[Bug 627503] Re: [Analog Devices AD1988] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-09-07 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

I have a clue : it seems to be related to the nVidia proprietary
drivers. I could reproduce the problem on an openSuSE fresh install :
sound works out of the box, is lost after install of the drivers and
comes back after uninstalling it ...

Regards,
Benoît Malet

[Bug 627503] Re: [Analog Devices AD1988] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-09-01 Thread Benoit Malet
Already installed 1.0.23 from source using this procedure :
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810#post6589810

No effect.

Tried to add a "model=3stack" in the config file (also described in the
mentioned post), no effect ...

Tried to remove the pulseaudio config files, no effect.

alsamixer confirms the correct channels are unmuted.

Not really a polished product wanted for an LTS (I waited the 10.04.1 to
update my 8.04 in order to avoid bad surprises, no luck ...).

Problem is partially solved after daily update. Boot is now able to
complete, but my graphic card is not used properly and restricted
drivers manager doesn't detect it (was detected properly before partial
upgrade).

Seems problem is less critical now, as I can still use nv is I want to

[Bug 194650] Re: computer locks up using rt61pci

2008-04-10 Thread Benoit Malet
Had to blacklist rt61pci driver and use CVS legacy rt61 driver from
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com

So far, it passed the torture test : transfer of huge files on the
network (samba) in 54Mbps mode, while using bittorrent and playing
online flash games ...

In the same conditions with rt61pci driver, I would already have been
forced to reboot !

Don't know if it helps ... In any case, available for any complementary
information.

2008-04-10 Thread Benoit Malet
Seems that it's a bug that has already been corrected upstream, but the
correction won't be available in 2.6.24 ...

Maybe that for the release for Hardy it might prove useful to blacklist
these modules and to use legacy driver ... I'll try this later this day
and report here ...

Happens also with my Ralink based WiFi PCI card (see lspci -vv output)

Happens really fast when I set transfer rate to 54Mbps (sudo iwconfig

Happens more often when transferring on a Samba share.

Will try to put as many documentation as possible. Do not hesitate to
ask for more ...

[Bug 162802] Re: Crash on boot after Gutsy upgrade. Same with LiveCD.

2007-11-18 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

Indeed I arrived at a BusyBox screen (at first I wasn't patient enough
to get it). I took pictures (sorry for quality) of the crash (Crash 1/3
to 3/3), Tried the modprobe command, but it didn't work (you have a
screenshot of the result) ... And while I was taking pictures, I issues
cat /proc/modules and sent the result.

As required, I also sent the dmesg and lsmod from the older kernel.

Hope this helps !

I'm available for any comment or extra diagnosis.

Thanks for your help and regards !

[Bug 162802] boot : modprobe fails directly after Gutsy upgrade

2007-11-14 Thread Benoit Malet
Public bug reported:

Hello !

As the Gutsy LiveCD crashed on boot, I installed 7.04 and then upgraded
immediately.

Feisty did run flawlessly, but Gutsy didn't boot.
I edited the GRUB param so that I could see the kernel messages, and I get an
error saying that /sbin/modprobe failed. It is preceded by some lines seeming
like a core dump indicating that module loaded is ide related (I can try to
boot again and take picture if you think it's relevant).

Of course, as ide fails and as all my HDs are ide, I'm writing this
using the previous kernel ...

I'll post an lspci output taken from this same machine.

Thanks and regards,
Benoît

[Bug 153030] [gutsy] content of a FAT partition put in trash by system

2007-10-15 Thread Benoit Malet
Public bug reported:

Hello !

I'm using Gutsy (last beta) and I was in the process of upgrading to RC.

I have a FAT FS located on the same SATA drive than my / and /home.
There is also an NTFS with XP on it.

After boot time, I log as my regular user, then see the trash applet
showing that I trashed something. I go on and empty the trash, but I
clicked to fast and the whole content of the FAT partition is gone
(~90Gb). Why the content of this partition went in the trash bin, I
don't know, but it's quite annoying ...

I'm ready to give any info you need just after I finish the recovery ...

(I'll also check if the problem still occurs after upgrade to RC)

Regards,
Benoit

[Bug 116428] Re: 7.04 liveCD crashes at boot time

2007-05-23 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

In the specific case of the LiveCD, you can modify kernel option this
way :

Boot the CD
When at the menu, press F6 -> the boot options are shown
Append "acpi=off" (without the quotes) to the line shown

Hope this helps ...

[Bug 111823] Freeloader moves too much files when done

2007-05-02 Thread Benoit Malet
Public bug reported:

Hello !

I setup freeloader to download in a /xxx/temp directory, and move files
to /yyy when done.

I have 6 torrents from 1 serie, which download each some files from a
whole. Of course, they put all their files in the same directory in
/xxx/temp/title. When first torrent is completed, the complete
/xxx/temp/title is moved, also removing the temp files from the other
torrents.

I had to copy back all the files in the temporary directory to allow the
other torrents to go on.

Regards,
Benoît

[Bug 37556] Re: unable to set upload rate limit

2007-05-02 Thread Benoit Malet
Same problem as described ...
The only workaround I found was to open Freeloader, then change settings and
after having set my upload limit, then launch the first torrent ... Whenever
the client is closed, then the settings come back to 0.

[Bug 103297] Re: Kernel updater doesn't update grub's menu, lst correctly

2007-04-18 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

I also have a similar problem, probably it has the same cause:

I manually edited my menu.lst to open console in framebuffer and I
removed the use of splash and quiet (I like to see the lines flying
while kernel is booting ;)) ... After kernel update (Ubuntu 6.10,
standard updater), grub config comes back to default ...

Ticket #5167 from support seems to have the same cause too, I'll link
the support request to this bug ...

I'm available for every info that could be needed.

Regards,
Benoît

[Bug 92748] Re: Latest Feisty Fawn Breaks Dell Laptop Intel Wireless

2007-03-17 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

In GNOME, it just says "Disconnected" ... I see the picture of 2 screens
on top right of my screen (with an attention mark), with the bar that
should be green which is orange.

So I guess it's not an issue with the driver for the card itself, but
with how it's used/setup for Internet use ...

It's not only Internet that won't come, it's just not connected to any
network ...

Hope this clarifies the situation ...

(this is not really critical as the wired networking is OK)

Benoît

[Bug 92748] Re: Latest Feisty Fawn Breaks Dell Laptop Intel Wireless

2007-03-16 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

I checked on my laptop ... In fact, kernel -11 is installed and
restricted modules also ... I have all the latest updates for all the
packages, but it still won't work ...

I guess the WiFi card is still recognized, as in the properties I can
choose my network (ESSID) and it even gives me the quality of the signal
(86% at the moment). I'm certain my connection settings are OK and I use
DHCP.

Just ask if you need to know more ...

Benoît

[Bug 92748] Re: Latest Feisty Fawn Breaks Dell Laptop Intel Wireless

2007-03-16 Thread Benoit Malet
Hello !

I faced exactly the same problem yesterday with a no-brand laptop with
exactly the same WiFi card. (Intel 2200BG)

In fact, some of the kernel related packages were not installed (they
were updated this morning), so maybe it might come from inconsistencies
between kernel packages (some kernel packages installed and some not
installed)

I had no time to test WiFi after the update of this morning, but I'll
check tonight if the problem is solved ...

Benoît

Hello !

Yesterday I performed a successful install of Feisty Fawn Herd 4 on the
same computer ... Everything just went smoothly ! Piece of cake ! So I
guess this bug could be closed (as the feature has been added in next
release) ...

Thanks for having investigated !
