[Bug 1225617] Re: Acpi does not recognize a power cable unplug leading to weird battery and power saving issues

2013-09-18 Thread Axx83
If I unplug the cable:

me@me-Aspire-S7-391:~$ acpi -b
Battery 0: Full, 100%, rate information unavailable

after I unplugged the cable
me@me-Aspire-S7-391:~$ acpi -b
Battery 0: Discharging, 100%, 03:47:59 remaining

while acpitool reads
me@me-Aspire-S7-391:~$ acpitool -a -b
  Battery #1 : Discharging, 100.0%, 00:00:00
  AC adapter : off-line

if I plug it back in (apci_listen has the same readings as reported)
me@me-Aspire-S7-391:~$ acpi -b
Battery 0: Charging, 94%, 00:20:16 until charged

me@me-Aspire-S7-391:~$ acpitool -a -b
  Battery #1 : Charging, 95.08%, 00:20:00
  AC adapter : online

but apci_listen still saw reversed, I unplug it says plugged, I plug
back in it says unplugged and stays like this

[Bug 510598] [NEW] all power savings do not kick in when going from ac to battery power (acer travelmate 5720)

2010-01-21 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On an Acer Travelmate 5720 with intel chipset, graphic card and
processor, the computer does not implement power saving scripts (pm-
utils) and screen brightness dim (gnome-power-manager) when going from
ac to battery power. Literally unplugging the ac cable.

It does implement all the above when resuming from suspend or hybernate,
and also when going from battery to ac (plugging the cable) if
previously it was set on battery mode.

Otherwise gnome-power-manager recognize the battery, the charge, the
fact that the cable has being unplugged and all of that, icon changes
normally.

[Bug 493564] [NEW] compiz show desktop slides maximized windows very differently

2009-12-07 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

If I set the "show desktop" plugin of compiz making windows slide to
left/right when activated then compiz will behave very differently
according to what types of window is active at the moment.

The attached video shows it perfectly, when a smaller window is active,
then slide is perfect, when the bigger maximized video is active then
the movement is too fast and totally different than before.

[Bug 487708] [NEW] Brightness control present for ac and absent for battery

2009-11-24 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

gnome-power-manager 2.28.1-0ubuntu1
Ubuntu 9.10

The default menu of g-p-m is reductive (and that's a designer's choice)
to the point that it's dumb (designer's mistake).

The brightness control bar is present for ac condition, I can actually
set my pc to NOT have maximum brightness when on ac. USELESS for 99% of
population. But not for when the pc is on battery power, that is stuck
on 50% reduction unless you tinker with gconf-editor.

This is plain stupid. The control bar should be absent for ac and
present for battery, where some people want brightness above 50% or
below if their eyes can handle it, for battery power saving issues.

[Bug 471491] Re: Scanner not recognized anymore in karmic (was in jaunty)

2009-11-03 Thread Axx83
I solved the issue.

The problem was in the scanner being moved from epson backend to epson2
backend.

Putting the right code in the right file made everything work.

Please set as solved

[Bug 471491] [NEW] Scanner not recognized anymore in karmic (was in jaunty)

2009-11-02 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.10
libsane 1.0.20-4ubuntu3
xsane 0.996-2ubuntu1
kernel 2.6.31-14-generic

My epson dx7400 scanner in JAUNTY was recognized and run by sane, xsane
found it correctly and scanned correctly. It uses sane "epson" backend,
no proprietary driver, no permission modified.

Now in KARMIC the scanner is recognized by sane-find-scanner as before,
it is NOT recognized by scanimage -L anymore and it's not recognized by
xsane anymore.

running sudo scanimage -L doesn't change anything.

[Bug 368961] [NEW] (Jaunty) suspend fails if battery saving script is in /etc/pm/sleep.d/

2009-04-28 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

If there's battery saving script putted in /etc/pm/sleep.d that includes
a line such as:

echo 6 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/iwl3945/:03:00.0/power_level

the notebook fails to suspend on Jaunty

the message in pm-suspend.log is:

/etc/pm/sleep.d/90-save_power.sh suspend suspend:
/etc/pm/sleep.d/90-save_power.sh: line 16: echo: write error: Resource
temporarily unavailable
Returned exit code 1.

where line 16 is exactly:

echo 6 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/iwl3945/:03:00.0/power_level

the notebook suspended fine on Intrepid with the same script.

