[Bug 563275] [NEW] HP Pavilion dv3 does not shut down when requested (KDE 4.4, Lucid Lynx Beta2)
Public bug reported: Tried the Kubuntu Lucid Lynx Beta 2 LiveCD on my HP Pavilion dv3-2150us laptop. When selecting 'shutdown' from the K menu, the shutdown noise played and then nothing happened. Subsequent attempts to shut down or restart from the K menu failed. Nothing happened when I pressed the power button either. This may be linked to an audio problem wherein the audio was on half- second stutter/repeat. After playing a song in Dolphin preview and then hitting stop, the last half-second snippet continued to play until another sound was selected; the same half-second stutter happened on the shutdown noise. I have previously had problems with KDE shutdown and audio; there used to be circumstances where KDE shutdowns were waiting for a shutdown sound that never played or never finished playing, for some reason. I have not tested disabling the shutdown sound (or killing the sound server prior to shutdown). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- HP Pavilion dv3 does not shut down when requested (KDE 4.4, Lucid Lynx Beta2) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 465672] Re: KDE won't shut down
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 401535 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/401535 It doesn't work for me... With PulseAudio set as the preferred sound device and Xine as the backend I still get no sound whatsoever, and no failure messages either. Anything that uses ESD seems to be fine. I installed and used pavucontrols to confirm that sound is not muted in Pulseaudio (which would, I suspect, have made all Gnome apps silent anyway). No luck, no sound. The only unusual element I can think of is that my HP Pavilion dv3 requires specifying a model (hp-dv5) in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to get sound to work at all... and yet, since it does in Gnome and all non-KDE apps, I don't know where the problem is. [Bug 465672] [NEW] KDE won't shut down
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase I'm running a release version of Kubuntu 9.10; all updates as of 2009-10-30, on an HP Pavilion dv3-2150us. Observed behavior: When I go to the KDE menu and select shutdown (or use the shutdown/lock widget to shut down), I get a dialog whose options do nothing. No matter what I click on, I am returned to the desktop with no changes. Further attempts to click on the shutdown button do nothing at all; there is no dialog. I have to shut down my system with `sudo shutdown now' or similar. This is identical to a supposedly closed bug that pinned the problem on knotify waiting to play the logout sound and being unable to. Before I tried a clean install of Kubuntu 9.10, I was running Kubuntu 9.10RC, and when this happened, turning off the shutdown sound in System Settings-Notifications-KDE Settings worked. I would verify the names of those panels in the system settings applet, but after I try to shut down the `right' way, I can't open the System Settings applet at all. Expected behavior: KDE logs out/shuts down. Question: sox (`play') and pidgin have sound; play skips with alsa underruns every so often and pidgin only has sound when its server is set to `automatic' or `esd'. KDE apps like Amarok and KDE notifications (but curiously not dragon-player) themselves are silent. [Bug 325074] Re: Window redrawing does not work properly with KDE4 taskbar tooltips.
I am having, and have been having, this problem since KDE 4.0 started; this is the last remaining visual glitch from that era, as far as I can tell. I thought it was just because I use vertical taskbars... The biggest difference between what I see and the current explanation is that the transparent rectangles can be in different parts of the screen. The attached screenshot demonstrates this: I moused over the Quickaccess browser and when the tooltip vanished, it carved a chunk out of the konsole window (then I moused over Quickaccess again for the screenshot). The top three places for the problem to appear are all near things that generate tooltips: next to the device manager (shown here), next to the battery meter, and next to the K menu. It's as if KDE forgot which icon generated the tooltip and erased the wrong part. Practical question: having read this bug report and the KDE bug report, do I turn compositing on, or off? ** Attachment added: KDE showing the tooltip repaint problem http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34364899/kplasma_problem.jpg -- Window redrawing does not work properly with KDE4 taskbar tooltips. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/325074 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 275152] Re: [Intrepid] Screen flicker/resync on X4500HD
I managed to mostly solve the problem; on page 5 of the link paxman1 posted (http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3098015.60) someone named ilowman suggested going to System Settings-Advanced-Service Manager and turning off Detecting RANDR (monitor) changes The effect was immediate; my screen now flickers only when loading KDE4.1, and when opening System Settings-Display. This seems to solve the glitches where the screen briefly redraws in a shifted position from normal; the people at that link seemed to think there are two kinds of graphical glitches going on here. One downside, however, is that while I can still switch screen resolutions to 1024x768 (and possibly others) I cannot switch back; I lost my first draft of this comment when X restarted instead. -- [Intrepid] Screen flicker/resync on X4500HD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 275152] Re: [Intrepid] Screen flicker/resync on X4500HD
