[Bug 1069047] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: First of all, sorry that the given information is little bit missleading, but I didn't have a change to report properly because several reasons. However, I still believe I can give you enough information what it the problem, why it is crucial to fix it and what kind of users fill encounter this problem so that you can give them a out of box user experience. So, the main problem at hand is as follows: It is not possible to install or upgrade on this system you collected information from This includes upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04 and the fresh installation of 12.04 , 12.04.1 and 12.10. (Well, perhaps one could say that upgrade succeeded, but the new system got frozen.) OpenSuse 12.2 installed succesfully but only the offered safe mode worked. One crucial thing to note is that this problem at hand is clearly invisible to your current bug monitoring system/method. Launhcpad involves more than 100 000 bugs so you have hard time even to follow it. So, it seems that you don't get data when something goes terribly wrong in upgrades and fresh installs, do you? I do have a Android phone (Samsung Galaxy Gio) and I use it all the time when connecting my desktop to internet. I don't have any other device modem what so ever for that purpose. I don't know if this relevant from the point of solving this issue but considered it is worth reporting separately. The problem is related to Nvidia Gtx 580. Installing Ubuntu 12.10 leads to crash. It happens when I try to select language. Then the system reports about pfipo goes into loop trying to recover but failing and it gives some magnified parts of the previous installing screen. Those parts are not in any order. The screen is not readable and mouse hangs. Solution? Installing nvidia packets by apt would be fine but that option is not available. It is possible to get the livemode if the preferred language is not selected rather than just pressing enter. However, live mode is not working while mouse is not responsing nor is keybord. How the heck did I manage to install Ubuntu 12.04 to this darn machine?! Well, after that explanation you and I share the most well deserved feeling of ashame. First I changed back my old work horse Gts 250 and installed the 12.04. Then I installed offered drivers for that and rebooted. After that (as I rememer it right) I downloaded drivers suitable for Gtx 580 and shut down the machine. Removed Gts 250 and replaced the Gtx 580 to the system and the system finally booted as it should. Your part of solution: Make sure that the command line is available even before Ubuntu desktops starts up. Also make sure that the system can find internet and use apt- sources even if there is no modem available. Some of us use Androids. [Bug 350745] [NEW] Solved bugs are still hanging around as default
Public bug reported: About Bug #95886 Nicolay Korslund wrote on 2008-05-03: (permalink) "I found a quick workaround myself, $ setxkbmap no (here 'no' means Norwegian, not the opposite of 'yes'. This leads me to conclusion that there are presumably several other old bugs which has a solution but for some reason they are still not fixed. If this is the case it is quite obvious why some problems are still there year after year. For example, bug #95886 is now two years old. [Bug 231187] Re: Missing sound
I payed for professional linux support to solve this problem. Because I don't tend to give people's names to any forum I e-mailed to some developer direct contact information to reach that person. While this was rather long time ago, the exact solution of the problem is hardly remembered any more by that person. Perhaps we should leave this case as it is - at least for now. My system had so many problems during the hardy experience that unfortenately I feel it is time to move on and find a distro which suits better to my needs. Ubuntu is great in many ways but some policies practised within it are simply not for business use. One just have to be sure that essential packages for daily use are there in the next release as well. On the other hand, debian style opportunity to get the latest programs are important as well. To make my point clear, the current situation is that one has to make choise between up to date programs and a risk that essential programs are not in the repos any more. As I wish to make no flames and it would be defenately considered as such if I report this as a new bug, I sincerely hope that you make your best evaluation if this should lead to a separated bug report or not. I have two desktop computers. Both upgrades from 7.10 to 8.04 were painful. Normal internet upgrade failed during the install process and cd-upgrade's automatic option didn't work either. It was under all the other windows but nothing indicated that it even exists. Next step was to realize that cd-upgrade is defenately not going to do anything nor it is giving any instructions. The lacking piece of advise was that cd should be added to one's download sources. After that and number of error pop-ups everything seemed to be ok, but my numpad stopped responding. As I mentioned, all this happened during both hardy upgrades. Solution (which is surely not intuitive) was this already mentioned one: " 1. Go to the tab Mouse Keys and deselect [ ] Enable keyboard accessibility features." - Ubuntu - rather stable if not upgraded to LTS. -- Numeric keypad no longer works after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just hope the scene has some default settings and if not, find a buttons window. In that view press f5 and you can change the object's material settings. Click mirror trans to adjust how much mirror effect the object shall have via the RayMir slider. Remember to toggle the RayMir option. Both operating systems are now rendering slower than without ray tracing but ubuntu almost stucks. ** Affects: blender (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ray tracing too slow (not joking) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 183224] Re: Blind camera view & crash
I have difficulties to create a shared folder with the host ubuntu and usb drives are not working by default - haven't done either operation before so theres no way to import those .blend files where the problem occurs. Besides that virtualbox supports only 32-bits guests so there are too many unknowns to make sense to this kind of approach. Hopefully this bug will be marked as 'confirmed' while it seems to be related to those formerly reported bugs and therefore this might give the developers a hint for solving the problem. Of course, I'll make some tests with Hardy live-cd if you consider it would be worth that. -- Blind camera view & crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 184471] Re: Vectorblur does not work with input movies
Problem solved and originally caused by my mistake. Blender needs the input movie to be exactly the same size than the scene. In my case pixels didn't match. Besides that also persentage values have to match. Combining 640*480 scene and 50% rendering settings to 320*240 input file might cause you some problems. -- Vectorblur does not work with input movies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 184471] Vectorblur does not work with input movies
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: blender Nodes editor gives an option to combine the current scene and an image of movie file so that there is a node from both to a vectorblur filter. It is usually much faster way to get the end result than the normal mblur (motion blur). When rendering single images everything goes just fine, but usually movie files are getting black. Blender renders first the current scene and after that the image is added (black) and blurred. There was a similar problem in windows, but at the moment it seems to work in that environment. Short tutorial to replicate the bug Make an animation;) and save it. (Dont' erase the current scene or quit blender.) Open the Node editor. Press the Composite Nodes button (the face), and select Use Nodes. Boxes for render layer and composite result appear. Add/input/image. Add/filter/vectorblur. Connect image box's "image" to vectorblur's "image". Press f10 and select Render Layer. Press the blue box "Vec" and in the upper working space Render Layer gets a Speed output. Connect it to Vector Blur's Speed as well as Z to Z. Now, connect Vector Blur's Image to Composite's Image. Make sure to change the name of the Output file - you might want to keep your original animation without vectorblur (or overall black view). In the animation panel select Do Composite, then Anim. ** Affects: blender (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Vectorblur does not work with input movies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184471 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 183224] Re: Blind camera view & crash
It is possible if there exists a live cd. Otherwise I would try it out within virtualbox. [Bug 183224] Blind camera view & crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: blender This bug is probably related with #148037 and #123437 according to my findings. Camera view is totally black and objects are correctly seen only outside the camera limits. When trying to have an other angle eg. num3 or num7, blender crashes. Some .blend files are saved on camera view and then blender crashes instantly. My temporary solution is this: When opening .blend file I just keep on tapping num3 (num1 and num7 will be fine, as well) and so blender changes the view before the crash occurs. The problem occurs with three different computers, some with ati and nvidia cards. Two of the computers are running 64 bit gutsy, one is 32 bit. I had this problem with blender 2.43 and 2.44 both downloaded from official repositories. The current bug fix release 2.45 is from getdeb: http://www.getdeb.net/ ** Affects: blender (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Blind camera view & crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