What other infos should I include ?

Thanks

[Bug 297213] Re: Intrepid: Missing hdaps_ec kernel module

2009-04-27 Thread Axx83
That is completely ridiculous. Nda is a PERSONAL binding contract, If
you are not under a nda yourself and you obtain infos that bind someone,
no one can do anything to you, the infos are not protected by a patent,
can't be anymore, no action can be taken against a third part using
those info. NONE.

Now, the person who didn't respect the nda can be sued, but if no one
knows who that was and the first party of the contract doesn't take
action...WHAT IS THE PROBLEM ???

the only shadow on that is that the author of hdaps wants to remain
anonymous...why would anyone do that if he has nothing to hide ?
Probably not all is known

But my doubts stay.

what kind of non disclosure agreement could there be on an open source

it seems illogical.

I sent an email to the developers of Eschalon but they said it was not
their fault, but the programming language's, so I sent an email to the

this was the banswer I received:

Thanks, I've forwarded your email onto our developers. I'm not sure there's
much we'll be able to do, as it sounds like it's a driver-specific problem,
but it's good for us to be aware of these things all the same. If we find
out anything we'll let you know.

[Bug 324292] Re: (Jaunty) Eschalon Book I runs only in windowed mode and it's terribly slow with Intel video cards

2009-02-05 Thread Axx83
Thanks for the help on this, I'm a newbie regarding bugs.

The reply I got here:
http://basiliskgames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2080#p16840
was from the developers at Hothead, the creators of Penny Arcade's "On the
Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness", and I guess their problem is quite different
since their game is full 3d and all that stuff while Eschalon is totally 2d. I
emailed them because neither that game runs on my intel card.

But again I'm no expert on drivers and 3d stuff, I just know a lot about
patents and did a quick search.

Actually I'm a bit puzzled about Eschalon running VERY FINE on hardy
while it runs so bad on Jaunty (and not at all on Intrepid) but so many
things are involved in this that things like this can happen I guess.

I'll email the developers of Eschalon about this bug and the possibility
for them to solve it by collaboration with the drivers programmers.

Thanks again for the help.

[Bug 324292] [NEW] (Jaunty) Eschalon Book I runs only in windowed mode and it's terribly slow with Intel video cards

2009-02-02 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Eschalon Book I is a very good native commercial Linux game that should
run well on computers with poor video cards and poor overall specs. This
is the homepage: http://basiliskgames.com/book1.html

My computer is a Thinkpad x60s with Intel L2400 cpu, 1G of ram, intel 945
chipset with intel 950 video card.
On my computer running a live of jaunty (a daily build: 2 feb 2009) from a usb
stick, with the game loaded on my regular hard drive (with intrepid of course),
the game runs ONLY in windowed mode. When it runs it is slow to the level you
cannot even play it, the game does not crash but you are forced to quit because
it become unresponsive.
If I try to run it in full screen all I get is a black screen with no music and
no loading in the background.

In this other bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/321401 I reported the
logs I got out of it.

Of course the game runned well on Hardy, didn't run at all on Intrepid,
and now runs poorly on jaunty.

I've tried the daily build of Jaunty on a usb and the game actually
runs.

I was running it live, not installed, and probably that's one of the
reasons for the game to run so slow, it was unplayable and run only in
windowed mode, if I selected fullscreen I just got a black screen.

I forgot to extract xorg log and I'll do it as soon as I can.

Thanks for the attention

[Bug 321401] [NEW] Eschalon doesn't start on Intrepid with Intel graphics

2009-01-26 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Eschalon Book I is a native Linux game with fairly low system requirements.
The game doesn't start on Intrepid with Intel graphics (945) giving this
message:

u...@user-laptop:~/eschalon_book_1$ ./eschalon_book_1

This bug persists on every computer with similar intel graphic card, running
Ubuntu 8.10.
With other video cards the game runs fine.
Specifically my laptop is a Thinkpad X60s with Intel 945 video card.

