[Bug 1904744] [NEW] cups-browsed crashes when printing test page to remote printer
Public bug reported: 1) lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS Release:20.04 2) apt-cache policy cups-filters cups-filters: Installed: 1.27.4-1 Candidate: 1.27.4-1 Version table: *** 1.27.4-1 500 500 http://hk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) I have several Ubuntu 20.04 LTS desktops configured to print to a CUPS print server with 4 printers. 3 of the printers work OK, the other one I can print a test page locally, I would expect sending a test page from one of the desktops would result in the test page printing. 4) but sending a test page from one of the desktops results in the client CUPS showing: Paused - "No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer "Grassjewel", is cups-browsed running?" [Bug 1901828] [NEW] upgrade modifies /etc/default/grub inappropriately
Public bug reported: If I have: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" in /etc/default/grub, boot hangs with "Failed to start Light Display Manager". No problem, I delete the line and run update-grub. However, running apt upgrade sometimes appends the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" to /etc/default/grub, resulting in a failed boot after upgrade. I am sure it is appending the line to the file because the rest of the file is unchanged. This has been happening occasionally for a long time. Most recently, it happened when I used do-release-upgrade to go from 18.04 to 20.04 I guess some package thinks it is a good idea to add this option, but I don't know which one, or how to stop it. [Bug 1832222] Re: using aakar font reboots printer
I re-tested in preparation for submitting the bug to Debian, and the problem has disappeared. Something has changed in the 10 months since my report, the package is still Version: 1.0-6ubuntu0.1, but plenty of other packages on the system have been updated. As there is no way of reproducing and investigating the root cause, I'm marking it as Invalid. ** Changed in: fonts-gujr-extra (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183 Title: using aakar font reboots printer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-gujr-extra/+bug/183/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1832222] Re: using aakar font reboots printer
Because the Aakar font is part of the fonts-gujr-extra package. To re-phrase the problem: On certain text input, the Aakar font emits a reset command to the printer. In contrast, other non-Latin fonts (e.g. STZhongsong) when presented with Latin characters gracefully degrade to a default Latin font. Alternatively, it could be replaced in the output by a "unknown character" symbol, there is even a Unicode code point for that: U+FFFD REPLACEMENT CHARACTER used to replace an unknown, unrecognized or unrepresentable character. That would give a visible clue to the location of the user's mistake. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183 Title: using aakar font reboots printer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-gujr-extra/+bug/183/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1832222] [NEW] using aakar font reboots printer
Public bug reported: A user accidentally selected the aakar font for one cell of a spreadsheet containing English text. Printing the spreadsheet resulted in the printer displaying: Rebooting... followed by Initializing The result was the same for both printers tried: Samsung SL-M3820ND and HP Colour LaserJet CM1017 The spreadsheet was exported to a PDF, printing the PDF caused the same printer reboot. Opening the PDF in Libre Office Draw and printing caused the same printer reboot. If the font was changed to Liberation Sans, the file could be printed. A minimal Libre Office spreadsheet with the problem is attached. ** Affects: fonts-gujr-extra (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "spreadsheet with font problem" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183/+attachment/5269913/+files/aakar_problem.ods -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183 Title: using aakar font reboots printer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-gujr-extra/+bug/183/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1454668] Re: Failed to upgrade/reinstall libreoffice-common
Bug appears to be related to Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV). I removed SAV, and apt-get -f install completed OK. Terminal output below. SAV was using fanotify for on-access detection. Caveats: 1. I have two machines affected by this, I've only tried this on one so far. 2. [Bug 1454668] [NEW] Failed to upgrade/reinstall libreoffice-common
Public bug reported: A few days ago I noticed a problem during a normal apt-get upgrade - the libreoffice-common package failed to install: dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/libreoffice-common_1%3a4.2.8-0ubuntu2_all.deb (--unpack): unable to open '/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/xslt/import/spreadsheetml/spreadsheetml2ooo.xsl.dpkg-new': Operation not permitted Initially I assumed it was a download problem so I cleaned the cache and retried. I also checked disc space: 12GB free, inodes 1035169 free. I removed libreoffice entirely (purge) and reinstalled. Up to then, libreoffice was working, after the reinstallation failed with the same error it was not there. I noted there were two systems with the same problem, both i386, and three systems without the problem, two 64bit, and one i386. I haven't tried the purge/reinstall on the second system because one system with no office software is already one too many. I've followed the instructions on: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure and the Terminal output follows: allan@finwhale:~$ ubuntu-support-status Support status summary of 'finwhale': You have 9 packages (0.5%) supported until February 2016 (9m) You have 29 packages (1.5%) supported until February 2015 (9m) You have 1815 packages (94.3%) supported until May 2019 (5y) You have 34 packages (1.8%) supported until May 2017 (3y) You have 0 packages (0.0%) that can not/no-longer be downloaded You have 37 packages (1.9%) that are unsupported Run with --show-unsupported, --show-supported or --show-all to see more details allan@finwhale:~$ cat /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch cat: /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch: No such file or directory allan@finwhale:~$ dpkg --print-foreign-architectures allan@finwhale:~$ sudo grep -R proxy /etc/apt/* [sudo] password for allan: allan@finwhale:~$ grep proxy /etc/environment allan@finwhale:~$ echo $http_proxy allan@finwhale:~$ echo $ftp_proxy allan@finwhale:~$ grep proxy /etc/bash.bashrc allan@finwhale:~$ grep proxy ~/.bashrc allan@finwhale:~$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf cat: /etc/apt/apt.conf: No such file or directory allan@finwhale:~$ sudo fuser -vvv /var/lib/dpkg/lock allan@finwhale:~$ sudo fuser -vvv /var/cache/apt/archives/lock allan@finwhale:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=14.