[Bug 1197923] [NEW] Soft lockup on NetworkManager

2013-07-04 Thread Arno Peters
Public bug reported:

Connect to internet with wireless or tethered phone will cause this
lockup.

First symptom is the loss of network
Trying to restart network-manager: 'sudo service network-manager restart' will
trigger a lockup
After approximately 30s the system becomes responsive again but network access
is not reliable after that.

[Bug 998712] Re: domain name completion broken when dnsmasq is used

2013-04-08 Thread Arno Peters
I was experiencing a similar problem as described by submitter.

The name resolution of the short name failed, subsequently the name
resolution of the fqdn also failed. After 10-15 seconds, the fqdn
resolved again, only to fail again after trying the short name.

The solution described by Thomas Hood:

sudo kill -HUP $(pidof dnsmasq)

resolved this issue for me. It is unknown to me how dnsmasq got itself
into trouble.

2010-03-31 Thread Arno Peters
This bug is still present in version 2.2.5 in Karmic. But only for some
fonts

How to reproduce:

  Install Gentium font: apt-get install ttf-sil-gentium
  Create new card
  Add text to card, selecting font Gentium, font weight normal
  Add text to card, selecting font Gentium, font weight bold
  Print label to PDF
  Open PDF in evince

Expected:

  Same font weights in PDF as in gLabels

Seen:

  The bold gentium font has been replaced by a normal weight version.

[Bug 383546] [NEW] mount.cifs i.c.w. autofs can stop working

2009-06-04 Thread Arno Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

I have encountered this problem on at least Kubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu
9.04.

How to reproduce:

# install autofs and tools to mount cifs shares

$ sudo apt-get install autofs smbfs

$ cat /etc/auto.master
/smb/etc/auto.smb

$ /etc/init.d/autofs restart

# 'server' has a publicly accessible shares: share1, share2, share3

$ ls /smb/server
share1   share2   share3

$ ls /smb/server/share1
# contents of share1

# Switch to another terminal
$ cd /smb/server/share1

$ ls
# contents of share1

# Switch back to original terminal

# Here the trouble starts:

# Wait 5 minutes for autofs to start umounting the shares or force the issue
with
$ for s in $(mount | grep cifs | awk '{print $1}'); do sudo umount $s; done

$ ls /smb/server
share1   share2   share3

# Here trouble is actually visible:

$ ls /smb/server/share1
ls: cannot access /smb/server/share1/share1: No such file or directory
ls: cannot access /smb/server/share1/share2: No such file or directory
ls: cannot access /smb/server/share1/share3: No such file or directory
share1   share2   share3

$ mount
[...]
automount(pid4875) on /smb type autofs (rw,fd=4,pgrp=4875,minproto=2,maxproto=4)
//server/share1 on /smb/server/share1 type cifs (rw,mand)
//server/share1/share1 on /smb/server/share1/share1 type cifs (rw,mand)
//server/share1/share2 on /smb/server/share1/share2 type cifs (rw,mand)
//server/share1/share3 on /smb/server/share1/share3 type cifs (rw,mand)

None of the actual map contents is accessible after this. In the other
terminal, the map will still be accessible, but only for as long as the
cwd is on that map.

The output to dmesg shows the following output

$ dmesg

[Bug 320393] Re: keyboard unusable after logging in

2009-01-23 Thread Arno Peters
I have confirmed it this problem has the same solution as bug #199245:
disable the keyboard plugin of the gnome-settings-daemon using gconf-
editor:

  /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard

set active to False.

[Bug 320393] [NEW] keyboard unusable after logging in

2009-01-23 Thread Arno Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xrdp

Using xrdp on a default Xubuntu 8.04 works flawlessly.

Using xrdp on a default Ubuntu 8.04 installation messes up the keyboard
after logging in to the remote desktop. To reproduce:

On a test server, using a default Ubuntu installation:
  u...@testserver:~$ sudo apt-get install xrdp tightvncserver
  u...@testserver:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/xrdp start

On an other computer:
  u...@client:~$ rdesktop testserver

The xrdp login screen xrdp works as expected. After I log in, I open an
editor and I start to type:

qwertyuiop[] becomes on the screen: c.gvnmlzxyu
asdfghjkl;' becomes on the screen: abfhjk;'`io
zxcvbnm,. becomes on the screen: */d,s\[]
/ is the enter key
5 is the backspace key

This makes the keyboard totally unusable.

I have attached the contents of ~/.xsession-errors after logging in to this bug
report.
Line 34 seems to indicate metacity as the possible culprit:
  Window manager warning: Log level 32: could not find XKB extension.

[Bug 237078] [NEW] gnome-calculator eats 100% CPU on delete of malformed expression

2008-06-03 Thread Arno Peters
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Using the sequence described below, I can get gnome-calculator to start
burning 100% CPU cycles.

How to reproduce:

  1.  start gnome-calculator:
  2. set modus to Scientific Ctrl-S
  3.  type:  .933821336!
  4.  click: Rand

The expression should read: .933821336!Rand or ,933821336!Rand depending
on your locale settings

  5. click 'Enter'
  6. with the mouse select .933821336
  7. click 'Delete'
  8. watch CPU utilization go through roof.

To reproduce:

  header: printer header
  large_file: file > 140Mb
  other_file: file > 140Mb

  $ cat header large_file | lp -d DestinationPrinter -o raw
  request id is DestinationPrinter-1557 (1 file(s))

[Bug 110637] small package improvements

2007-05-03 Thread Arno Peters
Concerning the packages Carlos Briosso created:

First of all: thank you very much. On cursory inspection, the package
works very well. To make the package even easier to install/update,
please follow the suggestions below.

Please add /etc/php5/conf.d/interbase.ini with the following content:

 interbase.ini
# configuration for php interbase module
extension=interbase.so

php.ini in apache2, cli, etc. do not need to be changed any more when
using interbase.ini

Maybe also notify the user that the module will only be activated after apache2
has been restarted.

[Bug 74358] printing hatches to PostScript produces spurious lines

2006-12-04 Thread Arno Peters
Public bug reported:

I will attach a sample DXF file and the corresponding PostScript output

How to reproduce:
1. open qcad.dxf in QCad
2. print the drawing to file
3. look at the generated PostScript file, between the hatch elements are
spurious lines that are not in the DXF drawing.

These artefacts are also visible when using the vec2web tool from
Ribbonsoft. This means the bug is probably located in either the dxflib
or the qcadlib.

** Affects: qcad (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 50488] Re: I cannot open a file with spaces in its name from Nautilus

2006-12-04 Thread Arno Peters
This bug is about how QCad treats URL-type command line arguments:

How to reproduce:

1. create a DXF-file with QCad and save it somewhere (say
/home/user/Desktop/test.dxf)
2. use Nautilus to locate the file
3. using Nautilus, start QCad on the file
4. QCad tries to open /file:/home/user/Desktop/test.dxf

Similarly, from the command line:
1. $ cd /home/user
2. $ qcad file:/home/user/Desktop/test.dxf
3. QCad tries to open /home/user/file:/home/user/Desktop/test.dxf

** Summary changed:

- I cannot open a file with spaces in its name from Nautilus
+ I cannot open a file from Nautilus

** Changed in: qcad (Ubuntu)
   Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed
