[Bug 2069486] [NEW] [snap] Firefox snap is reinstalled on a new release
Public bug reported: I have removed the Firefox snap and installed through the official Mozilla apt repositories as instructed here [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w_install- firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions] but there are two annoyances that I've come across so far: 1. Upon installation by `apt` I have to add the `--allow-downgrades` even though the apt version has exactly the same version as snap one 2. Everytime a new version is released, the snap package is reinstalled and takes over the deb package one when clicking the desktop shortcut to launch. I guess all of these stem from the issue that Ubuntu somehow treats the Snap variant as the newer release! AFAIK this is special to Ubuntu 24.04 and did not notice such behavior on 22.04. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: firefox noble snap -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069486 Title: [snap] Firefox snap is reinstalled on a new release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2069486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi i found something funny why my Dolphin is not updating the view. I just found it comfy to put a shortcut of the PAPERBIN on my Desktop. After this Dolphin was not updating the view!!! After removing the PAPERBIN shortcut on my desktop (i put it in Paperbins ;-) ) Dolphin is working like normal and view is updated! As i am no expert to fix this problem or look at it its up to the professionals. SELinux and AppArmor both do pretty significant configuration during early boot, I can't imagine that live switching between the two at runtime is going to be well supported by anything. If you intend to replace AppArmor with SELinux, you should do that via the kernel command line flags so that the early configuration is correct. [Bug 2060676] Re: login: remove pam_lastlog.so from config
Andrei, try to log in via multiple methods. Every service (ssh, login, gdm, xdm, etc) has its own PAM configuration and some of them may reference this module and some may not. Once you've logged in, edit the files in /etc/pam.d/ that reference this module. Remove or comment them out. Save, then test. [Bug 2069478] [NEW] Increased lock contention in aa_{get,set}_buffer
Public bug reported: After upgrading our images from 5.15.0-1052-aws to 5.15.0-1053-aws we've noticed increased CPU usage caused by lock contention in the AppArmor code paths. We've since continued upgraded past that, but the problem persisted. Digging more, we've found that rapid (parallel) invocation of getaddrinfo was the cause of the contention (via openat, stat, etc syscalls) and thereby spinning on that lock, which in turn maxed the CPU of those instances. This is on c6i.24xlarge instances, so 96 CPUs. I'm attaching a perf flamegraph of the exact stacktraces we're seeing. We did not expect a patch-level kernel upgrade to cause this increased CPU usage, however we managed to work around this issue via caching, so this report is more informational/checking if this was intended. Looking at the upstream kernel it seems like this eventually got fixed with per- CPU buffers. The only related changes we've found in the diffs between these two versions were the addition of AppArmor checking for mqueues, which I don't believe we're using explicitly anywhere. I'm not sure if that change had other effects though. This is all on Ubuntu 20.04 with the AWS-specific kernel package, although I'm assuming it applies to the Ubuntu kernel generally. I was unable to do the mapping to the "real" release versions though, so reporting in this package since I got the exact version numbers. ** Affects: linux-aws (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Flamegraph of stacktraces with contention" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069478/+attachment/5789701/+files/Perf%20Flamegraph.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069478 Title: Increased lock contention in aa_{get,set}_buffer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+bug/2069478/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064843] Re: Brick SEGFAULTs in 11.1
Thanks, I added a small conclusion to make it clear what we expect. Please keep in mind that once the packages in noble-proposed are built, those are the ones that need testing, even if your local builds have the same patch, ok? Thanks again ** Description changed: [ Impact ] * Users experience brick SEGFAULTs under certain not-yet-understood scenarios. Some reports include a high percentage of small file I/O. I encountered the issue roughly every hour with Minio backed by GlusterFS on ZFS. * This bug introduces an increased risk of data loss or corruption depending on the user's configuration and timing of brick crashes. * Core dumps from multiple users revealed that the SEGFAULTs are caused by a stack overflow when namespaced inodes are destroyed. * The patch removes the recursive call to inode_unref when a namespaced inode is destroyed. [ Test Plan ] * I experienced brick crashes on specific volumes about once per hour. On my system, this issue only impacted a locally mounted volume backing a Minio instance (an S3 API compatible server) used by Restic clients (an incremental backup system with lots of small file creations and deletions). Other volumes served with NFS Ganesha with primarily large file random access never triggered it. * I attempted to replicate the workload by running various file system benchmarking tools within their own user namespace (i.e. lots of small file creations and deletion) but was not able to replicate the crash. * I've been