[Bug 99267] Re: USB does not have power after wake-up
Much of this is well documented in a duplicate of this bug, #106410 (I hadn't found this bug listing when I filed it): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux- source-2.6.20/+bug/106410 In addition to output from lspci and lshal, it has before/after suspend/resume logs of dmesg, lsmod, and lsusb. Should be useful for debugging. Perhaps the most interesting point is that after resume, the hub itself doesn't seem to be dead (according to lsusb), yet the devices that are plugged into it just don't get re-registered. Adjusting /etc/default/acpi-support to unload/load usb modules for the suspend/resume does get rid of the dmesg lines saying "usb usb1: root hub lost power or was reset," but the behavior doesn't change, nor does what lsusb reports. [Bug 51991] Re: Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Can be killed by remote terminal.
I ditched Beryl because it's a little too unstable for my liking at this time, especially with dual displays. Back to getting frequent hangs in X. I ran gdb and did a couple back traces: (gdb) bt #0 0x0809c8d4 in DeletePassiveGrabFromList () #1 0x08092cc5 in ProcUngrabButton () #2 0x08142531 in ?? () #3 0x0858c858 in ?? () #4 0x0858c858 in ?? () #7 0xbfa96808 in ?? () #8 0x081c7fa8 in ?? () #9 0x in ?? () I did this many times, and each trace showed roughly one of the two above stacks. This never happens when the system is in use. Occasionally, when I sit down at the system, the cpu is fluctuating in usage for no reason (I have a cpu monitor on my desktop so I notice this right away). For example, it will be constant 25%, 0%, 25%, 0%, etc. Once I start using the system, this behaviour usually goes away and X calms down and returns to normal with no noticeable usage. No freeze here. The unrecoverable hanging usually occurs after I lock the system. In KDE, I have the habit of locking it whenever I leave the system for an extended period of time (don't ask me why). At this point, I have to switch to a terminal and kill X. I want to make it clear that this is not always the case -- sometimes the lockup occurs without the session locked when I've left the computer alone for a while (usually many hours). The dmesg showed no signs of NVRM: Xid messages as suggested above when X is going crazy. When it is frozen and X is eating the cpu, I can see all the windows I had running fine, but interestingly, none of them have any window decorations -- they're all gone. The mouse moves fine but I can't click on anything or use the keyboard, except to switch terminals. Anything else I can try? I'm thinking about starting to look at ATI cards as this is awfully annoying. -- Xorg process freezes, uses 100% of CPU. Oh, the point of the above lsusb info is that the hub itself doesn't seem to be dead, just that the device that is plugged into it (the MS Intellimouse) doesn't get re-registered (btw, the device plugged into USB hub "005" is an MS keyboard). [Bug 106410] Re: Suspend/Resume breaks onboard USB in Feisty
Some progress, but no solution yet. I tried to make a workaround by manually adjusting /etc/default/acpi- support. I have managed to get rid of the "root hub lost power or was reset" error messages in dmesg, but so far the devices themselves don't work as the USB hubs themselves still seem to be dead. I think this is the most likely way to fix this problem, unless some ubuntu dev takes a look at this. It really should just work -- It's not a problem in Fedora, for example. The changes I've tried so far: # Add modules to this list to have them removed before suspend and reloaded # on resume. An example would be MODULES="em8300 yenta_socket" # # Note that network cards and USB controllers will automatically be unloaded # unless they're listed in MODULES_WHITELIST #MODULES="" #MODULES="usbhid hid usblp ehci_hcd ohci_hcd uhci_hcd usbcore" MODULES="uhci_hcd ehci_hcd ohci_hcd" I'm hoping that finding the correct combination of modules/combination/(order?) will make this work. I'm also attaching my latest dmesg output. Maybe someone else will find the correct setting. ** Attachment added: "dmesg.txt" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7556869/dmesg.txt -- Suspend/Resume breaks onboard USB in Feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106410 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 96532] Re: Wireless no longer works after upgrade
Let's not assume NetworkManager is the problem. It's great you found a solution, but NM works pretty much perfectly in Fedora Core 6. So maybe it's a problem with Ubuntu's implementation/packaging of NM, dbus, or ? I still have a couple of systems running FC6 on different wireless networks, including the unencrypted ones I'm having trouble connecting to now -- at least I can connect easily to my WPA network, and it always works even after suspend. I'm not qualified with Ubuntu to determine the exact problem, but I'm glad that there is a solution for you and others. I'll be even happier when this problem is fixed, because I want to migrate my other machines to a working Ubuntu. [Bug 89464] Re: Keyboard killed when using hostap_pci with NetworkManager
