[Bug 1824407] Re: remount of multilower moved pivoted-root overlayfs root, results in I/O errors on some modified files

2019-11-06 Thread Adam Conrad
While there may be arguments for synthesizing UUIDs in various fs
drivers, or creating them in the first place in fs-creation tools, I
agree that if overlayfs has a hard dependency on UUIDs for uniquely
identifying layers, it needs to fill in the gaps where the previous
tools/drivers failed to provide.

So, yeah, I think Colin's on the right track here with making overlayfs
itself fix its own use-case, which will cover any future filesystem/tool
that otherwise fails to UUID itself.

My only review of the above is that you might want to mix a monotonic or
random seed in with your superblock when generating your fake UUIDs, in
case someone does something like stacking multiple empties on top of
each other, or some other madness where you effectively have the same
superblock more than once at the RO level, but need to identify them as
different.

[Bug 1844155] Re: arm64: sigaltstack fails with MINSIGSTKSZ for 32-bit processes

2019-11-05 Thread Adam Conrad
I completely missed the verification ping here in the sea of other
kernel bug mail that I get. Will work with the LP team to get this
verified as quickly as I can, but if you need to make a revert/ship call
before I can, the patches should be pretty harmless even if they don't
fix the bug, so I'd vote for keep and ship and we can fix later if we
missed a bit.

[Bug 1851346] [NEW] Ubuntu Studio 19.10 Installer Causes Wanted Programs to be Removed

2019-11-05 Thread Adam Thomas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Studio's Installer has a feature where you can select and
deselect programs you would like to be pre-installed on your system.

However, whenever I deselect some programs, after I finish installing
the system and then boot into it for the first time apt wants to remove
a load of my programs with its autoremove feature.

This includes programs I do intend to use and did not deselect. For
example; I deselected Blender, and then Kdenlive (which I do want to
use, and hadn't deselected) also got deleted.

I explain it better in a video I did on Ubuntu Studio 19.10:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz_bwpPXXBc go to timestamp 1:18 which
is where I begin to explain the problem.

Thanks in Advance!

I was unable to reproduce this issue in a current Xenial installation,

[Bug 1833618] Re: MAAS can't deploy Ubuntu if ID_SERIAL of any block device is broken (USB pendrive in this case).

2019-11-04 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Patricia, or anyone else affected,

Accepted sg3-utils into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sg3-utils/1.42-2ubuntu1.18.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1850851] [NEW] [SRU] ubuntu-release-upgrader no longer produces tarballs

2019-10-31 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

[ SRU Justification ]
ubuntu-release-upgrades was unintentionally relying on a debhelper
bug/misfeature where mixing and matching dh(1) and explicit make targets would
lead "dh binary" to call a binary-indep target in debian/rules, despite no
dependency being declared. This dh(1) misfeature went away when arch/indep
handling was reworked in debhelper 12.5, and ubuntu-release-upgrader's
binary-indep target (which generated the release-upgrader tarball) hasn't been
called since.

[ Test Case ]
1) Make sure the release-upgrader tarball is built, included in .changes, and
published to the archive.
2) debdiff .deb binaries from this upload and the last to ensure nothing else
has gone amiss.

[ Regression Potential ]
Fairly low. This is just fixing some broken assumptions about makefiles and
debhelper to deterministically return us to the situation we were arriving at
by accident before.

[ Other Info ]
In doing this, and testing interaction between arch and indep targets and dh(1)
itself, I noted that there were a few more small fixes to be made which are
no-ops in the current package, but are ticking time-bombs if the package ever
grows a non-arch-all package, so I'm including those fixes too.

2019-10-30 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Łukasz, or anyone else affected,

Accepted livecd-rootfs into bionic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-
rootfs/2.525.33 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

2019-10-25 Thread Adam Barton
Same on dell Latitude E7470, only appeared after upgrading to eoan.

Still present after installing backport-iwlwifi-dkms

Without backport-iwlwifi-dkms iwconfig showed power management on.
After backport it shows no results.

Wifi still functions but crashes randomly.

[Bug 1848848] Re: Firmware for Radeon RX5700 (navi10) missing / boot failure

2019-10-22 Thread Adam Conrad
@sforshee: Given the severity of this issue, and that it's only adding
new files, I'm inclined to say we fasttrack the release, but I'd also
like to see a follow-up upload that includes the missing files the
drivers reference (if they exist), or patch the drivers to stop
referencing them (if they don't, and won't).

