[Bug 1520343] Re: Qualcomm Atheros wireless card [168c:003e] (rev 32) not supported

2016-03-28 Thread Anders Østerholt
Running Ubuntu 16.04 current of today (4.4.0-15-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP
Fri Mar 18 19:08:31 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with a Asus
z170i pro gaming that comes with the "Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac
Wireless Network Adapter (rev 32) [168c:003e]" I got wifi-ac working
just by adding the board-2.bin file, unload ath10k_pci and ath10k_core,
load ath10k_pci.

sudo wget -O /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-2.bin
https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-
firmware/blob/master/QCA6174/hw3.0/board-2.bin?raw=true

sudo rmmod ath10k_pci ath10k_core

modprobe ath10k_pci

Monitoring the connection in my router I can see up to 866.7Mbps, though
cifs file transfer speed is just about 100Mbps.

you could try ~/.wine/drive_c/DRIVERS/GOBI/Images/Lenovo/8/UQCN.mbn

There are different providers listed at

Do a tail -f /var/log/syslog, and modem-manager should give some output

[Bug 554099] Re: Qualcomm Gobi 2000 3G (gobi_loader/qcserial) broken

2010-10-10 Thread Anders Østerholt
Howto for Maverick, generic UMTS on Thinkpads:
Download and extract windows driver install file from Lenovo.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7xwc44ww.exe or get the
latest from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-72938.html
Install a recent wine as 1.2 crashes during msi extraction.
Run the install file with wine.
Extract firmware from GobiInstaller.msi. mkdir ~/.wine/drive_c/DRIVERS/GOBI;
wine msiexec /a ~/.wine/drive_c/DRIVERS/WWANQL/Driver/GobiInstaller.msi /qb
TARGETDIR=C:\\DRIVERS\\GOBI

install gobi-loader

Copy firmware into /lib/firmware/gobi.  sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/gobi;
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/DRIVERS/GOBI/Images/Lenovo; sudo cp 6/*
/lib/firmware/gobi/; sudo cp UMTS/* /lib/firmware/gobi/

Do a reboot or modem-manger restart and qcserial unload load. sudo
pkill modem-manager; sudo rmmod qcserial; sudo modprobe qcserial

You should now have a New Mobile Broadband (GSM) connection... in the
nm-applet. If not, do the thing in the previous paragraph or have a
look at syslog

[Bug 585526] [NEW] After resume, screen corruption and invisible mouse cursor ATI Radeon HD 4850

2010-05-25 Thread Anders Østerholt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

At the moment running xorg-edgers, but stock ubuntu packages have same
symptoms.

After resume the screen is mostly gray, like not redrawn. And the mouse
cursor is not visible.

Workaround: switch to virtual console and back to X. ALT+TAB or some
dragging around of windows redraws desktop, but mouse cursor stays
invisible.

[Bug 540801] Re: X server starts before Plymouth, or a very short time after (no or brief splash)

2010-05-02 Thread Anders Østerholt
When putting plymouth into initramfs, how much delay does it introduce?

I've seen this bug on several machines including a netbook with gma950
and ssd(does not agree with the worse on hdd statement), and it's quite
disappointing after the nice grub splash and plymouth splash on the live
cd, to see a black screen until X loads.

Why should we not have the same nice looking bootup after install?

Why is this triaged? Is there a more proper way to solve this than
putting plymouth into initramfs?

What about the grub splash?

[Bug 399238] Re: [i965] Intel GM965 poor graphics performance

2009-08-02 Thread Anders Østerholt
This bug is stating that the intel gaming performance on linux is much
poorer than it is on windows. That's a fact and does not need any log or
conf files to be provided. Although the title is a bit misleading as the
2d and video performance is quite snappy in the current 2.8 driver.

The current situation is identical for open source ati and nvidia
drivers which perform much worse than fglrx and and the closed source
nvidia driver. Nvidia and ati has mostly the same gaming performance in
linux and windows.

It is not really an Intel specific issue, but currently poor performance
of Mesa and/or ttm/gem.

[Bug 379221] Re: Scrolling in a zoomed in image results in blocks

2009-06-07 Thread Anders Østerholt
If it is a nvidia problem, you might want to get involved in
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Close the upstream bug, and move this bug to the correct nvidia package
in Ubuntu.

[Bug 172258] Re: amd64 version of gstreamer0.10-pitfdll?

2009-04-08 Thread Anders Østerholt
I don't think this is a duplicate.

From the authors file(from 2005):
Based on the Xine plugin (http://xine.sf.net/)
Which is once again based on avifile (http://avifile.sf.net/)
Which is, more so, based on Wine (http://winehq.org/)

If you have a look at the source, you'll see a lot 32bit specific stuff.

Maybe 64bit wine is more ready now, and somebody could implement what's
needed to load dll's from w64codecs?

[Bug 164454] Browsing nokia e65 buggy

2007-11-22 Thread Anders Østerholt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-vfs-obexftp

When browsing the phone it sometimes manages to go through c: data and a
few more. At some point the opening of a new directory stops working and
directories are displayed as blank files.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth connection in the phones
bluetooth menu seems to fix it for a while.

Seems to be browsing that is broken, while file transfer works fine.

[Bug 141522] Re: [gutsy] faulty Xv extension since latest update

2007-11-15 Thread Anders Østerholt
I think textured video has been disabled in gutsy(as patch in driver),
since it does not work with composite and XAA. It does work with EXA,
but EXA was not ready for gutsy.

Would be nice to get a backport when the 2.2 driver is finished as it
will have EXA by default.

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf - Smb/Gnome sharing broken

2007-09-22 Thread Anders Østerholt
There's no problem with setting the default level to share!

When you add a shared folder, you can have it read only. And the people
having problem with editing smb.conf is probably home users not wanting
any heavy security anyway. People needing security probably knows how to
edit the config file.

At least a checkbox in shares-admin for setting the level to share would
be nice to have.

[Bug 32067] Re: the security parameter must be set to share, not user, in smb.conf - Smb/Gnome sharing broken

2007-09-22 Thread Anders Østerholt
Are you sure about that?

In samba log files I have connect to service Music initially as user
nobody

And no other traces of login stuff. No password is supplied at any
point.

I tried to look up the problem you describe, but there seems to be some
misunderstandings about level share creates some compability problems.

I also tried supplying arbitary as well as valid usernames and passwords. Note
that I have no samba users, I tried system users. None of these login attempts
were successful.

I was only able to connect with blank username. Seems like passwords is
newer read as no samba users are created. Supplying an unvalid password
with blank username works fine.
