[Bug 512157] Re: qcad-data is listed on doc

2010-06-04 Thread Ben Crisford
This seems more like a question than a bug so I am converting it :).

A bug report documents a problem with a package, your report simply
asked a question about a package.

[Bug 536975] Re: Qcad menu entry lacks a category in lucid 10.04

2010-05-28 Thread Ben Crisford
Hey Anton!

Thank you for your work :)!

Unfortunately there does seem to be a problem with the debdiff. What
seems to have happened is that you're debdiff describes the old content
of the edited files as new content, and your new content as the original
content.

What I imagine has happened, is when running the debdiff command you compared
the .dscs in the wrong order. The problem should be resolved by re-running the
debdiff command, but with this syntax:
debdiff original.dsc new.dsc new.debdiff
But obviously replace original and new with the correct filenames :).

Thank you for your help so far :D!

2010-03-28 Thread Ben Crisford
I've talked this through with a marble developer, and he is going to
report it on the kde bug tracker.

The problem seems to be that the correct co-ordinates of Douarnenez are
-4.35,48.1 but in the data files they are listed as 4.35,48.1 . As you
can see, the negative sign was left off, which caused the location of
Douarnenez to be the wrong side of Prime Meridian. But because prime
meridian goes through France, the error was small enough not to be
noticed until now.

Thank you for your report chevrel, and well done for noticing!

will not disable the successful login and logout sounds. Go to Settings
 - Sounds and set the sound theme to no sounds to disable these.

 1) Disable all sounds for the login screen via gconf
 $ sudo su gdm -c gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds
 --type bool false

 -OR-

 2) Rename the system-ready.ogg sound file
 $ sudo mv -v /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo/system-ready.ogg{,.disabled}

 BUG
 ==
When you log into Karmic using a Gnome session, you get a drum sound.
There are many situations where you need a silent boot process, but it
appears that this is impossible under Karmic.

In Jaunty and previous, you could configure gdm to log you in silently.
This configuration has been removed from Karmic. Even opening Sound
Preferences and choosing No sounds for Sound theme or disabling window
and button sounds does not prevent the login sound from occurring.

Users must have the ability to login silently.

I've been working on a kiosk project using matchbox and gnome-panel, and
pessulus gives a missing import warning with bugbuddy unless
python-gnome2-desktop is installed. Therefore, I recommend that
python-gnome2-desktop be added as a dependency for pessulus, as it would have
saved me quite a bit of work trying to figure out where the python module for

[Bug 306876] Re: Switch to russian interface is not working

2009-06-01 Thread Ben Crisford
I had a look on gcompris.

When it has a translation listed which you don't have installed, it does say so
with a little red cross to the left of the writing, but it would be good if at
the bottom of the page is said something like:
REDCROSS - Requires package language-pack-gnome-ru-base

I'll have a look at this though, and see if I can come up with a
suitable patch, but i'm not great at packaging and all that so I am very
sorry if it takes a while for me to complete.

A bug controller might wish to change the status of this bug to
wishlist. I will update the description/summary so it mentions there
already is a system for saying if language packs aren't installed, but
it needs improvement.

Cheers,
Ben

** Changed in: gcompris (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = In Progress

** Changed in: gcompris (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Ben Crisford (bencrisford)

** Summary changed:

- Switch to russian interface is not working
+ Translations not installed with gcompris by default.

** Description changed:

- On ubuntu 8.10, if I choose russian interface, the interface remains to
- be on english.
+ On ubuntu 8.10 (is reproducable in 9.04 also), if I choose russian
+ interface, the interface remains to be on english.

Turns out that the required /usr/share/locale-
langpack/ru/LC_MESSAGES/gcompris.mo file is located in package language-
  pack-gnome-ru-base

The package is not installed by default, so potential gcompris users can
  get frustrated over the problem.

I see several solutions to the problem, none of which is optimal:
  1) provide gcompris-lang-XX package that would include the file or be
dependent on the language-pack-gnome-ru-base

  2) make gcompris-sound-ru to suggest or recommend the language-pack-
  gnome-ru-base

  3) make gcompris to show warning from GUI that one needs to install so
an so package to gain russian interface.
+
+ NOTE: It does inform the user that the language pack is not improved with a
little red cross, but it could definately be more prominant, and it doesn't
explain what it means. So perhaps at the bottom of the interface:
+ REDCROSS - Requires package example

2009-05-30 Thread Ben Crisford
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to report this bug :).

When you boot ubuntu using the method that normally gives you a blank
desktop at some stage you should have a menu with an option saying
recovery mode, select that and hit enter. If you can't find recovery
mode, boot into the blank desktop and hit Ctrl+Alt+F6.

Now you should have a command line (black background, white writing). Log in
(if it prompts you to), and then type:
init 2

That might sort your problem?

