[Bug 1780452] Re: 14e4:43ba Broadcom BCM43602 doesn't see 5GHz APs

2018-07-18 Thread Alexander Skwar
It was a "a Bionic install out of the box", ie. a fresh install.

At the moment, I cannot test with Mainline, sorry.

I suspect that an updated firmware is needed. If and when Broadcom
releases one...

[Bug 1589005] Re: After update DNS work unstable

2017-03-20 Thread Alexander Skwar
See https://gist.github.com/alexs77/85de4198016b5a6c6b40548b9aa71867 for
a better readable version.

And I also forgot to add, that I do NOT have the "normal" full blown
dnsmasq package installed; only dnsmasq-base.

[Bug 1589005] Re: After update DNS work unstable

2017-03-20 Thread Alexander Skwar
I also seem to experience the same (or similar) issue. When I connect to
my companies Cisco ASA VPN using OpenConnect (in NetworkManager), it
seems that with network-manager after v1.2.2, the previously configured
DNS servers aren't overwritten with what VPN sends. Instead, those VPN
servers get appended to the list.

So, at first, before I connect to VPN, I only have one DNS server configured:
192.168.42.129
Next, I connect to the VPN.

To see the effective list of DNS servers, I created the file
/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/dnsmasq.conf, containing:

log-queries=extra
log-async=7

After a reboot, dnsmasq uses this settings. Now, when a USR1 signal is
send to dnsmasq, it'll print information to syslog.

With v1.2.2 (network-manager_1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4_amd64.deb):
$ tail -F /var/log/syslog &
# => Connect to Cisco VPN with OpenConnect
$ sudo pkill -USR1 dnsmasq

Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: time 1490021560
Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: cache size 0, 0/0 cache insertions
re-used unexpired cache entries.
Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: queries forwarded 14, queries
answered locally 1
Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: queries for authoritative zones 0
Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: server 192.168.251.6#53: queries
sent 1, retried or failed 0
Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: server 192.168.251.7#53: queries
sent 7, retried or failed 0
Mar 20 15:52:40 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[992]: Host
  AddressFlags  Expires

With v1.2.4 (network-manager_1.2.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb), I get
this:

$ sudo dpkg -i Downloads/network-manager_1.2.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.1_amd64.deb
$ sudo reboot

...

$ tail -F /var/log/syslog &
# => Connect to Cisco VPN with OpenConnect
$ sudo pkill -USR1 dnsmasq

Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: time 1490021802
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: cache size 0, 0/0 cache insertions
re-used unexpired cache entries.
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: queries forwarded 14, queries
answered locally 1
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: queries for authoritative zones 0
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: server 192.168.42.129#53: queries
sent 5, retried or failed 0
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: server 192.168.251.6#53: queries
sent 0, retried or failed 0
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: server 192.168.251.7#53: queries
sent 0, retried or failed 0
Mar 20 15:56:42 dns-issue-test dnsmasq[976]: Host
  AddressFlags  Expires

So, as can be seen, the two additional DNS servers 192.168.251.6 and
192.168.251.7 just got added to the list of effective DNS servers.
192.168.42.129 is still in the list.

With v1.2.2, the old DNS server (=> 192.168.42.129) was removed.

2017-01-17 Thread Alexander Skwar
Public bug reported:

Using freeipa 4.3.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 16.04 servers.

I have setup a FreeIPA master server with the following commands:

apt install freeipa-server

ipa-server-install --setup-dns --mkhomedir --auto-forwarders \
  --no-reverse --hostname=ewserv-auth01-prod.unix.ewadmin.ch \
  --ip-address=192.168.251.51 \
  --ds-password='dspassword' --admin-password='adminpassword' \
  --realm=UNIX.EWADMIN.CH --domain=unix.ewadmin.ch \
  --unattended

On a different server, I'm now trying to setup a replica. The
connection tests are good, see replica-master-conncheck.txt and
master-replica-conncheck.txt.

But ipa-replica-install fails (see ipa-replica-install.log.txt):

$ sudo ipa-replica-install -P admin -w adminpassword
--domain=unix.ewadmin.ch --server=ewserv-auth01-prod.unix.ewadmin.ch
--realm=UNIX.EWADMIN.CH --hostname=ewserv-auth02-prod.unix.ewadmin.ch
…
Client configuration complete.

Run connection check to master

Please fix your network settings according to error messages above.
If the check results are not valid it can be skipped with --skip-conncheck
parameter.