running the proposed patch since 2024-05-06 and haven't experienced a single crash. + Therefore, the test plan is to run the packages from proposed for at + least a day, under the same load as when the bug happened, and confirm + that the crashes reported in this bug no longer happen. + [ Where problems could occur ] * It's conceivable that this patch introduces undesired behavior when inodes are destroyed, however I highly doubt this scenario as __inode_destroy was not recursive before the change which introduced the bug. [ Other Info ] * PR which introduced the bug: https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/pull/1763 * PR which added this patch: https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/pull/4302 * Issue discussion: https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/issues/4295 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064843 Title: Brick SEGFAULTs in 11.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glusterfs/+bug/2064843/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2069474] [NEW] CMake project with C++ part & use CapnProto fails to configure with "libatomic not found"
Public bug reported: The following CMakeLists.txt demonstrate the problem: ``` cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 3.16) project(capnproto-test CXX) find_package(CapnProto REQUIRED) ``` When simply running `cmake`, the following error is printed: ``` -- Looking for __atomic_load_8 in atomic -- Looking for __atomic_load_8 in atomic - not found CMake Error at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/CapnProto/CapnProtoConfig.cmake:108 (message): libatomic not found Call Stack (most recent call first): CMakeLists.txt:3 (find_package) ``` If, instead, `CXX` is removed from `project()` call, `cmake` succeeds. Ryan Ofsky from libmultiprocess project has an analysis available at [1]. Basically, it's due to CMake's `check_library_exists()` checking for symbol in C++ namespace instead of C namespace. So I'm not sure if this is ultimately CMake's or CapnProto's fault. But since `check_library_exists()` is added by a Debian-specific patch, I file this issue against CapnProto. [Bug 2040483] Re: AppArmor denies crun sending signals to containers (stop, kill)
Preempting an SRU analysis of this bug, for noble, I would ask for more clarification: - make it clearer that while bin:podman has the apparmor profile bits that need fixing, they come from src:golang-github-containers-common. In other words, both packages need to be SRUed, and src:golang-github-containers-common needs to be updated first, land in proposed, and then src:libpod can be rebuilt - just upgrading the bin:podman package with the fix is not enough: it looks like the loading of the profile is gated on the version number, as shown by the profile name: "containers-default-0.57.4". I haven't tested this, but I think that if that version changed, then when starting a new container with the new podman, the new profile would be loaded, instead of taking the one already loaded into the kernel. Perhaps we could mangle that version to incorporate an ubuntu suffix for such cases like this SRU, where we are fixing the apparmor profile? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2040483 Title: AppArmor denies crun sending signals to containers (stop, kill) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-github-containers-common/+bug/2040483/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2069473] [NEW] Some Button Text Does Not Display with 6.1 Release
Public bug reported: The version of libgdiplus that ships with Ubuntu 24.04 causes a display error in KeePass 2 and likely other mono applications such as quickroute-gps. In KeePass it causes an important multi-option dialog box to display three buttons with no text in them. I've tracked down the change where the problem started. The problem started with the change to this line: https://salsa.debian.org/dotnet- team/libgdiplus/-/commit/09def42ba0bce63c1e1d372f86ba869b6a1cf2a3#87db583be5c13c1f7b3c958b10e03d67b6a2ca06_67_74 The removal of ` && pango <= $PANGO_MAX_VERSION` causes libgdiplus to be compiled with libpango support. When this line is restored (along with the PANGO_MAX_VERSION declaration), the problem goes away. I verified the prior release of libgdiplus was not compiled with libpango support by running `strings /usr/lib/libgdiplus.so | grep pango`. The output of this command returns very different and convincing results on Ubuntu 22.04 versus Ubuntu 24.04. I can't find a way to disable libpango support without changing configure.ac. I'll attached screen shots showing the button differences. Please let me know if you have any questions or need more information. ** Affects: libgdiplus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "keePass2WithPango-20240614.1.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069473/+attachment/5789659/+files/keePass2WithPango-20240614.1.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069473 Title: Some Button Text Does Not Display with 6.1 Release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgdiplus/+bug/2069473/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tested the fix, it's actually ready to sponsor, but I don't know how real deployments out there could use this fix once it's available. The profile is not a file on disk, it's inside the podman binary. There is nothing reloading the fixed profile when the package is upgraded or installed, it's only loaded when a container is created. But if I start a new container with the new podman, it also won't load the new fixed apparmor profile: it will use the one that is already loaded into the kernel (the wrong one).
