[Bug 2063333] Re: gnome-remote-desktop.service: Failed to determine user credentials: No such process

2024-05-07 Thread Michael Ashley
Yes, same here. I did a fresh installation of ubuntu-24.04-live-server-
amd64 (not arm64) on two separate machines, and both experienced this
bug on every reboot after "sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop".

[Bug 1862764] Re: add-apt-repository should use signed-by

2021-11-18 Thread Ashley Waite
The 'signed-by' field is not supported in the python-apt classes that
are used by add-apt-repository and the gui software-properties.

- When adding a new source there's no argument to provide 'signed-by' or
'trusted' options, so those cannot be added via add-apt-repository or the gui
software-properties until that is corrected, and this omission appears to exist
upstream:
https://git.launchpad.net/python-apt/tree/aptsources/sourceslist.py#n309

- Adding 'signed-by' to the output of the sources so it gets written to the
sources list would be needed:
https://git.launchpad.net/python-apt/tree/aptsources/sourceslist.py#n232

- And then it'll get ignored when subsequently reading the sources list, as any
option fields present other than 'arch' and 'trusted' result in the line being
flagged as invalid, this results in the source not being listed in the
software-properties sources list - and that's actually how I ended up here
trying to work out if that failure to display had been reported as a bug yet.
So that too needs to be updated:
https://git.launchpad.net/python-apt/tree/aptsources/sourceslist.py#n196

These three changes all appear to be upstream, and navigating the debian
site was not as straight forward as here, so I'm not really clear on
where to submit a patch to make it happen, nor how easy it would be to
pull back here, so I figured I could throw the details here for someone
that's more familiar with that!

[Bug 1876654] [NEW] After upgrade to 20.04 system stops accepting mouse and keyboard input when there is intense disk activity

2020-05-03 Thread Ashley Peek
Public bug reported:

Any application that results in a period of intense disk activity causes
the mouse and keyboard to become unresponsive. When copying large files
the mouse will respond for a brief period, a few microseconds, moving
across the screen, but then won't respond for 10-15 seconds. After disk
activity has finished the mouse/keyboard respond normally again.

[Bug 1087928] Re: Could not install grub-efi-amd64/Ubuntu 12.10 upgrade

2013-01-27 Thread Ashley Robjohns
Todd,

Are you running a fake-raid also? I believe the problem is to do with
raid configuration and how grub sees the volumes. I managed to work
around this problem by installing Ubuntu alongside Windows, then running
the Boot Repair from the Ubuntu live cd. It corrected the problem, but
it will reoccur if grub is updated in the future. It will however get
things working in the time being.

[Bug 1039830] [NEW] Acer eMachines E725 High Pitched Whine with Ubuntu 12.04

2012-08-21 Thread Ashley Meek
Public bug reported:

Acer eMachines E725 High Pitched Whine with Ubuntu 12.04

related to kernel

After updating to Ubuntu 12.04 my laptop emits a high pitched whining
sound from where I assume is the GPU. I encountered the common "black
screen on boot" bug and can use workarounds to deal with that however,
the whining noise persists. I followed the suggestion of others and
changed to:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
i915.invert_brightness=1"

in my /etc/grub file. Mysteriously, the whining noise was gone and the
"black screen on boot" issue was fixed, but this left me unable to
acheive maximum screen resolution. But that's beside the point (b/c it
causes the VESA driver to load up instead of Intel for some reason).

All of this had lead me to believe that there is a bug with the Intel
graphics driver for my model of laptop which uses the Mobile Intel
Series 4 chipset.

My laptop operates perfectly on Ubuntu 10.04, no whining noise, no
"black screen on boot" issue.

[Bug 946677] Re: UMS dri support missing for r200

Thanks for mentioning that workaround, Carl. I've noticed it seems to
have allowed AIGLX to load properly but if I run glxgears the computer
(a Powerbook G4 15") hangs and I need to power off. Do you have working
GL support?

[Bug 791089] Re: crash after rebooting from Ubuntu 11.04

2012-04-30 Thread Ashley Cooper
Hi - this happens to me too. Very new to linux (<1 year) - Dual boot
windows7 64 bit with linux mint 64bit (currently) also happened with
ubuntu 11.10 (why i tried mint, still happens!) - asus p5n32-e sli
motherboard, 8GB ram, nvidia gtx, etc.

Every reboot from linux to try and get back into windows for a few legacy
programs causes a POST fail "press f1 to continue" etc. as previously
mentioned. Two reboots later and windows loads fine. I havent disabled nv_tco
yet, hoping for a better solution?
let me know if you want more apport information and how to provide this. Many
thanks for your help.

