[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-12-11 Thread Alex Betis
Sorry guys, was busy and forgot about that issue...

I've moved to 13.10 since last report, the problem is still here.
I have the OKI printer connected through a cheap USB hub and DYMO labelwriter
directly to the PC.
That's exactly the same configuration as I had before upgraded to 13.04, which
introduced the problem and strange behavior with delays...

The USB hub was replaced to a better one and the problem didn't
dissapear.

I've connected the OKI printer directly to the PC and couldn't reproduce the
problem for now.
Will stay with that configuration to see if it will come back. The delays
between the prints are still here, but that's a minor issue.

I start to suspect in USB subsystem since there is another non-printer related
issue.
The first scan after with barcode reader will always be incomplete after the PC
was idle fro a while (probably the USB went to sleep since then, I can see it
by dimmer led on the DYMO printer).
The barcode scanner was always connected to the USB hub where OKI printer is
connected...

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-10-05 Thread Alex Betis
Hi,

Following is the tail of the syslog with printouts from the prints session.
It took a while to reproduce, the log includes 2 successful prints on the DYMO
printer, the 3'rd was cut again and than restarted from the middle of the
sticker.
The OKI printer wasn't stuck this time...

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-09-28 Thread Alex Betis
Tried to print a JPG image to both of the printers several times at about the
same time.
The DYMO printer spitted the labels pretty fast without a problem, while the
OKI still showing processing for more than 15 minutes...

The OKI's job become more than 13MBytes of data (don't know if it's small or
big, the PDF file job was about 1M).
The log constantly shows 6 pairs of the following printouts per second:
Read 8192 bytes of print data...
Wrote 8192 bytes of print data...

Will try to upload the log later in case there will be some progress.

The OKI printer was in not connected state when I first printed, so I
did the disable/enable sequence again and since then it's in processing
state...

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-09-28 Thread Alex Betis
Oh, and something I didn't mention, the PDF files are printed from the command
line using the following commands:
lpr -U alex -P OKI-DATA-CORP-B410 pfd_file_name
lpr -U alex -P DYMO-LabelWriter-450 -o PageSize=w167h288 -o PageRegion=w167h288
-o page-left=0 -o page-right=0 -o page-top=0 -o page-bottom=0 -o
Resolution=300dpi -o cupsDarkness=Normal pdf_file_name

The JPEGs were sent to OKI from FireFox and to DYMO from image viewer.

30 minutes passed...
The printer queue still shows processing and sending data to printer in the
web interface.
Canceling the job...
Next job with the same image changed from pending to processing.
After another 10 minutes when nothing is printed canceling the rest of the OKI
jobs.

Printing on OKI from the image viewer created a 3-4MByte job which was printed
successfully in seconds...
So probably there is another problem with printing from FireFox or with very
large jobs.

Attaching the error log I have so far with current prints.

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-09-28 Thread Alex Betis
Now that I know that image viewer prints ok on both of the printers I've
tried to print JPG image on both of them from that application.

Same problem, the DYMO spit about 1/4 of the sticker and the job was placed on
hold, while the web interface shows Unable to send data to printer.
The OKI printer is shown with i circle, the job status became Processing -
not connected? (with the ? at the end), while on the web interface it just
shows processing since date_time

After a while the jobs were released automatically (I did nothing except
refreshing the web interface jobs page) and similar print results are
seen: DYMO restarted the print from the beginning on the same label, OKI
printed normally.

Attaching the log again with that scenario.

Bottom line, the problem exist not only for the PDF files...

[Bug 1231624] [NEW] Long delay between prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450

2013-09-26 Thread Alex Betis
Public bug reported:

After moving my business environment to 13.04 I suffer from long delays
between prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 labels printer.

The delay is about 7 seconds, which is pretty annoying when many labels
have to be printed.

I see similar delays when printing to OKI B410d printer, but since the
buffering to that printer is much bigger, it's hard to measure the
delay.

On 11.10 there was about 1 second delay (or less) when printing to DYMO
printer and no delay at all when printing to OKI, the pages from
sequential jobs were just spitted one after another.

[Bug 1231630] [NEW] Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-09-26 Thread Alex Betis
Public bug reported:

I have 2 printers attached to my work station: DYMO LabelWriter 450 for
printing labels and OKI B410d for printing invoices.
My business environment sends 2 jobs at about the same time, one to print a
label and one to print the invoice.

After moving to 13.04 sometimes I see that labels printing is stopped in the
middle (only half of the label gets out of the printer), the DYMO's print queue
shows that the job is Held for some reason.
When I manually resume the held job the label is printed again on the second
half of the label and first half of the next label, thus wasting 2 label pages
in that case.