[Bug 1656236] [NEW] OpenSans TTF fonts missing

2017-01-13 Thread Alexander Skwar
Public bug reported:

While loading the freeipa 4.3.1-0ubuntu1 web ui (=>
https://server/ipa/ui/) in Chrome, I see that it tries to load the
following font files, but only gets a 404:

OpenSans-Light.ttf OpenSans-Semibold.ttf OpenSans-Italic.ttf OpenSans-
Bold.ttf OpenSans-Regular.ttf

They are not present on my Xenial server.

$ sudo find / -name "Open*ttf"

depend on: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?searchon=contents

[Bug 1616905] [NEW] lightdm install prompts about default dm even though debconf value set

2016-08-25 Thread Alexander Skwar
Public bug reported:

I've got gdm3-3.18.3-0ubuntu2 installed on a Xenial 16.04 system with
apt. Now I need to install lightdm-1.18.2-0ubuntu2 as well and also need
to avoid being asked any questions. But the system asks me, what default
DM (display manager) to use.

Copying from Bug #1020770, I set some values with debconf.

$ echo "debconf debconf/priority select critical
lightdm shared/default-x-display-manager select lightdm
gdm3 shared/default-x-display-manager select lightdm" | sudo
debconf-set-selections -v
info: Trying to set 'debconf/priority' [select] to 'critical'
info: Loading answer for 'debconf/priority'
info: Trying to set 'shared/default-x-display-manager' [select] to 'lightdm'
info: Loading answer for 'shared/default-x-display-manager'
info: Trying to set 'shared/default-x-display-manager' [select] to 'lightdm'
info: Loading answer for 'shared/default-x-display-manager'

When I now install lightdm (or reconfigure it), it is ignoring that I
set the value to "lightdm". I confirmed that by having a look at
/etc/X11/default-display-manager:

$ cat /etc/X11/default-display-manager
/usr/sbin/gdm3

When I manually answer the DM question and give "lightdm" as the answer,
the file contains "/usr/sbin/lightdm".

dpkg-reconfigure in non-interactive mode:

$ sudo env DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer dpkg-reconfigure -fnoninteractive lightdm
debconf (developer): starting /var/lib/dpkg/info/lightdm.prerm upgrade
1.18.2-0ubuntu2

debconf (developer): --> 0 gdm3
debconf (developer): starting /var/lib/dpkg/info/lightdm.postinst configure
1.18.2-0ubuntu2
debconf (developer): <-- STOP

And in interactive mode:

$ sudo env DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
debconf (developer): starting /var/lib/dpkg/info/lightdm.prerm upgrade
1.18.2-0ubuntu2
debconf (developer): starting /var/lib/dpkg/info/lightdm.config reconfigure
1.18.2-0ubuntu2
debconf (developer): <-- METAGET shared/default-x-display-manager owners
debconf (developer): --> 0 gdm, gdm3, lightdm, slim
debconf (developer): <-- METAGET shared/default-x-display-manager choices
debconf (developer): --> 0 gdm, gdm3, lightdm, slim
debconf (developer): <-- SET shared/default-x-display-manager gdm3
debconf (developer): --> 0 value set
debconf (developer): <-- INPUT high shared/default-x-display-manager
debconf (developer): --> 0 question will be asked
debconf (developer): <-- GO
debconf (developer): --> 0 ok
debconf (developer): <-- GET shared/default-x-display-manager
debconf (developer): --> 0 lightdm
debconf (developer): starting /var/lib/dpkg/info/lightdm.postinst configure
1.18.2-0ubuntu2
debconf (developer): <-- GET shared/default-x-display-manager
debconf (developer): --> 0 lightdm
debconf (developer): <-- GET lightdm/daemon_name
debconf (developer): --> 0 /usr/sbin/lightdm
debconf (developer): <-- STOP

To me, this is a bug in lightdm (or gdm3, which has the same code and
problem), because it doesn't seem to honor the values set with debconf
and thus makes it impossible to install without having to manually
answer questions.

[Bug 885251] [NEW] Don't display a thousands seperator in binary mode

2011-11-02 Thread Alexander Skwar
Public bug reported:

I switched to programmers mode in gcalctool and also enabled in prefs, that a
thousands seperator is to be shown.
I then switch to binary mode.

Now I entered a number: 001
It's displayed as: 1'111'001

Ie. every 3 digits, a thousands seperator (the ' in my case) is added.

For binary mode, this doesn't make much sense. Instead, it would be
useful, if every 4 digits a space would be added. Just like it's done in
the display above the keys.

