[Bug 583797] Re: Firefox closed multiple tabs without warning

2011-05-27 Thread Avi Greenbury
I see the same behaviour, also in a new profile for testing.

I get a warning on using the 'x' in the corner, but not on ctrl+q

[Bug 788321] [NEW] Full screen in unity leaves a gap for the launcher

2011-05-25 Thread Avi Greenbury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: geeqie

When I make Geeqie go full screen, it leaves a space for the launcher
which is hidden, so there's a strip down the left of not-full-screened.

This doesn't seem to affect anything else, so I don't think it's a
unity-wide bug. Perhaps it's down to some peculiarity in the way geeqie
full-screens.

[Bug 788350] [NEW] alt+f2 implies it can run utter nonsense

2011-05-25 Thread Avi Greenbury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

If you enter into the run box of the alt-f2 dialog something that's not
a command, the 'results' section makes it look like it *is* a command

To reproduce:
1. hit alt+f2

3. see exactly what you just entered under 'Results'

[Bug 784753] Re: second crop undoes the first

2011-05-24 Thread Avi Greenbury
The behaviour I was expecting is exactly as if clicking 'OK' to the crop
also triggered a file save. I expected that clicking the crop tool again
would let me crop the now-cropped image yet further, rather than
reattempt the last crop.

I suppose the easiest way to replicate this behaviour is to just hit
ctrl+s just after OKing the crop, and then try another crop.

Thinking about it, giving another go at the first crop doesn't seem such a
weird idea any more, but it's still completely not what I'd expect to happen on
clicking the 'crop' tool.

[Bug 784753] Re: second crop undoes the first

2011-05-19 Thread Avi Greenbury
I've taken a screencast of the behaviour, which might help.

This is in the viewer component - where you right click on an image in
Nautilus or whatever and choose 'Open With' then 'Shotwell Viewer', not
Shotwell proper (I've no idea if the interface is at all the same
there).

[Bug 784752] [NEW] crop 'custom' dialog doesn't give units or axes

2011-05-18 Thread Avi Greenbury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shotwell

When cropping an image in Shotwell viewer using the 'Custom' layout, the
dialog that pops up asks for two dimensions, but doesn't say what the
measurement is (pixels, mm, inches etc.) or which applies to which axis.

[Bug 784753] [NEW] second crop undoes the first

2011-05-18 Thread Avi Greenbury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shotwell

When cropping an image, I tend to make a rough crop to close to what I
want, then, able to zoom to closer to actual-size, make a more accurate
second crop.

In shotwell viewer, when I click 'crop' for the second time it assumes I
want to undo the previous crop (despite the crop being in the undo
list), and there doesn't appear to be a way to have it let me make
successive crops without saving in-between.

At the time of the second crop, the 'crop' button isn't a button for
cropping - it's an 'undo crop' or, perhaps 'have another go at that
crop' button.

To reproduce:
* Open an image in shotwell viewer
* Click 'crop' from the bar at the bottom again, and crop the image but don't
save the file
* Click 'crop' on the bar at the bottom again

I installed kubuntu-desktop and then logged in to KDE. The default

[Bug 784761] Re: identify outputs doesn't identify outputs

2011-05-18 Thread Avi Greenbury
I'd expected the monitor on DVI-0 to be labelled as the monitor on
DVI-0, and the one on DVI-1 to be labelled as being on DVI-1 so I could
tell the config thingy which one should be to the left of the other.

I don't think I've ever felt particular need to identify which monitor
or output is named as which except for those times when both are
behaving in exactly the same way and I'd like them to not be - when one
is configured in a position relative to another, I can identify which is
which by moving the mouse around, for example.

I seem to recall Gnome's monitor identification thing displaying a
different label on each monitor - I've not got it to hand at the minute,
but I'd have filed a bug there, too, had I noticed :) - is there some
fundamental difference in how KDE and Gnome do multi displays?

Either way, it might be what's expected from a technical standpoint (in that,
from some part of X's point of view they *are* the same), but I suspect the
average user (such as myself) would expect it to, well, identify the outputs.
It just struck me as a spectacularly useless button when I clicked on it and
each output appeared to claim to be both...

[Bug 730556] Re: Turning off open new chats in separate windows not always works

2011-04-03 Thread Avi Greenbury
I find this happens also when I've a conversation window on a workspace
I'm not on, and someone talks to me. I click on the green envelope in
the notification area and select their name, and get a brand new window
on my current workspace.

Even when I've set the 'original' conversation window to appear on all
workspaces, this happens as long as that window is not in focus, but
appears to not when it is in focus.

This happens even with all involved contacts being on the same account.