My laptop has this problem (filed duplicate bug report by accident). It's an Inspiron 6000 running Ubuntu Intrepid 32bit; Intel 915 Graphics, and the thing flickers every 5 to 7 seconds, as pointed out here. I had this thing connected to a projector earlier today (no problems with detection; it automatically resized the displays to 1024x768 and so on) and the flicker manifested as the overhead projector losing the laptop's signal every seven seconds or so. As far as I can recall the laptop screen itself was absolutely stable while this was going on; the NO SIGNAL ON RGB 1 just kept popping up every seven seconds, for one second. Unlike the OP, I ONLY see this problem while running X. The display is perfectly solid all the way through the BIOS to the Kubuntu setup screens, to KDM itself where the problem begins. On shutdown, the display is stable as far as I can tell; shutdown is fast and requires a few mode changes of its own. -- [Intrepid] Screen flicker/resync on X4500HD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 148795] D3lphin crashes on zooming out
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dolphin I'm running Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon AMD64, and D3lphin crashes each and every time I zoom out. It defaults to ridiculously large icons, so I was rather interested in making them smaller. Going to View-Zoom Out at maximum zoom causes an abrupt crash, with signal 8 (SIGFPE) After the first time I tried this, it wouldn't even OPEN, but would immediately crash with the same error. To get it to this state (usable as long as you don't click 'zoom out'), I removed the file ~/.kde/share/config/d3lphin and the entire ~/.kde/apps/d3lphin folder. AMD 64 Kubuntu 7.10 Steps to reproduce: 1.) Open System Menu, go anywhere (home screen) 2.) (optional) Go to preview or icon view if it's not there already 3.) Go to View, then 'zoom out'. Alternately, just hit CTRL - This works every time on my system (AMD Athlon64 3500+ (2200MHz), Trident video card of unknown vintage, 512 MB RAM) Running d3lphin in a terminal was no more illuminating. ** Affects: dolphin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: dolphin kde kubuntu ** Description changed: Binary package hint: dolphin I'm running Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon AMD64, and D3lphin crashes each and every time I zoom out. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sox I have no idea when this happened (It did not just occur), so it most likely occurred during the same meltdown as bugs 116469, 116345 and 116330. Looking at the text of the bug report, I definitely don't recall the program appearing to fail while I transcoded that- the process worked; I have the resampled wave file. [Bug 115107] Re: checkinstall cannot install
I have also experienced this exact problem when trying to build a newer version of Filelight (1.0 is not in the repositories yet) and xsidplay (to get libsidplay2 support). I get failures upon trying to overwrite /bin/ld. Upon examination of the filelight .deb, I noticed that it also included all the files the above poster listed, and a couple of files from my home directory in the .qt configuration settings. I have no idea why it decided it needed to do that either. Most of these extraneous files, such as /usr/bin/ld, had zero size. Now, in the case of xsidplay I've done it often enough I actually made a script to do most of it for me. This script was unaltered, and worked before but does not now. In the case of Filelight, I downloaded the new source and the source deb currently in the repositories (from which I copied the debian/ folder) and ran ./configure and then checkinstall -D. The configure appeared to work perfectly. -- checkinstall cannot install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This happened to me as well, but I only noticed when I was trying to build my own kernel and couldn't (naturally) use the nvidia drivers with the new kernel. I switched to the nv driver, and discovered it failed. I subsequently discovered that it ALSO fails with the 2.6.17-generic kernel Ubuntu came with- apparently the nv driver did not upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1 along with the rest of the xorg xserver. [Bug 37072] Re: After installing (and enabling) of nvidia-glx, KDM makes wrong DRI guesses
This has been a persistent problem for me ever since I started using Kubuntu. Not only do font sizes change (increase) in KDE once nvidia- glx is activated (yes, this is the only change I need to make to reproduce this problem) but I can't change the fonts for KDM- I can resize and change all my KDE fonts to nicer looking ones, but KDM stays as it is with Bitstream Vera Sans at huge size. (nor can I change KDM's theme) I should note that Ubuntu correctly identifies my Inspiron 8500's 15.4 1920x1200 WUXGA screen off the bat, it's only when I activate nvidia-glx that things go awry. -- After installing (and enabling) of nvidia-glx, KDM makes wrong DRI guesses https://launchpad.net/bugs/37072 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Attached is a bz2ball with a working libsidplay2.so. It works on my machine (TM). (Xubuntu 6.06, all the latest updates as of 20061005 and Ubuntu's libsidplay2 already installed on the machine. Just an update- the version of xsidplay in Ubuntu Dapper Drake (as of today) still does not support libsidplay2. Also confirmed. It seems to be playing ALL tunes at the CIA timer frequency, ignoring the file attributes. The bug would be less noticeable if more than a fraction of tunes were INTENDED to use the CIA timer... As per my other bug (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source /sidplay-libs/+bug/32983), Gentoo has a patch in Portage to fix what appears to be bad C++ syntax in the speed selector, that's no longer valid in GCC 4.1... but when I tried applying it in Ubuntu it didn't actually work. -- libsidplay2 is playing certain sidtunes too fast https://launchpad.net/bugs/48411 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
