[Bug 2067185] [NEW] Default NetworkManager Security Configuration for IPv6 Causes Severe Hang

2024-05-25 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 24.04 on my laptop, I noticed my boot was taking
about 2 minutes. After a lot of troubleshooting, I determined that when
I add a network connection through KDE, it has the IPv6 security set to
default. The default behavior is to apply IPv6 privacy settings. Running
NetPlan debug, this step takes around two minutes.

Setting the wireless connection configuration IPv6 privacy to
"disabled", my wireless connects instantly and my computer no longer
hangs for two minutes when booting.

When adding new wireless connections, however, the Plasma desktop also
freezes for about two minutes during this step until I can edit the
connection and disable the "default" privacy feature.

I'm not sure if this is due to a problem in KDE (should this setting be
disabled by default?) or in NetworkManager (should the "default"
configuration have this disabled?), in NetPlan (should it have something
in the default network configuration for all connections that set
`stable-privacy` (which seems to be the "disabled" option)?

Regardless, this process taking nearly two minutes, adding that to the
boot time, seems unacceptable.

[Bug 2051720]

2024-05-25 Thread pmenzel+bugzilla.kernel.org
(In reply to Nickolas Gupton from comment #32)

> this issue has been reported starting in 5.16 on the original bug linked that
> they closed and asked for someone to make a new issue if it was still
> present.

Bug 215167 [1] reports a regression in Linux 5.14, and the referenced
openSUSE report says at the end it should be fixed in 5.16.1.

Nickolas, thank you for attaching the full Linux logs. As the error from
the bug title is not present in the log, I recommend to close this
issue, and create a new one for your problem with a descriptive title
like *Bluetooth only starts working after reloading btusb and btintel*,
attaching all the files there. If you could bisect [3] the commit, that
would even get you there faster. The Bluetooth device can even be passed
to a virtual machine, and if the problem is reproducible there,
bisection is quite fast [4][5].

I am sorry about this, but unfortunately, the comments by others on
probably different issues, make it very hard and time consuming to
understanding the actual issue. It looks like the maintainers are
overworked and the subsystem has not enough resources. Still if you buy
a device with Intel hardware (and even better a device with official
GNU/Linux support), it’s valid to expect that Intel hardware works also
on GNU/Linux.

[Bug 2067180] [NEW] inability to enter certain craters in passwords when logging in.

2024-05-25 Thread Alexis
Public bug reported:

After starting Ubuntu, I wanted to connect to my account (let's say my password
is: Oppö1568). The normal behavior would be to enter my password and log in.

But it's impossible to enter the character ö (this also applies to
craters with ^: ê, â, ô, ...) instead of my password I have : Oppo1568 .
(Please note that this is not a keyboard configuration problem. The
problem of no longer being able to type the characters: ê, â, ô, ö, ë ,
ä, ... arrived with the Ubuntu update 24.04.

[Bug 2067170] [NEW] sddm in Ubuntu 24.04 completely breaks multi-seat login

2024-05-25 Thread dimanne
Public bug reported:

It looks like login session from a second seat does get initialised
properly. I have two seats logged in, and this is what I observe:

**Only one session is reported by loginctl**:

```
loginctl list-sessions
SESSION  UID USERSEAT  TTY
  4 1000 dimanne seat0 tty2
1 sessions listed.
```

**Directory `/run/user/1001` is not created for 2nd seat**.

**`DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS` of the second user is empty**.

**systemctl --user list-units prints**:
```
Failed to connect to bus: No medium found
```

**Finally, `loginctl session-status` says**:

```
Could not get properties: Unknown object 'org/freedesktop/login1/session/auto'
```

### Why it happens

I think this happens because sddm failed to properly initialise login
session.

This is how sddm logs look for "good" login:

I have found a solution. I removed

and restarted Thunderbird. The links are now working.