[Bug 305895] Re: SATA ALPM link power management setting not detected properly

2010-12-06 Thread Avi Kelman
The problem is that the code for powertop always suggests catting to
host0 if it finds something other than min_power in ANY of
/sys/class/scsi_host/host*/link_power_management_policy

My host0/... has min_power, but host1/... et al have max_performance, so
powertop complains about host0 because it's a hardcoded string.

[Bug 685338] [NEW] Cannot ignore pressing of hibernate button

2010-12-04 Thread Avi Greenbury
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have an inappropriately placed hibernate button on my keyboard, I
therefore want to tell Gnome to ignore my pressing of it and do nothing.

Gnome power manager preferences only offers me the choice of hibernating
or going into standby. It should also, at the very least, offer the
option of ignoring my pressing of the button. More ideal would be to
enter a command to run when I press it.

[Bug 674996] [NEW] doesn't activate the/a thesaurus in openoffice.org

2010-11-13 Thread Avi Greenbury
Public bug reported:

Using the 'standard' install of OOo in Maverick, I wanted to add a UK
thesaurus. Apparently the UK and US ones are merged, so the package
openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us should install what I'm after. I did

apt-get install openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us then stopped OOo and started it
and expected to go Tools-Language-Thesaurus to use the thesaurus.
The 'Thesaurus' item in the menu is still greyed out.

It is unclear what to do next in order to actually use the thesaurus.

Also, if this really is also a UK thesaurus, mightn't it be worth naming it
such that it's less obviously wrong for someone after a UK thesaurus?

[Bug 663382] [NEW] xterm doesn't display inputted text properly

[Bug 663382] Re: xterm doesn't display inputted text properly

2010-10-19 Thread Avi Greenbury
It's bad when you type it in. If you then switch focus to another
window, and back to xterm, it's fine. But any subsequently-entered text
is bad, again until the focus changes away and back again.

I'm not convinced this is a problem in xterm itself now, but I've no
idea what it is in.

[Bug 658560] Re: Kernel Oops with Maverick in ahci_stop_engine

2010-10-12 Thread Avi Carmi
Thank you for your help.

I believe that I have the latest BIOS. No I don't, upgrading to A08
dated 9/17/10 right now.

I am not sure how to change kernels, do I use the update manager?

I have only two kernels in the boot choice (plus memtest and the old
Windows partition), and only the older kernel is bootable.

I am afraid that if I add another kernel, the older (working one) will
be deleted, and I'll end up with two bad kernels

Is there a way to keep more than two kernels?

Same DELL Precision T3500

there is a new A08 BIOS dated 9/17/10 available from Dell, which I'll
install as soon as I am done posting.

however... found this too in

 doesn't
boot 2.6.34 without the proposed patches. So still no BIOS fix...

the above also have list of patches, but I'll have to recall how to
apply patches and compile the kernel, last time I've done it was years
ago RHEL 5 or 6, so spoiled now by Ubuntu

found this yet in another thread:
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/647043/comments/14

which has a link to a patched test kernel, with the same list of
patches:

I had Lisa do a series of tests. We subsequently discovered a series of
patches that have been submitted upstream but are a bit invasive (ie. they
won't land in upstream 2.6.36, and will likely have to wait for 2.6.37).

Patch : https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/189242/

I've subsequently built a test kernel with the above patches applied. Lisa
has confirmed this fixes the issue and the

I have the same identical problem as Matt (and Trigger, see:

there is a new A08 BIOS dated 9/17/10 available from Dell, which I'll
install as soon as I am done posting.

[Bug 658560] Re: Kernel Oops with Maverick in ahci_stop_engine

2010-10-11 Thread Avi Carmi
Dell T3500

worked just fine with 10.04

upgraded to 10.10 using update manager, and it won't boot. I get white
text on black background, not even sure what I am looking at... dropped
me into some kind of shell?

tried booting from the 10.10 install CD (which I burned to install on
another machine) also won't boot off the install CD

get the Ubuntu logo, with dots underneath, then it again drops me into a
shell.

back to booting from disk, but this time choosing the older kernel on
the boot menu, and it booted up just fine. and seems to work fine.

not an expert, not sure what's wrong, and how to report this in more
details.

[Bug 571678] Re: No plymouth graphical boot on Intel GPU

2010-10-04 Thread Avi Kelman
The FRAMEBUFFER=y thing works for my Thinkpad x201i in 10.10rc. Prior to
that, I had no /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash file and no entries
for plymouth in initrd. Now I do. I guess the one causes the other. Like
#10, I also have the nothing but a black screen and a flashing cursor
situation between my thinkpad screen and plymouth.