It's hard to reproduce, but it happens pretty frequently when printing
to both of the printers.

There is another symptom that I think is related to the same issue:
Rarely the prints are not coming out at all and than I can see in print queues
that jobs sizes are with smaller sizes than I can generally see there.
That happens for both of the printers from time to time, probably current
printing job is cut by the new one.

Couldn't reproduce the problem when printing only to 1 printer at a time
and waiting for all the jobs to come out before printing to the other.

There was no problem on 11.10 to print to both of the printers at the
same time.

I'm not sure those are duplicate since the symptoms are different, but
it could be that both of the problems are created when trying to solve a

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

I'm not sure those are duplicate since the symptoms are different, but it could

Forgot about the logs, will try to capture on my next print.

All printed files are PDFs (all of them are postscripts?).
One page for OKI is about 1MByte and every job for DYMO is about 350KByte.

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-09-26 Thread Alex Betis
Another symptom, probably the same problem:

The OKI printer's jobs are not coming out.
In printer's queue the job is shown as Processing - Not connected?, while the
printer is online.

Attached log with save debug information for troubleshooting is
enabled and CUPS restarted after that.

The log should show 1 job to DYMO printer and 1 job to OKI printer.
DYMO label looks ok, while OKI's page didn't come out.
Enabling/disabling the printer in the settings will detect the printer again
and print the job.

[Bug 1231630] Re: Prints to DYMO LabelWriter 450 are cut by prints to OKI printer

2013-09-26 Thread Alex Betis
Not my lucky day... Printing next jobs sequence printed 1/4 of the label on
DYMO and placed the print job on hold.
The OKI printer's job went to processing - not connected? again.

In the web interface I can see Unable to send data to printer. for the
DYMO printer job and Processing for the OKI's printer.

The attached log includes enable/disable of the OKI printer to get the
page out and pressing the play button (release job) for the DYMO held
job which printed the label from the beginning on second half of the
stuck label and first half of the next.

[Bug 855412] Re: My laser printer prints sheets of random chars

2011-10-19 Thread Alex Betis
Hi guys,

I want to report that I have VERY similar problem with my OKI B410D printer
after upgrade to 11.10 from 11.04.
On 11.01 everything worked fine.

I've tried already different drivers, the recommended one, the one that is
provided by OKI and the proposed here hpijs/pcl5e driver.
All have the same behavior:
- First job is printing fine
- Second job spits many pages were the first line have random characters

I'll try to collect some logs and attach here.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 872483] Re: laser printer only prints first job correct

2011-10-19 Thread Alex Betis
Following Guido Do from bug #855412

Have exactly the same problem with my OKI B410d.
Tried different drivers, no luck on 11.10, everything worked fine on 11.04.

Attaching some logs.
errors_log contain the following:
- restart of cups
- printing test page from printer settings page
- printed ok
- waiting a bit
- printing test page again
- pages start spitting out
- turned off the printer
- turned on the printer
- jammed page came out and after a second the print page was actually printed
as well (that's something new, didn't happen before)

In the logs you can see that I have DYMO label writer 450 printer as
well, it wasn't affected by upgrade to 11.10 and behaves normally.

Please propose a workaround or something, that's a total no-go for me.

Thanks,
Alex

Anybody knows if it's possible to reset USB connection from command

Turning the printer off and on after every print job is a very bad solution for
me since I have to print many documents.
Looks like disconnecting USB cable and reconnecting again have the same effect
as off/on, so I wonder if there is a way to reset the connection by software
and not by hardware until a solution will be found.

[Bug 872483] Re: laser printer only prints first job correct

2011-10-19 Thread Alex Betis
Ok, found how to reset the USB port:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb-usersm=116827193506484w=2

It helps as a workaround until a fix will be found.

Now I just need to find how to run it automatically after every print job.
Any ideas?

[Bug 872483] Re: laser printer only prints first job correct

2011-10-19 Thread Alex Betis
Not sure that's the best solution for everybody, especially those who
are not affected by the problem we've reported.

I can't measure it, but I think the reset cause a delay before the job is
actually printed out.
I mean by printing doc1, reset, printing doc2 creates few seconds delay between
the doc1 and doc2, while with 11.04 the pagaes came out one after another.

Not sure about it yet since I have to run the reset manually, maybe I
wasn't too fast with that.

In any case, I think it's makes a sense to have a configuration flag
around the reset before or after every job, so for those who are not
affected this will not bring another problem.
