[Bug 1973397] Re: Ubuntu 22.04: Display manager resets when trying to change it using gear icon in login window
Please remove nomodeset from /etc/default/grub and then run: sudo update-grub and reboot. "nomodeset" will prevent almost all graphics drivers from working - you don't want that. [Bug 1871148] Re: services start before apparmor profiles are loaded
Thanks Etienne, this is a bit surprising! Do I understand correctly, that on the slower machine (where you are seeing this bug) you will not be able to start firefox until you have run that apparmor_parser command? Not even if you try starting firefox well after the login? It's strange, because your logs show that the apparmor.service unit was started can you please also attach the output of these commands: sudo systemctl status apparmor sudo journalctl -b _SYSTEMD_UNIT=apparmor.service + SYSLOG_IDENTIFIER=audit And then also this (make sure you haven't previously started firefox in this boot): SNAPD_DEBUG=1 firefox And after that, let's have a look at the full system log (I have no clear idea what to look for, actually, but maybe I'll spot something suspicious): sudo journalctl -b -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871148 Title: services start before apparmor profiles are loaded To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/+bug/1871148/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Impact] 1. Upgrade path: Users will be upgrading from a package in the associated OEM archive, not the Ubuntu archive. 2. The background and impact of the situation for this change, and it's impact. [Testing] 1. Test that `ubuntu-drivers list-oem` lists the meta-package on the relevant hardware 2. Test that fully installing the meta-package (upgrading to the OEM archive if relevant) works properly on the hardware 3. Do an offline install. Boot the system. Run update-manager. [Bug 1975445] [NEW] Crash back to login screen when connecting external monitor in 22.04 LTS
Public bug reported: I upgraded my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS using do-release-upgrade -d command on 2022/05/20 And then my external monitor, who worked well before on 20.04 LTS, was never able to connect. [Bug 1970228] Re: Multiple vulnerabilities in Bionic, Focal and Jammy
Thanks for the updated patches - they look a lot better. Note, one thing we try and do is to add references to the patch files to indicate where they came from as per https://dep-team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep3/ - as an example see the update in http://launchpadlibrarian.net/596090586/subversion_1.14.1-3_1.14.1-3ubuntu0.1.diff.gz which shows these headers included in the new debian/patches/CVE- XXX.patch files which got added as part of that update. Including these also makes it a lot easier for reviewers to ensure that the changes are 'official' and match what the upstream. Also the debian/changelog entry is a bit terse compared to what we normally would do - as an example please see step 3 at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging However, in this case as you have already put a lot of work into these, I am happy to go with them as they are (although I am replacing the patches with the ones with dep-3 headers from the impish update linked above so we can keep as much attribution etc as possible). I will sponsor these later today/tomorrow. [Bug 1811538] [NEW] [2 new] Expansion: add U+2103 DEGREE CELSIUS and U+2109 DEGREE FAHRENHEIT
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu lacks the two characters U+2103 DEGREE CELSIUS and U+2109 DEGREE FAHRENHEIT. Bugs #1319543 and #736613 are about Ubuntu mono lacking these characters, but the non-mono font lacks them too. This is not often obvious, as on Ubuntu a fallback font is used. However it's not ideal since the C/F is obviously not in the Ubuntu typeface and the degrees symbol not the same size as in the Ubuntu font. Presumably in order to be compatible with mono fonts where the degree symbol would otherwise take up too much space, some apps are using these characters instead of the separate degrees and F/C characters. For example, gnome-weather, the weather-in-clock gnome-shell extension, and the weather in the dropdown calendar in gnome-shell all use it (see attached screenshot). When I first set up my computer I had box characters instead in these places, because I only had set up Ubuntu fonts and did not have any fallback fonts with these characters. Now that I've installed more fonts it is better, but obviously not ideal. I imagine it ought to be easier to fix this issue in the regular font than in the monospaced font, since fixed-width is not a requirement and so one can presumably just have it render the same as if the degrees and C/F characters were typed separately. ** Affects: fonts-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [2 new] Expansion: add U+2103 DEGREE CELSIUS and U+2109 DEGREE FAHRENHEIT https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1811538 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1860251] [NEW] Ubuntu Mono is too small
You have been subscribed to a public bug: EDIT: I don't believe this is as strongly related to px sizes or hidpi as I first suggested, but a more general issue. Many applications expect the user to configure font sizes in px units. For example, PyCharm, VSCode. In a hidpi screen (3000x2000) using 2x scaling factor, Ubuntu Mono looks considerably smaller than other popular monospaced fonts at the same px size. This is not only a problem of setting a different pixel size when one wants to use Ubuntu Mono but a much worse issue: complex applications often use heuristics to set font sizes of different elements of the GUI according to the base size set for the main font and having to scale Ubuntu Mono to px sizes larger than the usual ones distorts the size of other GUI elements to the point of ugliness or even unusability. For example: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/88916, but I have many similar problems with PyCharm also. ** Affects: fonts-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- Ubuntu Mono is too small https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1975433] [NEW] Allow skipping one LTS release, upgrading from version N.04LTS to N+2.04LTS
Public bug reported: While I am generally happy with LTS being stable, oftentimes I find myself in the need to upgrade one package to a more recent version. Most of the times the version I seek is not included in backports and instead published by individuals or orgs via ppa. Eventually this version gets included in the second next LTS release, so an alternative to third party sources is to perform a LTS upgrade. But Ubuntu only supports this LTS version to immediately next LTS release, while I have installed version N and the current version is N+2, so I must perform two upgrades to get that newer package, thus double the effort and time spent. I wish Ubuntu offered even unsupported a method to skip one intermediary LTS upgrade and allow direct LTS to LTS+2 upgrades, or find a way to provide LTS+2 popular packages to LTS releases. In my particular case I am struggling with a previously not reported issue of samba that crashes; their wiki asks to reproduce on a maintained version, while my current LTS and even the LTS+1 both ship discontinued versions. I tried running a maintained version from a third party ppa, but that doesn't ship a debugging package containing symbols which are required by upstream when submiting issues. I'd like to avoid getting dirty resorting to the ultimate solution of compiling from source. The network is working and I should be able to scp them to another server.