[Bug 859446] [NEW] Doesn't show up in rhythmbox - must be upgraded

2011-09-26 Thread Alexander Skwar
Public bug reported:

I had installed on Natty:

ask@ewzw032:~/bin$ dpkg --status rhythmbox-radio-browser
Package: rhythmbox-radio-browser
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: sound
Installed-Size: 324
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com
Architecture: all
Version: 2.3.1-0ubuntu1
Depends: rhythmbox, streamripper, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, python
Description: Internet radio browser plugin for rhythmbox
 Rhythmbox plugin that shows the radio station lists
 of icecast (dir.xiph.org) and shoutcast directly in rhythmbox.
 So the user can easily search for internet radio stations
 in rhythmbox and play them. It has also support for streamripper,
 so streams can be recorded too.
Homepage: http://programmierecke.net/programmed/
Original-Maintainer: Alexander Murauer segler_a...@web.de

After enabling this plugin in rhythmbox, NOTHING showed up in the rhythmbox
interface; on the terminal from where I started rhythmbox, I saw:

(rhythmbox:6948): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set_qdata: assertion
`G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/radio-browser/radio-browser.py, line 191,
in deactivate
try:
AttributeError: 'RadioBrowserPlugin' object has no attribute 'actiongroup'

I guess that is a known problem, because on the News page of the coder at
http://www.programmierecke.net/programmed/rhythmbox-radio-browser.html#News,
you can find:

works in rhythmbox 0.13.3

rhythmbox 0.13.3 is what is shipped with Natty.

[Bug 52649] Re: VIA IRQ quirk changes in 2.6.15-26.44 have broken various VIA devices

2006-08-16 Thread Alexander Skwar
David,

be pragmatic - install it, and if it boots, all is well. If not, simply
boot the old kernel (which is still there!) and remove the newly
installed kernel.

[Bug 52649] Re: After installing the latest Linux kernel with Update Manager, Gnome start not normal.

2006-08-06 Thread Alexander Skwar
If the -26 kernel should be the default kernel of Dapper.1, then yes,
this should be a blocker, as this kernel is unusable for me and it seems
quite some more people.

If, however, the -25 kernel is default: Then go ahead with Dapper.1.

My 2 cents.

[Bug 55332] Nautilus causes NFS problems

2006-08-05 Thread Alexander Skwar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I've got a Linkstation 2 MIPS NAS system where I installed the nfs-
kernel-server from Debian on. When I use Nautilus to browse a folder
containing images and enable that previews should be generated, I'm
getting A LOT of messages like this on my client:

Aug 5 19:11:38 knospe kernel: [17183296.172000] nfs: server hd not
responding, timed out

knospe is the name of my client; hd is the name of the NFS server.

When I use tar on the shell, I can read as much as I want.

I'm using

nautilus   2.14.3-0ubuntu1

on Ubuntu Dapper.

[Bug 53728] Re: Cannot load ath_pci from madwifi - volatile directory not searched by modprobe

2006-07-22 Thread Alexander Skwar
The problem is, that the ath_hal module isn't loaded. In 2.6.15-25,
doing modprobe ath_pci would load ath_hal as well and all was fine.
Not so with the current kernel.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe -v ath_hal
FATAL: Module ath_hal not found.

Hm, why's that?

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -la /lib/modules/`uname -r`/volatile/

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4410619 2006-07-23 00:21 nvidia_legacy.ko

It seems, modprobe doesn't look into this volatile directory?

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo insmod
/lib/modules/2.6.15-26-686/volatile/ath_hal.ko
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo modprobe -v ath_pci
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.15-26-686/madwifi/ath_rate_sample.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.15-26-686/madwifi/ath_pci.ko

So, when I manually load the module, I can then modprobe ath_pci and
thus access the WLAN just fine.

Thus I asume, that the real problem is, that modprobe doesn't check the
volatile directory. Why does it not do this?

[Bug 53133] Re: Totem crashs system

2006-07-17 Thread Alexander Skwar
Hi.
Yes, I know that an application shouldn't crash something else - but only Totem
manages to crash (or maybe better freeze?) my system.

There's nothing in /var/log/{messages,syslog}. I'll attach
/etc/X11/xorg.conf now and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (from the prev.
session, where Totem froze the system) in yet another reply.

[Bug 53163] Re: Sound very jerky with 2.6.15-26 kernel and modules

2006-07-17 Thread Alexander Skwar
The jerkiness is also apparent with ``aplay -Dplughw:0
/usr/share/sounds/startup.wav''. But it's not just the jerkiness, the
real problem is, that I cannot login into Gnome anymore. To be able to
start Gnome, I've got to kill esd. Then the applications startup just
fine - until the next sound is played.