Same bug here:

amd64 with nvidia binary drivers

removing ooffice gtk and ooffice gnome makes it work but of course
without the default interface.

[Bug 234601] [NEW] hdapsd doesn't work in Hardy despite hdaps-gl working perfectly

2008-05-24 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hdapsd

I have successfully loaded the tp_smapi and the hdaps_ec module in a
Hardy installation on my Thinkpad X60s:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsmod
Module Size Used by
[...]
hdaps_ec 14556 0
tp_smapi 23952 0
thinkpad_ec 8464 2 hdaps_ec,tp_smapi
[...]

I install both the hdapsd packet and the hdaps-utils packet via
synaptic, I reboot and i try to run the hdapsd deamon to protect my hard
drive:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ hdapsd -d sda -s 15 -a
WARNING: Cannot open hdaps position input file
/dev/input/hdaps/accelerometer-event (Permission denied). You may be using an
incompatible version of the hdaps module, or missing the required udev rule.
Falling back to reading the position from sysfs (uses more power). Use '-y' to
silence this warning.
open(protect_file): No such file or directory

if I run it with sudo:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo hdapsd -d sda -s 15 -a
Password or swipe finger:
open(protect_file): No such file or directory

but when I run hdaps-gl IT WORKS I can see the 3d image of my computer
moving and the movement is perfect, totally calibrated.

In fact /dev/input/hdaps/accelerometer-event is actually present on my
comp, because hdaps installed a udev rule that creates this sym link,
the link is root only tough, probably that is why I can't access it
without sudo.

the Ubuntu version is:
Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

the tp_smapi and the hdaps_ec modules are in the package:
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-generic
or
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-17-generic
probably both but I'm running 2.6.24-17 kernel now

[Bug 135879] Re: [needs-packaging] SDLMAME

2007-10-30 Thread Axx83
The deb I downloaded and installed is this one: sdlmame_0.120a-
0ubuntu1_amd64.deb, it works very well, I once tried to install sdlmame
from source but it ran very slow for no apparent reason, yours is
flawless so far. As for the names maybe i got confused, the 32 bit
versions are the same on both sites.

Thank you anyway, and let's hope you get more positive reviews

the packets have different names than the ones here

[Bug 135879] Re: [needs-packaging] SDLMAME

2007-10-28 Thread Axx83
Uhhh I get it, that's why the packages need so much time to be included.
It's the drawback of having a stable release tough and that's ok because
stability comes before preatty much everything.

Why don't you make a website to sponsor your packages ? They are really
really good, much better than the ones everyone is using these days
"http://wallyweek.altervista.org/index.php"; in my opinion.

Thank you.

[Bug 151541] gstreamer audio cd playback problems

2007-10-11 Thread Axx83
Public bug reported:

I have a problem with audio cd playback on my computer. I'm using Ubuntu
7.10 64bit beta but the bug is just the same with 7.04 32bit (same
computer).

With every program that uses gstreamer like rhytmbox, exaile, sound
juicer and others apps cd playback has buffer problems, the song start
with strage noises like scratching on a vinyl disc, then the song plays
normally, these noises get worse if I skip forward or backward manually,
they usually last for a couple of seconds but sometimes the song plays
badly even in the middle without me skipping manually. If I extract the
song with sound juicer the noises are exactly the same when I play the
mp3/ogg file.

In xmms cd playback is flawless, even if I set the cd plugin to digital
and not analog playback, it's slower to start but the song plays without
problems. Same thing with Vlc, perfect result.

I came to the obvious conclusion that it's gstreamer, I have dma on and
IO set to 32, actually ubuntu does that by itself I haven't modified
anything.

My comp specs are:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9-RH http://www.giga-
byte.co.uk/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx
?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2294&ProductName =GA-K8N51GMF-9-RH

Athlon64 processor, 1g of ram, Nvidia 7300gs video card

cd/dvd: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B on primary master which means dev/hda

/dev/hda:
IO_support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
