Hello, just a quick update: using Kernel version 4.15.0-39-generic I was able to connect to wifi, but after switching on and off some times the Wifi...so the problem is partially solved, but there is still something not working fine. Hello, sorry for the delay, I've tested kernel 4.15.0-38-generic, but the problem is not solved. Wifi seems, connect, but I cannot ping my domestic router...it seems that there are some problem sending packet on the Wifi connection, rather than establishing the connection with the Wifi router... I confirm that if I connect the my pc at home, where there aren't proxy, empathy starts to work as soon as I disable proxy system wide. I think that the problem is more serious, because I've noticed that also gnome extension installation (from https://extensions.gnome.org/) doesn't work if I'm using the proxy. I've just found out why the auth log is not present: empathy-auth-client was not running...if I manually start /usr/lib/empathy/empathy-auth- client, the Empathy.Auth appears... P.S. Thanks for the tip, I've installed alsa-hda-dkms version 0.20181453~oneiric1 and now it works perfectly: plugging in the jack mutes only the internal speakers...now what I should do? There is a way to suggest Ubuntu mantainer to upgrade alsa to the latest version? Or it will be upgraded only in the next release of Ubuntu? Adding lightdm because I've discovered another issue: 1)boot Ubuntu 2)leave pc idle without logging in 3)after 10 minutes (as I've set in screen settings) the screen goes standby 4)I cannot restore backlight even using keyboard shortcut (I think because I'm not logged in) 5)I've only one user so the focus is on password field, so I can enter the password although the screen is off 6)As soon the system enter Gnome session I can restore backlight using keyboard shortcut Is a strange problem...maybe it affects more modules (ligthdm, gnome- power-manager, graphic card driver??...), but I cannot reproduce it on other laptops, does anyone have a tip on how to isolate this bug to help resolving it? I've just upgraded from natty to oneiric and I have the same issue: if I leave the pc idle for a while the screen goes black and if I leave it black for some minutes, than I cannot resume the session, because no password dialog appears...If I manually lock the screen and than try to resume the session it works well, because the password dialog appears. So I'm wondering if there is no way to configure a screensaver, what program is triggering the black screen? (in may system is installaed xscreensaver package...maybe it conflicts with gnome3?) I've installed the latest alsa modules following the guide, but the problem is still present; but I've noticed that now if plug the jack and then switch the output from Analog output to Analog Headphone I can hear a very weak sound from the headphones (and nothing from the internal speaker)... There is something else I should try? Or we should forward the bug upstream? Same problem, and I've also noticed that I can't switch the user: in fact it simply lock current session, but doesn't not start another session! I've tried to use Lancelot, but it doesn't work too because it can't find the display manager Lancelot can not find your display manager. This means that it not able to retrieve the list of currently running sessions, or start a new one.
