[Bug 413163] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with signal 5 in xkl_process_error()

2009-08-17 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Launchpad incorrectly marks this bug as a duplicate of bug #254671
(fixed). It may be a regression, but as per the number of new apport
crash reports, this bug is clearly confirmed.

Launchpad automatically removes attachments and stack traces in this
case. Don't know how to force a re-retracing of this bug...

[Bug 410844] Re: cannot any play sound Dell XPS 1330

2009-08-15 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Bug #408784 contains a lot of complaints regarding missing sound in
Karmic with various HDA hardware (not only Dell XPS 1330).

Daniel, you say that a fix is targetted at 2.6.32, but if kernel 2.6.31
is not fixed, it is a major regression IMHO. Do you know if this bug is
reported to the ALSA kernel developers (I see nothing related to such a
regression in kernel bugzilla, LKML or bugtrack.alsa-project.org) ?

[Bug 413633] [NEW] GStreamer can't decode ADPCM files

2009-08-14 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Public bug reported:

I receive phone messages by e-mail from my voip company in the adpcm wav
file format. VLC handle these files well, but not Totem or Rhythmbox. I
suspect this is a GStreamer bug.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open attached file (08091343.wav: hanging phone) with either Totem or
Rhythmbox.
2. Both programs try to download an ADPCM codec, then fail to play the file.

[Bug 407491] Re: [karmic] gnome-power-preferences not storing settings

2009-08-02 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Attached is a screenshot of a faulty gnome-power-preferences --verbose
session.

Shutdown was selected in the When laptop lid is closed combo setting
on AC, but as we see this in the log:

- Changing /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons/lid_ac to hibernate

The same faulty behabior happens when gnome-power-preferences starts and
fills the combos, overriding the gconf values even when nothing is
changed in the dialog.

[Bug 401056] Re: package sysklogd (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 1

2009-08-02 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Here is a patch against sysklogd for Jaunty. It works by removing the
'set -e' line in postrm so that this script does not exit on the first
error.

Note that it is not bullet proof: if a non-patched Jaunty (or older)
user upgrades to Karmic, this bug *will* trigger...

RFC: rsyslog should depend on an new, dummy, postrm-fixed, karmic-
specific version of sysklogd. But how to get rid of this dummy sysklogd
package then ?

2009-08-01 Thread Arnaud Faucher
I strongly agree with Martin-Éric that this package needs a fix.

For those of you who can't wait, you can manually patch the
/var/lib/dpkg/info/sysklogd.postrm script by commenting or removing the
deluser command and then purge the package.

[Bug 406661] [NEW] [karmic] Suspend and hibernate not shown anymore since today

2009-07-29 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Public bug reported:

When pressing the power button on my laptop (Acer Aspire), or using the
Ubuntu menu, the dialog box does not show the suspend or hibernation
options anymore.

The root cause seem to be the recent devicekit - devicekit-power
transition.

[Bug 387345] Re: NM does not memorize network activation state on suspend/resume or restart

2009-07-27 Thread Arnaud Faucher
In my case (Acer laptop on Karmic), the lost state in suspend/resume was
the result of a bug caused by a recent rewrite of rfkill in the kernel
(still present in 2.6.31-rc4).

The patch located at
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/linville/wireless-2.6/0018
-acer-wmi-fix-rfkill-conversion.patch solved this. Therefore, it may not
be a problem related to network-manager, but to the kernel itself.

This bug happens when the program checks if it is not already running.
This is done through a X clipboard hack, which fails for some reason
(GDK_DISPLAY() returns NULL at line 53 of src/clipboard.c).

Why not use libunique for this purpose ?

2009-07-12 Thread Arnaud Faucher
Here is a 'bzr diff' patch on head revision (1467) for this bug.

I've also restored use of the 'set_markup()' function for
'self.label_downsize' in order to permit rich text formatting.