I have same problem on an IBM Thinkpad T30 with Prism2 (internal IBM "mini PCI" card) running hostap driver. I see that NM disconnects from my WPA network with "sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid x mode managed", but then fails to connect to an unencrypted network -- in fact, it pretty much freezes the desktop. I lose keyboard, and notice that the Gnome system monitor status applets also freeze, I cannot open new windows (using Gnome applets). Only the mouse appears to work. I can sometimes turn the system off, but not always. In those cases when it failed to shut off after 30 seconds, I have not had the patience to wait to see if it will eventually turn off by itself. Actual system shutoff does not happen -- it says it will shutdown in the console after unmounting drives -- but this perhaps an unrelated bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/43961 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux- source-2.6.20/+bug/104741 -- Keyboard killed when using hostap_pci with NetworkManager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/89464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 105578] Re: network connection applet (upper right) does not display correct status
I see this as well. I have a two NICs, one static, the other dhcp (with some additional lines in /etc/network/interfaces, to run iptables commands after the dhcp NIC comes up). It all seems to work OK, but nm-applet keeps vacillating between saying everything is fine, to "no network". I sure wish there was some supported way to just disable NM on this machine. I love NM on my laptop with a single NIC, but it's superfluous, and just gets in the way on my desktop machine that is dual-homed. -- network connection applet (upper right) does not display correct status https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105578 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 104551] Re: IBM T30 wireless network card no longer working
If if wasn't broke, why fix it? You said "it worked out of the box once," did you do anything to make it not work, or was it simply doing updates? Yes, you will see both wlan1 and wifi0, I see that also from CLI but this hardly creates a problem. Though confusing, just ignore wifi0 and use wlan1. This is no doubt frustrating for you, but to make progress in diagnosing the root cause, try changing just one thing at a time if possible. Constantly reinstalling just puts us back at square one, to some degree. So, to understand your current situation: - Which of the install DVDs did you use this time? - How are you determining that the cards are set to "roaming", why is this a problem, and why do you want to disable them? Sorry about this. I'm assuming you rebooted and didn't just rmmod/modprobe, I'm too new to Ubuntu to know which services should have been restarted to be 100% certain NM should work. You're tired of this bug, and I'm out of ideas :-( In any event, thanks for trying to get this working in Feisty, at least for the rest of us. I hope this gets some attention from Ubuntu devs, since I continue to get keyboard lockup (mouse OK, it turns out, but I also have issues shutting down after this lockup) when trying to connect to other, non-WEP networks. Re: keyboard lock-up using hostap_pci, this bug may be related: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/89464 It might be worthwhile trying to use the orinoco drivers instead of the hostap ones, even though the orinoco won't support WPA in NM (if at all). To do that, change /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist to include: blacklist hostap_pci blacklist hostap blacklist hermes #blacklist p80211 #blacklist prism2_pci (and remove any lines that blacklist orinoco, orinoco_pci drivers) Not sure about prism2_pci or p80211, I don't know enough about them. Hmm, not good. I did a fresh install of Feisty Beta a week ago, and I have to say I've seen the keyboard lockup recently (perhaps the past few days) connecting to non-WEP networks. Actually, keyboard/mouse both lock, even the Gnome system monitor applet meters freeze. I've just moved over to Ubuntu from FC6 where I used to see this often, up until about December. Re: [Bug 96532] Re: Wireless no longer works after upgrade
