[Bug 1825741]

2019-11-20 Thread Bernard Decock
In my case I'm using Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon. I have only this problem
as soon as I enable the extension LanguageTool and try to insert a
formula into writer. If I disable LanguageTool, then the problem is
gone.

I filed the bug as
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128491 which might
be a duplicate of this bug. Today I managed to duplicate the menu as
much as I wanted (see attachment)

[Bug 877279] Re: EOG - Image viewer hangs system when opening large image file

2015-08-17 Thread Bernard Decock
EOG 3.10.2 works fine on a computer with sufficient ram. However, if you
run this program on an older computer, eg. with only 512 MB of ram,
displaying "large" images (eg. 4000 * 6000, a common size of a modern
camera), will cause the computer to hang. The same applies to gThumb. In
order to view such images, one can use Shotwell. I reverted to a more
lightweight desktop, eg. Xfce, and Ristretto is displaying "large"
images without any issues.

[Bug 1448616] Re: xubuntu15.04 goes into sleep after power-up

2015-05-20 Thread Bernard Decock
The latest updates installed a new version of systemd which installed a
fresh copy of the power-switch-rules. After that I got the same initial
problems. So I applied the proven solution again : remove the power-
switch-rules. If every time a fresh copy of the power-switch-rules will
be installed, that will be rather annoying. I'll try to set up an empty
power-switch-rules-file in order to prevent the installation of a new
one.

[Bug 1448616] Re: xubuntu15.04 goes into sleep after power-up

2015-04-28 Thread Bernard Decock
Hi Martin,

The lid is always open (as you can't power up when the lid is closed,
the lid covers the power-button). No extra monitor is attached.

First of all, when the power-switch-rules are disabled, the machine
starts up normally (no hibernate) as well as the power-down sequence is
normal again (it just powers off => no longer to power off by means of
the terminal-command sudo shutdown - h now.

Here are the power-rules underneath:

# This file is part of systemd.
#
# systemd is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it
# under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License as published by
# the Free Software Foundation; either version 2.1 of the License, or
# (at your option) any later version.

ACTION=="remove", GOTO="power_switch_end"

SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEMS=="acpi", TAG+="power-switch"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", KERNELS=="thinkpad_acpi",
TAG+="power-switch"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", ATTRS{name}=="twl4030_pwrbutton",
TAG+="power-switch"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", ATTRS{name}=="tps65217_pwr_but",
TAG+="power-switch"

LABEL="power_switch_end"

When powering down you can shortly the Xubuntu-screen as before, while when the
power-rules are active, the screen
immediately goes black.

For the second test, I enabled the rules again and set the debug-flag.
The output of the journal is attached.

[Bug 1448616] [NEW] xubuntu15.04 goes into sleep after power-up

2015-04-26 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

The machine powers up and then goes automatically into sleep. Pressing
the power-button again gives the common log-in screen. This appears to
be timed, as if you don't succeed to enter your password within a short
time, it goes back into sleep again. During booting the screen is blank.
Once logged in, everything runs fine, except that the power-down-button
doesn't work prperly, the machine goes into sleep. You can only power
the machine down by means of sudo shutdown -h now.

[Bug 1390875] [NEW] Nautilus inconsistent usb-stick-write-protect handling

2014-11-09 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

Nautilus handles a hardware write-protected usb-stick wrong after
restarting the computer.

1. Insert only one (this is important) usb-stick which is hardware
write-protected.
2. Try to copy a file to the usb-stick (no success => ok)
3. Set the write-protect off => One can't copy a file (error-message : usb is
write-protected) => Not ok
4. Remove the usb-stick and plug the stick back in => One can't still copy a
file,   write-protected-error-message ??
5. Remove usb-stick and plug another one in => one gets the same error-message
(although other usb-stick)
6. One has to log-out/log-in before the stick can be used

If you use at first a non-write-protected stick and then afterwards a
write-protected stick, then everything behaves normal.

I added a debug-log, with a list of breakpoints. The program is receiving the

[Bug 1366152] Re: System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-08 Thread Bernard Decock
I'm able to build these packages (./configure, make and sudo make
install - after installing the missing packages). I know how to debug
C/C++-programs, but I have never done this for such a type of
application. If you can help me with some commands in order to start the
debugging of the build software, I'll find my way in finding the
problem. I see that some extra files have been installed in /usr/local,
so It looks that everything is ready to analyse the problem.

[Bug 1366152] Re: System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-06 Thread Bernard Decock
Hi,

I fear that that the backtrace will be rather disappointing, as the gdb
doesn't find any symbols for the pcscd-binary. Now the odd thing is, if
you start the gdb if you then remove the card-reader for the first time,
it doesn't crash. It is only the second time when the read is removed
that the application crashes. As there are no symbols, you get only the
addresses in the backtrace. If the gdb starts its notifies me that
already another instance of pcscd is running.