[Bug 626030] [NEW] lirc does not have support for ITE8708 receiver

[Bug 578937] Re: package noip2 2.1.9-3 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso script post-installati on instalado devolvió el código de salida de err or 1

2010-05-12 Thread Avi Rozen
The log file shows that noip2 was indeed stopped:

Preparando para reemplazar noip2 2.1.9-3 (usando .../noip2_2.1.9-3_amd64.deb)
...
 * Stopping No-IP.com dynamic address update noip2
   ...done.

The actual problem here seems to be that the noip2 executable generates
its configuration file in the wrong place, namely '/usr/local/etc/no-
ip2.conf', instead of '/var/lib/noip2/noip2.conf'. This shouldn't happen
(TM).

Please run the following command, and report back its output:

strings /usr/bin/noip2 | grep ip2\.conf

Just to make sure: have you, by any chance, compiled the package
yourself?

4) during channel list downloading (it takes more than 10 seconds at my home),
press PAGEUP to scroll the channels list and weechat will crash!

[Bug 531027] Re: GLIB WARNING ** GLib - getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

2010-04-16 Thread Avi Greenbury
I get the same error message on boot. For a while I'd avoid it by using
a particular kernel, (2.6.32-16 I *think*) but since updating today all
installed kernels do it (31-20, 32-16, 32-21).

I get the error message, hit any key to get to the 'Xubuntu' screen with
'keys:' under it, then ctrl-alt-f* to get to a tty and startx. It
appears to work, but I don't know why.

[Bug 197288] Re: [hardy] new windows are put in background when a window has always on top set

2009-10-11 Thread Avi Schwartz
I have the same problem with 9.04. Setting focus_new_windows to strict
does not help and I don't have anything set to always on top. When I
turn on Compiz it works fine. This is extremely annoying since so many
times I click on something and when nothing seems to happen I click dew
more times just to find out later that I have many new windows open in
the background.

[Bug 283658] Re: grip buffer overflow in intrepid

2009-01-31 Thread Avi Schwartz
Hajime, are you sure it has to do with the genre? In my case the genre
was Classical and it still crashed.

in any case your patch seems to work in most situation but there is
still a problem although I am not sure it is related.

If the track name is very long, that is greater then 95 characters, the
file name gets truncated and the ripped and encoded file names end up
being the same causing the encoding to fail since it is overwriting the
ripped file.

[Bug 274479] Re: ip not being updated and expiring

2008-09-25 Thread Avi Rozen
It does not seem to be a client limitation: the client can't update the
host when the IP has not changed, because, apparently, the no-ip server
does not allow it. That's at least how I read it.

The no-ip free service is limited this way.
Silly? maybe. Bug? hardly. It looks and smells deliberate.

I suggest you take this up with no-ip support.

Good luck.

[Bug 239930] Re: scanner port detection

2008-09-16 Thread Avi
Thanks for this thread, Peter B.

I had precisely the same issue with my Epson Perfection 3490 -- but with
a Twist. I recently had a short power outage (actually just a blown
circuit breaker). Because the computer did not power down properly, the
scanner was not sent a power-down signal, and I began getting the
snapscan libusb invalid argument error. Logging out and in, or
rebooting Linux, did not solve them problam.

It's a dual-boot machine, and booting into XP and back into Linux solved
the problem.

Does any one know whether there is a way to reset the scanner by sending
the power-down and power-up signals to the scanner using sane-utils or
some other Linux program?

[Bug 249285] [NEW] In Gutsy mod_defensible has a bug preventing apache from serving requests

2008-07-16 Thread Avi Schwartz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libapache2-mod-defensible

Ubuntu 7.10
Package: libapache2-mod-defensibleVersion: 1.3-1

Once this module is activated apache no longer serves php pages and
instead users are offered to download the page. It seems that this is a
result of this module's failure. In the error.log the following is
displayed:

apache2: udns_resolver.c:477: dns_free: Assertion `ctx != ((void *)0)  ctx !=
dns_defctx' failed.
[Wed Jul 16 20:09:31 2008] [notice] child pid 3060 exit signal Aborted (6)

I found a similar bug report on Debian that said that this problem was
fixed in newer release of this package so I installed the version of
mod_defensible from Ubuntu 8.04 and this solved the problem.

Could you please port the new version (1.4-2) to 7.10 so other will not
have to go through this steps?

** Affects: libapache2-mod-defensible (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 243676] [NEW] Hardy: Dell D820 stops hibernating after couple of times

2008-06-27 Thread Avi Schwartz
Public bug reported:

With Hardy my Dell Latitude D820 laptop successfully hibernates couple
of times before it fails to hibernate again. The laptop stays on and
reverts to the password screen as if it is waking up from hibernation.