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS allan@finwhale:~$ uname -a Linux finwhale 3.13.0-44-generic #73-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 16 00:23:46 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux allan@finwhale:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock allan@finwhale:~$ sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock allan@finwhale:~$ sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock allan@finwhale:~$ sudo cp -arf /var/lib/dpkg /var/lib/dpkg.backup allan@finwhale:~$ allan@finwhale:~$ sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/status /var/lib/dpkg/status-bad allan@finwhale:~$ sudo cp /var/lib/dpkg/status-old /var/lib/dpkg/status || sudo cp /var/backups/apt.extended_states.0 /var/lib/dpkg/status allan@finwhale:~$ sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/available /var/lib/dpkg/available-bad allan@finwhale:~$ sudo cp /var/lib/dpkg/available-old /var/lib/dpkg/available allan@finwhale:~$ sudo rm -rf /var/lib/dpkg/updates/* allan@finwhale:~$ sudo rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists allan@finwhale:~$ sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin allan@finwhale:~$ sudo mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists allan@finwhale:~$ sudo mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists/partial allan@finwhale:~$ LANG=C;sudo apt-get clean allan@finwhale:~$ LANG=C;sudo apt-get autoclean Reading package lists... [Bug 1392983] Re: package zoneminder 1.26.5-1ubuntu3 failed to install: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 255
The problem appears to be that the new version has added configuration data. The script zmupdate.pl is supposed to update the configuration in the mysql Config table, but it fails to compile because it depends on a new configuration value, ZM_DYN_DB_VERSION, which has not been created yet. I found a file /undef.log containing the error: --- 12/29/14 20:39:24.043538 undef[1400].ERR-zm_config.cpp/259 [Config mismatch, expected 215 items, read 202. Workaround: Use a script to update the Config stored in the database: --- #!/usr/bin/perl -w # # Fix the ZoneMinder configuration table with data from ZoneMinder:ConfigData package use strict; use bytes; use ZoneMinder::ConfigAdmin qw(:all); loadConfigFromDB(); saveConfigToDB(); exit; --- Running the script gave: --- ./zmfix.pl Loading config from DB No option 'ZM_LOCAL_BGR_INVERT' found, removing at /usr/share/perl5/ZoneMinder/ConfigAdmin.pm line 89. Trying the update script again: --- zmupdate.pl -f Freshening configuration in database Loading config from DB Saving config to DB Previous versions of ZoneMinder used the MyISAM database engine. However, the recommended database engine is InnoDB. Hint: InnoDB tables are much less likely to be corrupted during an unclean shutdown. Press 'y' to convert your tables to InnoDB or 'n' to skip : y Converting MyISAM tables to InnoDB. Please wait. --- The conversion has not finished yet, so I cannot confirm that this workaround works, but it does allow zmupdate.pl to run. A proper fix would modify zmupdate.pl so that it is not dependant on configuration values that do not exist in old versions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392983 Title: package zoneminder 1.26.5-1ubuntu3 failed to install: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 255 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/zoneminder/+bug/1392983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 914690] Re: hfaxd listens on 0.0.0.0 when -l 172.16.32.65 specified
I'm not familiar with using packages from different releases, so I downloaded the .deb and tried installing using dpkg -i Short answer: problem solved by hylafax-server_6.0.4-10ubuntu1_i386.deb Detail: I got an error installing the client: cp: `/etc/hylafax/pagesizes' and `/var/spool/hylafax/etc/pagesizes' are the same file Which appears to be this bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=551566 And that resulted in a dependency error when I installed the server, so I thought I was stuck. I tried shutting down hylafax server before installing the client, but still got the same error. Later I realised that, when I restarted the server, it was version 6.0.4 and it was listening as I specified. I still don't have the 6.0.4 client cleanly installed, the system has a single filesystem so I can't umount /var/spool/hylafax, but I don't need to run the client there, so it's unimportant to me. I might encounter a problem in future when I move to a new Ubuntu release. Thanks Allan On 11/01/2012 20:15, Giuseppe Sacco wrote: I cannot reproduce the problem with latest version. Could you please check if you may install newer version of the packages hylafax-client and hylafax-server? You may get them from Ubuntu or Debian, but I am not sure if you may install these binary package without recompilation. [Bug 914690] [NEW] hfaxd listens on 0.0.0.0 when -l 172.16.32.65 specified
Public bug reported: I'm trying to get hfaxd to only listen for connections on my internal network interface. Initially, I edited /etc/default/hylafax with the line: BINDTO=-l 172.16.32.65 and restarted, but with no change. I then tried starting hfaxd manually, with various command line options, but -l was consistently ignored. I also found that -i is ignored. I can see where it is listening by: # netstat -anp --tcp|grep hfaxd tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:45590.0.0.0:* LISTEN 6726/hfaxd And I can see the command line in the ps output: # ps ax|grep hfaxd 6726 ?S 0:00 /usr/sbin/hfaxd -d -l 172.16.32.65 -i 4559 8335 pts/1S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto hfaxd Thanks.