If you look at the green led of the reader, it goes out just before
ubuntu-login-screen pops up. If you remove the reader and plug the
reader back in, the green led goes on for a second or two and then goes
back out.

[Bug 1366152] [NEW] System crash when Vasco-card-reader is plugged in at powerup

2014-09-05 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

I'm using VASCO Data Security International Digipass 905 SmartCard Reader which
is working fine. However if the device is plugged in at power-up, the device
isn't handled well. Although the device is in the ilisted usb-devices,
pcsc-scan doesn't find the device at all (Which is normal as the green-led is
going out after the kernel starts). If one tries to remove the card-reader,
a system-crash happens. After that the pcscd-service seems to be halted :
pcsc_scan
PC/SC device scanner
V 1.4.22 (c) 2001-2011, Ludovic Rousseau
Compiled with PC/SC lite version: 1.8.10
SCardEstablishContext: Service not available.

One can recover from this problem by
1. Unplugging the reader
2. Manually starting the service again by sudo service pcscd start
3. Plugging back the reader in (green led stays on, red led goes on when a card
is put in)

The bug is not related to a 64-bit architecture as it happens also with
32-bit machines.

I have this issue on a Dell Inspiron 6000 after a regular shut-down. The
screen stay blank. One has to power down the machine. After powering up
everything works fine again. This phenomenon happens frequently. I don't

2014-04-20 Thread Bernard Decock
Also a problem with Canon Powershot SX20 IS (Ubuntu 14.04 and Xubuntu
14.04).

I'm getting an error : Could not claim USB Device (-53).

Indeed, as suggested by Thomas Rosted, gphoto2 --get-all-files
downsloads all the images. (But this is not a workable option for photo-
management)

   1. Restart IBus 1.5.5 => 3 keyboard-layouts are shown, the deleted one's on

[Bug 1292059] Re: Xubuntu 14.04 screenresolution = 640*480 after installation

2014-03-14 Thread Bernard Decock
I downloaded the daily-build (32 bit) and the beta-1. I upgraded an
existing virtual machine with the last one. Ubiquity is running in the
right screen-resolution of 1024*768. After upgrading the virtual machine
booted with a 640*480 screen resolution. I installed then the daily
build into another virtual machine (I did a full install) and
encountered the same problem. Installation is ok, but you get a very
small window of 640*480 after starting up the virtual machine.

[Bug 1265526] [NEW] Double timezone (Copenhagen)

2014-01-02 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

I noticed that my timezone was set to Copenhagen. When I set the
timezone to Brussels (which is the same timezone as Copenhagen, by the
way), the timezone of Brussels as well as those of Copenhagen is set in
the standard clock-applet (see image appended).

sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
Current default time zone: 'Europe/Brussels'
Local time is now: Thu Jan 2 15:11:56 CET 2014.
Universal Time is now: Thu Jan 2 14:11:56 UTC 2014.

cat /etc/timezone
Europe/Brussels

Now when one clicks on the Copenhagen-field in the clock-applet, the
Brussels-field disappears! And  cat /etc/timezone
returns now Europe/Copenhagen

[Bug 1240006] [NEW] Subsequent closing of windows results in small untitled icons in launcher

2013-10-15 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

I have an application that creates and destroys a large amount of
windows. If a lot of windows have to be closed simultaneously, then a
number of "untitled window"-icons remain in the launcher. These icons
can't be removed from the launcher until you log off.

Here's a code-snippet underneath which produces this behaviour:

#include  // includes highGUI definitions

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
  const int PlayDelay = 500;// msec
  const char Escape = 27;  // ascii-code

   CvSize FrameSize;
   FrameSize.width = 640;
   FrameSize.height = 480;

   IplImage* ImageOI = cvCreateImage(FrameSize,IPL_DEPTH_32F,3);
   cvZero(ImageOI);

std::vector WindowNames;
const int NumberOfWindows = 30;

[Bug 1121016] [NEW] Button "add engine" doesn't work properly

2013-02-10 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

The button "add" (Tools -> OCR-Engines -> Add) doesn't work properly.
If one tries to save the data you entered on the fields, then one gets
always an error-message: "Error setting the new engine; please check
your engine settings.".

I want want to specify an ocr-engine per language. Taking a copy of the
existing engine by using the "add"-button, doesn't work
(-> error-message). In order to circumvent this bug, one has to enter the
"detect"-button. A new ocr-engine-entry is then created and by editing this new
entry one accomplish the adding of an engine.