Any opinions on both those things?

[Bug 1843743] Re: klibc ftbfs in eoan

2019-10-21 Thread Adam Conrad
** Description changed:

- amd64.klibc_2.0.6-1ubuntu1_BUILDING.txt.gz
+ [ SRU Justification / Impact ]
+ klibc is FTBFS in eoan. As we have a history of SRUing klibc to add new
features, we should probably make sure it's buildable.
+
+ [ Test Case ]
+ If it builds, we win. Should also test that a machine with the new klibc
installed still boots.
+
+ [ Regression Potential ]
+ One patch is just adding a missing include, and the other is altering the
build of a stub only used to determine which syscalls are availble, a part of
the build that will cause the rest of the build to fail if it's generated
incorrectly. Regression potential should be very low.

Derp, this was the hint I needed. The attached patch fixes the build on
Ubuntu, though I can't think of a good way to upstream this, as the
compiler option in question isn't available throughout history.
Probably needs a test of some sort.

pulling them in, that's not ideal.

[Bug 1847898] Re: System doesn't boot after installation - Legacy mode / 2 disks

2019-10-14 Thread Adam Conrad
We reproduced this in eoan, and then went on to also reproduce it in
disco, meaning it's not a regression, and therefor not RC for eoan.

It is, however, really bad UX, and I want to make sure we do this better
for 20.04.

2019-10-14 Thread Adam Conrad
20191012 is the only one where this is expected to work, however for
other hilarious reasons, you need to boot in the live session, upgrade
to ubiquity from eoan-proposed (19.10.20), then run the installer.

This should all be in better shape with tonight's images when we spin
them (expected serial of 20191014)

[Bug 1846555] [NEW] libreoffice-style-hicontrast not installable due to libreoffice-style-sifr relationships

2019-10-03 Thread Adam Conrad
Public bug reported:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libreoffice-style-hicontrast : Depends: libreoffice-style-sifr but it is not
going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

libreoffice-style-hicontrast is a transitional package whose intent is
to upgrade people to libreoffice-style-sifr. Unfortunately, that
upgrade will never happen, because the latter conflicts with the former,
preventing them from being co-installed.

Provides: libreoffice-style, libreoffice-style-hicontrast
Replaces: libreoffice-style-hicontrast
Conflicts: libreoffice-style-hicontrast

This should almost certainly be:

Provides: libreoffice-style, libreoffice-style-hicontrast (= ${binary:Version})
Replaces: libreoffice-style-hicontrast (<< ${binary:Version})
Breaks: libreoffice-style-hicontrast (<< ${binary:Version})

(Note the switch from Conflicts to Breaks, and making the whole thing
versioned, so it doesn't apply to the transitional package of the same
version).

[Bug 1837254] Please test proposed package

2019-09-26 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted livecd-rootfs into xenial-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-
rootfs/2.408.54 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1844132] Re: FFe: Mesa 19.2.0

Mmkay, based on the above, I say go for it. It'll miss beta (unless we
have reason to respin, I guess), but such is life.

[Bug 1844132] Re: FFe: Mesa 19.2.0

2019-09-23 Thread Adam Conrad
1) Are you confident that you'll get enough testing to find any meaningful
regressions, and have enough time to fix them before release?
2) Is there an upstream point release planned by October, or does their slip
mean we'll see .1 as an SRU a month post-release?

I'm a tentative +1 on this anyway just for the Ice Lake and Navi
support, which we'll also want for the next bionic point release, but
better answers to the above would help me be sure.

[Bug 1844853] [NEW] IBus no longer works in Qt applications after upgrade

2019-09-20 Thread Adam Kastner
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Release 18.04.3 LTS

Expected behavior:
ibus continues working as before after applying security update
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1 from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5.

Observed behavior:
ibus is not usable anymore in Qt applications.

After updating ibus and the related packages ibus-gtk, ibus-gtk3, libibus-1.0-5
and gir1.2-ibus-1.0 all from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5 to 1.5.17-ubuntu5.1, I can
no longer use ibus in Qt applications. Using shift-space no longer changes the
selected input method and even when i switch to the mozc input method in a gtk
application, i can not use it in any Qt applications.
When starting qtconfig in a terminal, I also get the following message:

Bus::open: Connect ibus failed!
IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

This bug was not present in version 1.5.17-3ubuntu5 and I also confirmed
that downgrading the packages to version 1.5.17-3ubuntu4 restores ibus
functionality in Qt applications.