Odd. I can connect to networks with no encryption, WEP, and WPA. What kind of wireless network are you trying to connect to? Oh, yes, then there is that other thing that I forgot to mention: The first time I connected to my WPA-protected network, although it *was visible* to NetworkManager (NM), I had to specify it: 1) left-click on the NM icon 2) select "Connect to other wireless network" (or was it "Create new wireless network?") 3) specify the SSID, encryption type 4) if applicable, enter password 5) It failed to connect the first time, I think I had to then select it from the list of networks shown by NM, and it worked. 6) Supply a new password for the Gnome keyring, if first time using it 7) Subsequent logins were automatic, first prompted for Gnome keyring password, as well as on resuming from suspend (customizable with GConf, I believe) Let me know how that goes for you, and we can add the correct details to the bug tracker. Are you still having this problem? If so, you may not have done all that is necessary to enable the hostap driver, which is much better than the orinoco one. [Bug 104551] Re: IBM T30 wireless network card no longer working
I had the same problem on my T30 (that is, with the Prism-based IBM internal wireless card, not the Cisco one). The problem is that the hostap and orinoco kernel modules are competing for control of the card. This is mentioned as a likely problem on NetworkManager site: (http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManagerHardware) hostap: "Supports unencrypted, WEP, WPA, and WPA2 networks. Be aware that if you have both this driver and the 'orinoco' driver installed, they may fight for control of the wireless card and render it inoperable to NetworkManager. You should either disable one of these drivers, or ensure that only one driver is able to control the card." I'd love to see this working by default; in the meantime, however, you can fix it easily: 1) Confirm you have the same kind of wireless card: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lspci | grep Network 02:02.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01) 2) If so, add the following to /etc/modprobe/blacklist: (as root, ie. $sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, or $sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, and add the following lines) blacklist orinoco blacklist orinoco_pci blacklist hermes blacklist p80211 blacklist prism2_pci Note that you have the option of blacklisting either the hostap modules or the orinoco ones, but the hostap are considerable more capable under NetworkManager, so keep the hostap ones (hostap, hostap_pci, plus ieee80211_crypt for any WPA card -- not specific to this one) which will all load by default. I was surprised I had to blacklist p80211 and prism2_pci, but it didn't fully work otherwise ... perhaps someone else can reason why. 3) reboot After this, all should work nicely. -- IBM T30 wireless network card no longer working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104551 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 85605] Re: Please upgrade to 0.9.0
It's worth noting that the current KVM package (upstream v16) in feisty is based on qemu 0.9.0, and having qemu be an older version is going to cause some significant disk image incompatibilities between the two packages, resulting in some whinging and bug reports. As one example, the new qcow2 disk format is required in the current KVM to support vm snapshots -- yet the qemu-img utility in the current qemu package is incapable of creating a qcow2 file. And if a qcow2 file is created for use with kvm, it will be unusable with the current 0.8.2 version of qemu. On the other hand, the debian package is currently in experimental. [Bug 95467] installer crashes after warning about mounted partitions

Same problem here. Re: [Bug 71441] Re: Crash at website www.ctv.ca
Thanks for following up, Sam. I have - Goggle notebook 1.0.0.10 - Goggle toolbar for Firefox 2.1.20060807L default theme English (GB) language pack I also had Adobe flashplayer 7 installed. I suspected this may be the cause (since fairly "plain" websites load ok) so I tried reinstalling flashplayer, but still got the crash. I then tried uninstalling flashplayer (which is the case now) using the instructions on the flashplayer readme.txt, but still get the crash. So it doesn't appear to be flashplayer. I also tried turning off (disabling via Firefox preferences) javascript and java, but still get the crash. Unfortunately firefox just vanishes from my screen when I try calling up the website, so I don't get any obvious hints at what the problem may be. Thanks. [Bug 53059] Re: HP Compaq nw9440 - power manager problem
This is a known problem with a number of HP laptops. For some bizzare reason, the hardware appears to get into a bad state if it is shut down with the psmouse driver loaded. I also added "psmouse" to the "STOP_SERVICES" variable in "/etc/default/acpi- support", so the module also gets unloaded on suspend. ** Attachment added: "script to remove/insert psmouse module" http://librarian.launchpad.net/4930477/psmouse -- HP Compaq nw9440 - power manager problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/53059 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