Example:

Existing ocr-engine = Tesseract

TIF

/usr/bin/tesseract
$IMAGE $FILE > /dev/null 2> /dev/null; cat $FILE.txt; rm $FILE $FILE.txt

--> The button "detect" yields a copy of this entry. You can edit this
entry and no errors will be returned.

Added ocr-engine = Tesseract-French

TIF

/usr/bin/tesseract
$IMAGE $FILE -l fra > /dev/null 2> /dev/null; cat $FILE.txt; rm $FILE $FILE.txt

[Bug 1106788] [NEW] Compiz, maximize vertically if screen edge hit, places window-controls out of reach

2013-01-27 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

When you have multiple windows of a same application opened (eg.
LibreOffice, Gimp, ...), one of the windows is always repositioned with
the window-controls out of each => each time you have to resize the
window manually and then reposition the window, so to get control of the
window-controls. I could avoid this behavior by switching the tag
"maximize vertically if screen edge hit" off. The window-controls seems
to be placed far above the top of the screen or if the size of the
window matches the vertical size of the screen then the controls are
hidden behind the top panel.

[Bug 903422] Re: Mount / Provide access to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich, ICS) MTP devices

2012-09-14 Thread Bernard Decock
Same problems when accessing an Archos 101G9-tablet

1. Command mtp-detect takes about 2 minutes in order to complete (output
is ok : see attached file)

2. gmtp fails most of the time and once it crashes, it keeps on crashing

3. Browsing the file-systeem is very slow (minutes) although downloading
files is very fast!

requested a distribution-upgrade. Xubuntu12.04 runs smooth now on my

[Bug 857326] Re: Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing

2011-09-29 Thread Bernard Decock
>>Wait now... I take it that it _looks like_ Chinese is installed (in
language-selector's "Language" tab), while it's actually _not_
>>installed as shown in LanguageSelectorLanguagesInstalled.jpg. Is that
what you mean?

Right!

I upgraded Lubuntu and now language-selector version 0.54 is installed. =>
chinese and deutch are no longer seen in the language-tabs. It was rather weird
to see that dutch was greyed out, although all dialogs were in the duct
language. For
this reason it moved the 'dutch'-tab to the top.

After that I wanted to set my preferred language to English. After selecting
"Apply system-wide" and logging out and logging back in, all the dialogs were
still in dutch, although "english" was on top and "dutch" was greyed out. After
reboot, all the
dialogs were in english (as I wanted it to be). The same procedure is required
to set the language back to dutch. So one need to reboot in stead of
logging_off/in.

>> Hmm.. Are you really sure it's a bug #859961 type of crash? I ask
because that bug only appears in v. 0.53.

Yes, I update this Lubuntu-system daily. Initially I was able to move the
language-tabs up/down. Then some days ago,
this type of crash happened as soon as the mouse was hovered over the dialog.
Today (version 0.54) everthing
seems to work well.

[Bug 857326] Re: Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing

2011-09-27 Thread Bernard Decock
Gunnar, thank you very much for your response.

First of all, I can see that chinese is installed in Lubuntu as well as in
Linux Mint Katya (See screendumps). Notice that my
preferred language = ducth (nederlands) and this language is active, but is
greyed out?

When I start the language-selector after reboot, I get a crash (bug
859961).

ll /usr/share/locale-langpack reveals that nor "deutsch" nor "chinese"
is installed.

After regenerating the locales, both "deutsch" and "chineses" are still in the
selector (dutch is still greyed out, although it is
my preferred language. I can't select it neither ... dialog doesn't respond to
the selection (due to the 859961 bug?)

>> After logging off, the preferred laguage wansn't changed. One has to
>> reboot the system before it's getting changed

>No, that's a misconception. If you change the user language from Dutch
to English and log out, you end up at the login >screen. If you log in
again instantly, you should see English as the display language.

Actually I switched the preferred language, logged off and logged back in.
Language wasn't changed. Only after reboot did the changes take place (can't
test this now, because the language-selector-dialog doesn't react on a
selection).
When I changed the language, I pressed "apply systemwide"-button. (Maybe this
option requires a reboot?)

[Bug 857326] [NEW] Selecting another preferred language in Lubuntu is confusing

2011-09-23 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

The menu for selecting another preferred language seems to be confusing
or is buggy.

1. When I set English as the preferred language after I installed Lubuntu with
preferred language = dutch,
the dutch gets grayed out in the menu?? (Although it is still installed). After
logging off, the preferred
laguage wansn't changed. One has to reboot the system before it's getting
changed

2. The menu shows uninstalled languages (such as chinese? and deutsch??)

3. When Dutch is selected back as the preferred language, then both Dutch and
English are displayed in black (which
is ok)