[Bug 969949] [NEW] Suyin Corp. Acer/HP Integrated Webcam [CN0314] stopped working

2012-03-31 Thread Ashley Hooper
Public bug reported:

Webcam has stopped working. System is running Ubuntu 11.10, and the
webcam is listed as follows by 'lsusb':

064e:a103 Suyin Corp. Acer/HP Integrated Webcam [CN0314]

I have tried 'cheese', luvcview, guvcview and mplayer, and all give
errors.

luvcview probably provides the best information of any of the above:

$ luvcview

luvcview 0.2.6

SDL information:
 Video driver: x11
 A window manager is available
Device information:
 Device path: /dev/video0
Stream settings:
Frame format: YUYV (MJPG is not supported by device)
Unable to set format: Input/output error
Init v4L2 failed !! exit fatal

At this stage it is very difficult to tell if the problem is with the uvc
driver itself or with V4L2.

[Bug 803708] Re: rt61pci module fails after some period of time

2011-09-23 Thread Ashley Hooper
I have the same problem on Xubuntu 11.04. After some length of time, the
computer stops responding to pings. Unloading and reloading the rt61pci
module fixes it immediately. I have tried two different wireless cards,
and both were affected (Edimax and D-Link). I wonder if there is a way
to detect this condition somehow? In my case there was no sign of any
problem in the dmesg output.

[Bug 849906] Re: Cannot connect to Cisco VPN through network-manager in Kubuntu 11.10

2011-09-16 Thread Dustan Ashley
This morning after a full update of the system I attempted to connect to
the VPN, was instantly prompted for passwords (I believe this was where
things were failing before, usually where the regression appears each
release...) and it is now working without an issue for me.

It appears updates released on or before 2011/09/16 have resolved this.

[Bug 774475] Re: Lexmark multifunction printer does not work as scanner after upgrade to Natty

2011-09-12 Thread Ashley Hooper
I've managed to make this work by installing the versions of libsane and
libsane-extras from Debian Squeeze.

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/sane-backends/libsane_1.0.21-9_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/sane-backends-extras/libsane-extras_1.0.21.2_i386.deb

Install the packages from Nautilus or the Ubuntu software centre. Or use
the CLI as follows:

sudo dpkg -i libsane-extras_1.0.21.2_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i libsane_1.0.21-9_i386.deb

Finally, you'll need to pin the version of libsane to the newly-
installed version:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/preferences.d/libsane

Now paste the below contents into the file, save and exit.

Package: libsane
Pin: version 1.0.21-9
Pin-Priority: 900

Confirm it is working using the apt-cache policy command:

$ apt-cache policy libsane
libsane:
  Installed: 1.0.21-9
  Candidate: 1.0.21-9
  Package pin: 1.0.21-9
  Version table:
 1.0.22-2ubuntu1 900
500 http://nz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages
 *** 1.0.21-9 900
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The asterisks indicate the installed version from Debian Squeeze has
priority over newer versions, so update manager won't upgrade you back
to the broken version.

[Bug 745183] Re: Gwibber should open links in the default browser

2011-07-17 Thread Ross Ashley
Found a way to fix it manually! Open a Konsole and type [code]sudo
update-alternatives --config x-www-browser [/code]

You will be presented with a list of every browser on your installation,
with the current default at the top. Type in the number on this list of
the browser you prefer, hit enter ... it will now be your default
browser in every application.

[Bug 763422] Re: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-12 Thread Dustan Ashley
Also, disabling the screensaver/screen locking is a workaround, but not
one I'm happy with given the security implications on a laptop.

[Bug 763422] Re: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-12 Thread Dustan Ashley
I also have the screen blanking issue which requires a reboot to resolve
(Same behaviour, can only see the mouse pointer). This is a complete
show stopper for me as I now have to reboot far more frequently than in
windows.

I am not sure how widespread this is, but I can confirm it presents on all
three of my 11.04 installations (One running the nVidia binary display drivers,
and the other two on different Intel chipsets).

The priority on this should be escalted.

[Bug 687567] Re: Global menu causes white "flashes" when scrubbing/moving with mouse fast over menus

2011-04-29 Thread Dustan Ashley
Yes. I think Daniel is correct in this regard. As mentioned in #21 and
#24 disabling the fade animation only reduces the time that the artifact
is displayed, it is definitely still there.

I can also confirm that the problem behavior exists on Intel graphics
chips as well as nVidia.

There's no impact to functionality though, so I can see why it was a
lower priority during the release push.

[Bug 687567] Re: Global menu causes white "flashes" when scrubbing/moving with mouse fast over menus

2011-04-20 Thread Dustan Ashley
Problem behavior still exists. Tested with both nVidia (nonfree-bin
driver) and intel systems running fully up to date Natty beta2 installs.

Disabling the fade animation on the menus mitigates the problem, but it
seems to only be removing the extra 80ms that the menu would normally be
fading out. The white boxes are definitely still present when switching
between menus rapidly with the fade animation disabled.
