[Bug 1667750] Re: xhci_hcd: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 13

2017-08-31 Thread André Düwel
So instead of downgrading my BIOS, I've updated it from 1.2.29 to
version 1.3.0 which was released two days ago by DELL for the XPS15
9550. USB ports at the TB16 is now working without issues again.

I don't get any checksum errors, too:
for i in 1 2 3 4; do curl -s
http://de.releases.ubuntu.com/zesty/ubuntu-17.04-server-amd64.img -o $i.iso;
md5sum $i.iso; done

[Bug 1667750] Re: xhci_hcd: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 13

2017-08-30 Thread André Düwel
Thank @Mario for this clarification, I recently updated my BIOS, too.
Since then under Linux my mouse and keyboard (connected to the USB ports
of the TB16) stop working from time to time. In Windows Mouse and
Keyboard are just sometimes laggy but don't stop completely. I will try
to downgrade the BIOS today to an earlier version.

2017-06-13 Thread André Düwel
I could reproduce this issue on my old TB15 dock with my XP15 9550, too.

@Kai-Heng Feng: Dell is replacing the TB15 with the TB16 for free,
because of heat problems and other issues especially if you use two 4k
monitors. But you need to call the service center and they do not want
the old TB15 back. ;)

[Bug 1697395] [NEW] Dell TB16 USB is not working if connected during boot

2017-06-12 Thread André Düwel
Public bug reported:

I am using a Dell XP 15 9550, if my Dockingstation (Dell TB16) is
connected during boot time, all the USB devices (like Keyboard,
Ethernet, ...) are only working while in grub boot menu. After booting
they stop working.

The two 4k screens which are connected to the dock, are working properly
in boot menu and after booting. If booting into Windows everything is
working, only linux is affected.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the dock solves this problem.

I have created the bug-report directly after boot, where the USB devices
are not working and attached "lspci-vnvn_after_reconnect.log" after
reconnecting the dock.

Hi Kai-Heng,

I can confirm your Kernel is working on my XPS 15 9550 + TB16 running
Zesty and it fixes the Ethernet issue.

But, the whole TB16 USB3 Controller including Keyboard, Ethernet and
other USB devices are still not working when connected during system
start. I need to disconnect and reconnect it after booting.

Thanks again! :)

Ohh okay, thanks for this advise I will order an adapter and try it out.

This seems to verify that the problem exists somewhere in the usb3

controller/driver itself.

[Bug 1678184] Re: APST quirk needed for Samsung 512GB NVMe drive

2017-04-20 Thread André Düwel
@sforshee: You would suggest an other solution, e.g. setting the default
value for nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us to 0, this way it is still
possible to enable the power saving features for experienced users
without having an impact to everyone else :)

[Bug 1678184] Re: APST quirk needed for Samsung 512GB NVMe drive

2017-04-20 Thread André Düwel
@Aras: I have exactly the same Laptop as you have. You do not need to
disable it completely, just change in the '/etc/default/grub' the
following line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash
nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=6000"

This way, at least the most power saving states are still enabled (6W if
disabled vs. 0,07W with PS/3) :)

[Bug 1667750] Re: xhci_hcd: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 13

2017-04-19 Thread André Düwel
Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 17.04 (fresh install), I can confirm that
this bug also affects the (now) current release and therefore kernel
version 4.10.0-19-generic.

I also now implemented an other "workaround" and bought an 7€ USB3->1Gb
Ethernet dongle, this works without issues.

[Bug 1626894] Re: nvme drive probe failure

2017-04-13 Thread André Düwel
Is it possible that this bug could also affects zesty (linux-
image-4.10.0-19-generic)?

For me it feels like this, randomly my system (Dell XPS15 9550, Samsung
NVMe PM951 512GB) hangs and I am unable to execute commands. Even dmesg
is not callable :/ ... I can reproduce this bug most of the times by
generating heavy load on the disk: `dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=4M `
which exits with a message like "unable to write to read only
filesystem".

2017-03-10 Thread André Düwel
+1, Dell XPS15 9550 + Dell TB16 + Ubuntu 16.10.

Workaround:
Limiting the connection speed to 100MBit FDX via "ethtool eth. speed 100
duplex full autoneg on" also circumvents the problem.

On Windows 10 its working without issues at full speed (Gigabit).
