This is apparently caused by my locale, being "ru_RU.koi8-r". When I set
the locale to C, it opens, but all the folders are empty. The terminal
is spammed with:

etc.

I would also consider replacing short month names with Roman numerals
{I..XII} and using alternative digit symbols to represent months in
genitive case, as it was done in Ukrainian locale.

I think that the fact that all those strings are translatable shows that they are indended for human users and should be translated in human-readable and understandable form. If your script makes any assumptions about verbatim output text in current system locale, that script should be discarded as obsolete and incompatible with locale mechanism. If you think that those strings should not be translated, submit corresponding bug for net-tools or wherever package it is in, and have discussion with its developers, convincing them to hardcode those strings.