[Bug 2067163] [NEW] regression: sbsign crashes while signing an (EFI) image

2024-05-25 Thread dimanne
Public bug reported:

Reproduction:

Try signing a file using sbsign where key is stored on a Yubikey, it
will crash:

```
sbsign --engine pkcs11 --key 'pkcs11:manufacturer=piv_II;id=%02' --cert
./sb/db.crt --output ./sb/secboot-linux-latest.efi.signed
./sb/secboot-linux-latest.efi
It is likely that pkcs11.so is a "red herring" because I tried replacing
the library with an older library from a docker image (`docker cp
old_image /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/engines-3/pkcs11.so`) and it did NOT
fix the issue.
[Bug 2065827] Re: Screen is blinking at specific points. Its happening firefox app, application screen.
2024-05-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Bug reports raised against the Ubuntu project without
specifying a package will seldom result in any action being taken to
resolve an issue.
With no response to comment #2 I'm moving this to the gnome-shell
package which will at least bring this bug report to the attention of
Ubuntu's Desktop Team even if it is not the correct package.
Please now execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
  apport-collect 2065827
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
[Bug 2066227] Re: weired X11 behaviour
2024-05-25 Thread Paul White
In the absence of any action in response to comment #1 I'm moving this
to the gnome-shell package so that it at least comes to the attention of
Ubuntu's Desktop Team.
@thomaskr, please execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
  apport-collect 2066898
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
** Package changed: ubuntu => gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
** Tags added: noble
** Summary changed:
- weired X11 behaviour
+ Weird X11 behaviour
[Bug 2066898] Re: HP LaserJet CP1025 prints black text as blue in LibreOffice writer
2024-05-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
  apport-collect 2066898
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
As the reporter implies the issue is the fault of LibreOffice and with
no action in response to comment #1 I'm moving this to the LibreOffice
package on behalf of the reporter.
[Bug 2064909] Re: Lubuntu and Kubuntu 24.04 fail to decrypt on boot when installed on encrypted partition
2024-05-25 Thread Leigh Koven
So I came across this bug because I was *trying* to use a separate
unencrypted boot partition, but then calamares yelled at me with:
A separate boot partition was set up together with an encrypted root
partition, but the boot partition is not encrypted.
There are security concerns with this kind of setup, because important system
files are kept on an unencrypted partition.
You may continue if you wish, but filesystem unlocking will happen later during
system startup.
To encrypt the boot partition, go back and recreate it, selecting Encrypt in
the partition creation window.
My understanding from previous versions of Ubuntu that /boot needed to
be unencrypted, so I was a little surprised when the installer bugged me
to encrypt it. Since this apparently isn't actually properly possible,
can it be fixed to *not* tell me to do something I shouldn't do?
[Bug 2067159] [NEW] first login shows the ubuntu welcome dialog
2024-05-25 Thread raffaello bertini
Public bug reported:
Pleae see the reported bug here in gnome-kiosk:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-kiosk/-/issues/30
Steps to reproduce
  install a ubuntu server minimal
  install ubuntu-desktop-minimal and gnome-kiosk
  have an empty gnome-kiosk script
  reboot and log-in the first time with a user in gnome kiosk-mode (this
should be suffice, otherwise set an autologin for a user then reboot)
What happened
It shows the OS welcome screen: "Welcome to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS!"
This shouldn't happen.
Furthermore on that welcome screen clicking on change log open a firefox
instance and go to a URL.
This definetely should not happen as it is not a single app fullscreen mode.
What did GNOME Kiosk do that was unexpected?
showing the Ubuntu welcome dialog and opening firefox after clicking on
changelogs
What did you expect to happen
do not show the OS Welcome screen.
do not open any application/program/script except the only gnome-kiosk script.
[Bug 2067157] [NEW] Cannot set cpp alternatives link
2024-05-25 Thread Miren Radia
Public bug reported:
Copied from my Ubuntu answers question:
After starting the interactive docker container on my host machine using
docker container run -it ubuntu:noble /bin/bash
I ran the following commands
1. apt update
2. apt install cpp
3. update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/cpp cpp /usr/bin/cpp-13 13
I get the following output from the last command
update-alternatives: renaming cpp link from /lib/cpp to /usr/bin/cpp
