[Bug 191316] Re: Fspot reports error for importing Nikon D80

2010-06-14 Thread Broomer68
1. I am not using F-spot unless I have to. I do like Picasa more for flexible
imports, image manipulation and use of directories.
2. I do have a D90 now, and that was still troubling me last time I tried. And
for ease of use and greater speed, I am used to swap the SD-card, and insert it
in the reader in my PC.
3. using Lucid now, this bug dates back to 2008

for what it is worth: I will test my old D80, and D90

D90: not recognized at all
D80: not recognized at all, both in MTP/PTP and in Mass-storage mode.

Wow surprise. I guess something is stuck with USB, altough my ebook did
just function this afternoon on the same cable.
I do attach part of syslog.

[Bug 355085] [NEW] distribution-update-terminal does not respect screensize

2009-04-04 Thread Broomer68
Public bug reported:

doing a distribution-update (partial upgrade for jaunty) on my netbook,
the window size when viewing the terminal is bigger than the screen,
leaving the bottom part invisible. the window cannot be rezised, or
moved over the top of the screen, to see the actual bottom lines. It
should be possible to decrease the number of lines viewed in the
terminal to fit to the window, or decrease the font-size.

[Bug 342425] [NEW] password gets extra character from screensaver

upon entering my 8 character password in screensaver, when the
screensaver is active, it is displaying 9 stars, and the password is

entering while the unlock screen is displayed just registers the 8
keystrokes and unlocks the screen.

2009-01-29 Thread Broomer68
It is running all together. started with plain ubuntu 8.10, upgraded to
9.04 a2, installed xubuntu-desktop, and later netbook-remix. normally
running gnome as far as I know, but the desktop recently changed to the
netbook starter screen; but with gnome panels.

I do keep up with daily upgrades, but maybe I will reinstall from scratch once
alpha4 is released.
(but I think I will preserve the /home directory)

[Bug 318376] [NEW] mscore cannot suspend pulseaudio and will not start

2009-01-18 Thread Broomer68
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mscore

mscore tries to disable pulseaudio, because it 'needs' jackaudio to work, but
it gets
Suspending PulseAudio
Failure to suspend: Invalid argument

before installing jaunty, mscore did work, but without sound unless
pulse was killed.

I think there is need to upgrade mscore so it can use pulse.
it needs a midi-synthesizer as it will produce midi-out that has to be
processed to sound

jaunty is working alright. the bug gets fixed with pidgin 2.5.3

[Bug 313160] [NEW] edit ubuntu system sound theme reverts complete theme to silence

2009-01-02 Thread Broomer68
Public bug reported:

When I want to add a sound to the ubuntu sound theme, the theme is cancelled
and a clean (=empty) "custom" theme is selected instead of copied from the
originating theme.
so you need to fill in all sounds instead of just the 'new mail' you wanted.

Also you start in the 'home' directory every time you want to add a sound, and
have to crawl your way to /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo for selecting the
right or wrong sound. when wrong, you have to start all over again from 'home'
instead of from the place you selected the wrong sound.
Could there be a pre'listen' as well?

[Bug 194999] Re: unable to install hardy twice

2008-12-22 Thread Broomer68
I will try to install something intrepid/jaunty -64 on the same partition I
reported the failure earlier, but I do not think this has to do with bug
149832, as the install partition was already occupied with ext3 (and Gutsy-386).
But it could have something to do with the swapping/addition of the drives.

as far as I can remember:

starting situation:
sda1: WinXP (ntfs), sda2,3,5,6,7,8,9 contains OS/2, swap partition and data
on HPFS, Fat32 and JFS(os/2) drives
sdb1: gutsy /; sdb5: linux swap; sdb6 gutsy /home

added 1 new drive as sda,
old sda connected as sdb, no readable partitions for WinXP on new sda, so still
on C: (and working, but failed later due to NTFS-trouble)
old sdb connected as sdc

installed hardy 386 -alpha4 on sda1/sda6, copied settings/mail from sdc6 (old
home)
I seem to remember after this installation Grub was able to start gutsy from
sdc1

installed hardy 64 -alpha5 on sdc1 as / and sda6 mounted as /home
grub error 17 when starting hardy 64 from sdc1
hardy-386 from sda1 still works

In the mean time, i upgraded the hardy -386 alpha4 to intrepid -386

[Bug 297301] [NEW] after receiving authentication error the password is forgotten

2008-11-12 Thread Broomer68
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

When receiving 'negative vibes' with the web-mail Hotmail extension or a plain
pop account which gives a server failure, thunderbird responds with a
pre-filled (remembered) password window, and the checkmark 'remember password'
unchecked.
Then the next time this account is checked the password is not remembered
anymore, and I have to fill it in myself again.

Can the default-behaviour of this remembered-password window also
remember that I want it to remember? (this is: check the checkmark for
remembering if the password was previously remembered (and [or if]
previously accepted by the server)

[Bug 252900] Re: vfat : wubi 8.04.1-rev506 kernel upgrade fails

2008-11-09 Thread Broomer68
Converting the disk is not a viable solution for me as it will break my
Windows-XP recovery partition, and I need that for (eventually) reinstalling
the original OEM-XP.
The recovery program used to create the image only accepts Fat partitions.

I decided when I tried Ubuntu on this laptop, that I would put it in
that partition as I did have some unused Gigs over there.

[Bug 185752] Re: dbus and f-spot not does not start f-spot

2008-10-29 Thread Broomer68
I did already, but I had to say that I have had this bug in history, not sure
if it was for Gutsy, Hardy or Intrepid-Alpha, but do not get this one in
Intrepid 8.10 release-candidate anymore.
but I would like to suggest this could be related, as somehow Nautilus can lock
F-spot out of the use of the USB-system, so maybe F-spot can be locked out of
dbus or X11 as well.

[Bug 191316] Re: Fspot reports error for importing Nikon D80

2008-10-29 Thread Broomer68
Still not fixed with 8.10rc with today's updates.

With updated Nikon firmware 1.11 and camera set to PTP/MTP. (see
screenshot-1)

When the camera is mounted in Mass Storage mode, F-spot is not
automatically launched, but when it is started by either window (see
next comment), it is able to import the pictures without unmounting.

So I think it has something to do with the implementation of the MTP/PTP Nikon
window locking the USB-port.
The Mass-storage window does not lock that port, or F-spot does not require a
lock or can accept a used port with a lock by another program

Sebastien Bacher wrote:

There is still something quirky, but not this failure.
When I connect my Nikon D80, there are three windows openened:
F-spot, main window, in import-mode
Nikon Camera asking if F-spot needs te be started
F-spot Camera selection as F-spot is not able to grab the camera,
because (nautilus ?) the Nikon-window grabbed the camera first.

For F-spot te work, the Nikon window needs to Unmount. (already reported
as # 191316)

This with 8.10rc with current updates.