[Bug 381901] Re: No desktop after login, after fresh install of 9.04

2009-05-30 Thread Ben Crisford
Hmm, thats interesting.

You could do the same again and try the command startx (sans quotes),
but i doubt it will help, and I don't expect you to try it.

Could you boot normally with a USB memory stick inserted, when the black
screen shows, press Ctrl+Alt+F6. It should give you a command line (if
it doesn't then don't worry and post back here saying so).

At the command line, log in, and then run this command:
sudo cp ~/.xsession-errors /media/name-of-usb

Note the sudo at the beginning, as well at the space between cp and ~,
and the space between s and /.
Replace name-of-usb with the name of your usb, i.e. the name that appears
in My Computer when you are in windows, if it has spaces then I THINK you
should type name%20of%20usb instead of name of usb but im not entirely sure.

After you run that command it should ask you for your sudo password
(likely to be the same password as your user account if you dont know
it). After you hit enter it will copper the error log onto your USB. :)

Well this is pretty odd :/.

The bug is either a gnome bug or an X. bug, and as it worked
(temporarily) when you ran startx I am assuming that the bug is in X.

I'll add that to also effects. But I am not sure whether to confirm
this bug or not. You are certainly having difficulties, I don't doubt
that, but I don't know if this is actually a bug or something unique to
your system.

[Bug 379094] Re: nothing is displayed, no buddy list, nothing (Pidgin)

2009-05-22 Thread Ben Crisford
I think I am right in thinking you are confirming that this isn't a bug.

:)

And no problem, its been a pleasure helping you.

Please don't be put off reporting bugs in the future. When in doubt -
report it, and if it isn't valid then someone like me will mark it so.

Thanks,

If you are booting live then I don't think there should be anything in
the home folder anyway.

This is only in fact a bug if you install it and have an empty Home
folder. (I think anyway).

2009-05-20 Thread Ben Crisford
Hey!

Thanks for taking the time to file this bug report :).

I don't suppose a screenshot is possible? Of you creating the account
in the installer, and then one of the account being not there
afterwards.

If you can't take a screenshot, then you might be able to use a
phone/digital camera.

Don't worry too much if you can't get the screenshot, but they are in my
opinion the best evidence for most bug reports to be confirmed.

[Bug 378721] Re: evolution displays wrong notification of new messages

2009-05-20 Thread Ben Crisford
Hey!

Thank you for taking the time to file this bug report :).

This sounds stupid, but often unread mail can be lost amongst floods of
read mail. So it would be great if you could double check that you
don't have an unread message hidden somewhere in your inbox.

If you don't, and this problem still continues when you try and
reproduce it again, then post here and I will confirm it right away :D.

You can do this by clicking on the time/date Edit General Show
seconds.

[Bug 373889] Re: cant send files to my PC

2009-05-09 Thread Ben Crisford
I have just tried sending a picture from my Nokia 5000 to my PC (running
jaunty also), this worked in intrepid, but it isn't working now.

I can connect PC Laptop by 'Browsing files on device' successfully, but
if I try sending the file from the phone, unsuccessful.

However, it worked with gnome-obex-server.

This could be a common problem with nokias. If anyone else has a nokia,
it would be awesome if you could test it as well. I think we can afford
to confirm this, but I would rather check with someone in the know that
this is actually a bug.

2009-05-09 Thread Ben Crisford
A bit more information would be brill if thats ok.

First of all, it would be better if you didn't rely on the title to
explain the bug :).

Also, could you tell us how you produced this problem in detail, because
people such as me - new to kompozer might struggle to try and reproduce
it.

And one other thing; as I said, I am new to kompozer, and for the bug to
be confirmed we need to know what you would have expected to happen when
you took the actions which produced the bug.

Please don't be put off by these criteria, they're just there to get

[Bug 373791] Re: cannot connect wireless with jaunty

2009-05-09 Thread Ben Crisford
I am going to confirm this.

Obviously I cannot reproduce this as we have different network cards.

But I think there is sufficient information to come to the conclusion
that this is in fact a bug. If I am wrong I encourage anyone to correct
me, and ultimately a bug controller will have to decide whether to
triage this or not. But based on the information given, id say this is
worthy of confirmation.

If anyone else has a broadcom card, it would be fantastic if you could
comment.

Cheers,
Ben

[Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-05-09 Thread Ben Crisford
Hey :),

Don't suppose you could tell us a few more details?

Does the 'garbage' disappear after a while? If so - how long?
And also - is this with all applications or just opera?
And finally - Do you have desktop effects enabled?

It would be great if you could add them to the description.

Sorry for asking awkward questions, i'm just trying to help your bug be
fixed as quickly and as easily as possible. And thanks for the bug
report!

Cheers,
Ben