update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/cpp-13 to provide /usr/bin/cpp (cpp) in
auto mode
update-alternatives: error: cannot stat file '/etc/alternatives/cpp': Too many
levels of symbolic links
The link /usr/bin/cpp also no longer exists.
The above commands work fine in the Ubuntu 22.04 docker container (well
with cpp-11).
Still an issue in 24.04 and the suggested command
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash intel_iommu=on,igfx_off"
Did not resolve the issue.  System is an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 with a
NVIDIA 1030 GT card installed.  Video over GPU works but no audio and
not listed as an option.
[Bug 2067143] [NEW] ‘no signal’ after monitor sleep or monitor turned off
2024-05-25 Thread Havard Bjastad
Public bug reported:
The problem and a workaround is well described here:
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/ubuntu-20-04-no-signal-after-
monitor-sleep-or-monitor-turned-off/180056
My laptop is connected to an external monitor (Dell) via HDMI. When the
laptop is left idle for some time, the screen goes black and the monitor
reports "no signal". When I press a keyboard button or move the mouse,
the laptop screen comes on...but the monitor still receives no signal.
Workaround 1 is to unplug and replug the HDMI cable.
Workaround 2 is to press ctrl-alt-F3 to get into a text-based console, and then
ctrl-alt-F1 or F2 to get back to graphical mode
My laptop has Intel GPU, not Nvidia, so this seems to be a problem with Ubuntu.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
[Bug 2067141] [NEW] ubuntu 24.04 - Wayland - i915 firmware not loaded correctly
2024-05-25 Thread Ionut Negru
Public bug reported:
After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to Ubuntu 24.04, I could no longer use
Wayland. Logging in with Wayland resulted in a black screen.
A potential cause of the issue was that the update-initramfs procedure
reported some missing i915 modules.
The folder /lib/firmware/i915 contained all the modules in a compressed
format (.zst files), but the system was unable to load them.
I manually copied the uncompressed versions from the 10th of April,
downloaded from linux-firmware.git, and the system, including Wayland,
started working again.
I believe this issue might be related to the compressed modules option,
and perhaps someone knows how to resolve it without this workaround
[Bug 2067138] [NEW] Dir::Cache=/dev/null chmods /dev/null
2024-05-25 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:
[Impact]
If you set Dir::Cache or Dir::Cache::pkgcache to /dev/null, /dev/null is
chmodded as we chmod the cache file to 666. This is a semi-common pattern to
not use a cache, and breaks user scripts.
[Test plan]
1. autopkgtests run the large integration test suite
2. run manually
[Where problems could occur]
We have eliminated writing the cache to /dev/null entirely:
It's possible we may introduce issues later because something in there
does fancy bits and the cache in memory becomes invalid, but so far I
only saw that we calculate the hash in there, but we set dirty
afterwards and don't actually use the cache hash if we don't load from
disk so I think in reality this is not a problem, at least now. Just
gotta be careful to not stuff anything other than writing in there.
[Bug 2067134] [NEW] Request for backport to Jammy to build Chromium on ARM
2024-05-25 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:
Hi, I'd like to request a backport of the newest bindgen to 22.04.
The build of Chromium 126 is failing[1] on ARM with
--->
:: error: Found argument '--allowlist-item' which wasn't expected, or isn't
valid in this context
::   Did you mean --allowlist-function?
::
:: USAGE:
<---
On x64, that doesn't fail because Google's provided Rust tool-chain is
used, which is more recent — its 'bindgen --version' reports 0.69.4.
Google does not provide it for ARM.
[Bug 2067131] [NEW] Upgrading hangs when NFS mounts are present
2024-05-25 Thread Julian Edwards
Public bug reported:
When upgrading to 24.04 today, the process stalled when it got to os-
prober checks for other installed OSes.
As far as I can determine, this was because the network connection was
completely destroyed during upgrade leaving the machine without
connectivity, and when os-prober runs it erroneously attempts to look
inside NFS mounts. Since there is no connectivity, it will apparently
stall forever on this while the kernel logs a lot of errors to syslog.
[Bug 2067130] [NEW] Taking picture crashes Snapshot
2024-05-25 Thread Connor Nolan
Public bug reported:
When I take a picture, it immediately crashes. Interestingly, it
successfully saves the photo before crashing.
This occurs with a USB HDMI capture device
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09FLN63B3). It does not detect my
laptop's webcam at all, but that appears to be a known bug.
I have attached a (10 MB!) GDB backtrace. It appears to get stuck in an
infinite loop.
