[Bug 1967817] [NEW] display problems with wayland
Public bug reported: I upgraded from 21.10 to 22.04 pre-beta. xorg isn't working (separate bug filed for that), so I switched to wayland. Using gnome, kde, and ubuntu desktops under wayland is giving problems with chrome and brave browsers. If I have a single window open, it's pretty good, but if I have multiple windows open (a half dozen for brave, 33 for chrome is typical for me), the screen frequently flickers and I get portions of the different windows showing up. In many ways this is similar to screen tearing (historically fixed with vsync updating in X), but it doesn't have a clean edge to it, and it's not a matter of top of the screen one image, bottom the other, instead it's a band (~1/4 of the screen high, not always in the same location, but tends to be ~1/3 down from the top more frequently) and in that band I see portions of other windows that are behind the forground window. [Bug 1967816] [NEW] PDF file completely silently fails to print, computer claims it printed, printer shows no trace of it
Public bug reported: I have an HP LaserJet M551dn printer which usually works just fine with CUPS. Tonight, however, I discovered that I was completely unable to print one particular PDF file (unfortunately I can't provide you with the file because it's a scan of a tax form with PII on it). CUPS claimed that it printed the file and there are no errors in the log. On the other side, the printer doesn't show any trace of the file haven't been sent to it. The print job isn't in the job log, and at no point while CUPS claims it's printing does the printer make any noise or any of its lights blink as they usually do when a job is being sent to it. I don't know how to debug this further. I'm attaching the section of /var/log/cups/error_log from the attempt to print the file. This is reproducible every time with this particular file, including immediately after updating to all current Jammy packages and rebooting. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1967812/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. You probably did not understand the bug. > Libreoffice replaces the deleted text with each recursion while > Microsoft Office does not replace deleted text. Just tested once again with Word from MS Office 365, confirming that a variant of this bug is indeed present in MS Office: Opening some text, deleting with track-changes on and shown, and then using search: the searched text is found also in the deleted text and replaced with non-deleted text. [Bug 1967736] Re: Firefox.deb menu blacklisted in 22.04
This is intended. `firefox.desktop` from the .deb is a migration utility and wrapper to launcher the snap. The is no .deb of Firefox in the 22.04 archive. The reason `firefox.desktop` is hidden is because I have firefox .deb to .snap migrations in `ubuntu-mate-settings overlay`. If `firefox.desktop` is not hidden there will be two Firefox menu items, one for the snap directly and the other is for the wrapper provided by the .deb. ** Changed in: ubuntu-mate-settings (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1967736 Title: Firefox.deb menu blacklisted in 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-mate-settings/+bug/1967736/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1967814] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04.3 - ilzlnx3g1 - virtio-scsi devs on KVM guest having miscompares on disktests when there is a failed path.
Public bug reported: == Comment: #63 - Halil Pasic - 2022-03-28 17:33:34 == I'm pretty confident I've figured out what is going on. From the guest side, the decision whether the SCSI command was completed successfully or not comes down to looking at the sense data. Prior to commit a108557bbf ("scsi: inline sg_io_sense_from_errno() into the callers."), we don't build sense data as a response to seeing a host status presented by the host SCSI stack (e.g. kernel). Thus when the kernel tells us that a given SCSI command did not get completed via SCSI_HOST_TRANSPORT_DISRUPTED or SCSI_HOST_NO_LUN, we end up fooling the guest into believing that the command completed successfully. The guest kernel, and especially virtio and multipath are at no fault (AFAIU). Given these facts, it isn't all that surprising, that we end up with corruptions. All we have to do is do backports for QEMU (when necessary). I didn't investigate vhost-scsi -- my guess is, that it ain't affected. How do we want to handle the back-ports? == Comment: #66 - Halil Pasic - 2022-04-04 05:36:33 == This is a proposed backport containing 7 patches in mbox format. I tried to pick patches sanely, and all I had to do was basically resolving merge conflicts. I have to admit I have no extensive experience in doing such invasive backports, and my knowledge of the QEMU SCSI stack is very limited. I would be happy if the Ubuntu folks would have a good look at this, and if possible improve on it. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Skipper Bug Screeners (skipper-screen-team) Status: New ** Tags: architecture-s39064 bugnameltc-195744 severity-high targetmilestone-inin--- ** Tags added: architecture-s39064 bugnameltc-195744 severity-high targetmilestone-inin--- -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1967814 Title: Ubuntu 20.04.3 - ilzlnx3g1 - virtio-scsi devs on KVM guest having miscompares on disktests when there is a failed path. [Bug 1779340] Re: systemd-networkd-wait-online.service Failed to start Wait for Network to be Configured with bridge
I have not yet reproduced this on my Ubuntu 21.10 for lack of time, but I ran into it on a Debian 11 machine I was converting to Netplan and preparing to port the ifupdown scripts. I tried ignoring unimportant interfaces, but no dice. So I ran an strace on /lib/systemd/systemd-networkd-wait-online (attached). I failed to understand what is really going on, but the program configures a epoll instance. After some successful use of that something fails to happen and the two minute timeout strikes. During that timeout, the program is repeatedly looking at /run/systemd/netif/links/1, but it does not change. The machine has four interfaces: lo, ens3, dummy1 and tun0. /run/systemd/netif/links/2 and /run/systemd/netif/links/3 are ens3 and dummy1, 4 is probably tun0, being the last created, and the state is ADDRESS_STATE=routable. But /run/systemd/netif/links/1 is strange. This should be lo, but lo is configured: 1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1000 link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever inet6 ::1/128 scope host valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever but /run/systemd/netif/links/1 is ADMIN_STATE=unmanaged OPER_STATE=carrier CARRIER_STATE=carrier ADDRESS_STATE=off So I thought that adding a netplan configuration for lo might help. Well, it doesn't. The strace is the same, except for the contents of the netif file. Please reopen this ticket and push it upstream. There is something uncouth about systemd-networkd-wait-online's relationship with lo. ** Attachment added: "wait-online.strace" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1779340/+attachment/5577039/+files/wait-online.strace -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779340 Title: systemd-networkd-wait-online.service Failed to start Wait for Network to be Configured with bridge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1779340/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
