[Bug 668641] Re: GNOME does not load theme after innstalling NVIDIA non-free driver

2010-12-02 Thread Brett Hoerner
Are we sure this is an nvidia issue? I would assume it's a race
condition because the SSD is so fast.

I also have this issue on an Intel X25-M. I can try Noveau but it's too
slow to use regularly, I think.

2010-10-25 Thread Brett Hoerner
Never mind, back to race condition as my only guess.

I just rebooted and I'm stuck with the crappy non-Ambiance theme.

Changed to invalid, something I updated on Maverick in the last 2 days
seems to have fixed the issue.

[Bug 662214] Re: visualvm (Java) fonts are out of whack. Huge, blocky text is used everywhere.

2010-10-18 Thread Brett Hoerner
A visualvm developer got back to me about the issue,

https://visualvm.dev.java.net/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=748

Adding "--laf Metal" to the command line args in the jvisualvm script
helped.

[Bug 662214] [NEW] visualvm (Java) fonts are out of whack. Huge, blocky text is used everywhere.

2010-10-17 Thread Brett Hoerner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: visualvm

In Maverick, the visualvm fonts are *huge* and ugly. It's hard to
actually use the app like this.

This did not occur in Lucid. I am using Sun JDK 6 from apt, and will
include a screenshot comparing Eclipse (which works great) and visualvm
running at the same time.

2010-10-17 Thread Brett Hoerner
OK, I haven't seen Ambiance but once since I installed, so it may not be
a race condition.

I still cannot select Ambiance as my theme, instead Gnome is forcing me
to use this very plain Windows 95 looking default.

[Bug 658632] Re: Gnome theme changes from Ambiance to plain default after first reboot, can't be changed back.

2010-10-12 Thread Brett Hoerner
I believe it's actually a race condition with encrypted home folders.
I've rebooted 10 times since and *one* time I had the correct theme.
Does Gnome maybe try to read my config before my home is fully mounted?
What's odd is that I still can't go to Appearances and change it to
Ambiance.

** Summary changed:

- Gnome theme changes from Ambiance to plain default after first reboot, can't
be changed back.
+ Race condition between encrypted-home and Gnome theme (?)

** Description changed:

I just installed Maverick 10.10 AMD64 Desktop. After the first boot
  everything looked great.

I then setup my typical environment, which basically includes installing
a bunch of packages. I didn't change any Appearance options at all.
After rebooting, my theme is now a very boring and ugly one (I believe
the Gnome default). I cannot change it back to Ambiance in Appearance
- settings. If I create a new non-admin user, he has Ambiance. If I
- create an admin user, he has the crappy theme.
+ settings. If I create a new user, he has Ambiance. If I login to my
+ user, he has the crappy theme.
+
+ Update: I've had Ambiance load once in 10 reboots, see comment below,
+ the only thing I can think of is that I use encrypted home.

I'd be happy to provide more information or try anything to make my
  desktop less ugly.

2008-01-09 Thread Brett Hoerner
I also received a 404 on ,
but I found a copy at and the script ran fine and my wifi worked
immediately.

Of course, I can't speak to the quality of that mirror or anything, it
would be a good thing to have it hosted somewhere more permanent.

[Bug 179492] exuberant-ctags: python variables stating with "def" are shown as functions

2007-12-30 Thread Brett Hoerner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: exuberant-ctags

This bug has already been reported and fixed in exuberant-ctags SVN
#632:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1856363&group_id=6556&atid=106556

It's a tiny 2 line fix which saves a lot of annoyance for python/ctags
