gtk-4.0/MiniBrowser
starts quite happily; browser window opens and ... nothing but blank
white space within the body of the window. All the controls in the
toolbar are fine and it's definitely able to navigate to pages, and
after a bit of experimentation I'm reasonably convinced it's all
"working correctly" with the one exception that nothing actually shows
up (but the mouse cursor changes shape in all the right places, etc).

@vanvugt: in case it's of any use, MiniBrowser produced the following
console output:

** (MiniBrowser:149058): WARNING **: 21:30:51.512: GDK is not able to create a
GL context, falling back to glReadPixels (slow!): Unable to create a GL context

[Bug 1779340] Re: systemd-networkd-wait-online.service Failed to start Wait for Network to be Configured with bridge

2022-04-04 Thread Lupe Christoph
I have not yet reproduced this on my Ubuntu 21.10 for lack of time, but
I ran into it on a Debian 11 machine I was converting to Netplan and
preparing to port the ifupdown scripts.

I tried ignoring unimportant interfaces, but no dice. So I ran an strace
on /lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online (attached). I failed to
understand what is really going on, but the program configures a epoll
instance. After some successful use of that something fails to happen
and the two minute timeout strikes. During that timeout, the program is
repeatedly looking at /run/systemd/netif/links/1, but it does not
change.

The machine has four interfaces: lo, ens3, dummy1 and tun0.
/run/systemd/netif/links/2 and /run/systemd/netif/links/3 are ens3 and
dummy1, 4 is probably tun0, being the last created, and the state is
ADDRESS_STATE=routable.

But /run/systemd/netif/links/1 is strange. This should be lo, but lo is
configured:
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 ::1/128 scope host
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

but /run/systemd/netif/links/1 is
ADMIN_STATE=unmanaged
OPER_STATE=carrier
CARRIER_STATE=carrier
ADDRESS_STATE=off

So I thought that adding a netplan configuration for lo might help.
Well, it doesn't. The strace is the same, except for the contents of the
netif file.

Please reopen this ticket and push it upstream. There is something
uncouth about systemd-networkd-wait-online's relationship with lo.
